I was 9 when I first saw this cinematic, and every time I hear this music or see this intro, it reminds me of the hope I had as a child that anything is possible. I remember believing that magic was real, and that I could teleport to far off places if I only believed hard enough.
I was graduating High School in 1990 when I bought this game and I didn't even own a PC until 1999. I took it to my friends housed to play. My friend Mike had a Tandy 1000. So my first time seeing and hearing it was with Tandy graphics and 3 voice Tandy sound and it still blew me away. Then I was blown away even more seeing it in full VGA graphics and on a Sound Blaster sound card.
This storytelling is at a best seller fantasy book level. One of the most intriguing and introspective intro I have ever seen. I’d have loved to buy a fantasy book collection of Ultima stories, if ever there was one.
ajddavid452 I suggest you listen to Stickerbrush Symphony from Donkey Kong Country 2 then. The game has an amazing soundtrack composed by ONE person, David Wise.
Decades has passed from the time that I, as the Avatar of the Eight Virtues, adventured with my comrades in the dangerous an mysterious paths of Britannia. I will never forget these blissful days of wonder and magic. My nickname I adopt on the web is still the name I choose that time fr my Avatar. And always will be.
Most of U6's tracks are rather melancholy. Given the terrible things happening in Britannia (that were the Avatar's fault, even though he had no malicious intent), it's rather appropriate-and, of course, at the beginning of the game, the Avatar is separated from his friends and has returned to a stiflingly ordinary life back on Earth, and is wondering whether he'll ever return to Britannia again.
I was too young to have enjoyed this, but I had Gauntlet Legends on both N64 and PS1 I liked it so much....surprisingly the N64 version is best amd has the best music.
If the Avatar got into Smash Bros, their trailer should be a spoof of this intro. It'd be present day (surfing modern websites instead of channel surfing) and they pick up an envelope instead of the Orb.

Wonderful, such moments full of joy and magic
I made a "circle of stones" in my backyard, once upon a time. :)

My dad showed me this intro and ever since I have fallen in love with this theme, never played an ultima game but damn does this hit hard
This game's music is awesome even today.
+Ail. It is! :)
This makes me want to play Ultima 6. And I've never played Ultima.
And yes, I was sent by the 8Bit Guy...

I never played this game but this music makes me want too

34 years old. MIDI. Bitcrushed. Still goes way harder than it has any right to.
It sounds so incredibly sad...
Yeah, it is titled 'Can't Remove the Pain'

I'm 14 so I never actually got the chance to play this game but I sure do enjoy the music of it
You could probably find it online, it's on my list of games to play.
I was so blown away by this intro when I first saw it on a system with VGA. Good memories!
I remember seeing this cinematic for the first time and wishing something like it would happen to me.
It was the impeccable writting that made these games so immensely influential and unforgettable. I miss this quality.
Un des meilleurs jeux de rôle où je passais des heures dessus. Excellent cela me rappelle des bons souvenirs...
This intro changed the course of my life
The Yamaha PSS 470 has taken me here.
Really Came From David Murray! (The 8-Bit Guy)
He seems like a nice guy.. ^^
oh hell yeah me too
The MT-32 really adds something here over the adlib
i still prefer the adlib though the mt32 still sounds bettee
Got sent by The 8Bit Guy
Tell him hi ^^
Same here! Really catchy and amazing!
He's an angry eggman.
Me too. I had to see the rest of that razor commercial.
Same
This is giving me goosebumps!
I’ve only ever played the commodore version, and I’m disappointed I never got to play this game properly.
This song is so atmospheric.
Very epic game.... Milestone in gaming history.....looks a cool as in the 90's....good job guys👌👌👌👌
Nunca lo de jugado, pero viendo esto y que al 8-bit guy también le gusta, pues jajaja, ni modo, a jugar se ha dicho.
Yo voy pa esa, descargando el Ultima 6
Even though I never played ultima, Looks like i’m going to have to pirate something today….
This whole intro is my life, minus the lightning that opens a magic portal to another dimension.
Something about the Avatar back on Earth and just hanging out in his modern 1990 living room watching TV always cracked me up.
I was too young to have enjoyed this, but I had Gauntlet Legends on both N64 and PS1 I liked it so much....surprisingly the N64 version is best amd has the best music.
This game still captures my imagination in a crazy way
This always make me crying
same here 8-bit
If this continues, I should thank him personally ;)
Good memories
Classic.
That's a Dominos Pizza box.
Now I'm hungry.. :(
This feels if PilotRedSun made a game
I want to see the intro filmed in live action. Done in a cinematic style.
it's rather amazing to hear music and recreate it on guitar, bass or keyboard. That is if you know the chords.
that song was originally written on guitar and then programmed into the game
Why is the avatar so interested in that centaur pole dancer

1 dislike: the guardian ;-)
I would like to see this made with the sid chip lol
Why can't they make an ultima movie?? Start from 5 and go to 9
AdLib?
8bitguy and keys sent me here. :P
and that is how I met your mother
Duuuuude!
I don't believe in God, but I believe this is his single creation.
