I've been on somewhat of a mission over the last year with tyres, first chasing grip then having a lightbulb moment. Bike is a Whyte T-130 and most of what I ride could be called Downcountry I guess, just group rides but it's lots of riding trails to get to some descents. There's the odd bit of bikepark and some rowdy but that's about it. I've found that a bike has a happy speed, one where the ability to take the bumps and agility meet and it switches on. I thought I had a poor grip issue ( more of a skills issue but that's not what marketing likes you to think ) so I need grippier and grippier tyres, these come at a cost, weight. Now forget rolling resistance for a sec, what that gripper tyre is doing is numming the bike down, absorbing things but also it's just pain heavier, the suspension is moving slower, change of direction or speed is slower. You've reduced your bikes happy speed window. It's now harder to get into in the first place, maintaining it is harder and easier to drop out of it. The bike feels unresponsive, unwilling and slow and the result kinda makes you feel like you need more grip, so you put on a heavier tyre. I started on a DHF/DHR coz that's just what you run right? and ended up on Assagei F&R and found it even worse. My first realisation was getting a Dissector on the front with the Aggressor I run in summer out back, it immediately felt at home on my trail bike in the drying spring tracks which were near hero dirt but still too claggy for the Aggressor. ( I had actually brought it to match with a DHR II on the front for really wet conditions, which it did very well! ) It felt like what I expected the Assegai to be, it's a trail Assegai! and this was only the DC version. I felt a better rear was out there over the Aggressor for the conditions and ended up getting a DC Rekon. On damp dirt that clogs an Aggressor to dry compacted woodland trail soil this tyre with it's little nipper blocks was brilliant, a trail DHR II I've now got a 3c exo Terra Dissector up front and the DC Rekon out back. The weather recently has been super dry and Rekon on really loose deep dirt or stones esp when steep is at it's limit which would make me refit the Aggressor for these rides. It's a fast flowly blue trail tyre not a red tech descent sort of thing. Having said that, I did immediately beat my best time on a tech descent when it was perfectly damp. As it's been raining the last few days and will this weekend I'll put the Dissector DC outback. For a trail bike my conclusion is this. Winter slop: DHR II / Dissector General wet weather or deep soils: Dissector / Dissector Spring/autumn dampness to dry, well packed soils and dirt, flowing trails: Dissector / Rekon Summer, hard rocky ground to everything else, tech: Dissector / Aggressor or Dissector ( I'd rather wear the Aggressor on this tho ) Enduro/rowdy: It's a trail bike, accept your mates who have years of experience on you and enduro bikes will drop you.
Currently running a DHF 2.3 in the front and Rekon Race 2.25 in the back on my 120 mm trail bike. AMAZING on the uphills, kinda slippery on the downhills. I ride with a group of XC guys and honestly I think the Dissector front, Rekon combo which I’m about to try will be safer. Aggressor in the back was just too heavy to climb these mountains and keep up with my xc buddies.
I just ordered two Rekons 2.6 and 2.4 (both Exo+) for the front and rear of my hardtail. I currently run DHF and DHR II but for the type of riding I do (technical trail, not so much downhill), the Minions are a bit of a drag.
Yah man I'm just not a huge fan of the rekon. Just feels like a lack luster tire to me. That aggressor is one of my favorite tires ever. Fast and hooks up so good
Just moved over to this setup myself, stock on my bike was DHR/DHF then went Schwalbe Nobby Nic on the rear which I really liked and found to be a bit more playful feeling with noticeable more rolling speed. Now swapped an aggressor on the rear and traction is way improved on braking performance and is more planted laterally so a bit less playful. The dissector seems like hardly any downsides to the DHF though so totally agree, maybe a bit less longevity which is expected.

