I have gone to tj for dental work( still in progress) i dont like tj though. Its so sad to me to see the needy people and animals, and so i avoid it. I like taking my car because i feel safer. We just go to a dentist that offers the medical pass. My experience with dentist has been good so far.
$132 is a good price. Yep, American dentists want to do your whole mouth. Usually they are the youngsters who just graduated and need to payoff loans. I like going to OLDER senior dentists. IT'S so clean in their offices, better than MY Dentists office.
I had a lot of medical treatments in Querètaro by very reputable doctors this year. I had the best experience ever. No waiting no insurance. I had every doctors whatsapp and could talk to them anytime. The care I received was a hundred times better than my dad got here recently for a knee replacement
I have 3 months goin to dentis here im calif only for one tooth to spensive 5000 dlrs and stil no finish my sister payed less in Mexico and 3 weeks they finish the job
I took my dog to Tijuana for an ACL repair surgery. They did a great job, and my Daisy had no complications. The cost was about $800 USD and in the US it was going to be over $3K. The following pin removal surgery was less than $100 about 6 months later. The vet called regularly when we got home to check in on her recovery. I would go back in a heartbeat if my pup ever needed another surgery like this.
I live in Arizona, and I've had some dental work done in Nogales, Mexico. I've saved thousands getting my work done in Mexico. The dentist office I visited in Mexico was literally right on the street that I entered on when walking into Nogales, so didn't even need a taxi.
Ya lord knows US doesn't do shit with help with dental work. I need dentures, but it's not gonna happen. So I go around looking like a meth head and I don't do drugs😡
Amazing, modern, and very clean facilities especially compared to the United States! 😮 Much better than upwards of $10,000 per night for a hospital stay over here.
Aww Gareth sorry to hear about your health issues! It is disheartening to find out that our health system in America sucks the hard way. We work so hard, pay our taxes and insurance only to find out that someone may or may not approve your case and you might not be eligible for healthcare even after paying for years.
Yes, we work hard to pay taxes so our government can misuse and mishandle our money, like giving it away to those who exploit the system or sending it to other countries to support war. Meanwhile, its citizens have to run to wherever to get help for ourselves. Sad!
Medical tourism is HUGE in Colombia and very safe. I do all my medical needs in Colombia and it's very affordable. Most of my doctors are American trained. I started going 3 years ago because I was so broken health wise and couldn't afford treatment in the United States. I'm currently in the process of selling my property in the USA and relocating full time to Colombia
I just had plastic surgery at New City Medical Plaza's hospital on Dec 5. It was the largest surgery I've ever had and the best care I've ever received. Unlike in the states, it's not considered an ambulatory surgery. I stayed overnight at the hospital (very reasuring to me). Then, the best part, I was able to go to a care house where I had 24/7 nurse support and three hot meals a day with two snacks, vitals monitored, medicines distributed, help showering and dressing my incisions, and even post surgical lymphatic drainage massage. They were in constanst communication with my surgeon as I healed and I could ask follow up questions any time. Plus I had transport to and from the care house to my post op follow up. It was cheaper than staying at a nice hotel! I can't say enough good things about my experience. Even my primary care doctor back home commented on the fantastic work.
This was awesome! As a San Diego resident that goes to TJ for dentistry all the time, I really appreciate the clean direction you provided. Just an extra hint: I personally use Uber in TJ, never felt unsafe and cheaper than local taxis. I've done a lot of work with my knee there as well. I really love the communication/hospitality that every office offers. Wonderful video thank you so much for making that! Would love to meet you one day!
@@MiddleAgedMillennial Prices are low because of competition, and patients are paying in cash. Think of how inexpensive lasik procedures have become in the US, something not covered by insurance.
@@MiddleAgedMillennial: ask the people in Canada or England about universal healthcare who died because they couldn’t get the treatment that they needed in a timely fashion.
This is the video I needed a few months ago when I was in Playa del Carmen, Mexico and walked past a dentist office. I'd heard stories about medical, but not dental, stuff in Mexico being cheap. I was due for a regular cleaning, so I popped in to ask if they spoke English (yes, of course), when their next opening was (in a few days), and how much it costs (~$46 USD). I went back to my hotel and did some research, checked reviews, etc. before deciding to do it. That dentist cleaned better than some I've had in the US and spoke perfect English! Turned out he had lived in the US for a few years and had many U.S. patients in Playa. He had a solo practice and did everything himself, including my basic cleaning! In the US, that never happens unless they're short staffed. The best part was no new patient Xray requirement that costs an arm in the US. I saved so much money with that dentist, it practically paid for my flights! I had a very similar experience with a dental cleaning in Budapest, Hungary, where I learned Hungary is the choice destination for medical and dental tourism for people in neighboring European countries. I think that cleaning was ~$35 USD in 2017. Hope my stories encourage others to consider this. And Gareth, I'm blown away you haven't had travel insurance! I have used World Nomads for years and have had many claims paid. It covers all travel and medical incidents for less than medical insurance alone costs in the US!
