The Mia holding rose mode has a weird line down the back of her neck. Like a seam of skin. I don’t know if it was a design oversight bc those models are really detailed. Or if the devs were like here’s Miranda in the Mia suit.

I have a guess as to a possible storyline for the next RE: The game starts with the player taking control of a BSAA agent (either someone known like Sheba or a totally new character). They are first seen chatting with some group of coworkers about Chris being a no show and some guy starts talking about rumours about Chris and the top brass being at odds for some reason after the whole Winters incident. PC tries to get more info but they miss the chance as they are getting called to some emergency meeting. PC finds out that they are going to be sent with a strike force headed to some abandoned town that has been getting lots of reports of BOW activity. The player character notes that most of those going opted to wear full face masks and are strangely quite for the briefing and the whole trip. Getting towards the town, the PC finds it strangely full of people and as the camera shows the townspeople players begins to notice that they recognize some of them. People from RE 7 and 8 seemingly acting like things are normal, mingling and what not. The PC is confused by what they see but the leader of the strike force states that these are just monsters in disguise and orders the assault to begin. Most of those in town flees but some stay and fight and it's shortly found out that these people are able to tank gunfire for some time. As some sort of alarm starts to blare, mold monsters and lycans alike start showing up and attacks the BSAA people. By this point the PC starts to notice something, soldiers who suffered grievous wounds are somehow able to get back up and keep fighting. Unfortunately, the intensity of the battle prevents the PC from looking into this more. The townspeople and monsters are pushed back with some of the bosses from the past games showing up again to try and beat back the invading soldiers but fail. But during these boss battles, the PC witnesses something that worries him, BSAA soldiers turning into T virus, G Virus, and Plaga type monsters and even boss ones and after a big battle, those townspeople left are forced to run away. PC is horrified by what he saw and the leader approaches him and starts a spiel about "ends justifying the means and fighting fire with fire". PC protests this and is subsequently detained with the leader saying something about the PC understanding after they "get the full picture" or something. PC wakes up restrained feeling the transport they're suddenly stop and shortly followed by the sound of gunfire, and even some roars and growls. Those guarding the PC move to exit the transport but are gunned down and in comes members of the Hound Wolf Squad saying that they are bailing the PC. PC is lead to some camp were they are finally filled in as to what's going on. It seems that the BSAA got drunk with power and seeing how effective BOWs were, started using them in it's operations covertly. They saw Rose and her power and wanted it for themselves and with Rose's Megamycyte given knowledge and powers caught on she bailed but as she knows the BSAA will hunt her down she decided to use the full breathe of her powers to fortify an abandoned town to defend herself. When the PC asked about what happened to Chris, it was revealed to them that Chris was almost assassinated and is now in a coma. There has been talks about using the mold to heal him but everyone involved wasn't sure he'd like that so they are simply caring for him atm. .... And that's were I ran out of ideas. Anyways that's my rough take for the possible start till midpoint for RE 9.
I feel like Miranda did "die" when she went into that cave. She was consumed by the megamycete, this being its first contact with a living being proper turned her into a conduit and director of the megamycete. Ethan is special and I don't think Mia was referring to him being Mold ether. Both her and Ethan are now Mold creatures as both died all those years ago. She is referring to whatever made him be free of Evelines direct mind control like she could do to the others. It is possible that there is something else about Ethan that makes him special we haven't been told yet and while we are told his story is done, that thread hangs because it is key to Rose's special power that "even Miranda is afraid of". Some thoughts could be that Rose is actually an inheritor of the Megamycete, chosen by the Megamycete over all others to be the new "queen" of it (what role do we give the leader of a fungus?). I will point out that during the ceremony Miranda believes she revived Eva but it was instead Rose, she even calls her Rose before we have Carcinogen put her down, no damage style. Her loss of power being that Rose is now actively taking control and she only regains control when merged with Rose. It is important to remember also that Miranda only inspired Oswald Spencer, she had nothing to do with the progenitor virus. Her goal was entirely for herself while Oswald...well he got a bit weird with it and then got merced. An important note about Rose is she is a Child of mold. As in...Mia and Ethan both being Mold creatures managed to sire an offspring, despite being mold replacements, through and through (as eveline said, his whole body is mold and his crumbling at the end in reality confirms this). This is significant as with Miranda being the first living being to touch mold (the megamycete), Rose is the first creature to be born of Mold proper, a life truly brought into the world via this being that has so far only ever copied and stored minds and beings. Lots of questions to ask but certainly the biggest brain moment was how they made "welcome to the family son" far more meaningful than we ever expected.
Mind-Blowing theory there. I feel like Rose is gonna be one of the most powerful beings in the Resident Evil Series. It's like she knows she's Invincible, Indestructible, & has an almost endless amounts of Power, that's why she said to the guy in black suit after calling her Eveline "I can show you things even Chris doesn't know i can do".
I think Eveline aged rapidly because of how she was genetically engineered, it is mentioned in one of the files from RE7 that she needed medicine to prevent rapid aging.
they used the “got a lot of tests coming up” to make the player think she is going to high school, but then says “speaking of the devil,” which confirms the tests are bsaa. Not to mention that the gravestone looks too damn well maintained for something to be at least 15 years old. While one might argue that it is a model issue, I like to think that capcom wouldn’t leave out a detail like that. - as for the mold being dead or alive, Miranda saying that “her powers are leaving her” probably suggests that her powers are transfered, even before Ethan got to kill her, which might mean that the megamycete could be in rose now
In that case, Rose could be the next Mother Miranda? Putting aside all the bs Miranda did of course. So this could put forward that the Megamycete might be an entity that develops itself to those who are made for it? 👁️👄👁️
@Calvin Tijares What made older RE games scary were the controls, claustrophobic spaces, and plenty of camera angles that hid things just off screen. The much less forgiving inventory management also made your resources more precious and your saves were limited to how many ink ribbons you could find. Trying to dismiss all that by calling them "boomers" just shows how little you know.
I can't help but feel like the Megamycete used Miranda as simply a vessel to help spread it around. All creatures have the most basic desire to multiply. And it looks like it succeeded. As it was able to spread to America to the Baker residence. I can't help but wonder if Miranda really stumbled into the Megamycete or was she guided toward it in her most vulnerable state.
That is giving this entity a lot of agency and power....if it wanted to just multiply I feel like it would find a better host than Miranda who really just wanted to bring back her daughter, not infect the entire world (unlike Oswell)

This is all hinging on the fact that the Megamycete has its own consciousness of course, but my running theory after having run this shitshow on Village of Shadows mode is that the mold and Miranda are one, with the simultaneous goals of resurrecting a child and spreading as much as possible from the location of resurrection. It’s specific, but so is the process of resurrecting a dead child from mold😅
Fun fact: if Rose indeed having accelerate aging, doesn't it mean the ending cutscene is just a few year after. If it does, it's mean we can still see Mr. boulder-punching-a****le again

11:56 Throwing the food wasn't just Lucas being childish. He'd been freed from Eveline's control by The Connections but given something that allowed him to keep his mould powers. Eating Marguerite's food would have infected him again so he threw the food to get out of it.

