Ipswich were stagnating in League 1 prior to the change of ownership and subsequent appointment of Kieran McKenna. I'm old enough to remember the Robson era but a lot of Town supporters are too young to remember the club's last and rather brief sojourn in the PL. Last season the team tended to have a tight defence away from home but in home games it was often a goal feast; great to watch but tough on the nerves. If we are to stay up and remain in the PL then a strong defence is essential. That was a good video, well-researched and well-presented, with a few points for discussion.
You did a terrific job of introducing your thoughts, addressing those thoughts, and reinforcing/restating your concepts. A+ Passion for Ippy A+++ go on then boyeee! Seriously well argued and thought out. Keep going. :-)
Thanks, good video. A lot of people focus on Kieran McKenna and they're right to, he is going to the very top. They don't mention, or are perhaps unaware of, what's going on behind the scenes at Ipswich. Sensible new American backers who provide money but otherwise keep enthusiastically in the background, a hard working and very effective CEO, investment in the stadium, pitch and training camp - not to mention our brilliant manager. I don't think that's a blueprint for relegation!
Yes I think I should’ve mentioned the club is very different from the one when you had McCarthy all those years ago, and that you have some very clever and sensible people behind the scenes doing good things. I look forward to see how you do this season :)
It's gonna be tough for any of the promoted sides to stay up... We've never lost 2 league games on the spin under McKenna, albeit at lower divisions. But he has great in game management and a knack of picking up points, instead of nosediving after a defeat...So I can see us grinding along, picking up a few points until we've adjusted and bedded in our new signings. We should add a few more before the window closes.. Good insight in your upload...I think Omari Hutchinson could be key for us. Brilliant young player. And we'll need to bolster our MF.
I personally see a lot of similarities to you and Sheffield United when they got promoted the first time. A good cohesive unit, players who want it and clear momentum. Going to enjoy watching you this season that’s for sure
Interesting. About the only person who thinks Town will be ok, unlike the bookmakers. As a Town fan, l just don’t know but will have an idea after the first game. I will say this: unlike a lot of people on TH-cam you do seem to understand how they play and McKenna does like a roughneck up front. He is not expected to score that much as goals come from all members of the team. Couple of points. First, last couple of years January signings have really made the difference. Second, there is money in the bank from selling a share in the club last year. And if you want to be optimistic, last time we were in this position and favourites to go down, we finished fifth. We went down the following year mind
I think a lot of people just see you’ve had 2 promotions in a row and can’t fathom a squad without much prem experience staying up. You have a potentially elite manager with momentum on his side and financial backing from the board. All I see is good signs
@@outsidethebox-TW As l said l just don’t know. It was like this last year when a lot of people thought the players were not good enough. And if you followed the comments everyone thought Leeds would be promoted automatically. As a supporter l often had to pinch myself watching them. The squad was assembled for under £5m with the 16th highest wage bill in the division. Yet they played attractive football and scored a lot of goals
They conceded too many goals last season in the championship and had to rely on comebacks to win many games, which they would lose against an average PL side. The PL is ruthless. I can imagine Aston Villa putting four past them in the first half. Unless they improve the squad significantly between now and the end of the window, I do not see how they stay up.
If anyone doubts our fight and determination just watch our game against Southampton. With that attitude and the good signings I think we will survive....just.
Please remember, we finished 5th when we were favourites to go down ,we will certainly surprise a thew but me being a hardcore town fan ,i think 17th is a result, and keeping McKenna
I think you finishing 5th isn't necessarily relevant, but shows that teams can do well at the first time of asking. As a Sheffield United fan I'm still so proud of when we chased Europe until lockdown.
@nffctrickett how can I prove something which is in the future…? I’ve made a case for why I believe Ipswich will stay up in the prem. I also think Forest are more likely to go down.
@@outsidethebox-TW exactly. You cannot "prove" it. That's probably why you shouldn't say you can prove it 😉 I'm only using your own words against you 😏
Lol gl to you moving out of deluded land bro unless you do a Forest n buy a whole new team you will no doubt struggle but keep yer chin up n stick behind your team like us Forest fans do n who knows u may defy the odds but…..
