The 1000 blue made the unit look like a toy. The 4000 looked intimidating if anything. But it seems they took the design of the 4000 and used it for the X.

The MPC One in red is kinda dope to me. The gold version is too much tho. I only got the black one so I threw a OG beige skin on it.

The Mpc 4000 white looks pretty good to me it reminds me of a NAUTICA or Hilfiger jacket from the 90’s. It was an intimidating Mpc when I first got it but the sonics are amazing and now it’s the workhorse along with the asr 10

I like the Akai MPC One + color scheme. The Japanese word Akai translates to “red” or “warrior”. I’m surprised that there hasn’t been more red Akai offerings in the MPC line. I know a brand name doesn’t necessarily constitute what your colors should be though. I still will always favor the classic grey/beige from Akai though. The MPC 2000XL SE3 has long been on my list to attain that was a deviation from that. I owned a 2500 LE and always loved how it looked. Form factor and color wise, I’m happiest with my Live 2 retro, though.

I was gonna mention the 60 as one of the worst looking lol..But I thought it was the OG MPC! that started it all and without it we wouldn't even be talking about an MPC so I gave it a pass lol.
Is the time clock on the 60 different from the other MPCs?
I had a chance to play on a 60 for a few days. The drum tracks I did hit different. I tried to recreate them on my 2kxl and the timing never came out the same.

Most beautiful to me: the MPC 3000 in original beige. I have one and it is very special.
I got an MPC One + and I could never get used to the red, I even tried to skin it but the whole vents on the side is red and would show through, so you had to find one that fit and the one I got didn't fit, so I left it red.
Live II was better anyway
At least with MPC Studio you can tell it's unfinished. With MPC Renaissance it does look like it's a finished product, but in reality they stopped half way.
That OG MPC Studio black was the best one. I had one and sold it when I got the One. I could kick myself for that. 🤣🤣

This is DaveDaves. I totally totally agree the MPC One+ in red is awful looking and I couldn't believe they did that. And I also liked the original MPC One's look just fine. So if I were buying one now, I wouldn't know what to pick! Because it would be super silly to just not get the extra RAM, wifi, bluetooth because I don't like the color .... but I really hate the color! I do like the limited edition vintage look MPC One
The MPC 3000. It’s actually why I didn’t buy one. They weren’t selling well and akai painted it black and added music note graphics to make it look cool.
It had less new features than the 2000xl. Every body was on the XL and that 4000 was just around the corner. I had no idea why akai kept selling the 3000 for so long when nobody wanted it in the 2000’s. It was like a relic of the 90’s they were trying to trick people into buying for 3grand and no young up and coming producer used one.
Swizz,Kanye etc all used the 2000xl. I guess it be like the XL was FL Studio and the 3000 was like Cakewalk. It was some old outdated stuff no one wanted to bother with.
Fast forward I know that today it’s majestical hype but to me it’s still the old ass weird mpc people would try to dump for Pennies to buy the 5000.
I will never be able to get over that or how much people will pay for the worst looking Mpc that doesn’t even let you see the wav.
Ps. I’ve always been in love with the 4000. It will always be the ultimate version of the classic Mpc line up and the hype addicts of today ruined that deal even. Folks want like $2grand for them boxes. 6-7 years ago you could get them for like $500 bucks all day!

Haha I only have the One +. All I’ll say is the red is a noticeably darker in person than it looks on the box or screeenshots. Which is a good thing, but yeah I get it

The color scheme of MPC-1000 Blue and MPC-4000 blue / white were quite questionable (basically toward the end of the original Akai Professional products, including Z4 / Z8 samplers, which had pretty impressive specs even today's standard.) I thought that MPC-500 and MPC-5000 were not great looking ...
I didn't mind the 500 and the 5000 look..The 5k did look boring though..It was like they were playing it safe..For something that big you would think they would add a bit more color but I still felt it looked ok.
I like the gold MPC X, I wouldn't buy one but I like it, matches My gold Hercules 500 decks.

I think one of the missed designs of all times I saw a sleek Atari black case with the Atari logo on it and it looked immaculate. I recently got a Geo tracker and it’s interesting to see all the different color combos that you can do that car in the little zigzag, he designs, because depending on what color you put on that car, it makes it pop more just like with these music devices.

You are right the original MPC 1000 looks clownish! all you need is a pair of NIKE's shoes (the ones with those bright color schemes) to match the MPC's and your all set to roll into town for your next performance under the circus tent. But in all seriousness, I am glad they made the black version that was a good call by the AKAI team. I love my 1000!
The 1000 Blue does look like Akai tried to Nerf it as an MPC, and they badically did, because the first 1000 OS didnt even have sample auto chop only " sample division", yeah they were throwing the " this is the Windows XP (basic) edition of the MPC, and were pushing the 5000 with only a Techno music demo, man those were the days 😂😂😂😂😂
There was this ‘80s thing where people loved that kinda-dark but dull “navy blue” that looked like a really bad suit. And your mom got excited about navy blue and next thing you know there’s an epidemic of boys in Sears Toughskins and girls in navy blue jumpers getting their asses kicked in elementary school.

Blue wouldn't be so bad with those nasty sides the 1000 had. you know Akai there are other colors besides the ones you have used. Black and Navy blue are my favorites.

I was close I knew one of the gold units was going to in the list. I have MPC ONE gold and some times I wish I had the black color.
I dig the gold..Thats what made me get it lol..The black looks dope too though.

MPC1000 blue is fine, but the red plastic cheeks are what kills it for me. Some stained wood (cherry, blue stain pine) cheeks could have carried it.
for other newer units, gold highlights on black are classy, but large expanses of gold seem really gaudy. even if it were limited to knobs, I'd be worried about them flaking over time.
and probably an unpopular take, but the mpc60mk2 is my vote for butterface. it looks like they took the clean box of the mpc60 (and 3000) and baked it into melted plastic. the way the whole top is slanted instead of just the LCD puts it over the top. (I'd still take one in a heartbeat, though.)
Idk I like the look of the 60 mk2..But I know alot of folks feels it looks weird.
Looks and appearance dosnt really constitute value in terms of the quality of an electronic instrument it’s just a bonus. Sound quality, workflow efficiency and build quality are what any unit should be measured against first and foremost. If you had a Ferrari that had a Kia engine running it and was built in China it’s still not any good. If you have a sleeper rust bucket that has an ls engine with blower installed on straight piped exhausts and sports suspension it’s an awesome machine. The looks are not a factor.

I don’t care about the looks. It’s what I can do with it. That being said, the Compaq computer beige color of the past MPCs and current throwback units is the least appealing ones to me. The One+ is fine with me. Black is best. The Studio Mk2 is also good with me.
The ugliest MPC ever was the orange 2000XL SE2. Completely in a league of its own.

I love the OG mpc60 and 3000 hard edges. ASQ-10 is all-metal, and doesn't even have the cheeks. put those up next to an akai MG614 or MG1214 and we're talking.

I totally agree with you on the MPC One Plus I wanted the features it has but wasn’t feeling that damn red color so I stuck with the original however they should of made a retro version of the Plus, I wasn’t interested in the 4000 or the X because it used the same software of the One but that gold I wasn’t feeling either
They should have probably made the OnePlus a blend of two colors..The Red just feels like they didn't put much thought in it or ran out of ideas lol.

early '00s were all about the blue color. So of course there was MPC1000 that is blue, just like your synths were blue (OB-12/MS2000), your DAWs were blue (Cubase), your Windows XP was blue and your Mac was blue as well.
