Laudato si is first prayer written by St Francis of Asizi. V century ad.Floor has a university degree in music under her belt and she exactly knows what she can do with her voice
We need to keep Floor Jansen in your thoughts and prayers. She is battling breast cancer. She is having or just had surgery and it sounds promising. But we do need to lift her up.
Yep, she had her surgery, let's hope recovery goes well and that first diagnosis was correct that it was not an agressive cancer. Bless you Floor and your family too.
No praying, we live in a modern world where science and knowledge has made witchcraft obsoleted. She will be fine, thats why everyone get scanned as a rutine in Sweden so people don't go with cancer for years untill it has spread.
this is such an absolutely beautiful epic piece of music and such nice honor for the shoemakers Tuomas wife sings the first part and floor sings the second part the rhythmic patterns of the drums and guitars
To see Floor perform this song in person is Majestic....I'm 78, my wife is 77, she said after going to her first metal concert, I would never have believed the music and the band could this good....As for Floor, she said the best performer, singer I've ever heard....
Thank you for sharing your wife’s reaction to seeing Floor and NW in person. ….I’m 54. Saw them for the first time this spring. It was Mesmerizing. My 19 & 16 year old sons (primarily into Rap and EDM) loved the show!!
I'm a 73 year old lifelong musician who started on classical piano, taught myself guitar, and played professionally, mostly in Greenwich village for over 21 years. What makes Floor so remarkable (aside from her gorgeous, incredible voice, her incredible stage presence, and her ability to reach inside you emotionally), she studied Opera, musical theatre, and rock singing, and realized that the different techniques she studied can all be used to express what she is trying to express in her performance. She actually changes the vocal technique she uses instantly, within a song, to best express herself to the listener. I've never heard anyone else do that. Plus, she's so good, and does each so well that you can miss it if you're not listening closely. I always found it puzzling why almost every Opera singers I've ever heard sounds weird/ uncomfortable singing other genres, no matter how great they may be, but now I understand. They sing everything using the classical technique. It just doesn't work with other genres. Floor figured that out, and it makes her so much more effective when she performs, because she does them all so well. Please recover from the breast cancer soon, completely. We, and your loved ones need you well.
@@michaelmorgenbesser7026 Pls look out for "strange machines" sung by Anneke van Giersbergen at the Pinkpop festival. Rumour is, that this performance made Floor choose to sing metal. Epic? YES!
I cannot see the reaction on TH-cam yet. But, I was just wandering if you knew that this song is a tribute to American Nasa planetary scientist Eugene Shoemaker. He studied asteroids impacts on earth and other planets. He joined the astronaut program in order to go on a moon landing, he was so disappointed when he was disqualified and dropped from the astronaut program due to finding out he had Atkinson's. Because of all his contributions to the field he had an asteroid impact crater on the moon named after him. He died in a car crash while traveling to study an impact crater in the remote outback of Australia (or was it New Zealand). Nasa decided to honor him by finally sending him to the moon. They gathered some of his ashes in a small ern and put it aboard a satellite that was to be crashed into the moon. Yes, you guessed it, on the southern hemisphere of the moon into the Shoemaker crater. To date he is the first and only human to have their remains buried on a celestial object in space other than the earth. The quotes in the song... That was a quote from Romeo and Juliet that his wife had engraved on the earn that carried his ashes to the moon. I just think the inspiration to Tuomas for this song just adds another level.
This was the very first Nightwish song I ever heard 2+ years ago and I was hooked. In my 70’s discovering a new band was a surprise to me. Happening in the middle of the isolation of the pandemic it was easy to be come obsessed with the rabbit hole. Scifi and space were the hook but the quality of everything about this band blew me away. Thanks for a great review.
A little back story about Shoemaker, he was an astrophysicist that discovered long side Levy as an asteroid, which eventually collided against Jupiter some years ago in the 1990s, his wish for when he died was to have his ashes buried on the moon. His wish was granted after his passing and the lunar orbiter deposited his remains there.
