My late husband, Jim Boyle, and I owned an art gallery, frame shop and studio in a little town in the Upstate of South Carolina. Jim was a lifelong artist and spent 25 years in our little shop. I helped out but I had a full time job as a journalist in a small daily newspaper. Those were the best years of our lives together, so when you retire, go find a quaint little store and fill it with your work. Cheers!
"It's my shop and I can sell what I like" -- that gave me a good chuckle. That's awesome you have photos of your great-great-grandfather's shop. Great challenge Margo.
❤️❤️❤️🙌🏻🙌🏻❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️I wish I could like this video a 100x it’s just sooo lovely! The music! I’m still humming the song. I loved the rambling and explanation of slang.
Just wonderful to watch. Fun, light-hearted chat gives me the confidence to try. Your perfectionism doesn’t translate to exclusivity; in other words, give it a go, or in American colloquial English, give it the old college try.
Paul, how awesome. Birds are some of my favorites to paint. Can't tell you how much I look forward to Wednesdays and your lesson. You're my favorite artist. Thanks, Sherry.
Paul, thank you for this charming , enjoyable, and instructive video and starter drawing! I finally came up with a still-to-be-named bookshop, and I'm going to give it a go. I so appreciated seeing the efforts of others and I am grateful for the opportunity to put my own stamp on a semi-original of my own.
As always, Paul, simply floored by this demo. How nimble your fingers are, how easily a white flat paper turns into a beautiful , breathing shop front. Cannot thank you enough. Good day.
Another wee masterpiece. I especially like the shadows under the wreathes, looks so organic. The "things" in the windows look like enormous insects in distress. I can see bug eyes on the one on the left. Giggle.
Hi Paul, Approaching retirement, I thought I'd take up a new hobby. In lockdown I decided upon watercolour painting, and stumbled (whilst internet searching) across your website/tutorials. What a stroke of luck - I just love your 'Watercolour Wednesdays', and am slowly getting better at copying your pictures. Maybe in time I'll be able to move away from copying, and create a style of my own. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for your generosity in posting these tutorials, and for making them so easy to follow. By far the best online tutor I've been able to uncover. Cheers!
Thank you so much!! I just love this lesson. This is what I would like to learn how to paint. Thank you from the Middle Colony of Chicago in the USA... don't forget to have a pint with your bubble and squeak!!!
Once again you continue to amaze me with the generosity of your time, your glowing talent, and love of location and history. I watch your videos with my morning coffee. You make me ready for whatever comes. Thank you.
Guess I just had the purest and most peaceful 20 minutes I've had in a while! Thank you so much for this lesson, sooo many things about this video made me so happy!! I'm looking forward to try this one soon
This was by far the most heartfelt and closely knitted episode I've seen on the channel, specifically from how Paul, you took us through the entire drawing, to your family's historical roots, accent variation, music scores and leaving room for others to participate in terms of colors and ending with a perfect streak of creative followers' work. Amazing job mate. Would like to see this interactive method more. :)
This cheerful little picture reminds me of a British TV-series about a lady and her post office. And indeed no language lends itself better to never-ending creativity than English😊 Greetings and many thanks from a Swede.
I love the extra bits of knowledge we get from your comments throughout the videos. Now I know some cockney slang! It was also neat seeing the old photos from your ancestry. You're lucky to have those! Thanks for another wonderful tutorial.
Thanks for educational and highly amusing video. I shall go for a walk, take a pic of a shop front, paint it and call it my own. A challenging day ahead, first time for something like this, as so detailed.😎
"Paul and Margot's Funny Clothes" Bahahahaha. Good one. So lovely, so many people making adorable art. I want to be Joyce Barnaby and go on one of your painting retreats.
It gives me so much buried treasure to watch you paint and tenon saw. As you can tell I am not a cockney. Thank you for a very enjoyable tutorial. Andy
This is a very helpful class Paul. I love line and wash. Your Cockney lessons are hilarious. You are so fun and you make me laugh. Not many people can do that. I’m looking forward to next week’s lesson. Thank you Paul.
Another beautiful painting. Just love watching you paint. Not only is it educational, it is also very peaceful and calming. These should be recommended for people who suffer from anxiety.
Hello Paul! Your creative painting is beautiful! Thanks for sharing your masterful techniques, interesting stories, and “waffling.” Thanks for sharing additional paintings at the end of the video. I very much appreciate the smiles!
OMG.....what a beautiful painting. This reminded me of being in Falmouth Cornwall. There were all those nice small shops in one street. Also, a touch of Montmartre in Paris, thank you so much for your videos. And those other paintings from your watchers are stunning.
Paul, I can’t tell you how much I just adore this lesson. It makes me so happy, I’ll be trying it this weekend as a Christmas gift for my mom, but hers will be teddy bears! Thank you for sharing! By the way, you’re my favorite artist on TH-cam. 😁
I think this is my all time favorite, this is so cute and cozy. My Great Grandmother and Grandmother were a Clark's from England. They showed me a lot of old pics some on copper plates that were hard to see but I loved the old shop pics. and ships. Thank you so much for this wonderful painting.
Oh my Goodness. This is beautiful. I have just taken up art again after a gap of 45 yrs or more and I love doing buildings and doors. This was a real treat and I'm sure I'll watch over and over again. Thank you for yours fantastic informative video's.