My son gets Physiotherapy through Fisiosport in TJ. As a native San Diegien I have never driven across the border. I also haven’t been here in 30 years. We now go every week for the past month. The benefits of going to TJ for the treatment of rehabilitation for my sons ankle injury has been well worth it. I just wish I saw this video prior to going . Finding an orthopedist would have been my next step a few months ago
Thank you so much for sharing your own personal story - it really helps validate my own conclusions from this episode. If you want to recommend anyone here publicly, I think that would help people. 🙏
What a wealth of information! It brings piece of mind for those who would be hesitant to seek medical treatment outside of the U.S. Thank you Gareth! On a side note, I am sorry to hear that your health was compromised while visiting the Amazon. Stay well and be well. ❤
New City Medical Center is bringing in highly talented Doctors, a well respected ophthalmologist from the state of Jalisco just opened up her office here in Tijuana.
I have been to Guadalajara with my daughter for a procedure and Tijuana with my sister. Both times were excellent experiences. Also there is a delicious steak house in Tijuana that is absolutely amazing. It is right across the street from the big hotel we stayed at.
Let me guess: You stayed at City Express suits and the delicious Steakhouse is Mr Pampas? 😅 having my mommy make over in February cheers from Park City Utah!
Thank you for making these videos! I live in Mexico (city) and unfortunately our country used to have (or still has) terrible fame for doing "botched" surgeries because as the doctors told you, that's what makes the news. In most countries you will have good and bad doctors and people fail in doing the proper research and just focus on the price. But Mexico has really incredible and world trained and respected doctors, specialists and surgeons. And theres also the aspect of "accessibility to anyone"... anyone who can pay for it or has proper insurance can go directly to the specialist and be treated effectively and on time. I can't imagine having to wait years for treatment if my general practitioner would't or couldn't sent me to a specialist. I've had both plastic and functional/medical surgeries here in mexico City and my doctors are increible. I hope many people see this video!
I went to Tijuana 7/8 years ago for gastric sleeve surgery. 4000 paid to a us company to set it up. Got tired of regular health insurance making me jump through so many hoops to try and get the surgery done. All went well. 100 plus lbs still gone all this time later.
My sister had the same procedure done in TJ as well. The procedure went well and she's lost 75 pounds in 1 year. No complications and great follow-up. And yes, at a much cheaper price.
I know someone who had gastric bypass surgery in TJ. She had a great experience, & it was much cheaper than in the US, even including airfare for herself & a friend to look after her.
The surgeon is absolutely right. Too many aesthetic surgeons without training pass as plastic surgeons in TJ, and the governing board still certifies them because they’ve paid and pass a test. Other red flags, especially for surgery: - Doctors advertising on instagram and requesting pictures and a deposit before meeting a patient. - If your first time meeting the surgeon is on the day of surgery. - The clinic is not affiliated with a hospital which has critical care services backup. Ask about their contingency plan. -The use of influencers: the paying or compensating patients is unethical. - Often luring patients with “special” offers, prize contests, raffles. -The doc or coordinator cancels on you without a phone call and full explanation. - They ghost you or give you the run around. If at any point you have to chase them around for answers…run away! - Overall impression of the clinic and staff: Is there a resuscitation cart nearby and visible? Does the front / reception area look sharp but the rear looks drab? The primary reasons for post-op compilations are infections. If staff has a cavalier attitude about patients’ observations, run!
Garett, it would also be useful for you to make a “follow up” video of actual patients who had problems when something unexpected happened, either DURING a procedure or later, when they leave. (eg excess bleeding, post op infections which MAY/COULD develop AFTER the patient returns home, or any other “something”) The post-op problems are sadly, a reality which can occur anywhere in the wold, no matter the excellence of care. Just a thought….
I completely understand - being from Upstate New York, I never thought this was possible or a good option. Now it saves me hundreds of dollars a year - with quality care!
