3 DAYS?!?! Girl!!! Get a few shades of Behr’s water based wood stain and play around with those. I’ve done my own versions with those and they only take a few hours to dry. These came out gorgeous though!
I know 😭😭 to be fair it was pretty cold out so that made it longer, cause I’ve done this in summertime and it did dry faster. But YES I’ve seen yours with the Behr stain and the flogging- if the client hadn’t reached out with Rebrushed by Maddison’s reel doing it this way I would have played around with that technique! Thanks for watching Katie! ❤️
I am shocked! What a time intensive and nerve intensive job this was! I can’t imagine a beginner like me doing this for all the pieces you did nor doing it well. This is a skill that must take practice to achieve at least a level of confidence that it will work out. Good for you showing us the tips and tricks that you found helped you achieve such a professional level finish. You knocked it out of the park! WOW it is stunning!
You have definitely done the best job with this finish and I totally agree with all of your "rants" lol. Your attention to detail and the extra taping paid off!
Lol! Thank you so much ❤️ I swear everyone’s on here not acknowledging how fast it can start looking messy hahah but I don’t have the steadiest hand so maybe that plays a part too 😂 thanks for watching Maple!
Omg finally someone that’s not crazy about this finish. It’s not my style at all and it’s really labor intensive to do. Your pieces looks gorgeous by the way. Excellent job
I like it when it’s done well! It just takes a heck of a lot of focus and time to do well and its not worth the effort when it can’t be sold for that much more than a solid colour 😭
It drives me nuts when I see someone on TH-cam do this finish and talk about how simple and beginner friendly it is, but then when they show the results they look terrible! Yours are absolutely gorgeous!
That finish is one of my favorite. Your set looks amazing and I think it would be worth the time it took to accomplish that look. Just amazing and I love it. I am getting ready to do my living room 3 drawer chest in the faux PB and now I will be doing the taping and waiting. Soooo worth it. ❤
So this one just came up in my feed.... Oh Girl... this is where the true Artistry comes out..and your work just shines!!! . You have done a amazing job on these.... that finish is exquisite!!! Well done!! I am envious of You... wishin I had a partner in the shop some days... everything is so much easier with two.. I think we are related too, somewhere in a different lifetime... those older Chevy/GMC's in the background are making my heart go flutter... HAHAHAH... I drive a 96E/C 2500 and I love my beast. Great for moving furniture!! Oh was gonna mention, I love the monetary breakdown you gave, as our markets are pretty similar... My busiest is always spring time.. this time of year.... Ill be heading back to my shop usually end of March, but if weather holds, might be sooner. You are definitely giving me the boost I needed.. and I love that you share all the products, good and bad. Thank you so much. Great upload, and amazing work .. and Auntie looks like an absolute HOOT too... You two make one hell of a good team, with Puppers in background, supervising. 🤣 Two thumbs up from me on these ones!!
Rigatoni Ridges! Perfect example for those of use who are visual. The end result of all of your hard work and attention to detail - absolutely fabulous! Thank you for your amazing tutorial. Well done!
I have watched a ton of TH-cam videos on this finish. You are absolutely correct, everybody says it’s easy, it is not and yours is by far the best I’ve seen. They turned out awesome! I was hesitant to try this but you gave such a detailed tutorial that I may try it on a small piece… with no trim 😂
Thank you so much!! I’ve done this finish a handful of times and each time I learn something new to make the next one better, so it’s definitely practice too! Yes you should try it, it is a lot of fun and it’s even better when it starts coming together ❤️
I love this finish and have done it often. However … I just did a piece this weekend that, for the first time, wasn’t completely flat. There was trim like yours. So yes, it can be a little tedious. But truly this is the best technique to do when there are lots of nicks, dings scratches etc in the wood. Your pieces look great. Great profit!!!!
I totally agree! It can camouflage so much, and that’s super helpful when you want to save time. Where are all these flat angel pieces?! 😂 thank you so much I’m super happy with the result ❤️
These came out great and I agree that the finish is hard to do on anything with detail. So far I’ve only used it on the tops of furniture and it looks really professional.
Hi Charlie...I love this makeover, no I haven't done this method before, it scares me, lol...These pieces are gorgeous, great bottom line too....Take care...cheers !!!
Came out great! Thanks for sharing the struggles. I did a side table in the finish, but I used Dixie Belle voodoo water based gel stain, but did lighter stain color. It was flat on top and sides the drawers were rattan, so I painted them the base color and just did the frame around them which were rounded. It came out so good.
Ooo I’ve been wanting to try those out for a while now! Those sound pretty, do you have them up? I haven’t done anything with rattan yet although I like the look of it. Hahaha the struggle was so real for me in this one, especially inside the nightstands 😂 thanks for watching and commenting! ❤️
I appreciate the taping that you did. I have seen other flippers ignore that and I don't think the finished product looks as good as yours. Extra work and time but it is worth it.
WOW!!! As always you out did yourselves!!!! All three pieces look spectacular!!! Amazing job… each piece you both do just gets better and better! By the way, I think your aunt loves you very much ❤️❤️❤️😁