Megamicete was a core, absorbing conscience, controlling mold. Eveline was a second core, linked with the Megamicete but not bound to it. Rose might be the third Ethan was part of Eveline not the megamicete, that’s why she can’t control him
Man... poor Bakers... the way Jack speaks in that cutscene is like his consciousness is trapped in mold-infected former body of his witnessing everything but not being able to do anything. Bakers truly were the real victims
I mean, in one of the DLC segments in RE7, seeing the family before they were infected, it was surreal. These people who were chasing Ethan, mutating and trying to kill him, were just regular people. They took Eveline in because the hurricane was out there and they were just trying to help her.
When Rose came out to Miranda at the end, she said she lost her powers. May be she absorbed her power? And when Ethan grabbed her after Miranda died he then began to deteriorate. Rose probably absorbing his powers as well. Because Ethan let’s her go, he’s able to regenerate himself after the explosion and we see him in the end
With some help from the Duke, probably. That guy has to have powers! Major tin-foil hat, but, could Duke have a Cadou as well? There is no way Mother Miranda would have allowed him to gain vast power, connections, and resources that he has! Or he benefits her, so that's why?
13:50 THAT is exactly what went through my head. I bet Rose is carrying him around in her head. It all clicked for me when the agent sat “Your a lot like him, you know?” And Rose coyly smiles saying “I know…” My jaw dropped because I though to myself “I bet she sees her dad daily in her mind because he’s part of the hive mind and I bet Rose is carrying it.” It leave a really cool possibility for RE9. Ethan could still talk to his daughter maybe throughout the game. Cool!
That'd be really sweet if she's able to have that connection. In all honestly if I was Ethan I think at that point I would've given up and decided having a family isn't in the cards for me. He's better than me ig because after all that I would've been way too out of it.
Honestly the whole consciousness thing makes me wonder if Ethan actually was talking to Jack Baker in RE7's dream sequence. I kinda like that thought, Ethan conversing with and actually understanding the Bakers' predicament, with Jack getting a chance to give his own words without Evelyn's influence.
Do you think the molded will return in re9 and maybe the BSAA get their hands on a small sample of it after the explosion in the village 🤔 and that is how they create these new clone bioweapons since re9 is going to be the final game in the trilogy.
I do wonder since Ethan was inside the megamycete was he really talking to Jack or was it the megamycete itself telling Ethan the truth about Eveline 🤔 another think I was wondering if the megamycete was found underneath the village in the caves how long was it down there 🤔 and I also think the megamycete was using Miranda to find a host so it could survive so that is probably why at the end when Ethan fights Miranda she is weakened the megamycete probably removed itself from her and transferred to rosemary winters. So Miranda thought she was controlling the megamycete but in reality it was the megamycete or the mold that was controlling her and made her find it a new host or vessel.
please correct me if i'm wrong, but I think Eveline ages quickly because she is a clone.. this happens because clones are typically made from cells that have already divided many times... Rose however is not a clone, and to further prove this, she was 6 months old at the start of the game.. in 6 months, Eveline would have probably looked like a 12 year old, but Rose was still an infant
I wonder where Las Plagas settles in all this. Also, remember the concept battle some people have shown between Berkin and Nemesis? I can totally see such a thing with Miranda and Sadler.

Could make it like Dead Space or Chrono Trigger where the origin of all these mutagens is of extraterrestrial or even extra dimensional origin. Although I prefer the interpretation similar to Parasite Eve, where a hivemind I'd call the 'Resident Evil' was the very first lifeform prior to being overthrown by modern lifeforms and all the mutations are different methods this ancient dark ecosystem is using to regain control over life.
it could be that Eveline was the start of a new megamycete root. Ethan was made of this new root. Attempts to combine Rose in the old one may have caused an issue of the collective consciousness destabilizing as both connected, hence why Miranda was weakened. Rose, becomes the heart of a new root with both collections together.
I kind of have a feeling that the Mold and the Megamycete acts similarly to Octopi and Starfish, in one respect. The main source/core (the Megamycete) is the central hub of course or a data storage network as it was described. But it is also a spread intelligence, similar to how Octopi and Squids have a spread neural system across their full bodies, allowing their limbs to act on their own independently. With the starfish example, similar, but should the core/main body and limb be separated, it isn't the end. A starfish can regrow a limb that was cut off, but the limb can also regrow the main body should it survive. I believe that is how the Megamycete and the Mold can survive, so long as a source exists.
I am pretty sure Ethan was infected before he reached the Baker property. That is why Eveline cannot control him, why he is special and why Marguerite and Jack push him to eat in the begining of 7. There were A through E types of the mold strain and possibly more and they each effected eachother differently when crossed. I also believe that the Bakers used only living specimens to create the mold monsters, per 'The Tragedy of Ethan Winters' content in 8. That is why Clancy Jarvis and Anton from 'The Sewer Gators' never became mold monsters; they were already dead. Also, what happened to Joe Baker!?
If the little note in RE5 does end up being connected to THIS Ethan than maybe him being a wesker wouldve made him a little immune to it? Maybe he adapted it into his own DNA and thags why he didn't realize he died like 5 times
When you pay close attention you see eveline and miranda have a few things in common like both want a family, both have used manipulation and killed people and have great control over the mold
7:22 HCF helped Miranda and The Connections create Eveline. HCF is the group Wesker used to attack Rockfort Island in Code Veronica looking for Alexia Ashford causing the T-Virus outbreak there. Only for Wesker to find out that the "Alexia" on Rockfort was actually Alfred who after Alexia had gone into cryosleep for 15 years so her body could adapt to the T-Veronica Virus Alfred had gone mad with loneliness and developed a split personality based on Alexia where he'd go up to his private house, put on one of her dresses and a wig and talk to himself in both their voices. Chris eventually killed Alexia but Wesker still got T-Veronica from Steve Burnside's body who Alexia had experimented on.
HCF is actually a paramilitary group of the Connections that was led by Wesker so technically it was still the Connections and Miranda who created Eveline. No indications as of yet if Wesker was involved but it is apparent someone else took leadership when Wesker “left” (probably for Tricell). HCF probably was tasked in handling and dealing with the A to E series creations and experiments
After hearing that, I thought and realized something You said that the Megamycete is in Rose, but what if it decided to use Ethan? He was closer, and it would be easier to conceal itself until it could grow back. True, Rose has some unknown powers, and that begs what abilities. Maybe she has a hybrid of most, if not all the bosses. Super strength, rapid healing, transformation, mold manipulation, psychological manipulation, and magnetic distortion. Her age, though, could be a side effect. It may have some of Eveline's super growth, but when you said it might have not been actually 25 years, it might have really been that long, but she is subconsciously aging slower, rather than faster. The Megamycete is still there, either completely in or mostly a part of Rose, but if that little bit at the end with Ethan is any indicator, maybe he lives in her mind or in life, to guide Rose in her ability
Regarding Ethan being able to retain his self-control, there are 2 theories, depending on how much agency you want to give him as a character: 1) Ethan is special and is actually able to simply retain his will within the mold - that explains why Eveline wasn't able to control him. It is stated that there are people just naturally resistant to mold mind control (Mia retained some sense of self for three years while being held captive) 2) Ethan can't be controlled by Miranda because he is being controlled by Rose, who was established to be more powerful. The whole RE VIII is nothing but Ethan following Rose's command to rescue her.
My own theory is that the mold is able to give the people it infects, (that are compatable with it,) the abilities in accordance to help them achieve what the seek the most. Ethan wanted to save his family no matter what. He had a strong will from the very start and was different than the others so the mold decided to give him the abilities to achieve that. I'll list out his abilities first, ability to avoid mind control to a super natural ability, beyond advanced understanding of weapons and weapon creation, super human regenerative abilities, super human endurance, super human reflexes (dependent in the person who's playing as him in the game,) resistance to pain, advance avoidance of those infected that have super human senses (also determine of those who play as him,) ability to see into the memories of others, and an advance understandment of combat that rivals seasoned veterans. All of which is granted to him specifically to be able to regain his family. He's able to avoid the almost impossible mind control and manipulation that not even the Miramda can, he was unable to be manipulated into doing what the mold yearned for, the 4 lords couldn't avoid the mind control of Mother Miranda no matter how hard they tried but it wasn't even a problem for Ethan. He was able to see into Rose's memories to understand what was going on as well as the Bakers memories and mind. He could see into the mind of Eva to a lesser extent even though she certainly did not want it. It makes absolutely no sense that those Lycans couldn't sniff him out completely when this man should've reeked of filth when the other villagers were easily spotted. Mother Miranada was able to access all that information because it's what she needed to bring back her daughter, she's being mind controlled into spreading the mold and she doesn't even realize it. Ethan is also gifted the knowledge on how to beat the asses of "people," who should be invincible. But it still makes very little sense to me because, why him? Mother Miranda I understand, but Ethan is special and it's not because he's the main character lol. Sorry this is so long
Man I have to admit. RE pulled some crazy ish out of their a** this time. Tying the entire series back to a giant primordial fetus probably of alien origin. I don’t know. Who knows what we’ll be facing in 9. Maybe the Megamycete is product of Medieval alchemy and we’ll get to kill Dracula in a flashback next time around. I love this series; since 99.
It's not actually that crazy considering how over the top the series has been. The old idea for Resident Evil 4 was for Ozwell Spencer to be a centuries-old immortal vampire who got his powers from the tomb of an ancient king whose undead followers are still alive, and his cloned sons would have had superhuman abilities just like Wesker because they were 'perfected Progenitors'. This idea ended up becoming Devil May Cry, but we still see traces of the 'ancient superhuman civilization' throughout 4, 5, and even 6.

