Swimming at Point Nemo

- In March 2024, I led an expedition to Point Nemo in the Southern Pacific ocean. This is the point furthest from land in any direction and is also known as the Oceanic Pole of Inaccessibility.
I marked the occasion by getting in the water exactly at Point Nemo and going for short swim.
The water temperature was 10 degress Celsius and waves were around 2.5m.

Would love to see a doco about the expedition. What an amazing thing. It must have felt eerie but special being out so far from land in any direction!
I will post a longer video when I get back
@@ChrisBrownExplores super!!!!😃😃

0:27 that bird to the right of the video sure is FAR away from land haha
"damn it i went the wrong way"
A dead giveaway that this is not point Nemo
Whats wrong with that bird, hahaha
@@Diddlemiggersthat doesn’t really prove anything. There are several species of birds at sea who can travel thousands of miles without landing once. I believe a species of albatross is an example of this. That bird being there does not disprove anything
Amazing! What an adventure! 1600 miles of ocean in every direction.
Thanks. It was one of my longer expeditions, that's for sure!
@@ChrisBrownExplores The cornflower blue water was gorgeous! Was it scary swimming in that endless blue?
@@daejeon0607 Not really. And the blue was truly staggering; I'd expected it to be much darker, verging on black. The most scary thing was Mr or Mrs Albatross who decided we were in their domain and that we looked like a tasty morsel.
@@ChrisBrownExploresI bet the bird was hungry out there, so far from land.
@@daejeon0607 good question!!
Introvert’s dream haven, Extroverts’s nightmare scape
Finally I see what's point Nemo looks like 🙂😮
Dang, I never expecting someone to actually go to point memo
Idk i don't find it that crazy at all considering the crazy things humans have done but still very cool for me to see even tho the view would be the same as any other big body of water. I believe the feeling of being there is very special of course, being surrounded 2000+km of deep ocean
That's weirdly rather peaceful than how people interpret it as such
Fr, i thought that Point Nemo was deep as f and there were a lot of unknown animals.
It looks terrifying to me, it looks like ocean surrounded by white eerie fogs.
@@harrien0007 fair enough, that does sound scary
No different than any other area of ocean except the distance, and it's 13000ft/4km deep so yes it's deep.
I didn't even expect point nemo to be legal to visit
How come lol
Legal?? Who tf gonna take legal action if you go there lol
@@LucasSimms fr
Its not like there is border police there
@@LucasSimmsMarlin & Dory probs lol

So long as it would be far enough away, that would be amazing to witness.

Dang bro I never expected someone just to travel that bar from land you're like so close to space. That's what my sister said agnese

Watch out for the bloop 😂
Haha. Do you know what that turned out to be? It is the sound of ice cleaving from the ice shelf in Antarctica
Love from Bengaluru ❤
Still camera man never dies❤
Uhm.. i think you're playing with death...-
Really that was a great job ! Excellent ❤
Awesome
First person swimming in point Nemo
Imagine the bloop was going to point Nemo and ate them😣
I believe the bloop was shown to be the underwater sound of icebergs breaking off the antarctic ice shelf.

Mengapa ada burung terbang jika jauh dari daratan?
There’s a bird flying there ! How the heck a bird comes Here 😳
Imagine them swimming and out of nowhere you see ISS in pieces falling from space.
Simply insane!
Haha. We checked. ISS isn't due to come down at nemo until 2031.
@@ChrisBrownExplores hahaha so you're safe until this year to swim there!
@@ChrisBrownExplores can you please record the sky which looks from point nemo?
What’s a freaking seagull doing in point Nemo
it's an Albatross; but exactly!!
Alien
Do you have more footage of this expedition?
Yes. It will be put up later - we are still sailing!

Say hello , to space agency😊❤
Nice
Oceanic white tip has entered the chat
The Albatross actually had a go at attacking us - he or she wasn't happy with us being there at all! It's huge as well
i wouldnt even dare to see the red flag/buoy thing
they should make a sci fi movie or mythical creature movie called PointNemo😮
They did it's called godzilla
Why is there a sea eagle at such a place like that tf did it come from
Its a alien😂
is this real??
Yes. You can see the full thing here: th-cam.com/video/9I_pgS6-suc/w-d-xo.html
what is the temperature of the water ?
It was around 10 degrees celcius when we were there. I understand that 7 degrees is more 'normal'
There is a bird over there. How is it possible?
A Southern Royal Albatross can fly at 120kph and have been known to travel 1800km in 24hours. They rarely have to land and stay on the wing for hours at a go. Chris Robertson, an expert at wildpress.org, tells me they primarily breed on Campbell Island near New Zealand.
Did you guys make it back yet?
We finally arrived into Papeete on 31st March. Thank you.
👌👌
And why there's a sheep in the back
Yall know point Nemo is the farthest point from land

Wow😮. I really want to know more about your swim at point nemo.
I have many questions.. I'm an open water swimmer.. Congratulations from México 🎉😊
Well, why not try me with your first question?
@@ChrisBrownExplores Hello Mr. Brown, ok... what was your motivation for swimming in that place? Were you afraid? Could you see something on the bottom while swimming? Would you repeat the experience? Thanks for responding Mr. Brown. Greetings from Guadalajara Mexico😃😊
@@MarSGarnier The sea at POint Nemo is about 4 km deep, so, no, you can't see anything on the bottom. I had expected the water to be dark, almost black, but it was a beautiful almost-iridescent blue. There's not time to be afraid when you are on an expedition, it is all about concentrating on the process.
@@ChrisBrownExplores I was aware that the color of the sea there was transparent, for that reason I asked you that😉 So you swam from a certain place to Point Nemo or from Point Nemo to some place? Do you have a longer video about your experience? 😃
I bet it was fun.
I say more 'interesting' than fun. The albatross and impending hurricane were concerns at the time.
El albatros no se quedó atrás jeje
Probablemente mucho antes que nosotros en realidad
What about the bird😂😂😂😂😂
Please see the longer video at th-cam.com/video/9I_pgS6-suc/w-d-xo.html for explanation
What the bird doing here
It is an Albatross, and it actually attacked us!
Greetings from Kerala Vazhoor ❤
Where’s the red flag?
On the beach, 2,700km away 😉
There should be no bird at point Nemo.
How that bird in background got there
They live mostly 'on the wing' just gliding and soaring, hardly flapping their wings, so expending little energy. A single flap can see them soar for several miles. They eat squid, fish, and krill - and have a particular taste for passing human swimmers.
@@ChrisBrownExploresis this bird really a danger to humans? Except when you're in 4km deep ocean
Chat we got chris brown going to point nemo
☠
Honestly this was pointless because they sailed to the spot on a boat, jumped out of the boat, swam for a few minutes then jumped back. I don't see how it should be regarded as a world record.
Plot twist: they never made another video
Haha. Yeh we did. See the link in the comment below ;-)
