    "The feeling of the perfect cadence is the place where one meets God" ... "Barrios reminds us how mortal we are" What a wonderful way to describe what Barrios' music inspires in whoever listens to him. I enjoyed very much the excerpts of "La Catedral", thank you Mr. Hurwitz, I admire your knowledge and your art.

    I just worked this whole piece back up not having played it in a long time. I have BA performance degree and played it on my junior recital 1994. I really connected with what you were saying about the harmonies in the prelude. It came back to me pretty quick, but I'm still polishing it. I do approach the whole piece with more reverence now. Wonderful lecture. Barrios was a Genius.

    Thank you for the highly inspirational and informative talk about the piece and amazing playing! One then listens with much more active ears to a piece we guitarrists heard 30000 times in many different ways. Looking forward for the other two movements!

    Muchas gracias por la clase, muy comprensible la dicción en inglés!!! Excelentes estrategias de trabajo 👌
    Sí me lo permites, en la cadencia de armónicos haz tu ataque de mano derecha gradualmente hacia el puente para más definición del sonido.

    Why do people place a piece of cloth/towel behind the guitar, I see this a lot ?

    • @talhurwitz
      @talhurwitz  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Chris, the reason is to protect the wood from sweat. Also, I find it more pleasant.

    • @christofinb
      @christofinb 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@talhurwitz ok thanks Tal, I’ve often wondered why that to protect the guitar might be the reason.
      I’ve seen Pepe Romero practice with his guitar draped with a towel I wondered if it helped support the guitar in some way, but i presume the main reason is to protect the guitar from sweat as well.

    The prerequisites for being a great musician are having a high IQ and a musical gift. If you don't have these things, don't waste your time dreaming, because you will never get there.

    Why aren’t you playing the passage in the beginning of the piece with thumb? Jut curious

    • @talhurwitz
      @talhurwitz  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, I explain it in the lesson. The reason is that the notes that are usually being played with the thump on the 4th string, are not the actual bass notes of the chords in the first couple bars. The bass note is actually the open 2nd string (lowest note of the bar). So by not playing with the thumb, I try to avoid an unwanted accent.