I like that the megamycete opens up more doors for the games in the future. Someone could have put that strain of it in the cave. There could be more around the world, or a main home where they actually came from.
This makes me wonder if the megamycete was underneath the village in that cave what about that cave full of crystals in the stronghold area of the game could that have been another megamycete route like a giant flower 🌼
There is a simple possible explanation. Ethan was infected, and became a new "Root". It would explain why he couldn't be controlled very well, his ridiculous durability, and his lack of apparent negative side effects. Rose like Ethan could be a "Root" but one not tainted by the "shoots". Which would make her stronger and more capable of manipulating the mold. I do like the idea that it's only been a few years.
You presume that Miranda is unaffected by the hive-mind, honestly her character development after contacting the mold isn't any different from the Bakers, assuming she wasn't the homicidal, turn entire town into test subjects, kind of scientist she is now. Even though she has freedom of mind to pursue her daughter, its through the means that ultimately benefit the collection of data into the megamycete. You'd think after the 20th lycan she'd consider not using such similar subjects, or especially after Heisenberg and Alcina did so well as foreigners. She even ruled Eveline out despite her strain of the mold being what ultimately made Rose her perfect candidate. I'd say her mind was greatly affected by the megamycete.
I think there's a definite implication that the 'Resident Evils' (Progenitor, Plaga, Megamycete) in this series manipulate and corrupt even their seemingly lucid hosts.
I still don't get how if Ethan died in RE7 that he was somehow immune from Eveline's mind control; since by the end of the game he clearly begins to display the supposedly "early" symptoms of Mold infection (seeing the Eveline hallucinations, etc). Honestly the obvious answer is that Ethan "always being dead" is just a retcon.
Mabye just like how Mia was sometimes normal and then would randomly snap and be under Evilines control mabye Ethan is the same way except we dont see it or another normal person wasn't around him long enough for it to occur
@@jeambeam3173 It was implied that in RE7 that Eveline was treating Mia differently than the rest of the Bakers because she was Eveline's "favorite", which even people like Lucas noted. Maybe it's just me but I always assumed that because Mia was Eveline's "mother" she was never fully infected like the rest of the Bakers.
I don't think Ethan was supposed to be dead that game. Just lightly infected. Kept around to be a dad. Not dead. I feel like they changed that for this game to have a dramatic twist in the last act
It could be because she is getting weaker due to the advanced aging. If you take into account how long it takes her to effect the Bakers, and then compare how long until Ethan starts to see the symptoms. You can sort of see just how lucky Ethan actually got.
It's an unnecessary retcon that creates more plot holes in its attempt to explain something that already had an explanation. In this case, we could already infer that Ethan was in the early stages of infection and he had a low-grade version of the healing factor the other Bakers had. RE8's 'twist' just baffles me since we're supposed to assume immediately afterwards that Ethan 'permanently' dies.
I really feel bad for Jack. He was only a ex-marine, family man. I'm sure he would've lived a long, fulfilling life along with his family if Eveline didn't show up in the bayou.
For some reason I feel that instead of rose aging agressively to be old, that she may well be able to also stop the rapid aging process or stop aging at all after a time, and the reason Evelyn did was because she wasn't fully in control but also because she wasn't perfectly made, after all she wasn't entirely molded back together by the Megamycete, and given some powers by Mother Miranda, she was mainly an experiment created in a lab. Where Rose was created between two powerful molded humans, the Megamycete, and Mother Miranda. The difference in overall production should be overall obviously greater than that of Evelyn, which should make her even more powerful than Evelyn was.
Lazy writing due to them giving Miranda the most generic throwaway motivation at the last minute. Miranda was originally written to be a scientist for Mia's organization, but for whatever reason they mashed that character together with the village's cult leader archetype and the result we get is incoherent and underwritten.