Thank you for making this video. My husband is actually from Mexico but he’s very worried about going down there because of the cartels. But we both need a lot of dental work. We do have dental insurance but as you know $1500 a year per person in our family doesn’t cover much maybe a couple cavities. I just had two root canals done and needed two crowns, and between the cost of the two crowns, and the two root canals with insurance I was still out of pocket almost $4000! No more I think we’re going to come to the clinic, so thank you so very much for making this video. It put my mind at ease.
A friend of mine needed a lot of dental work, which would have been about $7K in the US. As she has been to Latin America on visits over the years and speaks Spanish due to her time there, she went to Colombia, stayed in a lovely condo on the beach, and had the work done AND the condo stay for about $2500!!
Genuine question- why do you think a cartel would care about you? Do you think they have binoculars looking at at foreigners crossing waiting to kidnap them? They don't care about you or me, in fact it's bad for business to target foreigners. Fact is Tj is a great city with great people that gets a bad rap from media. There are 3 million people that live their life everyday without incident. By the way, I am white gringo and in TJ twice a week. I have never once had a issue. I have taken my dog to the vet there-for major surgery that was successful.
@@John-kq7jx134 murders per 100,000 people it’s literally been ranked the most dangerous city in the world. 2100 murders in 2019 alone. And yes the cartels aren’t caring who gets caught in the crossfire look at what’s happening at vacation destinations there. kind of ridiculous to say it’s perfectly safe just because you haven’t had anything happen.
As a little girl my parents would always take me to the dentist from Chula Vista to TJ . After wed go for food. Getting fresh fruit and shrimp cocktail was the best!!!
Everything in this video is word for word my experience of going to Mexico for treatment. I'm in Phoenix so a 3 hour drive. I can get an appointment for a root canal in a few days. 3 months in the US for an appointment. In Mexico I got a root canal and cap in 1 day. In the US root canal is one dentist, cap 2 weeks later by a different dentist. I did the US thing because I have Medicare dental. Much less, very little, pain in Mexico. Lots of pain in US. I go to Laser Dental in Nogales, 1 block walk from border. Their equipment is very modern, much better than I see in the US. I think the dentists in Mexico know word of mouth is everything so they do everything they can to provide the best care.
So glad you did this video. I have been going to Mexico for years for my Dental. I live in North Dakota and will take a trip in the winter to go down for what I need to have done. I also get my pharmacy needs there also and have never ever had any problems at all and have met some wonderful people.
After I sent the message, I remembered I forgot to say where I go in Mexico. It is a little town Los Alogodones. It is just southwest of Yuma, Arizona and you should see the line of Americans going in daily for Medical treatments of all kinds. The Local Native American Tribe own land on the border and have a parking lot and you can pay to park your car there and it is well worth the price. When we do go, we leave where we are staying very early and get to the border as early as possible. Such wonderful people there too and always so helpful. My cousin lives in Brownsville, Texas and he goes across the border to Mexico for everything including haircuts and he also loves Mexico and the people. @@GarethLeonard
My grandmother needed meds for years and the US prices were $800 for two bottles of pills that would barely last a month and a half. Luckily we live in Southern California and I would routinely make the trip to Mexico to party a bit and buy meds for my grandmother. The local pharmacy I could just walk in and give them her script, walk out with two bottles 3 month supply for $55.00! Literal life saving meds the US was gauging her for…
This was a great idea for a video! Very interesting to learn about. I feel like Mexico gets a bad rap, but this really shows how great healthcare can be there. 👏👏👏
@@GarethLeonardtruth is there good and bad doctors everywhere. Problem is in Mexico it’s easier to get away with being a bad doctor if victims of malpractice can’t sue like we do in the US. I don’t know if Mexican health providers are required to carry malpractice insurance like they do in the US. If they don’t carry it, that might explain their less costly prices.🤷🏾♀️😉 The trick is to come across an ethical, skilled doctor with formidable aesthetics for the ones in the beauty industry.😜 And if they are like that, I wonder how long they’ll want to remain in Tijuana.😅
Myself with health insurance, I still go to Tj for medical treatment. Appointments are fast and doctors go to the root of the cause rather that just prescribing Tylenol. At least my doctor does. And they are thorough with the questions and know what exams you need. Rather than ordering a bunch of exams you don't really need. Pretty straight forward and economic.
One vet tech I worked with left to go work in Mexico. She said it was better pay and a lot more freedom in treatment of pets. I've noticed that pet care is goig the way of human care. More insurance, more costs, shorter appointments, and clients feeling not heard.