Came out beautiful! That was a big set! I have everything I need to do this look... Just waiting for it to get warmer because it's too cold in the garage. 🥶. I hope I can do it. 👍
Thank you Linda! Yeah the cold weather definitely doesn’t do this finish any favours 😂 a heater would warm up the space to make it dry a little quicker although you don’t wanna forget to turn it off 😅 yes I’m sure you can! Let me know if you end up doing it, I’d love to see!! Thanks for commenting ❤️
I can vouch for all the issues you mentioned. The most annoying to me is finding a spot or area that’s not quite right and having to do the whole surface again . Ugh I’ve tried several times to make it blend fixing one spot but nope looks like crap. It isn’t easy per se like you said . I didn’t find it to take 3 days though but maybe it was warmer or less humid where I was doing it . Your end result looks awesome!
Omg isn’t that the worst!!! You literally can’t spot fix something or else it looks like poo poo. Yeah I was doing it in the dead of winter so that had something to do with it probably. It’s so give and take though, if it dried fast then it wouldn’t be so workable to get the whole section right in time. I still prefer this glaze over the other glazes I’ve tried cause it’s extra slippery so you can spread it out farther. Thank you for sharing!! I knew people just weren’t talking about it 😂
You know it! My first time trying this "beginner friendly" technique had me wondering what the heck was wrong with me...loved your rant and can relate.
This technique is difficult for the lines of that piece, I spent so many hours on a similar project, so I feel your pain. Plus it looked pretty cold outside, which I hate working in the cold. It turned out beautifully. Instead of using the glaze product, I also have tried polycrylic mixed with paint as the "glaze" in a 50/50 ratio approximately. Dries super fast so you can proceed to your next section sooner. You can add a bit of floetrol if you want to extend the dry time. Choose a paint color similar to the glaze color.
Thanks Heidi! It’s such a give and take, I love the workability/fixability of the rustoleum plus the slipperiness of it, it just takes a long time to dry. I’ve tried a paint/glaze mixture but that one wasn’t spreadable enough for me, even though it didn’t take as long to dry 😂 maybe I should have added floetrol like you said to make it more slippery 😅 Thanks for sharing Heidi!!
It turned out so good Holly!! When I did this finish- I found having a fan blowing on the glaze after I finished help dry it faster! Granted I did mine in the summer/fall so I had warmer weather and it dried quick! The taping off is key!!! Turned out so great!
Thank you so much Maddison! This client actually sent me your reel on Instagram as the inspiration, so I think it's so awesome that you've found it! I actually did this back in October/November so it would have been so helpful to have had a fan going. The taping off was definitely essential to this finish, especially with all this trim i had going on 😂
You are preaching to the choir 😂 if theres no trim then sure yeah it's fair to say it's easy, but once you get that trim involved, theres so many opportunities for it to be messy. Thanks for sharing! ❤
This is not the only finish on You Tube that can go bad😳 try bleaching wood!! Do you know some wood bleeds🤣🤣 also Easy Off stripper is not reliable 😫 I have tried it ALL and wood is persnickety😜 and sometimes crazy things happen and stuff can turn out perfect or NOT!! Your video was great best of luck🌷
@@paigeroussel6133 I’m sure I’m only scratching the tip of the iceberg!! I’ve never tried bleaching wood actually, the one with the two part mixture at least. I’ve also heard of spraying household bleach and letting it dry in the sun to lighten wood but again never tried it myself!
Thank you so much! Yeah I kinda had to, I’ve done one in the past that I wasn’t super happy with. It looked great from a bit away but once you got really close the little details bothered me haha 😅 welcome to my little corner of the internet!! 🥰
Satin! I like to use satin paint for that little bit of extra durability (the higher gloss, the more durable) and then seal with a matte top coat. The finish usually turns out somewhere in the eggshell range 😊
I totally agree! Real is always better 😊 I guess the best time to do this finish is if you have a laminate piece that has clean straight lines. I hope you didn’t run into as many challenges as I did! ❤️
Way too much work. The finished product is lovely, but there are other lovely finishes that are not as labor intensive. I hope you had fun doing it, which would make it worthwhile.
Hahah seems like it right?? This was a requested finish so I didn’t mind, but I definitely wouldn’t have done this finish on these specific pieces on my own accord just seeing the open nightstands and all the different trim 😂

@@hollysgarage Well it was totally worth it.
Great info on the challenges of this finish. Your clearly did a very very precise job with the finish. It looks amazing!
Thank you so much Mary! I’ve done this finish before and each time there were always little grievances I had with it 😂

Rigatoni. Perfect example! I need to start doing this finish again. I used to do it in grey, but I should do the Sausalito...Great job!
Try it! It turned out so nice and I love the colour 😍 lol! Can you tell I’m always thinking about food 😂
Great job Holly! Looks very professional 🙃
Great job! Thanks for explaining how this is done. Love your dog.
I hope I did a decent job explaining! Haha thank you, he’s a good boy 🥰
Beautiful and thank you for your honesty. I’ve tried several times to do this finish and am never satisfied. It is not easy.
Thank you! Hahah hard to keep it perfect that’s for sure

PB isn't my jam, but you killed it in this makeover 👍 I'm with you in calling bs on beginner friendly. I'm a beginner & it terrifies me 😵💫😉