In other words Miranda has been trying for more than 30yrs but has been failing. Don't downgrade a story u don't understand. She wanted her daughter with her previous memories and she should also be compatible with the mold in which the 4 lords n Eveline were not. Wats the use of bringing her daughter back if it turns into a monster or she cant live as long as Miranda?!
I am curious as to the "motivation" of the megamycete. Even long before the events of Resident Evil 8. 100 years in the past, it existed independent of everything and every one (arguably) on the planet. But even when Miranda touches the megamycete for the first time, she describes it as already having consciousness' within itself - be it through the dead or otherwise. But it already existed, it was already growing and living under the earth.
I think it is the 'Resident Evil' - which is to say, all the mutations in the series, particularly the Progenitor virus as well as the Plaga, are rooted in this ancient parasite that may be as old as the planet or even older (an alien parasite from the stars). Perhaps life began as a hivemind that could transform itself into virtually anything, but the ancestors of modern life broke away from this unity and banished the Resident Evil instead to the depths of the earth; this Resident Evil now seeks to 'reunite' with these individual lifeforms by consuming the descendants of those who banished it and transforming them into gross parodies. Also, the ancient ruins in 8 are tied to the other ancient ruins found in 4, 5 and 6. I believe that these ancient civilizations are all left over by the Progenitors, a superhuman empire who had discovered this prehistoric mutagen and tried to exploit it for power only to have their society wiped out. Modern humans are unwittingly repeating this history by rediscovering the ruins left by the Progenitors and reawakening the Resident Evil in their attempts to use its power for their own selfish goals.
You know, the Megamycete reminds me of the Stairway to the Sun flowers from RE5, the ones in Africa that had the Progenitor virus inside them. This thing has been sitting below this village for god knows how long, spreading its roots and absorbing the dead, until Miranda finally stumbled upon it and then promptly used the 'gifts' it granted her to bring a nightmare to the people in the region. Same as those flowers with their hidden secret, hidden from the world until Spencer and the other Umbrella founders came along and happened upon them, and then used the Progenitor to bring all that evil into the world. And even Las Plagas from RE4, undiscovered beneath the castle for so long until Saddler unearthed them and brought them back. Makes you wonder just how many other weird and wonderful things are lying undiscovered around the world, just waiting to be unleashed.
I think the Progenitors, Las Plagas, and the Megamycete are all linked to an organism I'd like to call 'the Resident Evil'. Think of it as a Lovecraftian entity, possibly as old as the planet or even older if you want to consider alien origins. Maybe it was the origin of life, or at least started preying on life ever since the first single-celled organism figured out how to reproduce. This original lifeform may have been a planet-spanning hivemind that could transform into virtually anything it desired, but the ancestors of modern life broke away from its tyranny and banished it to the depths of the earth while they dwelled on the surface. Twisted and damaged by being forced to endure underground while feeding on the detritus of the dead, this hivemind's attempts to 'reunite' with modern life end up in that lifeform becoming a gross parody of its former self. The 'Progenitors' were an empire of humans who, many thousands of years ago, rediscovered this 'Resident Evil' underground and exploited it to give themselves superhuman power - but their greed surpassed their control and the Resident Evil wiped out their civilization, leaving only their ignorant and powerless descendants behind. The antagonists of the RE games are unknowingly repeating history by seeking out the roots of the Progenitors' power and bringing the Resident Evil back into the modern world.
I feel like the Mutamycete would work on a human similar to the Cordyceps subsessilis fungus on spiders: it releases spores that infect its host and take over its brain, transforming it (the C. subsessilis fungus basically forms a huge ball around the head, thorax, and abdomen, but it can still walk around), except instead of encasing the person, it would turn them into a lycan or a zombie.
One major issue I had with the story was Miranda’s iconography throughout the game, in all images she’s this dark shadowing figure and yet her devout followers of the billiard choose not to adopt her clothing style and cold mannerisms unlike their savior. It felt like cap on really missed an opportunity to make a greater narrative on cult like behavior in this game. Hopefully we get a DLC that expands on this thought
The whole idea of the 'village' is so half-hearted that they should have just called it RE8 instead of pretentiously invoking RE4's memory with that subtitle. The villagers deserved more than just one scene where they all get wiped out.

I feel like Ethans ability to not be completely overcame by the negative effects of the disease because Ethan himself was more foxused on positive things like saving his poved ones and not taking revenge on anyone no matter how bad they've trangessed him. 🤔
I took Rose for an Evolved version of the Megamycete - A brand new more powerful next generation of the species so to speak with its own mind and desires heavily influenced by the love of her father.
The meganycete is an infant in my eyes. Even possibly hundreds of years old. It still has the form of a baby in the womb. It’s a supreme being that needs ages to mature.
You have given me concrete evidence that Ethan could still be alive and or brought back, Thank You. You have me back my hope. Ethan can't be controlled by Mother Miranda or Eveline. He is the perfect host for the Megamycte because he is the only one infected with the Mold to not lose himself in it. His Mind is the Only Stable one inside the Database. I believe He could be brought back somehow.
Basically there are three main organisms that give rise to BOWs in Resident Evil 1) The Progenitor Virus which was founded by Umbrella, the precursor to the T-Virus 2) The Plagas which was cultivated by the Salazar family aided by Osmund Saddler which give rise to Los Illuminados, the antagonists of RE4. A Plaga sample was obtained by Ada Wong, handed over to Albert Wesker to create Orobouros in RE5 3) The Megamycete Mold cultivated by Miranda, leading to the creation of the Mold that sets the events of RE7 and Village
It's possible they may all be connected to each other as well, the Progenitor virus and can infect and mutate other creatures... A artificial derivative of it even created a parasite with some Similarities to the plaga, (The parasite in Nemesis from RE3)
I think Progenitor could technically be the root cause behind the Plaga and Mold's power, but beyond that I also think that 'Progenitor' may refer to the ancient civilizations we have seen hints of in this series and that the root of all life in this world can be linked back to an ancient creature I'd call Resident Evil. I think that life may have originated as a planet-wide hivemind that was capable of transforming itself into anything that the central host desired, but in practice this meant a hellish slavery for all other beings who were treated like cells in this body. The ancestors of modern life therefore broke away from the hivemind and sealed the Resident Evil deep underground, where it would lie in wait for the descendants of the rebels to rediscover it and allow it to vengefully reassimilate all life once again. The Progenitors were an ancient empire of humans who were seduced by the Resident Evil, gaining short-term power but eventually collapsing after realizing that this entity was only manipulating them for its own reasons. Los Illuminados, the Ndipaya, the Family, the Giant's Chalice architects, Miranda, and now Umbrella all represent a continuation of this tradition of hubristic humans having their greed blind them to the danger of reintroducing this ancient evil back into the world.
Could be that there are multiple origin points that vary in the form the mutagen takes. Progenitor flowers originated in Africa, the Megamycete in Romania, and the Plaga may have been imported from Africa to Spain by an ancient civilization. I personally think these ancient people are the real 'Progenitors', and the root cause of all these mutations is the very first organism in existence: the Resident Evil.
I wanna know how Ethan and mia (presuming she also was infected) both gained some of the molds powers but didn’t go crazy or have any effects and why if that’s the case, why they weren’t used as a vessel and why rose was the best choice
I’d like to think that the megamycete, while feeding off of the corpses, receives the “leftovers” of the chemicals remaining in the brain and remembers the makeup caused by such chemicals as a type of defense mechanism to protect itself from what would destroy it. This would give Miranda the idea that the megamycete “records the consciousness” of the dead. Everything else the megamycete did, would be the result of experimentation and extreme self-defense procedures. Just my guess, though. 😊
In Tale Witch trapt Girl in mirror, so Miranda's "ritual" works. Mother (from tale) breaks spell with her love, so means that Mia somehow reverse that "ritual". Someone says that Rosemarry is a RE version of Heather from Silent Hill 3.
Megamycete concept is basically a blob from "the blob" that could absorb, multiply, copy and recreate beings to survive and spread across the world just in form of hive mushroom colony.
I thought the thing was a living entity or parasite from prehistoric times that was barried during the dinosaur extinction, or some other long forgotten extinction level event. Kind of like the plagues in RE 4
Almost assuredly so, it does have some similarities with other things found the in series, The plaga's actually act like a fungus for a part of thier life style, spreading spores and all! And the Progenitor virus that Spencer found gave leeches the abilities to absorb the minds of other creatures and mimic them, just like the Megamycete and miranda could. It's all connected... but we don't quite know how.
When Mother Miranda tried to use Rose for Eva's vessel, she couldn't because Mother Miranda can't control Ethan when he was a mold, and Rose got some of Ethan's mold in her blood so Mother Miranda cant control Rose because of that. So that's why she couldn't change Rose to Eva.
Miranda found the mutamycete by accident, so that makes somethings unknow about that entity. And maybe Ethan was one of the basic form, and that's why couldn't be controlled by Miranda.

