I was doing very similar 40 years ago, only stack patches 1st patch dry, then wet patch, then dry, you get the picture, worked wonderful and they fit perfectly in a 35 mm film containers!

I cut at the muzzle, so I do strips. I’ll put an unrolled strip into a plastic bag, add my chosen lube, and microwave it. Pull it out, mush it around and check if it needs more. They come out pretty even. After a while you get a feel for how much you need. Nice video though.
I do something similar. I use a hot plate. I don’t cut round patches but strips and put the strips in the tin, put a blob of lube on the top and heat it with the hot plate and leave it there until the lube soaked the strips. I cut the patches at the muzzle. Works fine for the past 40 years of shooting flintlocks.
You can do the same thing with a paper plate and the microwave. I lay out my dry patches and put a couple tablespoons of whatever lube you want to use, (I use Bore Butter), onto the paper plate then nuke it till the lube melts. After the patches get good and soaked you can squeeze out the excess lube from the patch. I store my lubed patches in an oversized empty pill container and use a small screwdriver to remove them from the container when ready to shoot. Of course that isn't old school, but it works great, is quick no mess, and it keeps your patches ready to go as needed.
I use a scented wax melter, just sit my pellet tin of homemade patch lube on it. I lube my strips of pillow ticking, then drag between my fingers to remove excess lube. After lube has cooled I use my homemade patch cutter to cut my patches.
I tried to use Balistol for a while. At a club woods walk I could not keep my gun shooting! It was a total mess. I finally just gave up for the day. Next time I just used saliva... twenty shots and all was well. I don't know what I did wrong but I've not used anything but saliva since and had no problems. Not been shooting muzzle loaders very long so I'm still learning this black powder stuff.

Seamsters and Seamstresses have a tool for cutting perfect circles in cloth. I- know they aren't super expensive and generally pretty easy to transport and no, i don't remember what they are called... but its sewing so they probably call it a fabric circle cutter. I don't mean the die presses for shape cutting either. They make relatively small tools for cutting perfect circles. Anyway, did another old guy ramble there. What I'm saying is, that might be worth looking into because my scissor hand is garbage.
I make and use Gato Feo #1 lube exclusively. I've had more than 50 accurate shots on targets to 75 yards without the need for ever swabbing the bore for .45 and .54 bore rifles (.440 and .530 balls, red stripe pillow ticking). Gato Feo ("ugly cat") is a blend (by weight) of 1part mutton tallow (Dixie Gun Works), 1 part canning wax (Gulf), and 1/2 part pure filtered bees wax. I mix up 1lb/4ozs (by ounce weight, 8/8/4) in a large Ball canning jar done up double boiler style. Stir a bit to get it all blended, pour into a large milk/juice carton and allow to solidify. I cut off 1/4 chunk and put into the Ball jar and double boil til it's remelted. I cut up pillow ticking into 18" long patch strips (whatever strip widths float yer boat), roll them up, dunk into the lube, allow to sit there for a few seconds, pull out with tongs and allow the excess to drip back into the jar (and/or take 2 lengths of wood dowel and pull the saturated strips through them, with the excess dripping back into the jar). I hang off clothes pins or lay down the patch strips to harden, which takes less than a minute. The strips are over saturated which is the key to keeping the tube clean and easy for reloading. Roll up the strips to use for cutting off at the muzzle or cut the strips up as square patches or use a strip to fill up a ball board or two. It's all good, whatever works best is best. Life's short, have fun!
Appears to be jojoba oil. Hardens yellow like that. Should work fine For patch lube. All vegetable no, animal fats to go rancid. I use olive oil or coconut oil myself. Thanks for the video. John Davis Jax fl
As the maker of this lube, I can say, you are incorrect. Jojoba oil comes very sticky when it dries, therefore, making a terrible lubricant. The yellow is a natural dye to add some color to the lube so I know it has the bear oil in it, vs the non bear oil based lubricant. This lube does in fact contain a large amount of bear oil to keep the lube softer in cold weather.

How do you cut patches? I tried a punch, with so so success.

I like to use spit too, works great. I find though if I'm filming I'm talking so much that I can't make any spit so it gets hard, LOL