This was a fascinating look at the medical tourism industry in Tijuana. As someone who has dealt with health issues for over fifteen years now and has had lots of frustrating experiences with doctors here in the U.S., I'm amazed at not only the price point for treatments there, but also the ease of access to specialists. It's certainly eye-opening. I'm so sorry to hear that you've been going through your own health struggles, and I hope you've been able to get the proper treatment for it. Looking forward to hearing your story in the next episode. As always, this is next-level stuff, Gareth. You're a wonderful storyteller and this episode is yet another example of that.
I am a dental hygienist in Southern California. I have 33 years experience. I agree this is a great deal. Make sure you get referrals from people who’ve been there. There is no reason why dentistry should be so expensive in Mexico. As long as you have properly trained, clinicians, a system, where you know 100% they are sterilizing the Instruments, the third wish may be hardest, is to find somebody that will back up their work if things go not according to plan.
Amazing video! I have often wondered about the intricacies of plastic and cosmetic dental surgeries in Mexico. Would love to see more on these topics. Love your channel! 💖
A friend of mine lives in San Diego and goes over the border a lot to see doctors, hair appointments and to shop. She also brings clothes and other things for the locals in Mexico to help out those in need.
The best dental destination in Mexico for those coming from the north is LosAlgodones across the river from Yuma..been going there for years , super modern equipment and fast turnaround time..Nicer office than any offices in my town in California.
Gareth Leonard! You are Loved! Thanks for posting! I am always so glad to see your handsome face! What a marvelous adventure, as per usual... and such valuable information packed in there too! ❤❤❤ can't wait until the next adventure!
@@GarethLeonard i wouldn't miss it for the world! I'm going to be doing some solo travelling through the U.s. shortly! Some places i haven't seen yet, and i am currently in the 1/2 of me is so excited while the other half is absolutely trying to chicken out. But this is my chance to feel not so stuck anymore, and i am determined to go, even if i have to leave my best buddy, (a cat,) at home. Going to spread my wings and hopefully find some fulfillment!
The dental practice has great prices. I was fortunate to live in Colombia during 2020 and was able to get 25-27 porcelain veneers for under $2,000. Mexico is next on my list for some procedures I need this summer. Appreciate this video, dude!
Great video. I think you showed that people really need to do their research when going to Mexico for any services, just like you should research your doctor back home. I know this was shot a while ago, so I hope you have fully recovered or are on the way to full recovery. I think that dermatologist was ready to help you out with your parasite.
Thank you as always Christopher. It has been a rough couple of months, but I'm finally on the way up again. Hopefully I can get back out into the world ASAP! 🙏
My niece used to live in San Diego and would cross to Tijuana to do her teeth. She got her braces there she has insurance because her husband is in the Navy but it's very expensive to do in the US
Thank you Vivian. I would be interested to hear from other people in the comments if they use the pharmacies. I am told they are one of the most popular aspects of the medical tourism down here. However, same with treatments, you really have to be careful on where you go (I could ask doctor friends for reputable places for you).
@@picilocarnaljust go the reputable places such as the ones mentioned above or farmacias Benavides, Farmacia Guadalajara, etc. People don’t understand meds aren’t cheaper in Mexico, but they are actually too expensive in the USA because of your insurance companies and health system. Also, for you it might be cheap but for Mexican average wages they are not.
@@GarethLeonardI’ve been going to a pharmacy in Tijuana called Amsterdam for 20 years now. They have everything, from Retin A cream to homeopathic natural. And they r walking distance, in the plaza that’s right by the PedWest entrance, next to dental brush dental office. They are a small family owned pharmacy that only stock the higher end quality medications from the best laboratories. I was buying from a reputable chain pharmacy b4 but started to develop stomach aches after taking the medication. Long story short.. I learned that many of the chain pharmacies have contracts with the cheaper laboratories, some even make their own medications and don’t always use the highest quality ingredients because profit is their top priority. Were as a smaller independently owned pharmacy is free to stock their shelves with the better quality meds. So i would try to find a smaller independent pharmacy that’s trustworthy, or if you do buy from the chains just make sure not to buy their own brand & choose the better known laboratories.
Fun video to watch! I have friends who go to TJ to see the Dr and Dentist and I never have to be honest, I pay my dentist out of pocket in K-Town LA and it isn’t very expensive and have insurance with Kaiser/ObamaCare as I’m self employed and everything has been fine but at one point I did have one of those HMO/PPO plans and it was a nightmare getting referrals so the system in TJ seems very straightforward and accessible. You just have the task of doing your own due diligence but now with access to so much information, it isn’t difficult and we do it nonetheless. Hoping you’re all better now, can’t believe you’re going through that😬
Thanks for watching, and for sharing your experience! Being self-employed is what makes this all so interesting to me - I pay over $300/month for health insurance myself and it seems like I'm still paying like crazy every time I see someone - and 0 dental coverage!