I don't want you to get burned out on RE Village... but I'd love to see you delve into the different genres of horror explored here.... like Lady D's castle represents Gothic and Eldritch horror. I really did sometimes think I was in the Cathedral Ward from Bloodborne. Maybe also lore implications for the serious with some items. Take care^^
I have a guess as to a possible storyline for the next RE:
The game starts with the player taking control of a BSAA agent (either someone known like Sheba or a totally new character). They are first seen chatting with some group of coworkers about Chris being a no show and some guy starts talking about rumours about Chris and the top brass being at odds for some reason after the whole Winters incident. PC tries to get more info but they miss the chance as they are getting called to some emergency meeting. PC finds out that they are going to be sent with a strike force headed to some abandoned town that has been getting lots of reports of BOW activity. The player character notes that most of those going opted to wear full face masks and are strangely quite for the briefing and the whole trip.
Getting towards the town, the PC finds it strangely full of people and as the camera shows the townspeople players begins to notice that they recognize some of them. People from RE 7 and 8 seemingly acting like things are normal, mingling and what not.
The PC is confused by what they see but the leader of the strike force states that these are just monsters in disguise and orders the assault to begin. Most of those in town flees but some stay and fight and it's shortly found out that these people are able to tank gunfire for some time. As some sort of alarm starts to blare, mold monsters and lycans alike start showing up and attacks the BSAA people.
By this point the PC starts to notice something, soldiers who suffered grievous wounds are somehow able to get back up and keep fighting. Unfortunately, the intensity of the battle prevents the PC from looking into this more.
The townspeople and monsters are pushed back with some of the bosses from the past games showing up again to try and beat back the invading soldiers but fail. But during these boss battles, the PC witnesses something that worries him, BSAA soldiers turning into T virus, G Virus, and Plaga type monsters and even boss ones and after a big battle, those townspeople left are forced to run away.
PC is horrified by what he saw and the leader approaches him and starts a spiel about "ends justifying the means and fighting fire with fire". PC protests this and is subsequently detained with the leader saying something about the PC understanding after they "get the full picture" or something.
PC wakes up restrained feeling the transport they're suddenly stop and shortly followed by the sound of gunfire, and even some roars and growls. Those guarding the PC move to exit the transport but are gunned down and in comes members of the Hound Wolf Squad saying that they are bailing the PC.
PC is lead to some camp were they are finally filled in as to what's going on. It seems that the BSAA got drunk with power and seeing how effective BOWs were, started using them in it's operations covertly. They saw Rose and her power and wanted it for themselves and with Rose's Megamycyte given knowledge and powers caught on she bailed but as she knows the BSAA will hunt her down she decided to use the full breathe of her powers to fortify an abandoned town to defend herself.
When the PC asked about what happened to Chris, it was revealed to them that Chris was almost assassinated and is now in a coma. There has been talks about using the mold to heal him but everyone involved wasn't sure he'd like that so they are simply caring for him atm.
....
And that's were I ran out of ideas. Anyways that's my rough take for the possible start till midpoint for RE 9.

I feel like Miranda did "die" when she went into that cave. She was consumed by the megamycete, this being its first contact with a living being proper turned her into a conduit and director of the megamycete.
Ethan is special and I don't think Mia was referring to him being Mold ether. Both her and Ethan are now Mold creatures as both died all those years ago. She is referring to whatever made him be free of Evelines direct mind control like she could do to the others. It is possible that there is something else about Ethan that makes him special we haven't been told yet and while we are told his story is done, that thread hangs because it is key to Rose's special power that "even Miranda is afraid of".
Some thoughts could be that Rose is actually an inheritor of the Megamycete, chosen by the Megamycete over all others to be the new "queen" of it (what role do we give the leader of a fungus?). I will point out that during the ceremony Miranda believes she revived Eva but it was instead Rose, she even calls her Rose before we have Carcinogen put her down, no damage style. Her loss of power being that Rose is now actively taking control and she only regains control when merged with Rose.
It is important to remember also that Miranda only inspired Oswald Spencer, she had nothing to do with the progenitor virus. Her goal was entirely for herself while Oswald...well he got a bit weird with it and then got merced.
An important note about Rose is she is a Child of mold. As in...Mia and Ethan both being Mold creatures managed to sire an offspring, despite being mold replacements, through and through (as eveline said, his whole body is mold and his crumbling at the end in reality confirms this). This is significant as with Miranda being the first living being to touch mold (the megamycete), Rose is the first creature to be born of Mold proper, a life truly brought into the world via this being that has so far only ever copied and stored minds and beings.
Lots of questions to ask but certainly the biggest brain moment was how they made "welcome to the family son" far more meaningful than we ever expected.

I think Eveline aged rapidly because of how she was genetically engineered, it is mentioned in one of the files from RE7 that she needed medicine to prevent rapid aging.

There's a note on rose head container that said something like if medicine isn't given then rapid growth would acure
they used the “got a lot of tests coming up” to make the player think she is going to high school, but then says “speaking of the devil,” which confirms the tests are bsaa. Not to mention that the gravestone looks too damn well maintained for something to be at least 15 years old. While one might argue that it is a model issue, I like to think that capcom wouldn’t leave out a detail like that. - as for the mold being dead or alive, Miranda saying that “her powers are leaving her” probably suggests that her powers are transfered, even before Ethan got to kill her, which might mean that the megamycete could be in rose now

The much less forgiving inventory management also made your resources more precious and your saves were limited to how many ink ribbons you could find. I can't help but feel like the Megamycete used Miranda as simply a vessel to help spread it around. All creatures have the most basic desire to multiply.
And it looks like it succeeded. As it was able to spread to America to the Baker residence.