Don't worry, I think most of us listen to that last part with our mouths hanging open, too! Elizabeth Zharof of Charismatic Voice has a name for this range of operatic singing. It hovers between two comfortable ranges in a delicate balance of sound that requires true mastery. I've heard it before in really old movies, but with Floor on a proper mic, it's a freaking teleporter to heaven!
Please Please comment video on : Nightwish - Shoemaker LIVE Hellfest 2022 . especially in the last part Floor manages to make me cry like crazy every time
Although Floor stated that she is not opera singer, the scary thing is, that Floor studied Opera like a year to sound like this... I love this Album version , but LIVE version at Hellfest and my own Live experience of that song cannot be compared! And yes, this song is about Eugene Shoemaker! The spoken word in this song is Tuomas Holopainen's Wife Johanna Kurkela! The harmonies are with Troy Donockley "The Bard" (is an English composer and multi-instrumentalist most known for his playing of Uilleann pipes, tin whistle, vocals, guitar, keyboards, bass guitar, pump organ, bouzouki, cittern, bodhrán, mandola, harmonium, aerophone). Plus: "Shoemaker" has become a favorite song of NASA's scientific community. Tuomas has a deep inclination towards science and this is reflected in many of his plays. This ensured the entry of Nightwish into the history books of science, several discoveries in the field being named after them. These new discoveries include: Alpenglow Rockshelter: Archaeological site named after Nightwish Song. Tanidromites Nightwishorun: New Crab species. Sciophila Holopaineni: New species of Mosquito found in Finland. Ophiomitrella Floorae: New species of Cretaceous brittle star named after Floor Jansen. Tmesisternus floorjansenae: new species of beetle named after Floor. AND the most important !!!! Good vibes and thoughts to our Goddess in recovery 🥰!!!! NWSU 🤘😎🤘.
Thankyou for all this info, some I didn’t know. Divine Band, they got me through my husband’s death. I could spend nights on end just listening to their songs instead of succumbing to my grief. He “discovered” Floor’s voice in his final months in “Beste zangers”, I dived in deeper and found Nightwish.
The thing is Gabriel, she would have been right up there with the best of the best, if she had chosen an opera career path. I'd love to hear more of her operatic voice, the sound of which is quite profound. Thankyou for all the effort you put in on these reaction videos. I see you on them all the time :) Greetings again from New Zealand :)
You're spot on Tuomas writes his music from the need to tell a story. He needs a story he feels eager to tell and then writes the music and lyrics to it. The cadence of singing is like verses of Shakespeare, from which the line "cut in little stars" originally comes. Eugene Shoemaker ashes was literally divided in order to bury him on the moon as a tribute cause he never got to go there himself due to health issues. And yes it was Floor in the end. I saw her do this live and it was amazing.
The Shakespeare quote was read by Johanna Kurkela, Tuomas' wife. She also lends her vocals to Auri, a side project with Tuomas and Troy Donockley. I suggest "Night 13", "Pearl Diving", or "Desert Flower"
Thank you . Had to watch this reaction, waiting every second for……..LAUDATO……goose bumps aplenty. Your goggle eyes jaw dropping shows that you too find Floor, operatic, in Latin something special.
The singer is Troy Donocley, he's also multi-instrumentalist: Troy can play : Uilleann pipes - which used in here. Tin whistle, vocals, guitar (Fylde Oberon), keyboards, bass guitar, pump organ, bouzouki, cittern, bodhrán, mandola, harmonium, aerophone... And is also a punster, LOL In an interview he was asked "Is there anything else you wish to learn to play (if anything)?" Troy:"Ice Hockey!!"
I'm glad you decided to explore the Nightwish catalog, I'm sure you'll discover in time many of the real diamonds and pearls composed and performed in a quarter of a century dedicated to music, from all eras of the band. The list I promote contains links to good quality audio-video recordings of their most popular songs - but it is far from covering the entire repertoire of more than 100 songs. Returning to "Shoemaker" - it is part of their latest studio album, "Human :||: Nature", released in April 2020, right at the beginning of the pandemic. For this reason, for 2 years we listened to most of the songs in the studio version and that's it, just imagining what impact they will have in live performance. Surprisingly for me, this song found a special place in this year's live concerts, being one of the audience's favorites. You can see this in all recent professional YT recordings: Pinkpop, Hellfest, Deichbrand.