@@christine230this is bery similar to US east coast and because in dentistry there are no regulations on price capping Example-$350 for xrays Then eye doctors are even worse for wxan prices withholdi.g your Rx trying to pressure sell their glasses and contacts When you have a right to your record and should never have your Rx withheld
Hi Gareth! Thank you for promoting my city. I was born and raised in Tijuana, now a resident of San Diego. I still have my dentist down in Tj. Thank you for the good work!!
Good morning Gareth Leonard. It's currently 10:20am, October 30th 2023. I've been watching your channel for some time now, and want to say thank you for what you do. It's been a while since I've seen a new upload from you, and hope that you are well. Will keep you in my prayers. Have a safe n blessed day.
$3200 lower wisdom teeth removal is what they wanted in San Diego. Did it for $550 in TJ. I still use my insurance in SD but for things not covered I'll go to TJ.
I can't say that I'm lucky, but I can see my dermatologist any time I want, as often as I want, and I have had so many procedures done with him. And, when I had a staph infection, he was able to get the best care for me, even better than what my doctor was able to do. But, the reason I have anytime access to my dermatologist is because I have had skin cancer in several places and have had to have procedures to cut and burn the cancer cells because my grandparents were immigrants from Scotland and I am 2nd generation American. I love my dermatologist. He had three Scottish Terriers, and I have had 2 in my lifetime, so I loved seeing their pictures and hearing about them. I always wear the same ring to my appointments because the stone in the ring is the same color as his very light blue eyes. lol. He used to be in the Air Force, and I grew up in the Air Force, and he used to be on the radio as a DJ. And, he plays Reggae music when he does the outpatient surgeries. One day, a place on my leg was hurting a lot, and I was sitting at my desk in my room. I called out to my Boxer, "Bossier! Come her and check out Daddy's leg." I was just kidding, but I heard her hop down from the couch and she came into my room, walked up to me and went immediately to the spot on my leg that was hurting and she sniffed it for a little bit. Then, she looked up at me and then examined a larger area of my leg, but went right back to that spot. I asked her if I was going to be okay, and she gave me a kiss, left the room and went back to the couch. So, I made an appointment to see my dermatologist and when I saw him, I told him that my Boxer said this is cancer, and I pointed to the location. He said he didn't think it looked like cancer, but agreed to do a biopsy. Turned out to be cancer. My Boxer did this twice. Som, when she had an inoperable tumor, I believed that she understood she too had cancer, but she didn't make it. But, she examined me every single day after that first time she examined me, until the area was completely healed. The day she died, she examined me.
this video is perfect, as long as you go to a recommend doctor you're always going to be in good hands in Mexico my family and I have been doing this for years
Thanks for sharing great information! I have never thought of medical tourism and was always afraid of the quality of care. I learned much watching this. I've decided that I will definitely explore my options and start treating my self to better dental care instead just suffering with what I can afford in the U.S. with dental insurance. Also loved the useful tips on traveling and getting across the border quicker.
I've travelled to Tijuana 3x this year, great care at reasonable prices. I had dental insurance through my work, though it was capped at 1,500 per year. They did what you said, where they recommended a whole bunch of work, when I needed a root canal to which they referred me to a specialist and quickly my benefit was used up for the year prior to the crowns. So I travelled to Tijuana and got very excellent care. I felt very safe and took one of those taxi's. One thing, is to print out the directions to your Dr or take a screen shot, incase your phone plan cuts out and you can't use google maps. Another is to find a well known business near your dental office.
That's a great reminder about printing directions. The first time I drive into TJ with my dog ( vet visit) my phone service cut out I was freaking out. Luckily I knew the general area and drove there until service came back. What I do now is download maps offline. It can be done in Google and apple maps.
Thanks Gareth, Great info, especially for us locals. For your viewers, check with your dental insurance provider, some will provide reimbursement for dental work provided outside the US.
Hello from Phoenix Arizona. This is a great video thank you for doing it. I just paid $3700 for two crowns and a couple of small fillings. Here in the US. The doctor was excellent. The treatment was excellent with the cost was just astronomical. No telling what I could’ve got it done down there for.
