Nature's Neighbor - Lluvia

Man, this track really takes me back to my senior year of high school. The beginning of my high school career was for me, as it is for many, extremely uncomfortable and awkward. I went from being a confident 8th grader to being a tiny little shrimp of a Freshman in a big school that didn't seem to notice me at all. But the one thing I could do to get people to turn their heads and look at me was sing. So I joined the school choir and the musical theater department. Looking back, I was very lucky to attend a school with such a strong, well funded music department with great teachers that were passionate about helping students like me find their way.
I gained a lot of confidence during my first two and a half years at high school by singing and performing in theater productions. I was even in a few horrible rock bands. And even though I had been playing guitar since age 13, I never thought of writing my own songs until sometime around 2007, when my best friend Beau sat me down in his backyard and played me a song. "I wrote this one." he said. And that totally blew my mind. "Shit.. I should try to write songs too!" I thought. And that was it. And that's how I truly found my identity. And I've been doing it ever since then.
I bring up Beau because he was the Lennon to my McCartney back in those high school days. Junior and Senior year were spent writing songs in between choir and musical theater rehearsals. Beau and I would pass lyrics we'd written to each other in the hallways in between periods. I remember that this song, which I had written about a year into my songwriting pursuit, was Beau's favorite from that time. So Beau, this one's for you. Thanks for helping me find my path. Love you brother.
