    There's a couple problems that furniture painters have with latex paint. One is that it doesn't age well, it will peel instead of chip as it experiences life's little dings and mishaps. The other is that latex has to be stripped because trying to sand for refinishing is a nightmare. Now, there's no reason that using latex paint following the prep steps you did wouldn't be perfectly fine on cheap pieces of furniture like MDF, laminates etc... I think your piece turned out beautifully. 😍

    I totally agree with what you said about latex paint and your work speaks for itself. I would never spend $20 for an 8 oz container of a very popular chalk-mineral paint when I can get a sample of high quality paint from BEHR for $3.98-$4.98. I use it all the time and it has never failed me.

    Question: if I use a darker paint to achieve more of a rustic brown piece, would the "Java Brown" glaze still work, or would I need to go for a darker glaze, too? Mine are from the 1970's and they are painted a light olive green with off white pinstripes and off white laminate top. Keep up the good work, I greatly appreciate all the time and effort you put into producing these videos.

    Most people don't like latex paint for furniture because it never seems like it is fully cured and durable. The top coat makes all the difference. Sorry I am not a fan of the weird horizontal graining of the sides. The rest is very nice though. You should try the dark aging wax over the topcoat, I think you will like it. That has to go on LAST because no topcoat will stick to wax. Thanks.

    Hi! I just finished repainting a king size bed frame and two dressers in this finish all from this video. It turned out amazing! Wonderful tips. I followed every single thing all the colors and the brushes. So thank you! The dressers that I repainted or older dressers with wood drawers. But they opened OK. I went ahead and rubbed soap on them before putting it all back together thinking that would only make them a little smoother to open. However I’m not sure if it’s actually worse. But the problem I’m really messaging you about is the drawers seem to be sticking together. I did not put soap in between the top and bottom of the outside of the drawers… I don’t know if it’s because there’s paint there and if I should send that down or if I should put soap there as well. So when I open one drawer it’s actually pulling out a second drawer. I sure would appreciate your expertise and help

    • @blacksheephouse
      @blacksheephouse  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m glad you like the finish!! I would try using some wax like they sell in the can at home improvement stores, either Minwax from Lowe’s natural color or Varathane from Home Depot. If they are still sticking you will have to sand either the drawer or the inside of the dresser opening or both in some cases. Hope that helps!

    Hi Shannon! Thank you for all your hard work and educating us. Got a question for you I did this exact process with a Buffet top. But all of the products you suggested. When I go to apply the glaze and wipe back with the deck brush I get little bubbles almost like oil bubbles that I cannot smooth out and dry that way I have done this now on two projects and I’ve had the same result. Can you guess what is going on? I have been refinishing for quite a while so I am cleaning appropriately and it’s almost like the glaze is reacting to the paint in someway and does his little bubble marks??

    Many paints contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which refers to a class of chemicals that evaporate readily at room temperature. When these VOCs off-gas, a process that can last for weeks depending on the type of paint, they may cause a variety of health problems like nausea; dizziness; irritation of the eyes and respiratory tract; heart, lung, or kidney damage; and even cancer.
