This movie makes me miss John Candy even more. He seemed like such a great person, both on and off camera, and nobody ever seems to say a negative word about him. @@your-average-patriot-nerd146 I saw only parts of Wagons East, but not enough to actually judge it. I just go by what most people said and they said it sucked. I haven’t seen Canadian Bacon at all, but it was pretty much the samething with that movie according to public perception as well. And honestly I didn’t care for Delirious… that movie wasn’t one of his bests either.

Me and my dad adored this one for decades so it’s VERY special to me!!!!! It brings a tear to my eyes every time even when it’s not sad. Plus my adopted town of Chicago is featured and one of my least favorite El stops in the Loop area at the end of the flick.
That’s cool! So you’re like Hughes, in having Chicago as your adopted town. Hughes was originally a Michigander (which is why Cameron wears a Red Wings jersey in FBDO), but he clearly fell so much in love with the Windy City.
Michelle & Natalie Besides being famous actor for years, Steve Martin is an accomplished musician. His musical instrument is the banjo. Steve played banjo since he was in his teens. Steve worked at the fame Knott's Berry Farm before becoming famous. Steve's hair was pre-mature gray starting in late 70s to early 80s. His natural hair color was dark brown/black. There are old videos of Steve doing TV in the 60s on here, TH-cam.
The emotional reunion with Neil and his wife comes from some stuff that was cut from the film. In the original cut, she got more and more convinced that Neil was cheating on her... due to a previous incident of infidelity. That's why Neil was in such a hurry to get an early flight. So at the end shes relieved that he was telling the truth.
@@michaelhoward142 I had no idea there was anything cut, but had a similar sense that the reunion was particularly warm; as though he wasn't coming home at all. At the time I had decided it was merely to be the stand-in for what Del had lost, which through him Neal now appreciated more. I didn't think there was anything else to it.
I heard that it was cut that Neil's wife was worried he was having an affair... I did not realize that it was established he had already had one. I'm glad that was cut from the movie. It would have made him a less sympathetic character, even if it raised the stakes of how important it was to get home for Thanksgiving.
31:14 The reaction from Neil’s wife, Susan at the end, is because there was another twist to the story which was cut. Susan did not buy Neil’s explanation that Del Griffith is just some “random annoying guy” that he’s spending all his time with. She was in fact thinking about leaving him as she thought Neil was having an affair with a woman named Del. However at the end she founds out that Del was in fact a guy and Neil was telling the truth. But even though that storyline was left out of the movie they kept her emotional reaction when Neil comes home (...with Del).

I really like hearing your takes on movies I have seen multiple times. I await your responses to certain scenes. I miss John Candy a lot. When he died Steve stayed with Candy's family while they were grieving. The following year, in 1988 he made "Dirty, Rotten, Scoundrels." It is hilarious. Constant laughter is guaranteed.
I loved John Candy and miss him very much. I've seen most of his movies and watching this movie is a regular feature during the Thanksgiving holiday for me. I read that Steve Martin mentioned that he and John Candy became very close during the filming and were always cracking each other up. But what makes me sad and tear up at the end of this movie every time was remembering that in addition to becoming close friends with John, Steve Martin said he felt there was a lot of loneliness in John and that there wasn't a lot of distance between the character Del Griffith and John Candy. RIP John Candy...you are greatly loved and missed.
There's a end of credit scene of William Windom still looking at pictures back in New York, with leftover food on his desk. It doesn't make it on some cuts, however.
Another classic 80's film. Love Martin and Candy in this. Fun, and yes, sentimental holiday film. 1 of those movies halfway through you're like, Why is this rated R, then the classic car rental scene haha. I watch it at least once a year around holiday season. Have to say, your outfits are very festive/fall, and you watching this a couple days before Thanksgiving was perfect :)
I saw this in the theatre, Nov/87. I fell in love with John Candy and Steve Martin back in the Mid-70s. Right at the start Steve with his stand-up and hosting SNL and John with SCTV. I loved SNL(75-80) and SCTV! But I loved SCTV more. Comedy was the best from 1975-1985. You had the best comedy troops, Monty Python, SNL, SCTV. Most members of these troops would become Movie-Stars over the next decade. The best Stand-Up Comedians of all time Richard Pryor, George Carlin, Steve Martin, Eddie Murphy, Robin Williams, Rodney Dangerfield.
