The absolute PERFECT opening song for that movie - - it sets the WHOLE TONE FOR WHOLE GENERATION that made that time and that movie and all those great, great groups who were there SO perfect.
There was a 20th anniversary thing on either Oprah or some show bk in 1989. I was a 12 year old skater kid girl who loved Guns n Roses & the Chili Peppers. My mom was apparently getting tired of me boasting about my music & had me watch this thing on a talk show about some 60s concert. Okay, pretty cool. My mom, seeing how impressed I was with this hour long thing, had us rent the movie from a local video store. OH MY GAWD...my music taste totally broadened, to what it is today. I love all kinds of music, but this movie totally did it for me.
Rest in peace, David Crosby, and thank you, especially for this great piece of music. It puts me in a frame of mind few other songs I can think of match.
I used to play and sing his part in my own Band every night back in the 70's. "Long Time Gone"! Man, those were the days! True hope for the World that the human race might yet change! Still hoping! Now working on my Book and my Film Script to my own end. Rest In Peace David Crosby. Thank you for everything!
Actually this is my favorite part of the movie.Whoever is responsible did a great job.It really makes you want to be there and sets the tone that this is something special even if you don't know any of the music.
Totally agree, living 10 min from the woodstock site makes it even better as the area has not changed much since, second to this for me would have to be wooden ships and the scenes of welding in the night.
Ah, those guys and girls riding the horses... that sense of freedom! Just a halter and a total sense of joy. To think that they are probably grandparents now!
I SWEAR! If I could, I'd put January 1, 1965 - December 31, 1984 on a NEVER ENDING loop! IMHO, the most exciting, prolific & vibrant 20 years in human history! And, if I was forced to downsize those 20 golden years & only pick THE TEN, absolute pinnacle years, in history, I'd pick 1967-1976! Awesome!
It really was a great period in popular music! the Beatles, the Doors, theStones, the Eagles, Linda Ronstadt,,Billy Joel, Led Zeppellin (!), Elton John, Joni Mitchell, Jim Croce, Allman Bros., and very many more.
Would love to find out how the lives of these people went over the last 50 years and who they are. We all hoped better days were to come but Manson and the Angels at Altamont tore it all apart and shattered the dream. It's still glorious to watch and listen to this and have those feelings flood back. Peace.
"We all hoped better days were to come but Manson and the Angels at Altamont tore it all apart and shattered the dream" True. Then along came Regan in the US and Thatcher in the UK and the dream of a better world for everyone in the UK and US has been on the backfoot ever since.
Thank CIA, Tavistock Institute, SRI International & MI6 (underbelly of MIC) since they were actually the ones behind all of it including distribution of LSD.
50 years ago today a miracle occurred. A half a million people came together in love and peace ✌ I have made a video asking what happened to the Woodstock Dream? I am an aging hippie trying to figure out today's bizzare world . I still believe in the dream!! Got to meet David Crosby at one of my recovery halls in 89. It was a very special moment.
To see this clip from the Woodstock movie is to realize that it still gets you emotionally. There is a screenplay out there which starts at the festival but the story continues straight up until the present. One can only imagine the life journey of that blanket clad couple on the album cover, who are still together to this day.
Hard to believe you are gone. I played this on my stacking record player with a needle the year it came out. Now I listen to it digitally 55 years later. Will miss you.
Had a chance to see Crosby stills and Nash sometime ago. We sat in the balcony of this theatre and David Crosby step back from the mike and belted out this song. WOW! Still a great memory
Tuve la experiencia de visitar Woodstock hace 1 mes, foto en la placa conmemorativa y después caminar por la ladera escuchando un par de temas de Santana y CS&N, mucha emoción, mágico.
Gotta to say without that hippie chick trippin with me and the 3 bananas and got to say the ride there was so sweet my 4 buds and my girl breaking in new pipes all the way good fun just getting there the next 3 day's were trippen good. Best party so far.. . . .
It's been a long time comin' It's goin' to be a long time gone And it appears to be a long Appears to be a long Appears to be a long Time, yes, a long, long, long, long time Before the dawn Turn, turn any corner Hear, you must hear what the people say You know there's something it's going on around here It surely, surely, surely won't stand the light of day, no And it appears to be a long (yes, it does) Appears to be a long (mmm) Appears to be a long Time, such a long, long time Before the dawn Speak out, you got to speak out against the madness You got to speak your mind, if you dare But don't, no, don't, no, try to get yourself elected If you do, you had better cut your hair, mmm And it appears to be a long (yes, it does) Appears to be a long (mmm) Appears to be a long Time, such a long, long, long, long time Before the dawn, yeah It's been a (long) long (time) time (comin') comin' It's goin' to be (long) a long (time) time (gone) gone But you know The darkest hour Is always, always just before the dawn And it appears to be a long Appears to be a long Appears to be a long time, such a long, long, long, long time Before the dawn
We've gone full circle and lines from this song can once again be considered relevant to events transpiring in our country today. Speak out against the madness if you dare! Probably my favorite CSN song, I sometimes think Wooden Ships is, with one of the worst endings ever!
FYI David Crosby wrote this song the night that Robert Kennedy was assassinated. Hence the line about not getting yourself elected but if you do you better cut your hair. It happened on the night I graduated from high school.
Yasgurs farm still there, many red barns there, a large modern museum commemorating Woodstock. This comment made 50yrs, 10 months ago, TH-cam just now posting it

If factor in, that their own equipment was blocked by 400000 people, that they borrowed Canned Heat’s PA &etc, and that Stephen was retuning “on the fly,” the “tight” sound you think you’re hearing would have sounded MUCH tighter...
Our world would be a much better place if we could all "get back to the garden."

Good thing someone is out there on our behalf since we sure are sleeping eh Didier fan?
Clairement la merci Didier !
How cool to be able to say "i helped build the stage at the original (and only) Woodstock"
The guy who played Cliff the postman in Cheers helped build the stage. ✌🏻
Super cool 😎

How cool to be able to say that you were alive and lived through things that kids have to Google..
Right on❤
I was born in 1970, my parents both hippies and my mom was pregnant with me when they were there. So, technically, I was at Woodstock! 🤘🤘🤘🕊️✌️☮️
The absolute PERFECT opening song for that movie - - it sets the WHOLE TONE FOR WHOLE GENERATION that made that time and that movie and all those great, great groups who were there SO perfect.
you're absolutely right
For someone who was not even born when this happened, gives me the damned chills. What talent.
I was born but at 5 years old no idea what it was. But I have been there to see concerts always a certain feeling there
David Crosby's father was a CIA agent. Reseasrch tavistock institute
Right I was born in 1976 but I’ve always been so fascinated with Woodstock and I love 50s 60s 70s 80s and beyond music ..of every genre.

Absolutely. Stills' guitar delivers all I ask of soloing, nor did Crosby's vocal disappoint.
Yeah this whole sequence is just so perfectly arranged. the visuals the audio. genious
Totally agree, living 10 min from the woodstock site makes it even better as the area has not changed much since, second to this for me would have to be wooden ships and the scenes of welding in the night.

That's cool! I bet you are proud of that -- I would be! An amazing event.
I remember the Fish Cheer! Maybe I will consider buying the CD of Woodstock '69

What happened? How did we get so off track? The world today, is far from the one envisioned growing up!
Amo a todos mis prójimos, espero la tercera guerra no se de pero si es así tenemos que unirnos todos por la paz como en woodstock 1969.
