Every time I'm approaching the charity shop in my town, I fantasize about seeing in the window "Electronic Drum Machine - Not Working, No Sounds - £50" and seeing a mint, grey SP1200 sitting there...
Lmao!!..I feel you!!
I used to be the lucky guy back in the day before the internet got popular, i accidentally found some great gear in the local paper, free classifieds. Sometimes people would post very generic descriptions like " drum machine " or keyboard , most of the time the gear was being sold by elderly folks that used to be musicians or parents of kids that had moved away. To be honest i didnt even know the value of some of the gear i was buying., all i knew that i was buying gear to make techno. Those days are long gone. Now even my local thrift shop overprices music gear when they get some in. I Blame Pawn Stars for ruining the bargains !!! Now everybody thinks they have gold !!!!
Yup!!..I feel you..I was the lucky guy once..But now I notice even if a shop doesn't know the value of something.. They rather hold on to it for a minute till they find out its worth lol..Before they use to just sell that kind of item dirt cheap.
I got pretty lucky when I bought an MPC Live 2 for 600€ and a SP-555 for 200... Currently hunting for a vintage MPC
All of the above 💯
Lol I feel you.
i got an mpc500 for 350 on reverb. it came from japan, usually japanese equipment is a bit cheaper for whatever reason and you dont have to pay import duties on anything under $800
That's a goog tip, i was always unsure about ordering MPCs from japan because i thought their power (plugs) are different and ran on 50hz
Damn, that’s good to know!
Oh ok nice!..I was always worried about shipping..But ok cool!
@@johnstarks5323 All Japanese consumer electronics run on 100VAC and can run both 50Hz and 60Hz.
import taxes are the issue with stuff form japan. at least to the uk. its pretty unpredictable but for expensive gear the taxes if charged can be a lot. plus if you need to return it’s a hassle, and hmrc won’t refund those taxes!
All of them
i'm definitely the voltron shopper, I think we all wanna be the lucky guy. Also I just accidentally learned while watching this video if you left click once on a video and hold it, it automatically speeds it up to 2x until you let go.
Lol!..I was the lucky guy only once.
I’m a research, new buyer, and thrift store shopper. I’m actually going to Nashville today and going to see if I can find a couple thrift stores while I’m out there.
Oh ok nice!..Im a researcher as well..Im the type that would buy an akai s3000 instead of an mpc 3000 lol.
My guitar teacher was 'the lucky guy' when it came to guitar amps
Lol.
You’re vids are the best man! 😁
Thanks fam.
I miss my red ASR x PRO… that pic brought back memories.
Lol..I feel you.
Fantastic video! I was waiting the entire time for one of these "shoppers" to use AI to always be scanning for the sought item without all the effort and time spent looking manually. I am not on that level yet, but I get the sense that its within reach for non-programmers. I do have craigslist alerts setup for stuff like the EMU PX-7 / MP-7 or the Roland MV-8800, including nearby cities which would be worth the trouble for the right deal (and my thinking is in these other markets maybe less potential buyers are looking). The fixing it approach is of course a mixed bag - in your example there was very good reason to assume that the fix would work out because the display worked, it was just dim, some pads worked, etc but its often more complicated. I would just caution to folks who aren't really savvy at DIY fixing (I'm not nearly as good as I wish) that unless you're extremely confident, don't sink too much money into buying the as-is stuff
Yeah I feel you on that..Trying to fix gear is no joke..I was thinking of getting into that but when I saw what it really takes to do that kind of stuff I was like forget it Lol!
I'm a vulture shopper. The guy that buys gear during a pandemic. People are passing on and folks need funeral money.
Dang!..I feel you.
I think I'm "the handyman" but end up "the project guy".
Lol I feel you.
I'm the lucky guy. I have bought a lot of equipment with out looking for it.
Oh ok nice!
My technique is buy broken pro audio for the cheap get the schematics, buy the parts to fix it. The knobs and electronic buttons I get for Pennies. Resale it and buy something new I want.
Oh ok nice!
We should ban lucky people. 😂
Lmao!!!
I'm the window shopper. Looking at gear on ebay, watching comparision videos. But told myself to use what I have first.
No doubt bro!
You. Are. The. Man.
You forgot pawn shops man!
I’m all of them except the first one. The drift store would have had that ASR-10 priced at market value. 😂🤣😂
Lmao!
Synth4sale subreddit had ya boy in a choke hold for a lil bit LOL I used to be the voltron shopper lol
Lmao!!