I was an unspottable extra in this movie. The scene I was in was at the bus station where the three girls buy the shower curtain hooks as earrings. I've watched this movie many times and I cannot see any trace of me. I probably just didn't make the big show, and ended up on the cutting room floor. I understand they shot A LOT more footage than they used. RIP John Candy
I saw this movie in the theater when it was released with my brother and a cousin. I must have been 16 or 17, the whole theater burst with laughter at the rental car receptionist scene.
I liked watching the movie with you. Haven't seen it in a while. I think it's a great movie, as a comedy but also a tear-jerker. Unique combination. I like both actors/comedians a lot and feel that, for each, this is their best movie.
This has become a holiday classic and I watch it every year. Just like in Uncle Buck, John Candy is so sincere and unpretentious he makes us see the folly of our own nature- superficial, self-absorbed, impatient, intolerant, prejudging etc.. Of course, Steve Martin, another great comedic actor, plays his role perfectly and is the ideal foil for John Candy to play off of. Together it's a perfect combination with a message that hits home. We miss you John Candy!
Great reaction from the girls glad you enjoyed it. *Red* said "he can't help but think of good times." Agree when you remember awkward frustrating stressful times you tend to look back on them fondly
So glad you two enjoyed this one! It is a Hughes classic and Martin and Candy were just brilliant together. This started out as a holiday film for me but has turned into, when I need a good laugh I watch it again. I want to say this is my favourite John Candy performance, but that is reserved for another Hughes classic, Uncle Buck! Can't remember if you two have seen that one, if not please consider adding it to your list, and since I am on a Candy roll, I think you would love Cool Running as well!
Cool Runnings was a good movie, unfortunately it aged pretty badly. It’s not really remembered or cherished as much as this movie or the Great Outdoors or Uncle Buck are
OMG! I just realized (after seeing this movie dozens of times) that the guy sitting in the board room with Steve Martin is the father from Ferris Bueller's Day Off, which is another John Hughes movie! Makes me wonder if they are both from Chicago and that is supposed to actually be Ferris' dad??
Classic movie and so funny. I can say that the thing were the driver gets his hands stuck on the drivers seat handles ACTUALLY HAPPENED TO ME🤣I wasnt driving but was sitting behind the guy who was and he first got right hand stuck asked me to help with it then got his left hand stuck. The guy in the front passangers seat panicked , grabbed the wheel and lucky we made it to the side of the road. So this must have happened to others if it made it to a movie scene. Im a train Engineer and i can assure you trains do not break like that, but its a great movie. Enjoyed your reactions
Back when my grandpa was still alive he was over at my dad's house visiting. We decided to put this movie on. I need to mention grandpa had emphysema as well. When a person has that condition they cough up a lot of phleghm when they laugh. Well, this movie made my grandpa laugh so hard we had to take him to the emergency room.
I've seen multiple reactors watch this, and y'all are the first ones to laugh at the Chatty Cathy doll part. We used to watch this at my grandparents' house with my mom, dad, brother, cousins, aunts, and uncles, and we were cracking up at that part (and the whole movie). I've been disappointed that so many reactors are poisoned by political correctness and sensitivity training to the point that they've been trained to not laugh. It was so refreshing to see y'all enjoying the *comedy* in a *comedy* movie. Thanks for the great reaction!
I’ve watched reactions to it three days in a row now and laughed just as hard each time. I watch reactions to it all year! 😂😂😂 Kudos to you both! My first time ever watching you. You’ve never come up in my feed before - it had to be the movie, although I watch reactions to LOTR and Harry Potter a lot too!
Loved all of the John Hughes movies that were made in and around Chicago. "Adventures in Babysitting" is one I recommend also along with all the brat pack movies such as "The Breakfast Club"
That's something that John Hughes did in all of his late 80's movies... They start out as comedy dramas and at the tail end a lot of poignant emotions/turmoil is revealed.
I know that elevated train platform well in Chicago that they were on at the end of the movie. Took the train downtown to school from there as a stop and also as the train to go home from school when in college.
All of the films written or directed by John Hughes are classics, some more than others, of course. This is one of those classics written and directed by John. Now you'll have to watch his other films as well. BTW, the rental car used toward the end that burns up was fashioned to look like the one driven by the Griswold family in the Hughes classic, "Vacation", and the snow-covered home at the end was the same one used in "Home Alone", which was written by Hughes.
As someone who's seen this movie many times over the years it's nice to see the enjoyment you had watching this for the first time. It helped the jokes land again and appreciate how funny this was the first time I watched it. Glad you enjoyed it.
