I use coconut oil to clean oil brushes and even my hands when I'm cleaning up. Works great. Rub a dab on and then use warm water and soap to remove. Highly recommend.

Oh my goodness I am so inspired! I am an oil painter with a focus on pet portraits and some landscapes but I love the idea of practicing new techniques. I just ordered some R&F sticks but had no idea what to do with them. I have Subscribed to your channel and look forward to learning more. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your craft.

There are so many things to learn with oils, i have been using them for over 30 years, the sticks are very thick, there is the rule in using oils the fat over thin rule. thin oils on first, then fat and thick over thin paint. so in order to get it work properly, paint is used thinly first, then the fat thicker paint over the thin, if your working wet in wet. thick paint slows the drying time down, so the thinner the paint, the quicker it dries, the thicker it goes on first, the longer it takes to dry. If you add thin paint over thick which hasn't yet dried, the paint will crack as it dries, which is why you see a lot of old oil paintings have cracked over time, the thin paint on top dries before the thick paint has had time to dry underneath. Oils are my preferred medium, but there are so many things to learn about them.

This is so very fun…the lighting makes it difficult to see what effects you are creating. Yet, feeling very inspired! I live in Portugal and these sticks are difficult to find and very expensive if you can. Flying back to the US in a week and will pick some up to add to my beginning collection!

Let them know they can’t just put oil sticks on bare paper or canvas because it skill rot the surface over time. Those surfaces be prepped
    With
    Gesso.
Oil can go over acrylic if not too slick but never acrylic over oils.
