Whoa 😮! Looks like a cool road for a dirt bike, still can’t believe you drive these “roads” in your bus! In all of the other overland videos I’ve watched they’ve had a spotter for the driver, but a vintage bus, solo driver and no spotters is a thousand times more cool. Thanks for doing what you do and sharing the experience with us!
Rich, Google showed paved. LoL, Lies. If you go up there, watch out for the washed-out section halfway up. I had to hit it fast so I would stay on the side of the mountain instead of falling on my side.
I have done Mojave a few times and the camera NEVER does this or any trail for that matter justice! I find it absolutely fascinating that you actually did this trail in that VW Bus!
Jeez! Glad you are ok. My wife and I have been watching your videos for a few weeks now. We like your temperment and laid back attitude. We're from outside of Philly and everyone around here is wound up tight as hell, haha! I like the Coleman stoves and lanterns too that you use and make reference to. Take care my friend and get that awesome '58 salesflap/camper back in action! I own two splittys and would be interested in a video of the repairs. Take care man!
Brother, we all take turns- its just a matter of time...especially when we're out boondocking our 65 year old rigs! Fortunately, you live in the center of VW Mecca of the world- lucky you! Meanwhile, in Alaska, the old HiBearN8R's been out of its winter sleep and we're having a grand time. You inspired me to finish the camper interior and it turned out great. Still running the original split case tranny and its holding up good. Remember, there are no problems in life, just faith -building opportunities...All things work for the good..." See, you made some new friends through adversity. ✌️😊
Hey Tim, I should be able to get it together in a couple of weeks, I'm Freshing up the engine while I wait for the gearbox. If I have any spare time I'll do the interior cargo door panels and cabinets. It's good to hear your camper interior turned out great!😉 Good Times eh!
Oh man! Glad you made it out of there safely! Hope you recover from the digging (boy that can be harder the older you get) and the repairs to the bus are swift and painless!
Thanks, Brother! Hey, I broke in my new shovel! 😅As for the old age thing, The cracks and pops my joints make remind me that I need to get back out on the trail before I can't anymore. More maintenance videos. 😉 58 years old is good 🙏
Hi Larry. I guess it was only a matter of time until a major mechanical problem occurs. We're so glad that you got out of there intact! It's absolutely wonderful to see that there's still some decent carrying people in this crazy world! Still it is amazing that a 1958 V.W. Bus holds up as well as it does! I think some of that is due to your care & attention to running maintenance & service, lets face my friend, when you own a vintage vehicle...., YOU are the warranty!! I gotta' start praying for you on these trips. So next weeks installment gearbox re & re ??
Hello Barry & Bonnie! Thank you! I would say I didn't have the Bus prepped correctly, I take 💯 all of the blame. Yes, I need to get a new gearbox. Something special 😌
Glad you’re safe always help from someone I towed a guy out before called on my aaa got him home that could be real sketchy if farther out for sure forgot subbed a couple weeks ago I’m amazed the places you’re able to go 👍👍👍👍 as always be safe stay humble
Hey, we just came across your channel. Wow that road is Insane. Fair play to get on that road our motorhome would have no chance. We are so glad you got picked up. We enjoyed this video a lot. We have liked and subbed. Chelsea and Mike
Welcome aboard to the both of you. Thanks for watching. It’s was a pretty fun trail while it lasted. I’ll have a couple repair videos before I can get out and hit the trails. Enjoy & Thanks Again! 😊
Glad you made it out fine! That section behind Piute was a big concern of mine in your bus after the last video. When I do this in my bus I'll probably catch the trail off of Lanfair Rd. and just skip that part all together.
Holy crap. That's scary, I always thought you were brave to venture out like that in that old rig by yourself. Makes for great videos but kind of risky. Glad you made it out !! How bad is the damage ?
It was my fault, I let the Bus down. Prep and I took a bad line on the trail. Thanks for caring! The damage is bad. You'll see it in next week's video.
Sounds like a axel shaft breaking. Hummers would do the same thing with CV joints. Lift a wheel and spin it and come crashing down that spinning wheel kills the cv.
@@VintageOverlandAdventures I remember my dad had some friends that tried to talk him into setting up a mobile shop on the beach to repair the buggies, he looked at them and said " I work on VW'S All week and you want me to spend My weekends working on them" needless to say he didn't do it, but he always had transmissions getting dual spider gears and a steel side plate to put up with the strain on the transmission.
You were definitely digging as your life was depending on it. So happy the jeep guys happened by...
Hi Chissy, Thanks for the kind words, Once we made it to Hwy 95 we said our thanks in prayer. 🙏
Glad i was able to give you a tow and get you home
Glad to see someone was there to help you like you helped us!
😊 They refused to leave me on the trail.
Good to know no matter how remote the area, there are people who will help you.
Some Good Folks on the remote trails. Never ran into any problems. 🙂

yup - it looked like a wash more than a trail road.
Such great news! Welcome back Larry✌🏻🚐🌅
Thanks You!
I'm glad that things went as smooth as they did. Your cool headed plan of action served you well. Good job, my brother.
😂 Thanks man! I’ll be back on the trails soon.
Your adventures are so cool, they give sunshine on rainy days.
Thanks Mike! Also a big Thanks 😊 for the support.💰
Oh dang it brother, sorry bout your Trans, butt sure am glad your ok 👍🏽 hope to see you out there again at your best ❤😊
Thanks, Sergio! Oh ya, we'll be out soon. Maybe? 😛
Larry my friend, I'm happy to know that you are well and fine. Hope you can fix the bus gearbox as soon as possible. Hope to see you soon my friend.
Hola! I'll only be down for a couple weeks, I hope. 🙂 We'll campout again!

Thanks for sharing the lows and not just the highs. Even the lows you're able to make the best out of though and see the good in the situation.
Atomic! Thanks you! It's all an adventure if you look at it. Smile and jump into it.
Glad to see you and back on videos good job
Thank You!
Glad your safe! what an epic adventure for the books :)

Thanks my Brother Steve! Humble is Key 🤙
Man that’s rough. I’d definitely figure out a winch situation.
Hey dOdude! A Warn Winch would be nice. Hours to minutes, right! 🙂
@@VintageOverlandAdventures that and some type of anchor would not be a bad idea. Maybe make it removable to move from front to back.
@@Doubleodude Good Tip! I like that, removable. So I don't need to look at it all the time.

Wow Larry, glad you made it outta there alright. Nothing worse than a breakdown far from civilization. Hang tough, brother!

Thanks! I’ll do that also, leave Goffs and back track to where I broke. Most likely this fall when it cools down out there. 🤙🌵

All good, I was about 10 miles out. My plans, to coast down 2/4 miles, than sit and wait for 4 days. Walk out after that.
I'm 1year older than your bus, when we get that old we break quicker than when we were younger 😂
Yes we do, 🤣
i will buy you a sat phone for Christmas !

Oh Yeah! It was loud. The Differential is the weakest point.😉
Probably spider gears, everyone learned about them in the 70's with the turning brakes on buggies at Pismo !
@@donaldbrittsan984 nice to know, almost forgot! LOL!
