The Finest Fire History

- Come along as we tour 250 years of firefighting history at the Reading Area Fire Museum. The tour was one of the most educational tours we have been on yet. The museum can be found in Berks County, Pennsylvania. The original firehouse was founded in 1771 as a working firehouse. One of the most impressive facts as they had nearly 10,000 members, making it a central gathering place for social events for the entire city of Reading. The architecture is astonishing. Much of the wooden furniture was handcrafted by John Wanamaker himself. You can see the different tools used over the years, the progression in apparatus designs, and pictures of the REAL people who were pivotal in paving the way for modern firefighting. Once you step into their recent renovations, you are immediately transported back in time. You can't help but feel that you are standing in places where greatness was established.

I live in Reading down on Franklin St. I'm extremely honored that you did something like this to show the people that aren't from my area my neck of the woods thank you for doing this. Also my father was a member for Readings abulance service back in his early days of firefighting his name was Jim Gerhart so ask about hime next time you visit Reading maybe some of the veteran firefighters will recognize the name

I worked in municipal and industrial fire departments back in the ‘80’s. The industrial department had the Gamewell system including the ticker tape. Very cool how it worked. Never broke down.
Thanks Mike! I didn't even know it was there. A nice road trip for a day.
Wow, this was AMAZING!! I love the history and loved the gentlemen who told you of the history.
Thank you!
Chief Rehr is a very knowledgeable historian and former fire chief for the City of Reading Fire and Rescue Services. I did a few shifts in that station before it was part of a department reduction.
Awesome, simply awesome what they gathered in this museum! :) Keep up this good work, and thanks for showing us this place too. :)
Thank you! Will do! our pleasure
And we're STILL adding more!

The building is an absolutely beautiful firehouse. Great equipment, but I am always partial to the fire alarm box systems.
Extraordinary!!
Great history lesson for all members of the fire service!

Wonderful tour! You should definitely visit the PA. National Fire Museum in Harrisburg, definitely a worth while visit!
You'll have to do a crib episode when the new Marion station is finished.
My station in Westmoreland county pa still has our 1923 Seagrave it used to drive back in 2017 but recently the engine cylinder heads have rotted out and we can’t get replacements so now just sits
Awesome place. Thanks for showing it off!
I was surprised they didn't have a Hahn fire truck there. Hahn Motors was in Hamburg Pa. about 30 minutes from Reading
Good question maybe if you stop by and take a look yourself you can ask
Great video awesome place, reminds me of the fire museum in Erie, pa
That guy is an O.G. firefighter right there and he absolutely thinks you're out of your league right now. That old man is smart and knows what he is saying.
I did not expect to see Bernville’s hand pumper here
Absolutely amazing
I hope you take a trip sometime to Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Memorial Park. That is where the Firefgighters Memorial is for The U>S> and Canada. Every year they have a service for the Lost firefighters of the last year, which includes a fire truck parade from stations across the country,
We did not know about it.
I remember how you decorate the firehouse at Christmas
