To answer the first question Suchin asks: I can definitely say, I do come to Film Companion just to hear the thoughtful critiques they offer on cinema as an art sometimes even if I have already seen the movie or even if I never intend to watch the movie. Pratyush is right that there is an audience that just appreciates the criticism as an art form in and of itself. Before Film Companion, I don't know if every day people in India were engaging in dialogue around how cinema is a form of art, and how Indian cinema is a vibrant part of that "art making" legacy. I think Film Companion deserves credit and applause for making the art of Indian cinema more accessible and visible to the Indian audience and also diligently creating space for more intentional and informative conversations on filmmaking. Thankful for this channel and these critics!

Each of you are bloody good at your job, so distinctively individualistic and honest, always wait for Anupama's movie reviews and Suchin's streaming reviews, the best there is.Hope you start doing movie reviews too Suchin👍

I come for Anupama! Just to see her dissect the movie and sometimes even politely roast it. 😅

Can we please have the entire episode on youtube as well? It's annoying to go listen to the audio version after watching this & then having to skip through the video portion in the audio version.

I just heard the entire podcast, and as Suchin rightly described it, it was therapeutic. ❤

Critics are critical, everyone think like that, but the critics are usually the ones who go through that excruciating pain, sitting there in sometimes housefull or empty halls, to watch a bizzare kinda thing and then put there thoughts infront of us what torture they went through..
Yeah there work is tough, and still they got criticised but they took everything with a pinch of salt..
Sometimes the critic's give 3 or 4 review to a movie and that movie does not work at the box office, sometimes they trash a movie and it makes wonder's at the box office..

I prefer to see or read reviews, it has own style, vocabulary, grammer and style. Many movies we may not watch, but still watch the review, its learning about our world, its changing, different perspective. The reviews help to find the meaning of the surrounding world with different perspective, to be better person.

Yes, reviews will have personal liking and biases. But whats wrong with it, it is not a review or criticism, but appreciation.

I wrote one film review, one year ago and it got published in FC reader's write, am I critic? I wish I could write more but I never watch things when they come out. Is it possible to be a critic without watching everything on the day it comes out

Yes. You can write on film revisit write up if it's old films or more nuanced version of film reviews later.

Loved this. In particular Pratyush’s comments in the beginning. On a lighter note, and not to objectify Rahul D, 😉 can someone suggest to him a decent dress code… one white shirt and a Jean would do.

Anupama talking about integrity? She let FC run a smear campaign against the kashmir files by posting about the tashkent files and bashing that film.

These all are only good English speaking people. They don't know anything about review. I never hear such complexity from Bharadwaj Rangan Sir, who according to me defines what a review should be.

Lol... I really doubt you ever read their reviews. I don't see Bharadwaj any superior than these bunch of people. Sucharita is not here, who also give so much to appreciate and add to your movie watching experience

Listen to all tips from Rahul Desai and make sure not to follow any of them as he just cribs about the movie without discussing other aspects.