I agree with the aggressor over the Rekon for the rear. I tested them back to back, same day, same trail and felt like the aggressor rolled nearly as well but cornered and braked much better. Rekon feels vague cornering and doesn't inspire confidence. my climb times were nearly identical. I'm gonna try on my Evil FMB dissector/aggressor but would to hear how you would compare the aggressor to the dissector as a rear tire
I could not agree more, thats exactly how I felt on the rekon. It was good but felt vague and didn't give me confidence to push harder downhill like the aggressor. I have ran the dissector as a rear tire last spring. And I talked about it in a previous video. It has a weird characteristic as a rear tire. Kinda feels like it doesn't want to lean into corners like the aggressor. Almost feels like it fights what the front end is doing. But maybe I need to give it another try on my Following. Sometimes my first impressions can be off depending on the bike and conditions that day, or didnt have the PSI correct
I'm looking to change from dual DHR to something else next season. Trails can be pretty loose and dusty here in CA, the Aggressor says its for dry/rock but does it also work well in looser conditions. I see a lot of bikes even in the 150mm travel range now coming with a Dissector/Rekon combo. I think the DHRs are great if going to a bike park or if its moist but personally thinking its overkill for almost anything else. Looking to make my life easier with a better rolling tire but still have some fun going down.
Dhr2 is pretty money up front. Front tire doesn't make a huge difference in terms of pedaling uphill from a trail/enduro bike stand point. But try a 2.3 aggressor out bike. It's my go to here in the dry dusty loose
@@dustinbjohnson Ok thanks, before I was considering moving my front dhr to the rear and getting a dhf or may e the dissector to save some money, but the inner edges of the side knobs are pretty toast on that tire so idk if it makes sense to keep it.
I’m happy with Dissector/Rekon after 500miles but def don’t bomb down hill fast. Also noticed Rekon wears out faster than Ardent. Maybe if I learn to ride harder will get Aggressor rear.
Curious about how the Dissector and Rekons measure up? 2.4 vs 2.4, measured width vs sidewall height? I was considering the Rekon 2.4 rear and Dissector 2.6 front, unless the Dissector 2.4 inflates slightly larger? Thanks Dustin for the great videos!
I'm currently running Assegai F and Aggressor 2.5 R and absolutely love it! I was considering of swapping to the DHR in front, but in the Maxx Grip compound to gain more traction. Have you ever used the Maxx Grip compound?
Dissector rear and DHR II front maybe? Not sure what to think about the Dissector in the front. It has even larger gaps between the center and side knobs than the minions and only comes in 2.4". Not having any experience, but looking at the profile and at what people say about this "gap" during corners before the side knobs bite again it seems a maybe a little lacking in predictability (something where the Assegai shines, if we ignore how sluggish it is).
I'm not a big fan of the dissector as a rear tire. Feels like it fights against me when going into corners. But I agree the drift zone is very similar to the DHF as a front tire. I can deal with the drift zone on the dissector over the DHF because its alot lighter and faster. That being said. Ill probably end up back on the assegai if I don't like the new magic mary I'm testing .
Hi mate, have you run dissector front and back? Is it sluggish on climbing ? I want a long distance trail setup , I am not crazy with technical riding, pretty mellow, I feel Rekon is at times not grippy enough. I am worried about weight and rolling resistance, but perhaps should not worry about it, what are your thoughts, I mainly ride forest tracks
You have to check out the new conti tires! I have completely given up on maxxis after putting some serious miles on the new contis. They are absolutely superior 🍻 I have been riding with a buddy who’s on dissector rekon combo. And the contis are are so much faster, easier to pedal and tons of traction 👌
Enjoying your tire reviews. I’m running 2.6 Dissector front and 2.5 Aggressor rear on my HT and like you want that unicorn set up, so trying a 2.4 Ardent rear. I haven’t tried a 2.4 Dissector, but the 2.6 rolls so fast and doesn’t give up much to a Minion but is less traction than an Assegai. Bike is Pipedream Moxie.
Thanks man! I have couple more tires on the way to try. Going to start doing more weights and measurements in my reviews. I need more time on a 2.6 I tend to stay away from that wide cause I've noticed the tire is more prone to rolling in corners. But I think thats a good call on the ardent out back! I actually think it would be better then the rekon
I have Dissector 29x2.4 front/Ardent 29x2.4 rear, but I am really concerned since the Ardent is significant wider than the Dissector...should I try Dissector 2.6 up front rather than 2.4? This would slow me down a lot? Any advice?
@@marcomedri6544 yah man personally that would bother me having a wider rear tire. I'm not a big fan of 2.6 tires. Not going to feel as fast or snappy as your 2.4. I'd try a 2.25 ardent or try that rekon 2.4... or maybe that forkaster 2.35

Just got a Rekon 2.4 today from Amazon... will try it instead of Ardent as I don’t like 2.6 as well. I really hope Rekon to be a little narrower than the Ardent... Have you compared Rekon and Dissector maybe? They are the same size? Thanks man.
Dustin, I'm curious: on Maxxis site they claim that Dissector is 3.5 on rolling speed vs Rekon 3 but, Dissector about 100 grams heavier. When we shop for a fast tire are we better choosing the lightest one or the one with higher rolling speed (as per Maxxis site?) for the least rolling resistance? Thanks!
Excellent question! I will do a vid about that. Long story short. In my opinion, when climbing steep climbs weight is the biggest factor. When talking about rolling at speed and rolling resistance, I think tread pattern and compound is more important..
Thanks for sharing ! So going from dissector/dissector to rekon/dissector wouldn't make much of a difference rolling wise ? I was thinking about it to save a little weight and have a better rolling combo.
The more I ride the most I don’t thinks it’s hugely noticeable between Rekon and dissector. Dissector front and rear is killer combo. Just depends if you want a slight edge on the ups or the downs

