I’ve been driving for 6 years, both as an Uber driver and as a cargo van driver (delivery driver). In my opinion, speeding on the highway is relatively safe. However, speeding in residential areas is not acceptable due to the presence of children. Most auto collisions, based on my observation, occur on roads with stop signs, during tailgating, on snowy, foggy, or rainy days, or at poorly designed and complicated intersections such as multiple-lane traffic circles (roundabouts). Catching speeders on a bright, sunny day seems to be a waste of time, in my opinion.

The only problem of speeders is most vehicles are not designed for fast speeding. The second, the people are trained for driving fast and the roads have to much traffic. With the right vehicle, training and traffic driving fast is not by it self dangerous. I am trained and lived in a place that driving over 150 is ok. Not in U.S.
I don't care how "great" and "reasonably safe" people say the Autobahn is... the simple fact of the matter is that, at a certain speed, the margin for error becomes miniscule... There is no need for a car to EVER go 150... at that speed, you can't even reasonably process what is up ahead of you.
The average person isn’t safe enough to drive 120+ on American roads but let’s remember these speed limits were imposed back when we had horrible braking systems and tires. I guarantee a bmw m3 can go from 150-0 mph faster than a 1995 Camry can go from 80-0 mph.

I guarantee you a BMW M3 that has more than 60,000 miles on it has worn out tires brake pads, wheel bearings that need repacking and a steering and suspension system in need of repair. No one maintains a car that they are abusing. Try buying a used M3 from a young male driver. Lower income people skimp on their car's maintenance. Sometimes I think people should be allowed to get a permit to speed. The permit should only be valid for cars that are new to a maximum age of 5 years and a maximum odemetor of 75,000. The permit should be valid for 1 year and cost $100 for every MPH above the speed limit allowed and the fine for speeding without a permit should be $1,000 for every MPH above the posted speed limit.

The most trouble I ever got into was when I owned a 117HP Honda Civic. It had very tall gearing and took forever to reach 100, but I liked going fast and couldn't afford anything with power, so I spent a lot of time accelerating and racked up a lot of tickets, leading to my license being suspended for 6 months. I've been ticket-free for 8 years and have had some faster vehicles since and the things I've done would make this news story seem like a joke, if we start talking numbers.
Have you considered going five or seven miles over just for your own safety? You could be a hazard if every single car is flying past you. Not to mention you may actually be going UNDER depending on your model of car as some makers set the speed maybe 2 miles per hour vs what you see on your dash.
Roads and traffic law are still living in 1956. Meanwhile, vehicle safety and technology easily allows for speeds at 80mph. With all the taxes collected by CT in 7 decades, you'd think perhaps they could modernize interstates to allow for higher speeds. But then again, that would put a dent in their revenue collection.
They did have a chance. Your gas tax is supposed to be for funding the highways. Years ago, in the 70s, the politicians decided to put the fuel tax proceeds into the general fund. They spent the money on other things other than roads and bridges. The interstates were still fairly new and didn't need much for maintenance and upgrades. Instead of collecting and investing for the future, the money has been spent, the fuel tax increased, the addition of the state income tax, and much more. What do you, as a CT taxpayer have to show for it? An antiquated highway system, funds piddled away, and more revenue generating schemes coming from your state government. I know, I was there in the 70's, 80's, and 90s. I heard the promises, saw the removal of the tolls on 95, have seen the perpetual construction. We left. I don't even like going back to visit. The traffic is insane. Who would have ever thought I-95 would be stop and go from NY to RI? Anyone with a little fore thought would have. Now there is so much traffic, safety regulations, and behind the 8 ball, CT will never be able to afford bringing the CT interstates to modern standards. Keep voting those politicians in that will spend your blind. I'm not accusing any political party, look at the individuals.
Lol your brain is tiny Yes the technology is better in the cars but the driver hasn't changed. There are very few people who can handle speeds of 100 miles an hour I know everyone thinks they can but most cannot.

They’re arrogant enough to not realize that at a highway merge point they need to get into the left lane so merging traffic can just slide right in. They don’t, they stay in the right lane and intentionally speed up to keep you from getting in front of them. At the same time they’re ignoring the car behind you who’s speeding up to merge as well. Sometimes to ensure a seamless accident free merge I’ve had to hit 100 or 110 mph cause they’re trying that hard to edge me out
Connecticut needs more police officers on the highways especially those “ Fast and Furious “ drivers. Take away their licenses and impound their vehicles for “ Reckless driving” . They also need to clamp down on those vehicles that have modified exhaust systems that make the vehicles sound louder. I am sure if you check the exhaust systems you will find the catalytic converters missing.
Speeding on I 95 is not a new trend. I've been on I95 between Groton and East Lyme for the past 11 years and speeding has been out of control for at least that long. Virtually no enforcement in that stretch of highway.
Most speed limits on US roads are stuck in the bygone era. Modernization of vehicles now allow for greater speeds at a safer cost than before. Technological advancements ranging from better breaking systems, better controlled acceleration, better arrow dynamics and overall better handling equate to being able to handle higher speeds more safely than older model cars.