Hey Gabriel. Welcome back! :) appreciate you stopping by. thank you for the info. that makes sense. it must be very special live. I'm grateful I get to enjoy both live and lyric videos and see the diversity of their work in the various ways.
I bought the CD waiting for the tour in Los Angeles. Saw them both nights. If you close your eyes the music is studio quality. But, if you open your eyes you get the personality, camaraderie, visual experience that makes the band who they are.
"Laudato si" is latin not italian and it means "be praised". "Ad astra" is latin too and it means "to the stars". And yes Floor is singing and it's a very difficult song to sing and I'm not talking only about the operatic part.
Yes it was Floor. :) Gorgeous! You should watch Floor and Simone Simons from Epica doing Stabat Mater Dolorosa - wonderful. Btw The quote from Shakespeare was written on the urn that Shoemakers ashes are in on the moon.
🤣🤣 Floor also said that Tuomas challenged her big time with this album. Getting Shoemaker right with that rythm and up-and-down bouncing notes, literally syllable by syllable, is quite a task for a singer.
People often hear/watch/mention only Floor and these talented musicians. In fact without Tuomas Holopainen we never could have heard these wonderful, absolutely incredible music sounds we now can witness. Tuomas is a genius who can create almost anything including poets and the whole show we see. A true maestro of our time.
You HAVE to watch this performed live. I saw them when they came to MN, USA in May 2022 and this song....I think all of us there needed to be reminded to close our mouths. It was awe-inspiring to witness.
Awesome, thanks! If you ever get the chance to catch Nightwish performing this song live, do whatever it takes to be there. It's other-worldly, especially the operatic outro, which Floor performs ... well ... flawlessly! I was lucky enough to see them play this in NYC a few months ago. I hope Shoemaker stays on the set list forever.
Fun fact, Floor is married to the drummer in Sabaton, she did the outro operatic vocals to Christmas Truce, which you listened to recently. She is phenomenal.
Your ability to break down the thematic in the song is wonderful. You are a teacher. I am a friend of the Shoemaker family. They had no idea this song existed. I sent it to them and they put it on the family you tube channel. It was well received.
Yep, that was Floor, they're playing this live on the current tour and it's incredible - the version from Diechbrand this year is particularly impressive 🤘
There is much beauty in metal, and it is THE most tight nit community, willing to give everything to make music an experience. Born and raised in the 70's Bronx, I grew up on Stevie Wonder & Michael Jackson, and here I am today, a certified metal head for 40+ years. Welcome. 🤗
If you hear it again, try to hear the 3 voices. The top one is from Troy (guitar, al medival instruments and wind instruments and chorus), then you hear Floor at the middle and at the back doing a high ans soft voice Marco ( bass player, guitar, Second voice or first voice in some songs)
Another great reaction I love nightwish they truly give metal a completely different look and Floor is a total beast the first time I heard this I was in awe like you I had my mouth open the whole song lolso your not the only one. thanks for todays ride it was great as always your humble ride or die forever Ey Ooooo ps I am so glad to be back where I can leave you messages here
Wonderful reaction. This tribute to Shoemaker makes me tear up every time. It's one of the most beautiful endings i'v heard. Floor is amazing. All my love goes to her this times.❤️ Thank you for sharing.❤️
Hello Rosalie, great reaction. Saw Floor and the band in London 8 days ago and yes, Shoemaker is as awesome live as it is in this lyric video..... enraptured audience with Floor's closing vocals. Must now be a Nightwish gig on your bucket list??!!
Yes, that was Floor. Such a wonderful song, such an amazing arrangement and concept. The song is about Eugene Shoemaker, a geologist who developed planetary geology.
Even Floor had to admit she had trouble to get the ending right. It took some takes in her home studio, but singing with the recorded choir helped her. Tuomas was doubtful at first if this song could be done live. Floor convinced him to do so and it is on their setlist now. Check out one of the latest live performances and be amazed (again).