I mostly ride for the downs but I'm not against a lighter setup to keep up with my fast climbing buddies :) Also I don't know if it mostly comes from the front or rear tyre but i find that the dissector combo keeps the line so well. As I'm working on my rear wheel skills, I wonder if a less directional/more playfull back tyre would benefit me.
@@sepultubob you really just have to mess around with different combos to see what works for you. For me I’ve found that I like a grippy beefy front tire with a less aggressive rear tire. Combos like DHF/aggressor or dhr2/ dissector have been my go too maxxis setups lately. Check out my latest video on the new continental enduro tires! I have been running them lately. Really liking them. They are so much faster rolling them maxxis and similar grip

Did you ever try the 2.6? I find it more secure as the tread is spaced out a little more. On my FS I'm going for MaxxTerra front and MaxxSpeed rear to replace my 2.4 Nobby Nics... Saves me around 220g for wider tyres, which is insane.
I guess it depends on your conditions to. It sounds like you actually have mountains where you live. Here in South Florida I'm Pretty sure The Rekon will be pretty good in the back for our constant short ups and downs.
Hi Dustin what do you think of rekon front rekon back with Cush. Bring able to run lower psi might help. Have you tried this setup.? How would you feel? Secure?
Personally I’d rather just run the 2.3 aggressor. Rekon is kind of an underwhelming tire for me. Decently fast. And okay traction. Or you could go something like a rock razor. I much prefer that to the Rekon. It’s fast like an ikon and corners like an aggressor
@@Micarmn I personally would not. Dhr2 is a more aggressive tire. I’d go 2.4 dhr2 front 2.4 dissector rear. Or 2.4 dissector front and 2.3 aggressor rear
Hey bud, coming from southern Canada (Toronto, Ontario) here eh! Anyway I'm thinking about getting dissector up front and rekon in the rear. It seems like everyone is all about crazy grip these days but don't realize that an assegai and Dhr2 are downhill/enduro tires. I know that combo will grip like hell, but is crazy heavy and rolling sucks. I'm more about a good balance of rolling resistance to grip ratio. Which is why I'm thinking to get the Dissector/rekon combo. Or possibly Rekon/rekon combo. What are your thoughts on the 2. I'm more of a guy who enjoys flowing trails and technical climbs. As for the tire widths I wanted 2.6 dissector front and 2.4 rekon rear. But the place where I order my tires currently have the dissector 2.4 width in stock. Is 2.4 dissector good enough up front or do you think 2.6 rekon front be better with the 2.4 rekon in the rear? Cheers from Canada
Dissector 2.4 / rekon 2.4 is killer! I'm not a fan of 2.6 tires. Too big and balloony... And the feel dead and slow. 2.4 dissector is killer for down country bikes

