Looks like the AF transition is now much smoother in 7.10. Less stepping/hunting before acquiring focus. Maybe Phase detect AF is working better in the new firmware. The old firmware looks more like contrast based AF with the stepping transition when it tries to focus on your face after the object is moved away.
But how does it work for stills, eyetracking and Continuous Focus? I got the Problem that the green Box wasn’t reliable and the Focus doesn’t hit the eye, although the green box was set on the eye
For me I never really had any issues doing stills as I avoided eye detection- could never trust it. But maybe now i might dabble with it more. Thanks for sharing your experiences it’s very encouraging.
Just before Halloween I did a portrait shoot for Halloween in the woods I was using xh2s and 56 f1.2 from Fuji.. eye detection was there as I can see the box but I missed lots of shots.. the. I turned it off and did my focus single point it was better
Nope. That crazy Canadian has a name first Casey And his settings are not like mine if you watch well And there was another one who said if you shoot at 25fps then use 1/50 shutter speed any idea who was he?
If you have face or eye autofocus, the probability of it focusing on an object in front of the camera lessens. You might want to do tgat with point or multi point autofocus instead. Overall, it looks like it is accurate and nailing the focus.
Would love to give you a like and thank's for doing this video! I am using a Gfx 50s ii and in contrast to all the cameras I used before (including the earliest x series) I must say that I never lost so much confidence in myself and money because of blindly trusting Fuji. I am used to manual focus (Leica and Mamiya) and used as well the Pentax 645D. Ever had problems to deliver good results. I used the Gfx on several weddings with patience, but it is taking my eye for the art away. The Pentax (Medium Format) was always confident. All this blablabla with " Medium Format" lenses is very tiring! Sony manages to focus on any aperture! Fuji even 3 stops down is not confident. Don't tell me that the lenses are bigger and heavier ... -with the apertures they deliver..they aren't actually. Hope Fuji gets their sh.t together! Sony is very good but so unsexy! Canon and their closed mount and so on.. Nikon at least picked up. Thank's again and keep us posted!
Thx for this amazing comment. I own Nikon z full frames, Fuji apsc, Sony apsc and soon full frame. Because there are moments u need the camera to work..even if it's not sexy
Firmware v7.1 made AF usable again after breaking it with prior versions. It is back to what it was at release. AF box still lags behind movement. Isn't buttery smooth & sticky like Canon yet. For sure this will stem the exodus & bleeding of fans to other ecosystems. Hope they improve it further and consistent about it. Going to take a while to repair the loss faith and damaged reputation.
I hope so.. since last month during Paris photo fair Fuji told me the update is incredible and it will roll also on the other cameras.. so far I can use my xh2s again and not sell it
Thank goodness I only use manual autofocus with my Fuji. I have never had issues with autofocus except for eye autofocus, which wanders everywhere. It may be time to try auto-focus.
It has been a year that my Fuji weren't so exciting anymore. I tried to hide my face and show the eye only and it was detected. Of course it's way behind Lumix and Sony and canon and Nikon hahah but someone put them on the right track now they have to accelerate forward
No..... my mind isn't changed. We don't need and should NEVER accept a firmware update that still is not as good as the original firmware from years ago. Not too mention still lightyears behind the competition. Is the next update going to drag us back again like update 4 5 6 7 did. See ya fuji. You had your chance
You've tested focus hunting. What I've seen in various videos about Fujifilm focus problems was that the little square was placed on the eye, but the focus was off, that is in the foreground or the background. (Focus point and focus marker didn't match.) I couldn't see this issue in your test, neither in “before” nor “after” update. Hunting is better now and I hope the other issue is fixed too.
Thx for the comment. I said I found the best settings that worked for me before the update In some moments we see the square way off..that's why I had the screen splitted. But with firmware update the square is more sticky. And I tested the focus hunt because it is a huge issue for my work
The first thorough test of real world use of this firmware to appear. Great work. I absolutely agree with your conclusion. Time to update my Xh2s firmware. Thanks!
It still hunts a bit. I've noticed that if a camera behaves in an inferior way that we expect it to, then we are okay with it. If it behaves in a new inferior way, we think it is trash. For example, we expect a mirrorless camera to either have a large stabilization crop or be shaky. We expect an action camera to have ineffective wind noise reduction on their internal mics, but if they have inferior image quality, this is a huge issue.
Appreciate your effort, but you tested poorly. You’re supposed to hold object forward without blocking your eye to see if it still focuses on eye. That the big focus issue. It lies and says it’s focussing on the eye but it’s focussing on object. You barely tested this scenario effectively, but thanks for the attempt
Hey. Thx for the comment. You can see the test section I had object passing in front of eyes and so on. Go watch that part again you might have missed it?
I've been using 3/0 from the first week I had the camera. It was the most stable based on my tests. Just because someone else came across the combination and made a video didn't mean they are the only one who discovered it. What a braindead comment.
Give it time mate. Fuji color science deserves patience and love. Not every child like every camera is perfect. But it’s in the little imperfections that we find solace and authenticity. Learn to love unconditionally. ❤😂
Very encouraging to see the results of the latest update. There is hope!!!
Oh yes
Waiting on the XT5 update!
@@simon359 me too!
Soon
Im so happy to hear that this update is coming to the xs20.
I hope it arrives soon
Object detection looks more solid and the Autofocus transition is now much smoother in new Firmware.
Yes I agree