The only way this all works is if the courts support what these brave men and women are doing out there! These folks get to court and there’s no CONSEQUENCES
Sometimes you have to get up to 90 mph just to merge in. See the car beside you is unintentionally speeding up to keep you from getting ahead of them, while the car behind you is speeding up to merge in themselves. Therefore my only option is to floor it and merge in. Once I’ve merged in I can adjust my speed, but until you do something about the aggressive drivers who move to cut off others you’ll never stop the speeding problem

It's not just technology in the cars making people want to go a little faster, it's highway design. Wide open spaces cause you to have less of a perception of speed. So 100 mph on the open freeway feels like 60 on a narrow tree lined two lane.
Modern cars are more than capable of doing 90+ safely. The problem is left lane campers and truckers with governors taking 20 miles to pass. It's all about money.

Cop is right. They make cars so smooth now that 100 feels like nothing. My first car an old Celica, 65 felt like you were going to die!
I had a Jeep Grand Cherokee 4XE as a rental and OMG.... I loved it! 4 cylinder turbo with electric motors to add to the total power! The acceleration was a blast! Also, it was incredibly quiet. 90 felt like 50, noise-wise!
@@RodofAllTrades I believe it! Cool rental!
Tailgaters are a HUGE problem. 👎
Thank you trooper Booker 🙌
Connecticut doesn't have a highway. A highway has a Connecticut.
The serving president has dementia and Parkinson’s but let’s worry about traveling 85 mph 🤷♂️
Selfish comment. Excessive speeding is a huge problem for 90% of those who don't speed.
Good one; you forgot to mention that he has the nuke codes!
My car is rated at 150mph. But it’s 20 years old. Never hitting that!!!
The average person isn’t safe enough to drive 120+ on American roads but let’s remember these speed limits were imposed back when we had horrible braking systems and tires. I guarantee a bmw m3 can go from 150-0 mph faster than a 1995 Camry can go from 80-0 mph.
I have driven cars capable of well over 100 mph built in the 60s 70s 80s 90s till today cars have always been capable of over 100 ,the person driving knows what they are doing they are looking right at the speedometer 😂😂😂its not the cars its the drives there's just more idiots on the road that don't value there lives or anyone else's.
Man when I’m there 90/95 feels like 20. And there’s no intent of speeding. I did slow down but it does happen often
@@Dabeer I use speed control everywhere I drive. When I exit the freeway I reset it to the posted speed on the street I'm on. I've been driving for 50 years and haven't had a speeding ticket yet.
DAMN, you’re STUPID!!!
That is why you use cruise control.
My dad had a Toyota that the cruise control wouldn't work at over 100 MPH. Bummed me out.
"Cars are getting faster?" 🤣 Uh, no. There has always been fast cars. Drivers are getting dumber.
Cars got a bit faster and they handle better in curves than our oldies. Funny thing is 25 or so years ago, I never saw old people tailgate and cut in front. Now, all the time.
Cars are, indeed, getting faster. When kids are able to get their hands on a $25k tesla that can do 0-90 in 5 seconds, yes, they getting faster brother
A Ford Explorer ST is as fast as a Lamborghini Countach from the 80s. A 2020 Toyota Camry V6 makes 300 horsepower, over 100 more than a 2000 Camry V6. Dodge released a Demon 170 Challenger that makes 1,025 horsepower and a 1.6 second 0-60. Cars have gotten faster and quite honestly you are living under a rock to think otherwise...
Thanks for the heads up!
I seen a ten mile road test. 1 car 90mph, 1 car 65mph. At the end of the test with traffic, etc the speeding car only got there 4 mins faster. Not worth the effort.
@@BigBenny24 actually it's 10x60x(1/65 - 1/90) = 2 min 33 sec, but every second counts when you're running from police.
@@alexanderthemeek a few red lights can take all the speed factor away.
@@BigBenny24where are you driving where you can go 65 let alone 90 and there are red lights on the road??
4 minutes can be the difference between being employed and homeless for some people.
@@BigBenny24 All the more reason to increase speed and run yellows. I've noticed traffic lights that are almost intentionally designed to stop drivers doing the speed limit.
It's one thing on an empty highway, and another during rush hour
It's not just Hellcats, it's all kind of vehicles including SUV's.
When I do like 90 in CT I never get pulled over unless you’re doing something real flat out dumb. But then I get pulled over in Massachusetts doing 50 in a 55 because there were guys on the side of the road not even a work zone.
basically it’s so gay
90-100 is just keeping up with traffic in Florida. Every time I go down there I automatically set my cruise control to 90
That's why Florida is a disaster State for driving.
Respect officer 👮 🙏🙏🙏
I like the first car they show being pulled over, a Honda Fit 115 HP. Speeding yes but could never be an extreme speeder.

If you speed, do not complain about gas prices.
I do the speed limit and 50 to 100 cars a day pass me breaking the speed limit. They are going to just have to take the whole state to court.