Oh almost forget my internal rim width is 35mm. Do you think that would change the tire profile significantly as a 2.4 tire...or like I said before is a 2.6 better for a 35mm rim. I'm riding in Southern Ontario (around Barrie) and have settled on these exact tires, dissector 2.4" up front and recon 2.4" out back. I've tried all kinds of different combinations the last few years and settled on this combo for maximum rolling speed for the local terrain (winch then drop) with just enough grip to always stay in control. Here's some Maxxis combos I've tried starting from most grip to least grip: - DHF 2.5"/DHR II 2.4" - DHR II 2.4"/Aggressor 2.3" - Dissector 2.4"/Aggressor 2.3" - Dissector 2.4"/Rekon 2.4" - Forekaster 2.35"/Forekaster 2.35" - Forekaster 2.35"/Ardent Race 2.35" - Forekaster 2.35"/Rekon Race 2.35" Combos at the top of this list are too slow and draggy for this part of the world, while the ones at the bottom I would only recommend for XC races. I've run these combos on several full suspension bikes from a 150 mm/130 mm trail bike to a 120 mm/100 mm down country bike. Using rim widths from 30 mm down to 27 mm wide (internal).
@Jason Sheridan hey pal. Thx for advice. Much appreciated. Thing is I didn't end up going with Maxxis because my other bike has schwalbe. I ended up putting Hans Damf on the front and nobby nic in the back. Solid combo. But I know probably not faster rolling than your dissector/ rekon. When these tires wear out I may give Maxxis a try.
This led me to my next combo. Disector maxterra/XR4. Should be similar to aggressor rear but 100gm lighter. Have you tried an XR4 or heard anything positive or negative about it?
Yah man I've tried the XR4. I used to really like bontrager tires. The 2.4 blows up pretty narrow. Like a 2.3. Super light but it's extremely round profile. I'd probably take the Rekon over the XR4 personally
Love the XR4. It seems the newer ones blow up larger than most Maxxis 2.4's. I run a 2.4 Aspen rear (surprisingly good traction for tread) and XR4 2.4 front as my fast/light tire setup. 2.4 Aspens are known to be a little over 2.4 and XR4 is identical in volume.
I put a forecaster 29x2.35 on the back around 3 months ago and it’s fast and grips well but I put a hole in it today so I think it may be a bit thin for rocky trails,do you think the dissector is faster rolling than the aggressor?which one would you choose for long rides?
Yah ive had problems with the forecaster being too thin also. I need more time with the dissector as a rear.. I didnt love it the first go around. Its definitely fast no 2 ways about it... but so is the aggressor. Thats a really tough question. Its a coin flip. Id say dissector is faster if its a bit softer dirt, aggressor probably wins out in the super dry. No evidence to back that up though...
Man....i think i'll go with dissector front and aggressor in the rear , dual compound seems to keep a nice rolling resistance beside knobs design. Just one question....is it good a 2.3 tire (aggressor) on my 30mm rim? thanks bro
Dude yah that aggressor 2.3 blows up really nice on my 30.5mm internal rim! It actually blows to a 2.4 and has a really nice profile! 2.5 is too much for a rear time in my opinion for a 29er trail riding

In the future with lighter rims, i will try for sure dhf 2.5 front. light rims to compensate weight and rolling r. Of dhf. Man if I was doing an XC race with not much descending, I'd rock Rekon 2.4s front and rear! Or if you want more speed go rekon 2.4 / ardent race 2.35 If you want more traction I'd go dissector/rekon 2.4!! Hope that helps. Let me know!
Yes this helps lots! I was thinking bout doing what one of your fav's dissector up front and I think it was the aggressor in back. But if the rekon is lots faster in back then rekon it will be. But if I was racing and especially was more of a mild course from a downhill perspective id def recommend going rekon out back. Going uphill you can shave off minutes... downhill you shave seconds... food for thought!

Alright man. The videos had me set then I was about to hit order and watched one more of yours and now I’m lost but it seems you reply a lot. I’m really new to MTB. I’ve rode gravel till now. I have a 22 Scott Spark 960. I live in the middle of Alabama so everything from dry to wet but mostly wooded single track. Rocks and roots abound lol. I love climbing and am currently running the stock Schwalbe wicked wills. I want more confidence when climbing and descending. The trails are up and down with mild down but some pretty techy climbs. I was set on aggressor/dissector. Then decided DHR/dissector. Now I’m lost. 😆. Looking for your insight. I like the idea of the assagai with dissector rear but scared pedaling will be horrible. I like climbing fast just like going down lol.
I feel your pain!!😂😂😂 okay yah dude if you love climbing. Assegai is no go. I’d be looking at 1. Dissector / Rekon 2. Dissector / Aggressor 3. DHR2/ Rekon 4. DHR2 / Aggressor Those are in order from fastest uphill to slowest… and most grippy being number 4 On a Spark you won’t need anything more then those combos in terms of traction in my opinion
I'm looking for a Dissector for the rear. Have got an Dhr DD up rear at the moment, but it rolls way to heavy, but i like the solidity of the side walls. Should i go for an Dissector in exo, exo plus or Double Down casing?? Is there a noticable difference between exo and exo+?
Personally i don't like heavy tires. Id go exo+ if it was me! Just because we have alot of climbing. But if I was lifting all the time you could go DD. Exo+ is just a slightly beefier sidewall then exo.

