What about Rear engine Rear Wheel Drive? Has the driveline efficiency, cabin space, and weight-over wheels thing of FWD, has the good handling of RWD, and as long as you keep the weight distribution around 43-39% front, it isn't too crazy twitchy like mid-engine RWD, as long as you know how to take advantage of that mass of the engine and such being ALL the way out back. I know this is supposed to be a "High Level" explanation of each drivetrain but AWD can be rear biased as well as front biased. Not all AWD systems work the same. Rally AWD systems are better than generic "Just to say it has AWD" AWD systems and they all perform very differently. I know as a fact that Evo AWD can oversteer instead of understeer in a turn making the argument in this video about AWD having problems from both drivetrains combined moot. @@mikeb9569 actually, it might be able to do so based on how the Evo's AWD system works. The SAWC can slow down the front inside tire and speed up the rear and front outside tires causing a rotation that would not be typical of the CV joint range of motion on an Evo. Thus allowing greater turn in than it should be able to have. Nissan's ATTESSA AWD system is even better than that. So it's highly likely it can. Front-Wheel-Drive may be easier and cheaper to build, but they don't last as long under continued regular use over a long period of time. And yes, I now a few people dispute this claim. But please. How many vehicles are out there now that are of your particular vehicle? A Front-Wheel Drive vehicle in MOST cases will not last as long. And this is because they are built with a weakened structure in it's design. The Front of the car has too many parts in one place and has all of the vibration of all of the moving parts and the vibration of actual movement on just on part of the vehicle. The structural problem is from the fact that the drive wheels aren't on a solid frame like they are on a Rear-Wheel-Drive vehicle. And that leads to added wear over a shorter period of time.
FWD is not good for snow in terms of traction. Having a light car with winter tires is good in the snow, but FWD does not have more traction, it has less. When you accelerate all the weight goes to the back, so your front wheels break traction more easily. It just understeers when you break traction instead of oversteering. I'd rather have a lighter RWD car in the snow then a heavier FWD car. But 4WD/AWD is way better than both
Rear-Wheel-Drive=power from rear wheels. Front-Wheel-Drive=power from front wheels. All-Wheel-Drive=Front-Wheel-Drive+Rear-Wheel-Drive added with zero modification to the drivetrain configuration. Four by Four (4x4) is a Rear-Wheel-Drive vehicle modified so that the drive wheel also drive the front wheels. This is if I'm correct, what is so hard with jusst saying this?
You can also force a FWD to oversteer as well. It's a little harder to do, but not impossible. It won't ever DejaVu a corner per sey, but it's enough to correct in to a tight corner.
IMHO, mid-engine RWD is best because no torque steer is super-efficient and dank nooners. also, the sound and feel are like no other. not to mention doing Initial D reenactments. (I speak of drifting, for those who haven't watched Initial D)

Sorry but I have to correct that the fastest 1/4 & 1/2 mile non drag cars are both AWD. GTR and a Lambo have been battleing back and forth for a few years, you also showed a GTR and talked about RWD... hrmm. I was on a strip where a Demon and a Trackhawk, father and son, were racing for times and every run the Trackhawk ran a better time with much less HP. Fun Factor, I know with most AWD cars today they have a 50/50 split but just a slight change to 40/60 such as some older Audi's makes it much more fun.
AWD in snow is only better in take offs. It is a sports feature more than anything else. FWD with good snow tires actually handles better in the snow than AWD. It just doesn't do as well as AWD on take offs, but does not do as well in control and braking is about the same as FWD. If I didn't feel the need anything I get a flat tire I would have to replace all 4 tires and AWD didn't have so much more maintenance and if it fails it could cost several thousand dollars to fix? I'd look into it. Say, "No!" to AWD!
Gonna have to call you out on this, first up LMP1 cars are not fully AWD. They are more like 4WD because its mainly the rear wheels are powered unless they use the hybrid boost which powers the front wheels but only for a few seconds coming outta corners. Secondly, LMP1 cars are dead and now in the WEC we have the hypercar category. It pays to do research before putting info into a video

Nice
I’ll take No Wheel Drive, thank you. I’m not insane, just ahead of the curb.
Drifted the rx8 for the first time today
Please oversteer and understeer vid
Gonna have to call you out on this, first up LMP1 cars are not fully AWD. They are more like 4WD because its mainly the rear wheels are powered unless they use the hybrid boost which powers the front wheels but only for a few seconds coming outta corners. Secondly, LMP1 cars are dead and now in the WEC we have the hypercar category. It pays to do research before putting info into a video
LMP1 are dead but not because of their drivetrain.
@@crecio1827 Yes the LMP1 class is dead, but hybrid boost isn't
RWD and AWD for the win
I Love all of them