Paul, if you’re hiring, I’ve over 30 years of retail experience LOL I absolutely LOVED this!!! And it was really lovely to see the photos of your Great-Great-Grandfather’s shop from back in the day, also hearing about the provenance of your accent and the Cockney rhyming slang. You never cease to surprise and delight us, dear Paul. Clarkies’ storefront turned out, well, stunning. That brick wall…WOW! I’m definitely giving Didi’s Bits & Bobs a try 😁 Thank you once more for a wonderful video! 👏❤️
Hi Paul, this is my absolute favourite painting so far. I really love the detailing right down to the worn step where all the customers have crossed the threshold. A really beautiful piece. Thanks for sharing. Lou xx
I see me taking many snaps of quirky shop fronts in my future. Your demos are golden, Paul. Chaz n Dave would be proud of your rabbit, as was I. I'm inspired to experiment with masking fluid and overcome my fear of it after watching this, too. Fab as always 👍
Hi Paul dear!I haven't had time to watch your next video yet, but I know and am sure that it is as always on top.You know I don't miss any of your lessons.👍❤️🎨🚩😍🤭
Really enjoyed watching this Paul. Lots of detail and expertly executed. I do enjoy watching you paint and I have learnt so much. My art has improved thanks to you. You give us so much time and expert advice which is much appreciated. Thank you so much.
This was so delightful to watch; amazing use of your tips.. I liked how the effect of using water on the interior after first coat of paint! AND you really got the juices flowing as we saw the nice paintings of the Facebook group! Thanks again for this inspiring tutorial! 🎈
Thanks Paul, I loved this tutorial and the viewers efforts shown at the end. Everyone is so creative and can’t wait to create something similar. Can’t wait for the next one. Cheers from Victoria 🙋♀️
Well, I really enjoy all your rabbit and pork! This was so interesting! I am a fanatic about accents as well. I sang in Vienna for about a year, and my Hansel had a precious accent which we finally called "southern-country-Viennese"! I slowed down this video and it still looked so easy; I realize it is not easy. I try to adopt your relaxed style, but I still feel a bit paralyzed when I begin. Thank you for this FABULOUS, FUN lesson. I do encourage all to use the tip jar!
I really love this. It looks doable I was interested in the brickwork techniques, shading and the lighting effects. This is so versatile. I think I am going to to a London Ironmongers in Herne Hill, it has lots of stuff, facemasks hanging up, and a plastic Santa in front. It was really fun and useful to see other subscribers' work and have new ideas too. I like seeing other people's work on every video.
So charming! I loved this painting and what a great idea to have everyone customize it! Also loved the old photos of your Great Grandfather's shops. The Cockey slang was fun as well - the only time I've heard it was in an old Cary Grant film. You have the best channel by far! Thanks so much for all these amazing tutorials.
My great-grandfather had a grocer's shop in Lancashire in the 1800s, but unfortunately I don't have a picture. This painting was so inspiring. Absolutely loved it.
Paul, it is such a treat to wake up Wednesday mornings and find a new magical tutorial from you. I so appreciate your inspiring videos! Thanks so much! ❤️
First time watching this after I just watched todays (a year later). This one seems easier so gonna try this first. Love them both so much. And as usual you’re hysterical. I’m a Brit living in Canada and people are often fascinated by my London accent. And some of the things I say. Even now after being here almost 27 years. The other day I said washing up liquid and was told it’s dish soap. Anyhow some years ago I put together a dictionary of cockney slang for a client I’ll see if I can find it for you.
I am totally mesmerised by your beautiful artwork. Thank you so much Paul, I learn so much by each one of your tutorials. I love your style, and you have inspired me to improve my efforts! Love the music accompaniment. Makes me happy and determined to improve bit by bit.
Art & Fruit 😂😂😂... You always make me laugh... I'm going to paint my husband's first place of employment in NYC, that he dreams about all the time, for his birthday!!! Great tutorial!
Hey Paul, i just recently discovered your channel through Jenna Rainey. What a blessing you are for learning Watercolor. Thank you so much for teaching. You have got a sub for life. 🙏🏽💕
WOW….As I mentioned before, I love waking up and watching your video on Wednesday morning. This morning was no exception! The beautiful colors, your ink work, etc., is marvelous! I wish you and your wife a joyous Holiday Season. 🥂🎄
Hi Paul, Great idea getting us all to use our grey matter by coming up with our own versions of your Victorian store and choosing our own colours. We all needed a nudge, I know I did. I had a lot of funny creating my own Christmas store selling cards and candies. Your watercolour Wednesday's are so therapeutic and brighten up my week. Thank You !
I was intimidated by this challenge and never completed my painting. After watching this, I’m ready to try again! Thanks so much. And what a happy song you had playing. Perfect! 💛
Hi Paul, this is my absolute favourite painting so far. I really love the detailing right down to the worn step where all the customers have crossed the threshold. A really beautiful piece. Thanks for sharing. Lou xx ps my husband is a Man of Kent, Canterbury, so knows Ashford really well.

Probably my favourite line and wash Paul, so individually quirky, yet real, you can almost sense yourself walking up to the shop front, adorable.....
You always entertain as well as inspire me! Thanks!
"It's my shop and I can sell what I like" -- that gave me a good chuckle. That's awesome you have photos of your great-great-grandfather's shop. Great challenge Margo.

Thanks Rita - so pleased you enjoyed it!
Lovely painting, when I think it's finished and perfect, a new detail is added. I am an oil painting artist and I don't dare with watercolor.
No words to describe this . So I m 😶 speechless as I am only watching it twice thrice many times ❤️❤️❤️
Paul, how awesome. Birds are some of my favorites to paint. Can't tell you how much I look forward to Wednesdays and your lesson. You're my favorite artist. Thanks, Sherry.

You are the best Paul. I learn every week, infact evey Wednesday's I eagerly wait for ur TH-cam post.
