Due to the rapid development of skyscrapers in Chicago,
As of 2024, there were skyscrapers proposed or under construction,
including One Chicago Square, 1000M, and Bank of America Tower,
as well as Tribune Tower East, an approved skyscraper set to become the city's second-tallest building.
Below is a list of the skyscrapers under construction or planned to be built in Chicago,
and are listed in order from shortest to tallest.

New York is mainly the birthplace of skyscrapers, only 11 skyscrapers in history got world's tallest building, New York has 7 of those titles

Not afraid. It cost money. Office space is abundant. No one is going to put that kind of money in a purely office building. So it has to have many factors playing together to get the right environment to get something that tall. New York can afford to have 1/2 empty Condo towers. Has more appeal to foreign investment. Chicago has always been a more practical builder of buildings.

@@jennpika6301 There are literally 1000's of tall buildings in USA. We were building them when China just grew Rice and Saudi Arabia was just sand. So not much to understand. The money was and has been invested for almost 150 years. Since the USA invented the Skyscraper. Look At New York. Chicago. Miami. Atlanta. There are 1000 foot buildings everywhere in USA. Also the most and the tallest is not helping China in their Real Estate bust. Many buildings are sitting empty there. And the last point. Super tall Skyscrapers have lost their appeal to investors. Money is in abundance in USA. It just is not being throw at "glamour" projects. Office space is not in demand. Covid has people still working from home. Most tall buildings now are for living, And they are still being built. Look at all the new Super Tall Condos and Apartment buildings in New York. The World has just caught up with USA. That is understandable.
America is actually afraid of the terrorist that attacked New York City on September 11 , 2001 ! They're not trying to Outdo China/ Arabia in Height or Design ! America is just building little simple basic mediocre skyscrapers like the World Trade 1 that was suppose to have been higher but suddenly they reduced the size to 1776 feet along with the Spire or the Spire is what makes it the tallest building in America ! Also the Chicago Tribune was originally suppose to have been taller than the Sears Tower but somehow they agreed to reduce the size of it so they're afraid of something ! Personally, I would Love to see a building surpass the Sears Tower because it's not going to take anything away from the Sears Tower especially if it's built in the right location !

When you look at all the residential skyscrapers it is amazing the number of wealthy and ultra wealthy people that will be packed into the downtown area.
Chicago along with New York City and Los Angeles will only be affordable to the wealthy elite and big time powerbrokers.
It will be 20 years before Chicago builds another building 900 ft or taller.
I think there might be some lobbying coming from New York to not allow super talls to be built in Chicago. They want to maintain their status as the city with tallest buildings.

@@lewisgarrison860 you jumped to conclusions without giving any thought to it. Lobbying against super talls in Chicago means that New York maintains its status as the city with most and tallest skyscrapers in US which brings in more tourists every year to the city and raises the property value.
To whomever it was that did the reading of the script for this video: no one ever pronounces "ft" as "eff tee". It is an abbreviation that is always pronounced "feet". "Eff tee" sounds ridiculous.

Exactly, and 400 lakeshore drive just started prepping for construction and will not be completed in 2024. He just gathered a bunch of random internet information without actually seeing what’s going on with the projects.
