They were created by Tomotaki Takahashi who owns Robot Garage and its really surprising that Toyota gives no credit to him what so ever. I almost want to create a manga called Robot Island which deals with the topic of population decline in Japan. The story would take place a thousand years into the future where the Japanese people have gone extinct. The island and it's abandoned cities are populated by semi sentient robots. The most advanced and human-looking robot is a female Android, 18 years old in appearance, called Naoko-chan. Naoko was designed to be a wife, but all of the human men are gone, and she lives by herself in an derelict house in the abandoned city of Tokyo. Here she cleans the house and cooks for a family that doesn't exist. One day whilst pretending to go grocery shopping, Naoko stumbles upon in abandoned Hospital where she enters and finds a shortage room full of old USB drives. On these drives are digital video recordings of actual Japanese people living there lives. With each video she watches, the Japanese population declines and grows old as the years go by. The final video titled "The Last Japanese Person", depicts an elderly woman in her early hundreds lying on her deathbed surrounded by robotic nurses. In her last dying breath she cries out, "I'm all alone! I'm all alone! I don't want to die alone!" Naoko's positronic brain finally processes the sad information and she comes to a horrifying realization. Like the dying elderly lady in the video, Naoko is entirely alone with no one to love or be loved by except mindless robots. Naoko suffers a nervous break down, screaming, " Nooo!! I'm all alone! I don't want to be alone!!" This causes her to short circuit and she falls to the ground lifeless with one teardrop of cleansing fluid dripping down her face.
This is awesome and I would find it entertaining. What worries me is that people would use this in place of actual interaction with people. If it can be used as a tool though to help those with social anxieties or genuinely mentally ill (with said social phobias/aversions) people then I could see said benefits.
It's not all that deep. It's just an advanced furby that's prolly connected to a Japanese Amazon Cloud computer or Siri-like service. It's a novely and maybe will have a market with little kids like the Furby for a little while if it's lucky and cheap.
There's nothing wrong with that. Some people are just very anti-social, or very socially awkward to talk or interact with other people. So... a robot that can interact with you socially seems like a pretty good alternative and build up social skills. Imagine what people with autism can do with such interactive machines?
honestly I want one to have a conversation partner, it's nerve racking to talk to a japanese person in japanese since I suck at it, but with a robot, who gives a shit.
And another data collecting machine... So, take it with you all the time and do all your "private relaxing" in front of his "eyes". Because you have nothing to hide, right?

its like tony stark's JARVIS or apple's Siri. when kirobo's feature now takes calls, reminders, send text msgs or voice msgs features of an android phone with voice and virtual outputs im definitely buying one. for now its Jarvis App for me. :(

This robot? No real personality, terrible aesthetic design, and the voice is just too robotic (compare with say Hatsune Miku or Siri). I could see this selling well in Japan if they modeled the robots after anime characters an got the voice actors to record some of the dialogue.