Del reading his book by lighter light always cracks me up. He’s trying to be considerate but the noise of the lighter in a silent room in the complete opposite of considerate 😂
You know what’s ironic… the scene in the hotel when Martin’s character snaps and he gets out of bed, Del accuses him of being an intruder but Del was the one intruding in his life… not that he meant to
For Christmas you need to watch A Christmas Story if you’ve never seen it. I watch or least have on in the background the marathon every year. It was the first VHS tape I bought.
John Candy. Hearing about him and John Belushi being serious monsters of having Wild times?? This movie and ' Uncle Buck ' plus Belushi's ' Animal House ' will always give me flash backs to the 80's ... This film has not aged and Michelle and Natalie, A Thank You for laughing and smiling with me. Cheer's Gorgeous Ladies.xx 🇬🇧. Edit is this - Suggestion:: A religious and Christmas movie is ' Exorcist 3 ' you'll love it.xx
I wish people would stop comparing John Candy to John Belushi and Chris Farley… Candy was nothing like those 2! Candy was actually a respectable actor, Belushi and Farley weren’t. I think it’s very shallow that you compare them all just because they were all “overweight”
Enjoying your reactions. Two other John Candy movies i recommend are Uncle Buck and The Great Outdoors. Another Thanksgiving movie to recommend is Dutch with Ed O'Neill.
"We'd have a better chance of playing pick-up-sticks with our butt-cheeks." Who knew John Candy was a poet. He paints with words you can vividly visualize.
Many scenes were cut from this movie. In the original script Neil's wife suspected Neil was cheating on her with another woman, due to the unbelievable story given by Neil. This is why she was so emotional at the end, knowing he was telling the truth. Also the thief who robbed them, was the pizza delivery guy, who Dell did not tip. He came back and robbed them.
Out of all the video I have watched on this channel two things remain true. 1. Michelle with 2 Ls, is absolutely , drop dead gorgeous. Where can I put in my application? 2. They remind me of Romy and Michelle. Not in a bad way whatsoever. Love the reactions!
Excellent choice for the holiday ladies. It's hard not to tear up at the end when Neil realizes Dell's situation and invites him home. To this day, that scene where they go between the semi trucks has me rolling and the scene at the rental car counter. I always thought that Neil's wife's reaction was odd but later I found out that there is a whole subplot that was left out of the final cut. Neil has been spending a lot of time away from home and his wife thinks that he might be cheating. She thinks that he is lying about why he isn't home. When he finally makes it home and she realizes that Dell is real and he has been honest with her, she is so relieved. There's other stuff that was cut. There's a scene where we get to see the beer cans explode on the vibrating bed, you see Dell get a pizza delivered and go into Neil's wallet and, the pizza kid is the one that robs them. Happy Thanksgiving.
@Ianlawn9836 No, it's a bittersweet ending, yes Del's wife is deceased but that was a sad twist not the ending of the film, the ending was him presumably becoming a friend of Neals family, don't be so pessimistic, a better runner up for your description would be "The Green Mile" (1999).
Another Steve Martin film to see is Dirty Rotten Scoundrels where he appears opposite Michael Caine as a pair of con men joining up to fleece rich widows in the South of France. Expect to see Lady Fanny of Omaha and Ruprecht amongst others.
Some John Hughes movies are very sentimental 🥲 I like the way you react without talking constantly over the movie .. This is the first time I've seen your channel ☺🌺

The guy in the front passangers seat panicked , grabbed the wheel and lucky we made it to the side of the road. So this must have happened to others if it made it to a movie scene. Im a train Engineer and i can assure you trains do not break like that, but its a great movie. Enjoyed your reactions
Thank you!!
John Candy was funny, Steve Martin is funny too, funny comedy movie, good review from you girls 👍😎👌
Salut from Cannes. The french title of this movie is " Un Ticket Pour Deux". Bye tout le monde.
Love this movie my favorite movie of all time I loved John Candy he was my favorite comedian
Thank you!!
I’ve watched reactions to it three days in a row now and laughed just as hard each time.
I watch reactions to it all year! 😂😂😂
Kudos to you both! My first time ever watching you. You’ve never come up in my feed before - it had to be the movie, although I watch reactions to LOTR and Harry Potter a lot too!
Hope you subscribe and watch more!
Loved all of the John Hughes movies that were made in and around Chicago. "Adventures in Babysitting" is one I recommend also along with all the brat pack movies such as "The Breakfast Club"
Weird that Planes/Trains is pretty much timeless, while Adventures in Babysitting is very 80's and doesn't work anywhere near as well.