I will try it soon
Also Fujifilm X-T4 and X-T5 will get the new firmware ?
Xt5 for sure. Xt4 I hope so
@@photorabz XT-3 and XH-1 maybe 🤔😎🙏 dreamer’s paradise.
I'm sure it won't go till xt3 and xh1 :(
Just installed on my X-H2 and what an improvement!
Amazing
Yes, so you keep saying - everywhere lol
?
It's good fuji back on the track but this not improvement just running in the circle😅
Let's be honest it has been improved
For me I never really had any issues doing stills as I avoided eye detection- could never trust it. But maybe now i might dabble with it more. Thanks for sharing your experiences it’s very encouraging.

Now we'll have to wait for xt5,x100vi, xt50 and xm5 😊
Oh yes and the xh3s
Looks really good
Yeah much much better

Exactly, I tried to put objects in front to disturb the system and see if it will hunt to find me again
Thank you. for the review. Im disappointed that no firmware for th XT5 and X100v and VI
It will come soon
This came to the GFX as well, let’s hope it’s as good. I used eye auto for some quick portraits of a group I work with, so many of them missed focus
I hope so. Keep me posted if it's better now

I totally agree
The AF algorithm has been partially revised to improve focusing accuracy and subject tracking performance.
I read that on their web page
@photorabz there are more updates to come
I hope so.. since last month during Paris photo fair Fuji told me the update is incredible and it will roll also on the other cameras.. so far I can use my xh2s again and not sell it
@@photorabz they should prioritize autofocus for now
Yes
It doesn't work with the 27mm as well as with the 13mm. It hunted very slightly twice or so with the DJI controller.
The 27 is f1.2 so of course it's more difficult. The af is not the best, but better than before
Thank goodness I only use manual autofocus with my Fuji. I have never had issues with autofocus except for eye autofocus, which wanders everywhere. It may be time to try auto-focus.
Finally it works
Fuji af will always work way better with native lenses
Sure

Thank you
hola, un favor puede hacer con subtitulado, soy persona sorda, gracias
Photorabz makes good videos. I hope he can find time to add captions for you or find a way to add auto captions.
Hi there. Hope all gd. I think you can use the cc captions of TH-cam right?
Thank you alot
Kinda waiting to see someone literally get off their seats and go out shooting some sports or modeling lol.
I hope u listened to what I said in the beginning hehe

I think there is a xh3s and xh3 coming. In order to make sales they had to improve the AF here so people will be confident again about Fuji cameras
Thank you. I don’t think using a flat black phone to test close auto focus is a good choice. Flat, black, no contrast
I wanted to get an object close to the camera to hide the face and eye and then see how it sees the face and eye after
I still have fear to uppgrade
Why?

So you prefer to mock people rather than letting people test things for you so you know whether you update urs or not. Good point

Much appreciated. I wish I had the opportunity to try it outdoor but couldn't do it at all because of a fever and a bad weather