When Rose came out to Miranda at the end, she said she lost her powers. May be she absorbed her power? And when Ethan grabbed her after Miranda died he then began to deteriorate. Rose probably absorbing his powers as well. Because Ethan let’s her go, he’s able to regenerate himself after the explosion and we see him in the end

It all clicked for me when the agent sat “Your a lot like him, you know?” And Rose coyly smiles saying “I know…” My jaw dropped because I though to myself “I bet she sees her dad daily in her mind because he’s part of the hive mind and I bet Rose is carrying it.” It leave a really cool possibility for RE9. Ethan could still talk to his daughter maybe throughout the game. Cool!
That'd be really sweet if she's able to have that connection. In all honestly if I was Ethan I think at that point I would've given up and decided having a family isn't in the cards for me. He's better than me ig because after all that I would've been way too out of it.
Honestly the whole consciousness thing makes me wonder if Ethan actually was talking to Jack Baker in RE7's dream sequence. I kinda like that thought, Ethan conversing with and actually understanding the Bakers' predicament, with Jack getting a chance to give his own words without Evelyn's influence.
Do you think the molded will return in re9 and maybe the BSAA get their hands on a small sample of it after the explosion in the village 🤔 and that is how they create these new clone bioweapons since re9 is going to be the final game in the trilogy.
I do wonder since Ethan was inside the megamycete was he really talking to Jack or was it the megamycete itself telling Ethan the truth about Eveline 🤔 another think I was wondering if the megamycete was found underneath the village in the caves how long was it down there 🤔 and I also think the megamycete was using Miranda to find a host so it could survive so that is probably why at the end when Ethan fights Miranda she is weakened the megamycete probably removed itself from her and transferred to rosemary winters. So Miranda thought she was controlling the megamycete but in reality it was the megamycete or the mold that was controlling her and made her find it a new host or vessel.
Could be the initial infection, combining with a hormone or even adrenaline at such a level to create his heart.

please correct me if i'm wrong, but I think Eveline ages quickly because she is a clone.. this happens because clones are typically made from cells that have already divided many times... Rose however is not a clone, and to further prove this, she was 6 months old at the start of the game.. in 6 months, Eveline would have probably looked like a 12 year old, but Rose was still an infant
I wonder where Las Plagas settles in all this. Also, remember the concept battle some people have shown between Berkin and Nemesis? I can totally see such a thing with Miranda and Sadler.

Could make it like Dead Space or Chrono Trigger where the origin of all these mutagens is of extraterrestrial or even extra dimensional origin. Although I prefer the interpretation similar to Parasite Eve, where a hivemind I'd call the 'Resident Evil' was the very first lifeform prior to being overthrown by modern lifeforms and all the mutations are different methods this ancient dark ecosystem is using to regain control over life.
Explains how Eveline isn't influenced by the megamycete, questions why Miranda can't control Ethan when he's made up of Eveline's mold. Makes sense.
it could be that Eveline was the start of a new megamycete root. Ethan was made of this new root. Attempts to combine Rose in the old one may have caused an issue of the collective consciousness destabilizing as both connected, hence why Miranda was weakened. Rose, becomes the heart of a new root with both collections together.
I'm so early but this is the explanation I sorely needed as a newer person to this series.

So now i'm wondering if the fetus baby was chosen as a vision for Ethan to not only represent his fears about rose, but to represent the megamycete.
I kind of have a feeling that the Mold and the Megamycete acts similarly to Octopi and Starfish, in one respect. The main source/core (the Megamycete) is the central hub of course or a data storage network as it was described. But it is also a spread intelligence, similar to how Octopi and Squids have a spread neural system across their full bodies, allowing their limbs to act on their own independently. With the starfish example, similar, but should the core/main body and limb be separated, it isn't the end. A starfish can regrow a limb that was cut off, but the limb can also regrow the main body should it survive. I believe that is how the Megamycete and the Mold can survive, so long as a source exists.
I am pretty sure Ethan was infected before he reached the Baker property. That is why Eveline cannot control him, why he is special and why Marguerite and Jack push him to eat in the begining of 7. There were A through E types of the mold strain and possibly more and they each effected eachother differently when crossed. I also believe that the Bakers used only living specimens to create the mold monsters, per 'The Tragedy of Ethan Winters' content in 8. That is why Clancy Jarvis and Anton from 'The Sewer Gators' never became mold monsters; they were already dead.

When you pay close attention you see eveline and miranda have a few things in common like both want a family, both have used manipulation and killed people and have great control over the mold
She did gave the DNA of Eva to the connections, so technically Eveline is Miranda's daughter.