Relegation fodder unfortunately. Their signings are basically decent Championship players. That just doesn’t cut it in the Premier League these days. The one ace they have is the manager who is class. It’ll be interesting to see how he deals with a long losing run which is bound to happen at some point
I disagree strongly and I doubt you know much you actually know about the club, its fans, players or set up. For example, they’ve brought in three players from Premier League sides (Chelsea, West Ham and Man City) so to claim they have only brought championship players isn’t correct.
My Premier League predicktions 2024/25 from a Spurs fan 1 Man City 2 Arsenal 3 Aston Villa 4 Liverpool 5 Spurs 6 Chelsea 7 Man Utd 8 Newcastle 9 Crystal Palace 10 West Ham 11 Bournemouth 12 Wolves 13 Brighton 14 Everton 15 Fulham 16 Ipswich 17 Leicester 18 Brentford 19 Nott'm Forest 20 Southampton
I like it, I don’t think villa will finish that high because the have CL this season so maybe 7-9th for them. I think wolves will be lower and Brentford will be higher too. I’ll be making a prediction at some point in the coming weeks though :)
In my opinion, 5th is ambitious for Spurs as is 3rd for Villa. Newcastle and West Ham will finish higher than your 8th and 10th respectively. Man United will be about 7th and Chelsea are sliding to 9th or 10th. Palace won't be in the top half. Southampton, Ipswich and Leicester to go straight back down. Arsenal champions.
They did concede goals but only at home, where they also had the best record of any side in the country, losing one game all season, because they went hell for leather against sides and battered them, scoring 3 or 4 goals each game regularly. Away from home they were tighter.
Toby you are way of the mark. Ipswich Town will need one point per game to stay up. (38) That's the equivalent of ten wins and eight draws... Against which teams? A Town fan on social media recently boasted that his team will finish 10th. I asked him to nominate the ten teams that Ipswich will finish higher than......He hasn't responded. In reality, only new right back Johnson has any significant Premier League experience, in fact far more than the whole Ipswich squad put together. It has to be noted that so many of Johnson's 69 Prem appearances for West Ham were as sub as he was never first choice (which is why he opted to leave on a free.) Spending £20m on Chelsea U21 player Hutchinson doesn't count as improving the squad as he played for Ipswich on loan last season. Muric, Greaves and Delap are also lacking relevant experience. As are the rumoured players at Blackburn and another at Burnley that Ipswich are reported as being interested in. It's not long now before Ipswich Town play at home to Liverpool and away at Manchester City in the first two weekends. It will take a brave, or deluded, Town fan to predict a win in either game. Sorry, but it will be PL 2, L2 goal difference possibly minus 9 and rock bottom in the table. Ipswich Town going down.
Completely see where you’re coming from and I don’t doubt it’s tough for them to stay up. I pose to you x2 sides who nobody expected to stay up, but managed to (relatively) easily in recent years - Sheffield United with Wilder & Bournemouth with O’Neil. Obviously they have their own nuances but I believe these are two case studies which show experience isn’t everything. Shef U must’ve had a handful of appearances in that squad, from players who hadn’t ever been deemed as ‘premier league quality’. I think if Ipswich beat the teams around them, which McKenna is capable of, they’ll be fine.
A lot of people don’t know anything about Ipswich, and they will learn. Good video.

Thanks for your input. I believe that we will stay up. Key to it happening is as you say, k Mckenna .he gets the best out of players.
Exactly. He reminds me of Wilder with Blades in 2019/20. A team punching above their ability, with most of them in their prime
Good vid, interesting how you broke down the tactics.
McKenna is the Ronnie O Sullivan of football management. He'll turn the Premier League upside down, I have no doubt.
I think you’ll stay up, I’m not sure it’s going to be as easy as that though

"Prove to you why they'll stay up" 😂😂😂😂
Lets revisit this videos in 9 months 😏
Id be interested in you making a case for why you’re so sure they’ll go down?

Well done. Town will win home to Liverpool opening day. (Then be thrashed 5-0 at The Etihad…)
An upset against Liverpool could be on the cards. They have a new manager, you have momentum and it’s in front of Town fans

That’s what everyone said last time we were promoted and we finished 5th, only got relegated after we signed’top flight’ players the following year.
I think you’re being slightly naive to the impact momentum, good coaching and a cohesive squad can have
Because Prem teams never buy the best from the Championship to strenghten their squads ...
You could be right. just think the Premier League is an entirely different beast to when you were last there more than 20 years ago