We're the car culture that puts FOURTEEN-year-olds behind the wheel of vehicles that can weigh more than two or three tons. We don't teach people how to drive in this country - we teach them how to pass a stupid exam and it's not the same thing.
@@kirk1618 The solution is to stop reelecting these corrupt politicians. It's called embezzlement and it's illegal everywhere. Your area still has elections, don't they?
@@Joegreen-r1iYou don’t understand his point, goofy. The cars can slow down way quicker. They’re way more safe in crashes. So 65 mph back then was like doing 100 in a car today.
The speed limit in my area of the south is 70. At 70 it is like I am standing still cars blowing past me easily 90-100.
In heavy traffic, it's just dumb to be speeding. You're only gonna go as fast as a rolling road block, until one of the cars barely creeps ahead of the rest, opening a window of opportunity. I was "an essential worker" during covid and the interstate was so awesome for a time!
I believe today's drivers show a lack of patience and arrogance when on the roads, compared to years ago.
Shut up Karen! How about you move over for passing vehicles in the left lane.
The cop was driving 107 mph?
A bike doing 124mph is called a donor cycle.
Leave on time and then you don’t have to drive like you have diarrhea.
Speeding on I 95 is not a new trend. I've been on I95 between Groton and East Lyme for the past 11 years and speeding has been out of control for at least that long. Virtually no enforcement in that stretch of highway.
I'm glad I can enjoy German highways where 110 mph is a common left lane speed
Its all about money. Keeps the automobile business healthy, law enforcement wealthy, and funeral homes prosperous.
The modern cars may be equipped for higher speeds, but our dilapidated roadways and overall infrastructure are not!
The politicians want to protect their SPEEDING TICKET BUSINESS!!!!!!
What about the people going 65 MPH in the most left lane (AKA: “The Passing Lane”)?
What about it? It's not illegal.
America should take notes from German autobahn
Widespread lack of lane discipline is a major issue. Faster cars passing on the right, slower cars camped out in the left lane.
Interesting every time I drive thru Connecticut from NJ. Ct drivers are doing speed limit in left passing lane and do not move over.
Usual suspects. Speeding is just another one of their crimes.
Raise the speed limit to 75
what about targeting the trucks i regularly witness going 75-90?
They should never be allowed to drive anything more powerful than a golf cart when they're caught, along with a lengthy prison term. If they were allowed to breed, their offspring should not be allowed to drive either.
Once I’ve merged in I can adjust my speed, but until you do something about the aggressive drivers who move to cut off others you’ll never stop the speeding problem
its going to be like NY at this point, the I91 is filled with many cars without plates. As Ive seen BMWs doing up to 140 with heavy traffic. Its not the cars, its the drivers.
Remember driving from hartford ct to jfk in 1hr 15 mins flying. This was more than 7 years ago thou
Did I miss the part of the report where they stated the speed limit of that highway?
parts of 91 in CT, speed limit is 50-55mph (usually around interchanges) . most of the stretch of 91 in CT the speed limit is 65
@@AJ-Hunt It is irresponsible / incompetent reporting, to do a story on speeders on a specific roadway, and not tell the audience the speed limit.
A story on speeders, and never stating the speed limit. That was a blunder that a competent news agency should not have made.
CT drivers suck!!!!!!!!
0:41 but the illegal license plate covers are ok? lol
Crack down for one week a year. The rest of the year it's a free for all.
I commute 5-6 days between 4-5am in the morning on major highways in NJ, NY, PA and CT. The troopers typically tolerate up to 80mph and even at that speed I have people blowing past me like I'm standing still. But I almost never see any troopers at that time in the mornings.
About time!!
it will always be funny to me how normal people think of 100 mph being some absurdly fast speed when ive sat on motorcycles that could hit 180.
It's not just technology in the cars making people want to go a little faster, it's highway design. Wide open spaces cause you to have less of a perception of speed. So 100 mph on the open freeway feels like 60 on a narrow tree lined two lane.
The blue car at 88 mph also has an illegal license plate cover to avoid tolls and license plate readers.
The most ironic part is the people who i see speeding the most often are the troopers themselves. We need some sort of law to get them to slow down
I blame it on the judicial system, slap on their hands , pay a lawyer a few hundred dollars and get it reduced to an equipment violation.
If I ever get stopped in the Connecticut, I hope it is Trooper Booker...
A TV station staffed with old folks...you only see that on traditional mainstream media...
It’s about time.
Modern cars are more than capable of doing 90+ safely. The problem is left lane campers and truckers with governors taking 20 miles to pass. It's all about money.
Ct state troopers are jokes
Drove on I-95 North thru New Haven this Saturday Nite and I almost died from several cars muscling me into the guard rail because they didn't want to wait for a pass and then to get over. I have never seen anything like those CT. drivers in my 40 years of driving. And not a single police car in sight.
It's about time there out there! It's been going on for better than 25 years, and it will keep going on. Not only speeding on the highway, local police need to do more to stop in towns across Connecticut.
84 around Waterbury is a race track crotch rockets too
Wait is 100 MPH considered extreme speeding?
So I guess now that if you own a good looking sporty style car you are to be stereotyped into going fast???😢