The Shakespeare quote is engraved on the capsule containing the ashes of Shoemaker planted on the moon. Floor had 1 year opera training. e.g. the 'Ave Maria' with Marko. 'Stabat mater dolorosa' with Simone Simons. And we all hope she fully recovers.👃❤
Great reaction to a magnificent piece of music. I can't understand how Floor does this live it's such and ethreal ending to the song yet it's so strong. Brilliant
Great reaction as always! One little thing that article you read about Eugene Shoemaker omitted, is that his greatest wish was to step foot on the moon and he even trained to be an astronaut but had to be disqualified due to his being diagnosed with Addison’s disease.
first Nighwish thought this song can not be performed live because it is too hard to sing and harmonize, but we know the challenge was taken and beautifully mastered. Take a look at 'shoemaker' LIVE performance at Hellfest2022 or Deichbrand Festival 2022 All the best to Floor, get well soon Valkyrie 🐺🤘
God, what a video and song. Take one part brilliant composing, one part soaring vocals, one part amazing instrumentals and you have a phenomenal song. Add in the absolutely stunning video and uplifting lyrics and you have a masterpiece.
This is about Gene Shumaker. His ashes where placed on the moon because he always wanted to go there. He was a famous astrophysicist who love to study the inpacts on the moon and always wanted to go there.
Yea! It's Floor repeating the classic song she sang at the end of the Sabaton video. While the phrase "outward urge" refers to "The Outward Urge", a science fiction novel by English writer John Wyndham, an ardent rationalist, that term is a metaphor for space exploration. In "the whole starmap" sky chart is a map of the night sky used to identify and guide yourself by identifying stars in the heavens, widely used from antiquity to the modern era, including the Age of Discovery (Columbus, Cabral, etc).
This is one of the songs from Human:II:Nature that is being played on the current tour. Videos from Hellfest and Deichbrand are on TH-cam, check out the live version later.
So happy that you did this one, it’s already become one of my favorites next to Dead Boys Poem, Greatest Show on Earth and Poet and the pendulum. Too bad you didn’t use a live version. Check them for yourself. When I heard the studio version, I thought this will be amazing live. Some people thought this can’t be done live. Check your own reaction and your eyes and eyebrows on the last part and then take Hellfest or Deichbrand live version and be even more amazed. Yes it’s Floor doing the ‘opera’ singing. Check the control live, it’s scary and heavenly at the same time………
This is one of Tuomas' most cathartic songs..and of course Floor sings it just as beautifully flawlessly live..PS:Please, if I feel good that you believe in God, say a prayer for Floor so that she gets well as soon as possible after breast cancer surgery. thank you
The instrument in the intro is a hammered dulcimer, beautiful instrument. They even reference it in the lyrics, at 5:40 in your video: "calling with the sound of a dreamlike dulcimer".
A remarkable tribute to an amazing scientist. I get puddled eyes with the line "cut into little stars," for Eugene Shoemaker was cremated, or in my mind ... cut into little stars ... and sent to the moon. Tuomas finds a way to reach into your chest and touch your heart in his every composition. Floor has given him the ability to write so far beyond other artists, and he knows how to use the colors she offers from her color pallet, and all he does is create masterpieces. Don't worry, Rosalie, we're all sitting there with our mouths agape as well. Nice reaction!
Its a requiem to Shoemaker , Shoemaker is the only human which ashes are burried on the moon . He was brought there in 1998 by a Lunar Spacecraft Around the capsule is wrapped a piece of brass foil inscribed with an image of a Comet Hale-Bopp, an image of Meteor Crater in northern Arizona, and a passage from William Shakespeare's enduring love story, "Romeo and Juliet": And, when he shall die, Take him and cut him out in little stars, And he will make the face of heaven so fine That all the world will be in love with night, And pay no worship to the garish sun.
