J Leno has 3-4 in depth videos with (a few different) models of Dusenbergs at that. As well as a video of a Cord as well. I always assume most car ppl kno of J’s videos but just in case 😇😉 “Jay Leno’s Garage”

Jay Leno proclaims Duesenberg as one of his favorite builders of all time..how can you not agree looking at these beautiful examples of perfection..

Right cause that car is a piece of art. When they built cars back then, they were built to last and built to perfection. No money was spared when building Duesenbergs. At least when you got into a accident the car pretty much stayed in 1 piece unless you were driving really fast then you would destroy the other car and your car. I know there is a Duesenberg that is worth millions of dollars but its not this one. The one I saw was was either Midnight Blue or Black and it wasn't a convertible.

Correction: The Duesenberg straight-eight in the Model J was 420 cubic inches (video says 320). Otherwise, great video! Thanks for letting us take a ride we would otherwise never have the opportunity for.

Did you also catch he called it a Cabriolet top! But, I am not a Duisenberg specialist like he is and maybe like my Model A the roll up windows defines it as a Cabriolet, possibly Cabriolet disappearing top? IDK but I thought the disappearing top put it in a special genre all it’s own. I think only 25 Murphy bodied DTs convertible coupes were made.

    • @Loulovesspeed

@@rich40701 Cabriolet is another word for convertible - they are one and the same. It comes from horse drawn buggies with a fold down top.

@@Loulovesspeed I have a 1930 Ford Model A Cabriolet and Ford advertised and sold it as a Cabriolet. I also have a 2006 Ford Mustang GT convertible. I think the terminology has just changed through the years. My point was Duesenberg did not call that particular top a Cabriolet.

    • @Loulovesspeed
      @Loulovesspeed 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@rich40701 - I just located a photo and detailed poster of this Model JN being shown at The Amelia Island Concours. Cabriolet is a common term for convertible, that was developed and used in Europe. Convertible is the American term used for a soft, folding top. The poster detailing this JN Duesenberg refers to it as one of 4 cabriolet/convertibles. Two different terms describing the same thing.

I never understood what the expression " Grinning Ear To Ear " meant until watching this video.
Watching Matt grinning from ear to ear in shear delight was really emotional for me.
I was taken back to those early years of my life before I was a licensed driver myself,
and would badger compliant adults to take me for a ride in their automobile, the louder and more decrepid the better
I don't think I have been that excited or happy since.
Thanks Matt and Mike For living out your "Hot Rod " passion and taking all of your subscribers along with you.
You guys are living my dream and I thank God for your willingness to follow your dream.

Thanks to the Duesenberg brothers' pioneering work in perfecting the overhead camshaft design, both of my later model cars have highly efficient overhead cam 4 cylinder engines. But as a side note, I am glad neither of them have that non-synchro manual (hear the gears crunching) transmission. That alone would make the car a pain to drive with any regularity and make me glad to donate/sell it as everyone else has.

Seeing this braught back old nostalgic childhood memories from visiting friends to my parents. They are farmers and there used to be this red 2 cylinder vintage diesel tractor that I would be allowed to take the wheel in. Straight sidecut pipe, loud exhaust noise and a whole lot of torque. Never failed to put a smile on my face, even if it rained like crazy. Much like this guy's reaction when feeling the eerie sensation of this good ol' dusie stretching its legs on the open highway like any modern car.

Um correction, duesenberg straight 8s were NOT 320 cubic inches they were 420 cubic inches and the largest 8 cylinder US car engine of the day. The regular J made around 260 hp, the SJ made 320 horsepower, but the SSJ which was put on a shortened chassis had a special ramhorn intake and 2 carburetors on the supercharger instead of one giving the SSJ 400 horsepower! Bore was 3.75 inches and stroke was 4.75 inches.

It was everything before everything. It was a hot rod before hot rods. It was a coach built custom before customs. It was a supercar before supercars. 320 horsepower in the 30's? That's like carroll Shelby's supersnake having 800 horsepower in the 60's. They were on another level