7:22 HCF helped Miranda and The Connections create Eveline. HCF is the group Wesker used to attack Rockfort Island in Code Veronica looking for Alexia Ashford causing the T-Virus outbreak there. Only for Wesker to find out that the "Alexia" on Rockfort was actually Alfred who after Alexia had gone into cryosleep for 15 years so her body could adapt to the T-Veronica Virus Alfred had gone mad with loneliness and developed a split personality based on Alexia where he'd go up to his private house, put on one of her dresses and a wig and talk to himself in both their voices. Chris eventually killed Alexia but Wesker still got T-Veronica from Steve Burnside's body who Alexia had experimented on.
HCF is actually a paramilitary group of the Connections that was led by Wesker so technically it was still the Connections and Miranda who created Eveline. No indications as of yet if Wesker was involved but it is apparent someone else took leadership when Wesker “left” (probably for Tricell). HCF probably was tasked in handling and dealing with the A to E series creations and experiments
After hearing that, I thought and realized something
You said that the Megamycete is in Rose, but what if it decided to use Ethan? He was closer, and it would be easier to conceal itself until it could grow back. True, Rose has some unknown powers, and that begs what abilities. Maybe she has a hybrid of most, if not all the bosses. Super strength, rapid healing, transformation, mold manipulation, psychological manipulation, and magnetic distortion. Her age, though, could be a side effect.
It may have some of Eveline's super growth, but when you said it might have not been actually 25 years, it might have really been that long, but she is subconsciously aging slower, rather than faster. The Megamycete is still there, either completely in or mostly a part of Rose, but if that little bit at the end with Ethan is any indicator, maybe he lives in her mind or in life, to guide Rose in her ability
Regarding Ethan being able to retain his self-control, there are 2 theories, depending on how much agency you want to give him as a character:
1) Ethan is special and is actually able to simply retain his will within the mold - that explains why Eveline wasn't able to control him. It is stated that there are people just naturally resistant to mold mind control (Mia retained some sense of self for three years while being held captive)
2) Ethan can't be controlled by Miranda because he is being controlled by Rose, who was established to be more powerful. The whole RE VIII is nothing but Ethan following Rose's command to rescue her.
Probably the first, heisenberg was trying to escape and get free after all.
This seems very interesting and actually kinda makes sense.
My own theory is that the mold is able to give the people it infects, (that are compatable with it,) the abilities in accordance to help them achieve what the seek the most. Ethan wanted to save his family no matter what. He had a strong will from the very start and was different than the others so the mold decided to give him the abilities to achieve that.
I'll list out his abilities first, ability to avoid mind control to a super natural ability, beyond advanced understanding of weapons and weapon creation, super human regenerative abilities, super human endurance, super human reflexes (dependent in the person who's playing as him in the game,) resistance to pain, advance avoidance of those infected that have super human senses (also determine of those who play as him,) ability to see into the memories of others, and an advance understandment of combat that rivals seasoned veterans. All of which is granted to him specifically to be able to regain his family. He's able to avoid the almost impossible mind control and manipulation that not even the Miramda can, he was unable to be manipulated into doing what the mold yearned for, the 4 lords couldn't avoid the mind control of Mother Miranda no matter how hard they tried but it wasn't even a problem for Ethan. He was able to see into Rose's memories to understand what was going on as well as the Bakers memories and mind. He could see into the mind of Eva to a lesser extent even though she certainly did not want it. It makes absolutely no sense that those Lycans couldn't sniff him out completely when this man should've reeked of filth when the other villagers were easily spotted. Mother Miranada was able to access all that information because it's what she needed to bring back her daughter, she's being mind controlled into spreading the mold and she doesn't even realize it. Ethan is also gifted the knowledge on how to beat the asses of "people," who should be invincible. But it still makes very little sense to me because, why him? Mother Miranda I understand, but Ethan is special and it's not because he's the main character lol. Sorry this is so long
Man I have to admit. RE pulled some crazy ish out of their a** this time. Tying the entire series back to a giant primordial fetus probably of alien origin. I don’t know. Who knows what we’ll be facing in 9. Maybe the Megamycete is product of Medieval alchemy and we’ll get to kill Dracula in a flashback next time around. I love this series; since 99.
It's not actually that crazy considering how over the top the series has been. The old idea for Resident Evil 4 was for Ozwell Spencer to be a centuries-old immortal vampire who got his powers from the tomb of an ancient king whose undead followers are still alive, and his cloned sons would have had superhuman abilities just like Wesker because they were 'perfected Progenitors'. This idea ended up becoming Devil May Cry, but we still see traces of the 'ancient superhuman civilization' throughout 4, 5, and even 6.

I like that the megamycete opens up more doors for the games in the future. Someone could have put that strain of it in the cave. There could be more around the world, or a main home where they actually came from.
This makes me wonder if the megamycete was underneath the village in that cave what about that cave full of crystals in the stronghold area of the game could that have been another megamycete route like a giant flower 🌼
There is a simple possible explanation.
Ethan was infected, and became a new "Root". It would explain why he couldn't be controlled very well, his ridiculous durability, and his lack of apparent negative side effects. Rose like Ethan could be a "Root" but one not tainted by the "shoots". Which would make her stronger and more capable of manipulating the mold.
I do like the idea that it's only been a few years.
You presume that Miranda is unaffected by the hive-mind, honestly her character development after contacting the mold isn't any different from the Bakers, assuming she wasn't the homicidal, turn entire town into test subjects, kind of scientist she is now. Even though she has freedom of mind to pursue her daughter, its through the means that ultimately benefit the collection of data into the megamycete. You'd think after the 20th lycan she'd consider not using such similar subjects, or especially after Heisenberg and Alcina did so well as foreigners. She even ruled Eveline out despite her strain of the mold being what ultimately made Rose her perfect candidate. I'd say her mind was greatly affected by the megamycete.
I think there's a definite implication that the 'Resident Evils' (Progenitor, Plaga, Megamycete) in this series manipulate and corrupt even their seemingly lucid hosts.
I still don't get how if Ethan died in RE7 that he was somehow immune from Eveline's mind control; since by the end of the game he clearly begins to display the supposedly "early" symptoms of Mold infection (seeing the Eveline hallucinations, etc). Honestly the obvious answer is that Ethan "always being dead" is just a retcon.
Mabye just like how Mia was sometimes normal and then would randomly snap and be under Evilines control mabye Ethan is the same way except we dont see it or another normal person wasn't around him long enough for it to occur
@@jeambeam3173 It was implied that in RE7 that Eveline was treating Mia differently than the rest of the Bakers because she was Eveline's "favorite", which even people like Lucas noted. Maybe it's just me but I always assumed that because Mia was Eveline's "mother" she was never fully infected like the rest of the Bakers.
I don't think Ethan was supposed to be dead that game. Just lightly infected. Kept around to be a dad. Not dead. I feel like they changed that for this game to have a dramatic twist in the last act
It could be because she is getting weaker due to the advanced aging. If you take into account how long it takes her to effect the Bakers, and then compare how long until Ethan starts to see the symptoms. You can sort of see just how lucky Ethan actually got.
It's an unnecessary retcon that creates more plot holes in its attempt to explain something that already had an explanation. In this case, we could already infer that Ethan was in the early stages of infection and he had a low-grade version of the healing factor the other Bakers had. RE8's 'twist' just baffles me since we're supposed to assume immediately afterwards that Ethan 'permanently' dies.

For some reason I feel that instead of rose aging agressively to be old, that she may well be able to also stop the rapid aging process or stop aging at all after a time, and the reason Evelyn did was because she wasn't fully in control but also because she wasn't perfectly made, after all she wasn't entirely molded back together by the Megamycete, and given some powers by Mother Miranda, she was mainly an experiment created in a lab. Where Rose was created between two powerful molded humans, the Megamycete, and Mother Miranda. The difference in overall production should be overall obviously greater than that of Evelyn, which should make her even more powerful than Evelyn was.
If she had her daughter's DNA then I have to question why she didn't clone her daughter or take further interest in Evaline
Lazy writing due to them giving Miranda the most generic throwaway motivation at the last minute. Miranda was originally written to be a scientist for Mia's organization, but for whatever reason they mashed that character together with the village's cult leader archetype and the result we get is incoherent and underwritten.