120 tpi is more supple and used mostly for XC tires as they can be lighter yet less durable in terms of sidewall protection. I prefer 60tpi. Less tire squirm in corners. I'm running a dissector in the rear again going back and for with aggressor. They are both killer tires
@@dustinbjohnson That is also what I would assume from all the reviews I have seen. But in the video you said, that you did not feel like you gained anything speed-wise but lost a lot in other departments.
Agressor is a pig as a rear tire I have the 2.5 in the back and want to change for a reckon 2.4 doesn't feel that the agressor give me super confident in the downhills on long days climbing it kills your legs
@@dustinbjohnson ya I feel the same about the Rekon no grip on the downs and technical climbs and the braking control is not great. Also like the aggressor but wish it had better braking control on the steeps so hoping Dissector does the trick on the rear. Trying out the Dissector/Assegai combo soon. I think I’ll switch to the Dissector/Dissector combo for more mellow and XC type trails and the Assegai for the Nar!
Get the Dissector in the dual comp for the rear will roll faster and last a lot longer than the 3c I always run the dual compounds on the rear with maxxis tires
Here in idaho we don't get much wet riding, the trails just shut down once they are too wet. But I've got limited time on wet trails and really like the Schwalbe Nobby Nic 2.35 and Minion DHR2 2.4 in those conditions. They really excel in damp conditions
Id also look for something with a soft compound. Like MaxxGrip or Addix Soft or Ultra Soft. I've yet to try the Magic Mary in wet but I hear thats great as well!
Time to talk OEM tires mate. Specialized, Bontrager ...they are actually good, come in huge variety, cheaper than maxxis and come on all specialized/trek bikes
Personally I would run them the other way. I like the heavier grippier tire up front which is the DHR2 and the lighter faster tire out back. And the DHR2 blows up slightly wider then the dissector

Alright cool my tires now are 27.5x2.10 so you think 2.4 won’t be to wide but I’m check out that Rekon Race for sure .... I was also looking at the ikon trying to see which one out of the 2 I want

I ride with a group of XC guys and honestly I think the Dissector front, Rekon combo which I’m about to try will be safer. Aggressor in the back was just too heavy to climb these mountains and keep up with my xc buddies.
Yah man dissector/ rekon combo is fast! And has good grip for the downs.
I like the dissector so much more then the DHF
I just ordered two Rekons 2.6 and 2.4 (both Exo+) for the front and rear of my hardtail. I currently run DHF and DHR II but for the type of riding I do (technical trail, not so much downhill), the Minions are a bit of a drag.
Nice setup! I been riding a DHF 2.5/rekon 2.4 lately. Lovin it!

Yah man I'm just not a huge fan of the rekon. Just feels like a lack luster tire to me. That aggressor is one of my favorite tires ever. Fast and hooks up so good

Just moved over to this setup myself, stock on my bike was DHR/DHF then went Schwalbe Nobby Nic on the rear which I really liked and found to be a bit more playful feeling with noticeable more rolling speed. Now swapped an aggressor on the rear and traction is way improved on braking performance and is more planted laterally so a bit less playful. The dissector seems like hardly any downsides to the DHF though so totally agree, maybe a bit less longevity which is expected.

With the assegai up front the aggressor pairs much better then a rekon. Rekon works better with a less aggressive front tire

I agree with the aggressor over the Rekon for the rear. I tested them back to back, same day, same trail and felt like the aggressor rolled nearly as well but cornered and braked much better. Rekon feels vague cornering and doesn't inspire confidence. my climb times were nearly identical. I'm gonna try on my Evil FMB dissector/aggressor but would to hear how you would compare the aggressor to the dissector as a rear tire
I could not agree more, thats exactly how I felt on the rekon. It was good but felt vague and didn't give me confidence to push harder downhill like the aggressor. I have ran the dissector as a rear tire last spring. And I talked about it in a previous video. It has a weird characteristic as a rear tire. Kinda feels like it doesn't want to lean into corners like the aggressor. Almost feels like it fights what the front end is doing. But maybe I need to give it another try on my Following. Sometimes my first impressions can be off depending on the bike and conditions that day, or didnt have the PSI correct
I'm looking to change from dual DHR to something else next season. Trails can be pretty loose and dusty here in CA, the Aggressor says its for dry/rock but does it also work well in looser conditions. I see a lot of bikes even in the 150mm travel range now coming with a Dissector/Rekon combo. I think the DHRs are great if going to a bike park or if its moist but personally thinking its overkill for almost anything else. Looking to make my life easier with a better rolling tire but still have some fun going down.
Dhr2 is pretty money up front. Front tire doesn't make a huge difference in terms of pedaling uphill from a trail/enduro bike stand point. But try a 2.3 aggressor out bike. It's my go to here in the dry dusty loose