Lovely reaction. I know most us of say Nightwish live is better (usually is) but for me the lyric video for this one with it's stunning visuals, especially at the end, are so epic. It is pretty amazing live. During the pandemic before they had a chance to tour in support of the album Floor did say she wasn't sure they would be able to do this live but they pull it off so beautifully. This is one of my top 5 Nightwish songs. Not only is it a lovely tribute to Eugene Shoemaker but it is an incredible ode to the human spirit of exploration. For our need to explore beyond earth. I spent 15 years at NASA working on Human Space Flight programs and I hope this song will inspire more people to support and become part of our exploration of the universe.
Great reaction again! 3:30 it's definetely their signature - Tuomas is a poet. The members of the band who sing (Floor, Marko, Troy) have teased Tuomas a bit about how the melodies and lyrics are made by a person who can't really sing, so it adds a special spice to Nightwish's sound. Tuomas hears the melodies, singing voices and lyrics inside his head and according to others they are often completely impossible - too many syllables, s-letters etc. but he really knows how to challenge singers and they have to be ready to work for things. He has especially praised Floor a lot, how dedicated she is and how she doesn't give up easily.
It's nice that there are also reactors that speak Latin / Italian. Ja Floor sang Ad Astra (she also sings this aria at the end of every live concert. The singer of the chorus was not Marko or Tuomas (who by the way doesn't sing anymore since their 2nd album except in demos of new songs) but (with Floor in the 2nd voice) Troy Donockley, the multi-instrumentalist within the band.
Eugene Shoemaker was supposed to go with Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin to the moon , but he had a medical condition that prevented him to go to that famous trip so that is the reason why some of his ashes was buried on the moon .
This one is an Ode to Eugene Shoemaker. I think you may also love the opener from Human :II: Nature, Music. An introduction to the concept and unspoken language of rhythm and melody to humanity. from the perspective of Music as an entity unto itself.
Very amazing music that you choose to react to. Night Wish brings magic to the hard Rock music they work within. For some reason I'm reminded of the Aurora video "Apple Seed". A shocking and wonderful song both deep and rythmic. The shocking part being the visual she brings to it. CHECK IT OUT

it is clear she didnot know who shoemaker was
Live this is just unbelievably good
Shoemaker is the only person whose remains have been placed on any celestial body outside Earth.
That face right there, when Floor hit the Laudato Si And Astra
I never get tired of people making those 😮
Saaaame!

absolutely incredible music sounds we now can witness. Tuomas is a genius
who can create almost anything including poets and the whole show we see.
A true maestro of our time.
Another example of the skills of Floor :Nightwish - How's The Heart Acoustic (Planet Rock acoustic session)
Goosebumps, chills, and tears when you see them perform this live.
I saw them in May and this was the highlight of the evening.
You HAVE to watch this performed live. I saw them when they came to MN, USA in May 2022 and this song....I think all of us there needed to be reminded to close our mouths. It was awe-inspiring to witness.
That was an INCREDIBLE show
Absolute soprano masterpiece at the end.
A true masterpiece of Nightwish 😇😇😇😇
You are in our prayers Goddess 😇😇
Of course she did the ending.
She did 'oh mio bambino caro'.
Nice reaction, keep on going. This song is for sure one of the top 5 nightwish songs for me.
They also did a song called "Sagan" about astronomer Carl Sagan. So many great songs...
Another great reaction I love nightwish they truly give metal a completely different look and Floor is a total beast the first time I heard this I was in awe like you I had my mouth open the whole song lolso your not the only one. thanks for todays ride it was great as always your humble ride or die forever Ey Ooooo ps I am so glad to be back where I can leave you messages here
right? it's craziness.
The singer with Floor is Troy, and it is probably his guitar with the ebow
Eugene Shoemaker came to be the only person buried on the moon this song is a tribute to that man you are correct
Wonderful reaction. This tribute to Shoemaker makes me tear up every time. It's one of the most beautiful endings i'v heard. Floor is amazing. All my love goes to her this times.❤️ Thank you for sharing.❤️
She sings this live...it is the most GLORIOUS experience I have ever had at a concert.
Floor sang throughout the song including the ending.
Yes that was Floor and they pull that of live, too. you can watch it live at Hellfest 2022 f.e.
Brilliant
Existential is the word. Makes you realize how infinitesimally insignificant we are in the grand scheme of things.