Growing up and to this day my parents have always gotten medical care in Tijuana. I highly recommend going to a place where a relative has gone to or even knows the staff personally. Today’s waiting time to cross the border is insane so I highly recommend applying for sentir. Very difficult to get authorization. Another way is to ask people you know who do daily commute crossing and ask when is rush hour that way you avoid those timings. Also do appointments early in the morning you really don’t want to be wandering around when the sun starts going down.
My ex has a vaca home in Puerto Vallarta Has ALL his dental done in Mexico and is 1000% happy with it all, and he’s a very demanding perfectionist 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Gareth ! Great video again ! Even tho i have the option to get dental insurance in the U.S .. i prefer to go to Mexicali they do half the cost, seems like in the US they like to play the insurance companies ending you to pay out of pocket
Yeah, it seems like the insurance companies have everyone by the balls here in the US! It's very frustrating - stay tuned for the next episode when I explain in details of my nightmare with US insurance!
So true! My kid has an issue but was scheduled for 3 months out for the specialist. I tried calling around and its 3-6 months some aren't even adding more patients! You can have insurance and still pay a fortune especially dental--which defeats the purpose of having insurance. The same happens with Americans traveling by bus in groups to get cheaper prescriptions in Canada. It makes no sense!
Great video. I second everything you did in this video. I have been going to Tijuana for years. I use Tijuana Dentist Advanced Smiles, Dermapiel Dermatology, and Simnsa Medical Center. The savings are incredible. For one dermatology procedure, I was quoted $750-900 in the US. I paid $70 in Tijuana. Got $10.000 dental work done for $3500 with better materials and better service.
Really great information. Thank you! Re: Global Entry or Sentri to speed your crossing into the US....The process to get either of those can be months long. The Medical Pass you mentioned if you are driving is fast and easy. But, if you are walking, and the line is long you can buy a bus ticket from one of the nice people selling them for $10 at the line. They will guide you to the bus area. The bus company has an APIS agreement with Customs/Border Protection. They will pre-screen you and board you on a bus that takes you through/past the vehicle Sentri line. A CBP agent opens a gate that allows direct access to the building where the CBP agents are located. You will have a designated and most importantly, short, line to do a normal check of your documents. I do this nearly every time I cross into the US and normally takes 30-45 minutes, even when the walking line is a 3-4 hour wait.
My wife an I both had weight loss surgery in Tijuana. Neither of us had any issues. In both cases our health insurance providers wouldn't cover bariatric surgery so it was the best choice for us. It has been 10+ years with no complications.
Hey brother G, this video was super informative and helpful - thank you. I hope whatever health issue you’re dealing with from the Amazon rainforest will be treated soon and successfully. Will keep you in my prayers, bro.
@@GarethLeonard Thank you Gareth! Keep the videos coming. I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I hope you can get your skin taken care of quickly 😢🤞🏼
I came here right after watching your "health scare" video. My heart breaks for you but I'm glad you're doing well now. So I've had alopecia areata for about 10 years now. It went untreated for a long time because I was ashamed of having it. I wore my hair in a ponytail most of the time to hide it. At this point, the ponytail hardly covers it anymore. Unfortunately, I'm broke AF to afford proper treatment and I no longer have medical insurance. So I just now started the self-treatment process. Most of it is still trial and error, but hoping for some results. If not, I'd just have to live with it for the rest of my life. Great video as always, full of useful tips and boatloads of information. Keep up the good work, but do take care of yourself as well. Health is really all we have going for us. Without it, we can't accomplish anything. Cheers, Gareth!
Thank you G for sharing this. It’s a great information insight on healthcare across the border. Being in healthcare here in the States, I here so many people speak about their experiences, some good some bad. Like your video ❤
@@GarethLeonardnot in the same proportion though, mainly because US docs must carry medical malpractice insurance. Too many lawsuits might make the insurer drop the doctor.
Great video to help those non latin peeps get over the fear of Tijuana. Def safer than the news says. And you’d be amaze how many non Latinos you see. It’s a tourist destination for the SoCal peeps that want good sea food, street food and affordable care
I’m from SD. I remember my hs teachers going to tj for work because it’s cheaper like dental work. It’s a norm here for people to go there at least in my community. Most of us have horrible insurance or none at all I went to the hospital a year ago in tj cause I was sick and I was charged 100$. It would’ve 5k in the u.s for the ER.. My husband has eczema skin condition and he’s been to so many dermatologists here in the states and none of them could honestly treat it. I took him to tj and his eczema never ever flares up and when it does now its healed within a day 👍🏼 When my dog was having seizures we took her to tj they put her on meds for 3 months and she’s been seizure free for years now. In the states I got charged 500$ jsut to be told they have to do more tests so I took her to tj and paid 30$ for visit and meds.