I’m happy with Dissector/Rekon after 500miles but def don’t bomb down hill fast. Also noticed Rekon wears out faster than Ardent. Maybe if I learn to ride harder will get Aggressor rear.
Rekon is a great fast tire. But aggressor definitely gives you a better sense if security

I'm currently running Assegai F and Aggressor 2.5 R and absolutely love it! I was considering of swapping to the DHR in front, but in the Maxx Grip compound to gain more traction. Have you ever used the Maxx Grip compound?
Yes! I have a video up on the DHF maxxgrip! Definitely more traction. But at the cost of some rolling speed....
Dissector rear and DHR II front maybe?
Not sure what to think about the Dissector in the front. It has even larger gaps between the center and side knobs than the minions and only comes in 2.4". Not having any experience, but looking at the profile and at what people say about this "gap" during corners before the side knobs bite again it seems a maybe a little lacking in predictability (something where the Assegai shines, if we ignore how sluggish it is).
I'm not a big fan of the dissector as a rear tire. Feels like it fights against me when going into corners. But I agree the drift zone is very similar to the DHF as a front tire. I can deal with the drift zone on the dissector over the DHF because its alot lighter and faster. That being said. Ill probably end up back on the assegai if I don't like the new magic mary I'm testing .
Hi mate, have you run dissector front and back? Is it sluggish on climbing ? I want a long distance trail setup , I am not crazy with technical riding, pretty mellow, I feel Rekon is at times not grippy enough. I am worried about weight and rolling resistance, but perhaps should not worry about it, what are your thoughts, I mainly ride forest tracks
You have to check out the new conti tires! I have completely given up on maxxis after putting some serious miles on the new contis. They are absolutely superior 🍻
I have been riding with a buddy who’s on dissector rekon combo. And the contis are are so much faster, easier to pedal and tons of traction 👌
Enjoying your tire reviews. I’m running 2.6 Dissector front and 2.5 Aggressor rear on my HT and like you want that unicorn set up, so trying a 2.4 Ardent rear. I haven’t tried a 2.4 Dissector, but the 2.6 rolls so fast and doesn’t give up much to a Minion but is less traction than an Assegai. Bike is Pipedream Moxie.

I need more time on a 2.6 I tend to stay away from that wide cause I've noticed the tire is more prone to rolling in corners. But I think thats a good call on the ardent out back! I actually think it would be better then the rekon
I have Dissector 29x2.4 front/Ardent 29x2.4 rear, but I am really concerned since the Ardent is significant wider than the Dissector...should I try Dissector 2.6 up front rather than 2.4? This would slow me down a lot? Any advice?
@@marcomedri6544 yah man personally that would bother me having a wider rear tire. I'm not a big fan of 2.6 tires. Not going to feel as fast or snappy as your 2.4. I'd try a 2.25 ardent or try that rekon 2.4... or maybe that forkaster 2.35

Dustin, I'm curious: on Maxxis site they claim that Dissector is 3.5 on rolling speed vs Rekon 3 but, Dissector about 100 grams heavier. When we shop for a fast tire are we better choosing the lightest one or the one with higher rolling speed (as per Maxxis site?) for the least rolling resistance? Thanks!
Excellent question! I will do a vid about that. Long story short. In my opinion, when climbing steep climbs weight is the biggest factor. When talking about rolling at speed and rolling resistance, I think tread pattern and compound is more important..

The more I ride the most I don’t thinks it’s hugely noticeable between Rekon and dissector. Dissector front and rear is killer combo. Just depends if you want a slight edge on the ups or the downs

@@sepultubob you really just have to mess around with different combos to see what works for you. For me I’ve found that I like a grippy beefy front tire with a less aggressive rear tire. Combos like DHF/aggressor or dhr2/ dissector have been my go too maxxis setups lately. Check out my latest video on the new continental enduro tires! I have been running them lately. Really liking them. They are so much faster rolling them maxxis and similar grip

Did you ever try the 2.6? I find it more secure as the tread is spaced out a little more. On my FS I'm going for MaxxTerra front and MaxxSpeed rear to replace my 2.4 Nobby Nics... Saves me around 220g for wider tyres, which is insane.
Yah I’m personally not a fan of 2.6 tires. Too baloony for me, and they feel sluggish and slow. I don’t veer away from 2.3-2.5 tires anymore.
I guess it depends on your conditions to. It sounds like you actually have mountains where you live. Here in South Florida I'm Pretty sure The Rekon will be pretty good in the back for our constant short ups and downs.
Very true! Boise is super dry and loose and the lower foothills can get very sandy. I've never rode in florida but i'm sure the Rekon would be great!