Great reaction as always! One little thing that article you read about Eugene Shoemaker omitted, is that his greatest wish was to step foot on the moon and he even trained to be an astronaut but had to be disqualified due to his being diagnosed with Addison’s disease.
Oh interesting. Thank you for sharing that.
And the Shakespeare quote was engraved on the urn his ashes were sent to the moon in.
You need to see Floor doing the Ad Astra ending live.❤️😎🇧🇻
first Nighwish thought this song can not be performed live because it is too hard to sing and harmonize, but we know the challenge was taken and beautifully mastered.
Take a look at 'shoemaker' LIVE performance at Hellfest2022 or Deichbrand Festival 2022
All the best to Floor, get well soon Valkyrie 🐺🤘
Floor literally melts the universe when sung live.
Try Hellfest or Deichbrand and be astonished and catch all those flies nearby lol.
Live even better🤟🏻🤟🏻🎶🎶
This is one of the songs from Human:II:Nature that is being played on the current tour. Videos from Hellfest and Deichbrand are on TH-cam, check out the live version later.
Loved your reaction reaction! Sending prayers to our beautiful Queen 👑🙏
Floor will come back even stronger 💪
Tribute to Eugene Shoemaker by Tuomas. His wife Johanna reads this awesome Shakespeare quote.
Check the control live, it’s scary and heavenly at the same time………
🤩👌💥💯
And next check out live version of this awesomeness of their tasty repertoire... 😉
🤘😎 🇫🇮 💙
Keine Sorge;wir alle sitzen öfters mit offenen Mund da wenn uns Floor ihre ganze Klasse zeigt.Für mich einer der schönsten Songs vom Album.
I have difficulties listening to this without tearing up
And she can pull this off live, oh yes :)
This is one of Tuomas' most cathartic songs..and of course Floor sings it just as beautifully flawlessly live..PS:Please, if I feel good that you believe in God, say a prayer for Floor so that she gets well as soon as possible after breast cancer surgery. thank you
heavens! your videos are the best!
The instrument in the intro is a hammered dulcimer, beautiful instrument. They even reference it in the lyrics, at 5:40 in your video: "calling with the sound of a dreamlike dulcimer".
Not too many people get that, well done !
For a live performance see the recent Arte Hellfest France Shoemaker to hear in real time
There is a live version around... many of the audience must wipe away tears at Floor's Laudato Si
This song gets me every time.
You need to watch the live version
Its a requiem to Shoemaker , Shoemaker is the only human which ashes are burried on the moon . He was brought there in 1998 by a Lunar Spacecraft
Around the capsule is wrapped a piece of brass foil inscribed with an image of a Comet Hale-Bopp, an image of Meteor Crater in northern Arizona, and a passage from William Shakespeare's enduring love story, "Romeo and Juliet":
And, when he shall die,
Take him and cut him out in little stars,
And he will make the face of heaven so fine
That all the world will be in love with night,
And pay no worship to the garish sun.
The Nighwish space journey continues in this stunning song.
Seen this live and it was MAGNIFICENT
The Romeo & Juliet poem was carved into the urn carrying Shoemaker's ashes which was dopped on the Moon......
This song is dedicated to Eugen Shoemaker. The quote from Shakespeare is engraved on his cofin.
Can't wait to see that ending live in December. Before that, we wish her the best for her health. 💖
Maybe look at shoemaker live... she is fantastic!
Eugene Shoemaker was supposed to go with Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin to the moon , but he had a medical condition that prevented him to go to that famous trip so that is the reason why some of his ashes was buried on the moon .
yes the opera is floor
This one is an Ode to Eugene Shoemaker. I think you may also love the opener from Human :II: Nature, Music. An introduction to the concept and unspoken language of rhythm and melody to humanity. from the perspective of Music as an entity unto itself.
Really good choice of song!
Look up "Canticle of the Sun" from Francis of Assisi. It makes a lot of sense to connect the theme and the "laudato si" to this poem.
I think you sitting there mouth open just communicates it very clearly that you're in awe. Nothing wrong with that!
