I used to watch this when I was 9 with my parents and while it was very similar to the later versions, a few things were very different: Contestants did not make pacts, the pact system came later, no one had ever seen the format so they were unsure what to do. The contestants built a raft, and sailed out to other islands to explore, I loved this episode because it was very unique. I don't think production made them do it, it was just them testing their limits and seeing if they could do it. I don't think they had an auction, but they did make a shop where contestants could buy supplies, or treats, and it was not big meals. They had things like: a jar of ground coffee, a bag of rice, a piece of cake for sale. And it was a huge hit. The rights to air a US version was later sold which became Survivor. I haven't watched the show in years though, after a few seasons the show changed broadcaster and never felt the same. Swedish Television, who aired the first seasons has an old motto to both entertain but also educate, so for me the first season will always be special.

This was a great season (#2 Thailand). It’s a huge improvement over the first season. I hope they bring back the NZ series. There is no such thing as too much Survivor.

With the shared ones, they're never going to come and take food out your hands or scrape it off your fingers, so take a few mouthful sized pieces at first, then when he says 10 seconds left, just break off a big handful and take your time with it once the time runs out