Personally I’d rather just run the 2.3 aggressor. Rekon is kind of an underwhelming tire for me. Decently fast. And okay traction. Or you could go something like a rock razor. I much prefer that to the Rekon. It’s fast like an ikon and corners like an aggressor

Anyway I'm thinking about getting dissector up front and rekon in the rear. It seems like everyone is all about crazy grip these days but don't realize that an assegai and Dhr2 are downhill/enduro tires. I know that combo will grip like hell, but is crazy heavy and rolling sucks. I'm more about a good balance of rolling resistance to grip ratio. Which is why I'm thinking to get the Dissector/rekon combo. Or possibly Rekon/rekon combo. What are your thoughts on the 2. I'm more of a guy who enjoys flowing trails and technical climbs.
As for the tire widths I wanted 2.6 dissector front and 2.4 rekon rear. But the place where I order my tires currently have the dissector 2.4 width in stock. Is 2.4 dissector good enough up front or do you think 2.6 rekon front be better with the 2.4 rekon in the rear?

Dissector 2.4 / rekon 2.4 is killer! I'm not a fan of 2.6 tires. Too big and balloony... And the feel dead and slow. 2.4 dissector is killer for down country bikes

Anyway yeah I think I'll settle on 2.4 dissector and 2.4 rekon rear. Oh almost forget my internal rim width is 35mm. Do you think that would change the tire profile significantly as a 2.4 tire...or like I said before is a 2.6 better for a 35mm rim.

@@gaddobronx6740 yah 35mm rim is a touch wide but should be fine. If you are worried about it can always do a 2.5 minion dhf.
I'm riding in Southern Ontario (around Barrie) and have settled on these exact tires, dissector 2.4" up front and recon 2.4" out back. I've tried all kinds of different combinations the last few years and settled on this combo for maximum rolling speed for the local terrain (winch then drop) with just enough grip to always stay in control. Here's some Maxxis combos I've tried starting from most grip to least grip:
- DHF 2.5"/DHR II 2.4"
- DHR II 2.4"/Aggressor 2.3"
- Dissector 2.4"/Aggressor 2.3"
- Dissector 2.4"/Rekon 2.4"
- Forekaster 2.35"/Forekaster 2.35"
- Forekaster 2.35"/Ardent Race 2.35"
- Forekaster 2.35"/Rekon Race 2.35"
Combos at the top of this list are too slow and draggy for this part of the world, while the ones at the bottom I would only recommend for XC races. I've run these combos on several full suspension bikes from a 150 mm/130 mm trail bike to a 120 mm/100 mm down country bike. Using rim widths from 30 mm down to 27 mm wide (internal).

I ended up putting Hans Damf on the front and nobby nic in the back. Solid combo. But I know probably not faster rolling than your dissector/ rekon.
When these tires wear out I may give Maxxis a try.
This led me to my next combo. Disector maxterra/XR4. Should be similar to aggressor rear but 100gm lighter. Have you tried an XR4 or heard anything positive or negative about it?
Yah man I've tried the XR4. I used to really like bontrager tires. The 2.4 blows up pretty narrow. Like a 2.3. Super light but it's extremely round profile. I'd probably take the Rekon over the XR4 personally
Love the XR4. It seems the newer ones blow up larger than most Maxxis 2.4's. I run a 2.4 Aspen rear (surprisingly good traction for tread) and XR4 2.4 front as my fast/light tire setup. 2.4 Aspens are known to be a little over 2.4 and XR4 is identical in volume.

I put a forecaster 29x2.35 on the back around 3 months ago and it’s fast and grips well but I put a hole in it today so I think it may be a bit thin for rocky trails,do you think the dissector is faster rolling than the aggressor?which one would you choose for long rides?
Yah ive had problems with the forecaster being too thin also. I need more time with the dissector as a rear.. I didnt love it the first go around. Its definitely fast no 2 ways about it... but so is the aggressor. Thats a really tough question. Its a coin flip. Id say dissector is faster if its a bit softer dirt, aggressor probably wins out in the super dry. No evidence to back that up though...

Dude yah that aggressor 2.3 blows up really nice on my 30.5mm internal rim! It actually blows to a 2.4 and has a really nice profile! 2.5 is too much for a rear time in my opinion for a 29er trail riding

In the future with lighter rims, i will try for sure dhf 2.5 front. light rims to compensate weight and rolling r. Of dhf. Man if I was doing an XC race with not much descending, I'd rock Rekon 2.4s front and rear! Or if you want more speed go rekon 2.4 / ardent race 2.35
If you want more traction I'd go dissector/rekon 2.4!!