Hmm,...I have traveled to TJ probably 20 times for dental and just to get away...In recent years has to used East ,( San Ysidro) border and admittedly I have always procrastinated on getting a Sentri card...but I have always left around 8:00 am and never spent more than 1.5 hours at longest to cross...Usually 45 minutes.
THANKS FOR WATCHING ❤ I would love to hear about your experiences or questions in the comments. Have you tried medical tourism? Would you try it?

I have gone to tj for dental work( still in progress) i dont like tj though. Its so sad to me to see the needy people and animals, and so i avoid it. I like taking my car because i feel safer. We just go to a dentist that offers the medical pass. My experience with dentist has been good so far.
How do I apply for that Sentri card? Because I need surgeri but I check what hospital is the best
Thank you I’ve been holding back on treatment in California since it’s expensive, but I’m gonna try schedule appointment with them soon, thank u 🙏

Thank you so much for sharing your story and perspective - this is the type of story you will never hear about in the news! 🙏

Can you share the info of the dentist in Queretaro?
Queretaro! Beautiful place.
Do u need any papers for dogs? To go in n out?

I live in Arizona, and I've had some dental work done in Nogales, Mexico. I've saved thousands getting my work done in Mexico. The dentist office I visited in Mexico was literally right on the street that I entered on when walking into Nogales, so didn't even need a taxi.
what dentist did you see in nogales mexico 🇲🇽
What dentist do you go to?? I’m looking for one
That’s awesome. I do the same thing when I need high-priced things done for my teeth. Regular dentistry here that’s covered by insurance
Yeah, I was blown away by some of the price differences! 🤯
I'm interested in lipo and bbl, what dr, hospital and surgery did u get if I may ask. Cost??
This was awesome! As a San Diego resident that goes to TJ for dentistry all the time, I really appreciate the clean direction you provided.
Just an extra hint: I personally use Uber in TJ, never felt unsafe and cheaper than local taxis.
I've done a lot of work with my knee there as well. I really love the communication/hospitality that every office offers.
Wonderful video thank you so much for making that! Would love to meet you one day!
I hope you vote in favor of universal healthcare
@@MiddleAgedMillennial Prices are low because of competition, and patients are paying in cash. Think of how inexpensive lasik procedures have become in the US, something not covered by insurance.

And a full dental XRay costs around $40 usd in Mexico, even if you needed one.
Fabulous r❤eview

Where which doctor
The surgeon is absolutely right. Too many aesthetic surgeons without training pass as plastic surgeons in TJ, and the governing board still certifies them because they’ve paid and pass a test.
Other red flags, especially for surgery:
- Doctors advertising on instagram and requesting pictures and a deposit before meeting a patient.
Thank you so much for this insight and information!! I hope it finds the people who need it most! ❤️
Best comment!!!🎉
Garett, it would also be useful for you to make a “follow up” video of actual patients who had problems when something unexpected happened, either DURING a procedure or later, when they leave. (eg excess bleeding, post op infections which MAY/COULD develop AFTER the patient returns home, or any other “something”) The post-op problems are sadly, a reality which can occur anywhere in the wold, no matter the excellence of care. Just a thought….
That's valuable information that benefits people. Thanks for sharing.
Wow! I had no idea. I am in California so that looks like an option I might consider. Especially for dental services. Thanks, Gareth!
I completely understand - being from Upstate New York, I never thought this was possible or a good option. Now it saves me hundreds of dollars a year - with quality care!
Hey I just went to TJ for a deep cleaning for dentist… here in LA price was $2000 and in TJ very professional Dentist $260 ! Definitely worth it !
I live in North Dakota and will
take a trip in the winter to go down for what I need to have done. I also get my pharmacy needs there also and have never ever had any problems at all and have met some wonderful people.
Thank you so much for your first-hand account - do you go to Tijuana or somewhere else?
Literal life saving meds the US was gauging her for…
So sorry to hear about your medical issue. Such a scary situation. Glad you are on the road to recovery.
Thank you very much. Yes, I will explain much more on the next episode - it has been a scary journey, but I think we have found some answers 🙏
This was a great idea for a video! Very interesting to learn about. I feel like Mexico gets a bad rap, but this really shows how great healthcare can be there. 👏👏👏
Yes, the US Media loves to show how dangerous and scary Mexico is - it gets the clicks.