I am curious as to the "motivation" of the megamycete. Even long before the events of Resident Evil 8. 100 years in the past, it existed independent of everything and every one (arguably) on the planet. But even when Miranda touches the megamycete for the first time, she describes it as already having consciousness' within itself - be it through the dead or otherwise. But it already existed, it was already growing and living under the earth.
I think it is the 'Resident Evil' - which is to say, all the mutations in the series, particularly the Progenitor virus as well as the Plaga, are rooted in this ancient parasite that may be as old as the planet or even older (an alien parasite from the stars). Perhaps life began as a hivemind that could transform itself into virtually anything, but the ancestors of modern life broke away from this unity and banished the Resident Evil instead to the depths of the earth; this Resident Evil now seeks to 'reunite' with these individual lifeforms by consuming the descendants of those who banished it and transforming them into gross parodies.
Also, the ancient ruins in 8 are tied to the other ancient ruins found in 4, 5 and 6. I believe that these ancient civilizations are all left over by the Progenitors, a superhuman empire who had discovered this prehistoric mutagen and tried to exploit it for power only to have their society wiped out. Modern humans are unwittingly repeating this history by rediscovering the ruins left by the Progenitors and reawakening the Resident Evil in their attempts to use its power for their own selfish goals.
You know, the Megamycete reminds me of the Stairway to the Sun flowers from RE5, the ones in Africa that had the Progenitor virus inside them. This thing has been sitting below this village for god knows how long, spreading its roots and absorbing the dead, until Miranda finally stumbled upon it and then promptly used the 'gifts' it granted her to bring a nightmare to the people in the region. Same as those flowers with their hidden secret, hidden from the world until Spencer and the other Umbrella founders came along and happened upon them, and then used the Progenitor to bring all that evil into the world. And even Las Plagas from RE4, undiscovered beneath the castle for so long until Saddler unearthed them and brought them back.
Makes you wonder just how many other weird and wonderful things are lying undiscovered around the world, just waiting to be unleashed.
I think the Progenitors, Las Plagas, and the Megamycete are all linked to an organism I'd like to call 'the Resident Evil'. Think of it as a Lovecraftian entity, possibly as old as the planet or even older if you want to consider alien origins. Maybe it was the origin of life, or at least started preying on life ever since the first single-celled organism figured out how to reproduce. This original lifeform may have been a planet-spanning hivemind that could transform into virtually anything it desired, but the ancestors of modern life broke away from its tyranny and banished it to the depths of the earth while they dwelled on the surface. Twisted and damaged by being forced to endure underground while feeding on the detritus of the dead, this hivemind's attempts to 'reunite' with modern life end up in that lifeform becoming a gross parody of its former self.
The 'Progenitors' were an empire of humans who, many thousands of years ago, rediscovered this 'Resident Evil' underground and exploited it to give themselves superhuman power - but their greed surpassed their control and the Resident Evil wiped out their civilization, leaving only their ignorant and powerless descendants behind. The antagonists of the RE games are unknowingly repeating history by seeking out the roots of the Progenitors' power and bringing the Resident Evil back into the modern world.

I feel like the Mutamycete would work on a human similar to the Cordyceps subsessilis fungus on spiders: it releases spores that infect its host and take over its brain, transforming it (the C. subsessilis fungus basically forms a huge ball around the head, thorax, and abdomen, but it can still walk around), except instead of encasing the person, it would turn them into a lycan or a zombie.
One major issue I had with the story was Miranda’s iconography throughout the game, in all images she’s this dark shadowing figure and yet her devout followers of the billiard choose not to adopt her clothing style and cold mannerisms unlike their savior. It felt like cap on really missed an opportunity to make a greater narrative on cult like behavior in this game. Hopefully we get a DLC that expands on this thought
The whole idea of the 'village' is so half-hearted that they should have just called it RE8 instead of pretentiously invoking RE4's memory with that subtitle. The villagers deserved more than just one scene where they all get wiped out.

I feel like Ethans ability to not be completely overcame by the negative effects of the disease because Ethan himself was more foxused on positive things like saving his poved ones and not taking revenge on anyone no matter how bad they've trangessed him. 🤔

I took Rose for an Evolved version of the Megamycete - A brand new more powerful next generation of the species so to speak with its own mind and desires heavily influenced by the love of her father.
The meganycete is an infant in my eyes. Even possibly hundreds of years old. It still has the form of a baby in the womb. It’s a supreme being that needs ages to mature.
So where the hell did the Megamycete come from? Is it extra terrestrial? Is it demonic? Is it a bio weapon sent back through time?
It's a demonic alien from the future of another dimension sent back to our past!
In the epilogue, for a split second I thought the guy with Rose was supposed to be Leon Kennedy.

Ethan can't be controlled by Mother Miranda or Eveline. He is the perfect host for the Megamycte because he is the only one infected with the Mold to not lose himself in it. His Mind is the Only Stable one inside the Database. I believe He could be brought back somehow.

Basically there are three main organisms that give rise to BOWs in Resident Evil
1) The Progenitor Virus which was founded by Umbrella, the precursor to the T-Virus
2) The Plagas which was cultivated by the Salazar family aided by Osmund Saddler which give rise to Los Illuminados, the antagonists of RE4. A Plaga sample was obtained by Ada Wong, handed over to Albert Wesker to create Orobouros in RE5
3) The Megamycete Mold cultivated by Miranda, leading to the creation of the Mold that sets the events of RE7 and Village
It's possible they may all be connected to each other as well, the Progenitor virus and can infect and mutate other creatures... A artificial derivative of it even created a parasite with some Similarities to the plaga, (The parasite in Nemesis from RE3)
I think Progenitor could technically be the root cause behind the Plaga and Mold's power, but beyond that I also think that 'Progenitor' may refer to the ancient civilizations we have seen hints of in this series and that the root of all life in this world can be linked back to an ancient creature I'd call Resident Evil. I think that life may have originated as a planet-wide hivemind that was capable of transforming itself into anything that the central host desired, but in practice this meant a hellish slavery for all other beings who were treated like cells in this body. The ancestors of modern life therefore broke away from the hivemind and sealed the Resident Evil deep underground, where it would lie in wait for the descendants of the rebels to rediscover it and allow it to vengefully reassimilate all life once again.
The Progenitors were an ancient empire of humans who were seduced by the Resident Evil, gaining short-term power but eventually collapsing after realizing that this entity was only manipulating them for its own reasons. Los Illuminados, the Ndipaya, the Family, the Giant's Chalice architects, Miranda, and now Umbrella all represent a continuation of this tradition of hubristic humans having their greed blind them to the danger of reintroducing this ancient evil back into the world.

Could be that there are multiple origin points that vary in the form the mutagen takes. Progenitor flowers originated in Africa, the Megamycete in Romania, and the Plaga may have been imported from Africa to Spain by an ancient civilization. I personally think these ancient people are the real 'Progenitors', and the root cause of all these mutations is the very first organism in existence: the Resident Evil.

I’d like to think that the megamycete, while feeding off of the corpses, receives the “leftovers” of the chemicals remaining in the brain and remembers the makeup caused by such chemicals as a type of defense mechanism to protect itself from what would destroy it. This would give Miranda the idea that the megamycete “records the consciousness” of the dead. Everything else the megamycete did, would be the result of experimentation and extreme self-defense procedures. Just my guess, though. 😊

Almost assuredly so, it does have some similarities with other things found the in series, The plaga's actually act like a fungus for a part of thier life style, spreading spores and all! And the Progenitor virus that Spencer found gave leeches the abilities to absorb the minds of other creatures and mimic them, just like the Megamycete and miranda could. It's all connected... but we don't quite know how.

When Mother Miranda tried to use Rose for Eva's vessel, she couldn't because Mother Miranda can't control Ethan when he was a mold, and Rose got some of Ethan's mold in her blood so Mother Miranda cant control Rose because of that. So that's why she couldn't change Rose to Eva.