Yes this helps lots! I was thinking bout doing what one of your fav's dissector up front and I think it was the aggressor in back. But if the rekon is lots faster in back then rekon it will be. But if I was racing and especially was more of a mild course from a downhill perspective id def recommend going rekon out back. Alright man. The videos had me set then I was about to hit order and watched one more of yours and now I’m lost but it seems you reply a lot. I’m really new to MTB. I’ve rode gravel till now. I have a 22 Scott Spark 960. I live in the middle of Alabama so everything from dry to wet but mostly wooded single track. Rocks and roots abound lol. I love climbing and am currently running the stock Schwalbe wicked wills. I want more confidence when climbing and descending. The trails are up and down with mild down but some pretty techy climbs. I was set on aggressor/dissector. Then decided DHR/dissector. Now I’m lost. 😆. Looking for your insight. I like the idea of the assagai with dissector rear but scared pedaling will be horrible. I like climbing fast just like going down lol.

2. Dissector / Aggressor
3. DHR2/ Rekon
4. DHR2 / Aggressor
Those are in order from fastest uphill to slowest… and most grippy being number 4
On a Spark you won’t need anything more then those combos in terms of traction in my opinion

I'm looking for a Dissector for the rear. Have got an Dhr DD up rear at the moment, but it rolls way to heavy, but i like the solidity of the side walls. Should i go for an Dissector in exo, exo plus or Double Down casing?? Is there a noticable difference between exo and exo+?
Personally i don't like heavy tires. Id go exo+ if it was me! Just because we have alot of climbing. But if I was lifting all the time you could go DD. Exo+ is just a slightly beefier sidewall then exo.

I'm debating assegai front and dissector/aggressor rear. One question.. does tpi 60 vs 120 matter?
120 tpi is more supple and used mostly for XC tires as they can be lighter yet less durable in terms of sidewall protection. I prefer 60tpi. Less tire squirm in corners. I'm running a dissector in the rear again going back and for with aggressor. They are both killer tires
I've had good luck with High Roller in the front and dissector in the back

I think the rekon is a faster tread pattern. Much more low profile knobs. Maxxterra is definitely fast rolling as well.

Agressor is a pig as a rear tire I have the 2.5 in the back and want to change for a reckon 2.4 doesn't feel that the agressor give me super confident in the downhills on long days climbing it kills your legs
Yah I won't run the aggressor 2.5 too heavy. Aggressor 2.3 is money. Fast and great way better then 2.4 rekon in my opinion
It come stock on my bike I was wonder that, that maybe because of the width is so heavy for a rear tire and not so much the tread

@@dustinbjohnson ya I feel the same about the Rekon no grip on the downs and technical climbs and the braking control is not great. Also like the aggressor but wish it had better braking control on the steeps so hoping Dissector does the trick on the rear.
Trying out the Dissector/Assegai combo soon. I think I’ll switch to the Dissector/Dissector combo for more mellow and XC type trails and the Assegai for the Nar!
Get the Dissector in the dual comp for the rear will roll faster and last a lot longer than the 3c I always run the dual compounds on the rear with maxxis tires

Here in idaho we don't get much wet riding, the trails just shut down once they are too wet. But I've got limited time on wet trails and really like the Schwalbe Nobby Nic 2.35 and Minion DHR2 2.4 in those conditions. They really excel in damp conditions
Id also look for something with a soft compound. Like MaxxGrip or Addix Soft or Ultra Soft. I've yet to try the Magic Mary in wet but I hear thats great as well!

Alright cool my tires now are 27.5x2.10 so you think 2.4 won’t be to wide but I’m check out that Rekon Race for sure .... I was also looking at the ikon trying to see which one out of the 2 I want
@@banksbanks5461 i have seen some rolling tests that the 2.4s are faster but also depends on your rim with! Id def go rekon race over ikon. The ikon is terrifying going down hill on trails

How is the ware on Dissector and Aggressor?
Dissector wears out pretty fast. Aggressor is much better life

I love the dissector as a front tire! Not so much as a rear. I much prefer the aggressor put back
You mean 2.4 dissector front and 2.3 aggressor rear? I’m running dhf 2.5 front / aggressor 2.5 rear right now and I love it! I’m just trying a different combo sir

Water is wet… you don’t use Rekon for going down whatsoever.
I definitely wouldn’t use a Rekon for wet. But definitely a killer rear trail bike tire
