Why 115V 400Hz used in Aircraft Power System?

Aircraft uses 115V 400hz Power. Why high frequency is used... FAA = Federal Aviation Administration

Thankyou very much for the details. I was asked to install a 230V/50Hz to 115V/400Hz converter. How do i know that the waveform is near to sinus and not square/triangle. Can you recommend anything?