Lucky Voltron here! I’m still waiting to produce the greatest songs of all time though! 😂
Lmao! I feel you!
you missed global positioned buyer.. nothing comes up in my area nor a 300 mile radius .. for ALL of my life. I've had to travel to the large cities to find gear since 1988. I live in a 'low grade gear consumer zone'. Just having Technics 1200 in 1990 was like revolutionary around these parts. I remember the SP-1200 was as low as $1200 in 1991 in the upstairs records catalogue - that haunts me to this day.
Oh wow!..Thats crazy..I feel you.
Zoom sst 224 first sp 808. First set up!
Nice!
I’m Voltron. Before I shop, I have to form feet and legs…….
Lmao!
I'm a dumbass shopper , I see stuff , I get too excited , I buy it
Dang!!..Lmao!!
I’m definitely the lucky guy
Nice.
I think I'm the evil variant of the handyman producer, I like to buy beaten/broken electronics that still produce sound and use them to create bold new sounds the designer never intended. Doesn't even have to be music gear.
Lmao! I feel you!
This is hilarious. I'm definitely number 1! I always luck out on underpriced used gear.
Nice.
I hate you so much😂 never happens to me.
Voltron here.
No doubt!
I'm all of them 😊
Nice!
I guess i'm the handyman lmfao, the story you said was the exact thing I did. My MPC 1000 is now white, green glow in the dark pads, pink side panels fully refurbished.
Nice!!
Bearing on incomprehensible but still enjoyable. Careful not to let things go too far
Lol!
I’m the lucky guy lol 🤷🏾♂️ Garage sales and pawn shops have hidden gems (everything is not online)
Nice!
Im definitely a Voltron
Lol..No doubt bro!
All!! Lol
Lol I feel you.
I'm the handyman
Cool!
Pawnshops but you got to have cash
Lol!
Fizmo!!!
Lmao!! Word!
I was Voltron when I first started😂 but I’ve settled in to just being an MPC Ableton guy I’m most comfortable right there👍.
Lol..No doubt bro!
I am handyman smartass that is basically a ghetto Voltron with no luck, what am I?
Lol..Im the Smart ass.
I hustled to get my $1000 to get my first sampler (zoom st224)snd Tascman 4 track recorder with eq .
Oh ok no doubt.
Learn. To. Soulder.
Never got into that..But I know some folks are really good with that..They even made businesses reselling based on there solder skills.
@@DyReckProductions there's nothing to it but getting the right tools and learning how to use flux. If the government wasn't in our digital pockets I'd be flipping mpc1000s all day.
Buy gear you actually desire and so you’ll have money to get it when it’s your turn. 😉
True!
I've been all 4 types of buyers. I flip a lot if gear, mostly XLs so I'm always scouring. Found a Technics 1200 for 50 bucks one time and was the lucky guy.
I got one for $25.
Oh ok nice!
I'm Voltron
I feel you.
S900 from the pawn shop for $40
Nice!!
Ive learned to be a smart voltron
No doubt!..Im the smart guy..But im learning I probably should Voltron it a bit lol.
I can be a bit if each of these types, but mostly a Voltron shopper lol.
Lol no doubt!
I'm pretty much alluvem except lucky 😅
Lmao!
I am all of these but stupid because I then sold alot of my rare finds back when I thought selling on ebay would not have irs $600 a year reporting issues forcing me to stop selling online all together. Now I am looking for any of this and have to be the lucky guy at random again, need to be the fix it guy for some again, and the smart A guy for other things I can not find like a Fantom X, and the voltron for yet other things like the newest Roland zen core based products that are CHEAP right now so instead of shelling $4000 for one keyboard with it all, I shell out $1000 for small pocket and battery operated and off the wall gear that has the same engine.. Versalab..mc 101, JD-Xi,etc.
No doubt fam..I feel you..Alot of folks was selling all types of great gear for cheap in the mid 2000's.
First
Thanks bro!
def a combo of 3 and 4. im at guitar center, on the sites including
reverb and independent places like isla. I can get amazing sound off a 2400 and rack mount synths at a better price thats what im gonna do. i cant buy nothing broke though lol
Lol..I feel you on the buying broke stuff..Its too big of a risk for me.
Vultron again lol. Never been lucky in those thrift/pawnshops. Never brought anything broken already, always went straight for the source of the sound and not imitations of it. Vultron I mean I got like the Fantom and still will use like a JV-1080 and XV-5080...Or like having all the current MPC's and even the Force and would just hook up another keyboard before even thinking of the key61.
Oh ok no doubt.
🫡🔥🫡👍🏾
Thanks fam!