If they don’t carry it, that might explain their less costly prices.🤷🏾♀️😉
The trick is to come across an ethical, skilled doctor with formidable aesthetics for the ones in the beauty industry.😜
And if they are like that, I wonder how long they’ll want to remain in Tijuana.😅
Good health care for the rich, if you were a poor mexican, good luck if you survive.

Thank you Vivian. I would be interested to hear from other people in the comments if they use the pharmacies. I am told they are one of the most popular aspects of the medical tourism down here. However, same with treatments, you really have to be careful on where you go (I could ask doctor friends for reputable places for you).
Pharmacy wise that I trust are Farmacias Roma, Farmacia Gusher, Farmacias Guadalajara, or Farmacias del Ahorro.
Make sure the pharmacy doesn’t buy meds in the black market to cut costs. Issues have been reported with doctored meds, some containing fentanyl.
@@picilocarnaljust go the reputable places such as the ones mentioned above or farmacias Benavides, Farmacia Guadalajara, etc. People don’t understand meds aren’t cheaper in Mexico, but they are actually too expensive in the USA because of your insurance companies and health system.
Great video. High quality, informative and genuine
I appreciate it. 🙏

The day she died, she examined me.
this video is perfect, as long as you go to a recommend doctor you're always going to be in good hands in Mexico my family and I have been doing this for years
Thanks for sharing your experience. I think that's the biggest takeaway anywhere - you gotta do the research! 👊
Dr Medina is AMAZING!
Such a great informational video. Thank you.
Very informative and shows the Mexico facilities are really modern and not some hole in the wall on some no-name street
Yeah, that was the biggest goal of this episode - to show that Mexico isn't as scary as everyone in the US wants them to be.

My ex has a vaca home in Puerto Vallarta
Has ALL his dental done in Mexico and is 1000% happy with it all, and he’s a very demanding perfectionist 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I live in TJ for a long time facilities are top and they have good doctors as any other city, i even have family members that are dentists there 😊
Thank you for recommending !!!!! 😊
I went today. I’m very happy amazing service
Thank you so much for your experience and recommendations. This is incredibly helpful!! 🙏
This was so insightful. Thank you!
WOW! Your showing is very interesting in tourism industry, thanks for your sharing, friend😍😘🌺👍
Which doctor where
Well done! Learned a lot… and best of luck with your medical condition!
Thank you. Incredibly informative 👏🏼

Hey brother G, this video was super informative and helpful - thank you. I hope whatever health issue you’re dealing with from the Amazon rainforest will be treated soon and successfully. Will keep you in my prayers, bro.
Thank you so much! I'll explain a lot more in the next episode... starting recovery as we speak! 🙏

Very informative ! I will be going here lots of great doctors who have the high quality of services and everything on one building ..
I’ll be moving to San Diego next year. Very excited about that, but this is definitely good information for those of us that don’t have healthcare.
I love to hear that this video was helpful for you, and welcome to San Diego!!
@@GarethLeonard Thank you Gareth! Keep the videos coming. I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I hope you can get your skin taken care of quickly 😢🤞🏼
If you can afford to move to San Diego you can surely afford to buy health insurance sheesh
@@jess97724 Sheesh yourself asshole 🙄
I get my dental work done in tijuana too. They do a great job and have state of the art equipment better than the states and way cheaper
Thanks for sharing your experience! Anyone in particular you recommend for dental?

👏U.S. for such a good job at healthcare that we have to go to Mexico for affordable health and dental care. Sweet video!!!!
Thank you so much for watching! Yes, I feel like it's the same in US as it is in Mexico - good and bad doctors everywhere!
Aw! I'm from Tijuana. Long time since I haven't visited.
Nice video ❤
Thank you 🙏
I’m from SD.
I remember my hs teachers going to tj for work because it’s cheaper like dental work.
It’s a norm here for people to go there at least in my community. Most of us have horrible insurance or none at all
I went to the hospital a year ago in tj cause I was sick and I was charged 100$. It would’ve 5k in the u.s for the ER..
My husband has eczema skin condition and he’s been to so many dermatologists here in the states and none of them could honestly treat it. I took him to tj and his eczema never ever flares up and when it does now its healed within a day 👍🏼
When my dog was having seizures we took her to tj they put her on meds for 3 months and she’s been seizure free for years now.
Great video!! Very informative.
Thank you! 🙏