Can I go out with the 2 of you, no strings attached. You 2are a blast..
Great movie. Glad you liked it. RIP John. Happy Thanksgiving to the both of you.
Happy Thanksgiving!!
All the gags are spot on - then when we get the bombshell that Del is a grieving, homeless, widow the film gets elevated to greatness.
It was touching!
That's something that John Hughes did in all of his late 80's movies... They start out as comedy dramas and at the tail end a lot of poignant emotions/turmoil is revealed.
We all love ❤️ & miss you 😔 John Candy/John Hughes
Thank you Chris!
I'm sure we've all ran into that person like John Candy's character at some point in our lives. Drives you absolutely nuts. 😆
Del reading his book by lighter light always cracks me up. He’s trying to be considerate but the noise of the lighter in a silent room in the complete opposite of considerate 😂
😂😂
You know what’s ironic… the scene in the hotel when Martin’s character snaps and he gets out of bed, Del accuses him of being an intruder but Del was the one intruding in his life… not that he meant to
Not to mention, dangerous.
Notice the train station is shot to make it look as though it's a church and Candy is sitting in a church pew as he gives his confession.
For Christmas you need to watch A Christmas Story if you’ve never seen it. I watch or least have on in the background the marathon every year. It was the first VHS tape I bought.
Seen it!
These 2 ladies are so gorgeous. But they look like they could be sisters also. Love the reactions also, very entertaining.
We are:) thanks!
@@ForceOfLightEntertainment Both VERY beautiful, that red head is FIRE!
Great Xmas and thanksgiving movie…watch, eat, and pass out 😅
I love this film so much. Such a joy to watch it with you.
"How do you end this?" lol, heart breaking in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1......
Enjoying your reactions. Two other John Candy movies i recommend are Uncle Buck and The Great Outdoors. Another Thanksgiving movie to recommend is Dutch with Ed O'Neill.
Thank you!
Loved seeing this movie again with you ladies. Very fun reaction
Thank you!!
I never saw this movie until like maybe 3 or 4 years ago and I was mad at myself because I didn’t see it sooner because it’s such a great movie
Force Of Light Entertainment Ironically after this I got a notification for "Dasha Reacts" reacting to "Die Hard 2" which involves airplanes🤣
I've always wondered if del broke the train down 😂
"We'd have a better chance of playing pick-up-sticks with our butt-cheeks."
Who knew John Candy was a poet.
Faux wood paneling on cars is the height of automotive beauty.
Another movie that is also considered a Thanksgiving movie is Grumpy Old Men since most of the movie takes place from mid November to Christmas
Damn it, I cried watching the reaction. One of the few movies that always get me at the end.
Thanks for the reaction.
One of the best comedies ever. TOTAL "guy" movie- but it is so incredible, even women have to laugh too
another great thanksgiving road trip john hughes movie is Dutch. both are very heartfelt holiday classics in different yet similar ways.
If you guys haven't seen it yet, Trading Places is also one from the eighties that takes place during this time of year.
We need to watch that! Thanks!
Perfectly timed and such a fun movie to watch!
Girls! 4 5 hoots?...... Pa-Leeze!
It might go up after a second watch but that’s pretty dang good! 😁
Such a great movie.
Another Thanksgiving movie, written and produced by John Hughes, is Dutch, starring Ed O'Neill.
Out of all the video I have watched on this channel two things remain true.
1. Michelle with 2 Ls, is absolutely , drop dead gorgeous. Where can I put in my application?
2. They remind me of Romy and Michelle. Not in a bad way whatsoever.
Love the reactions!
Thank you!!
laughter IS an emotion!
The Heavenly kid , 80s classic comedy , my fav of all time , plz
It was a very touching end scene! Happy Thanksgiving!!
Thank god they left that out. That doesn't make any more sense. It makes less sense.
One of the greatest saddest endings in movie history.
That rental car scene was lit. 💀🔥🔥🔥😈
😂😂
Some John Hughes movies are very sentimental 🥲 I like the way you react without talking constantly over the movie .. This is the first time I've seen your channel ☺🌺
Thank you! ❤️
It’s not Thanksgiving until Steve Invites John home.
John candy was an incredible actor
This movie is traditionally known as a "Holiday Movie" or a "Thanksgiving Movie". Before cell phones and internet and needing to be at the airport 2 hours early.
