To reduce the cable weight of aircraft
I use to work with 400hz static frequency converters
Supporting answer is not good enough I think so.
How the weight of the components are reducing is, the relationship between the core loss and copper loss. This can only reduce the weight transformers and 3 phase motors used in the aircraft. However the dc supply is taking major role in aircraft for signals and sensors.
One more thing if the weight is reducing with increase in frequency why not in some mega hertz. If the frequency is increased it will interfere the radio and radar equipments.
I hope you may convinced my answer
But switching power supply weigh even less
I got shocked from 115vac 400hz on a crj700. Its a strange feeling to say the least
