Ben and Meg, please, please, please enjoy your down time and light sabers. You have done a great body of work in one third of a year without a general contractor, or Chip and Jo, to plan and direct building efforts. The chicken coop build/modify was fantastic! Fire nights are so amazing! Getting the POD gone was SO huge! What I didn't hear mentioned in the vlog is the Herculean efforts that raising 4 boys can take. That alone is praiseworthy. You keep saying, "we'll get there", without realizing that you already have. The viewers totally give you grace. We are happy to see you when you are up to it. Thank you for multiple platforms. All the best and nothin' but love!

I'm sorry that the two of you felt compelled to make this video explaining your plans. Some folks think that just because they watch your channel that they get some say in your life, and some of the comments on your recent vids have proven that theres always gonna be someone out there who thinks you could be doing better, or that they have better ideas than you. PLEASE continue to 'do you' to the Nth degree and ignore those folks who are so bored with their own lives that they try to live yours for you. Universal love~

My stepdad always used to say this: the best vacation is a change of work. As a kid, I thought that was nuts; as an adult, I came to see how right he was. Doing what makes your heart glad is the best way to recover from doing what you must do to get stuff done. Have glad hearts. It's the journey and not the destination that matters.

I hope you guys don't feel like every video needs to be either 1) a big progress milestone achievement, or 2) an apology/explanation/excuse why there isn't a big milestone in this video. I think the audience just likes to see you guys do 'you' stuff whether or not it's moving the ball forward on the bigger homestead building narrative. We know by now that you're in a marathon, not a sprint with your property.

I live in the hills of Tuscany and I am surrounded by Italian farmers. This will be my ninth winter here and I have learned a lot from them. In September the grapes are harvested and the wine is made. In October and November they stock up on firewood, hunt wild boar, turkeys, pheasant and grouse, and in early December, they pick the olives and get them pressed to stock up their cantinas with fresh olive oil. Then they slaughter their goose or turkey for Christmas. So until late March, they eat their salumi and prosciutto with their wine and fresh bread, they enjoy the time of rest, the fruits of their labors and gain some weight and get refreshed again. You guys have nothing to explain. You are living in the country now and the land and nature is showing you how it goes. And every year, your harvests will be better, and your work increasingly fruitful. Forget filming your life all the time, and taking on the unnecessary burden of "having to please everyone." Just enjoy your lives right now. Enjoy each other. Do what you want to do. Relax. Rest. Eat good food, love one another. I am sure this is all part of God's plan for you. Sending you love and hugs from Italy.

My hubby and I bought a 1916 farmhouse on 3.2 acres in 93'. It was in really bad shape. Everything needed doing. We have been working on the 2700 sq ft house. The yards, gardens, etc. So if your doing the math, yes it's been 26 years. So if you get yours done before that.....your doing great! We took off 5 years at one point. We were so burned out. So remember to enjoy your homestead and not grow to hate it. We still love our old farmhouse and the beautiful countryside around us. We have woods, elk, deer, bears etc. That come into our yard. Love watching the bald eagles flying around us. So just take sometime to breathe. It's too easy to over do.🙃😸😁

Sometimes the journey is the adventure, not always the destination. We purchased our home 2.5 years ago and almost immediately started gutting it. We tore our walls, floors, etc, with just my husband and I doing everything. All new plumbing and electrical, framing, Sheetrock, plaster, paint, home-made cabinets - everything done by myself and (mostly) my husband, both of us working full time jobs. What we found out about the same time as you is that, burnout is REAL. My husband has had to take off weeks at a time to decompress because, at a certain point looking at all you have left to do, all you can think is how easy it would be to just torch everything. Coming back from that is hard, so I’m glad you guys are taking breaks when you need it. Like you, we have another place to live while we renovate; unlike you, we don’t have a community to call and help us, hence why we’re at the 2.5 year mark and not moved in. But please, think of yourselves and your family first and most importantly.

Don't let anyone tell you how you should be getting things done. Some of the best advice I ever got was, "I'll do me and you do you." Just because you have a TH-cam channel doesn't mean you have to put up videos multiple times a week. I'm sure everyone who watches understands the extreme amount of work it is to take bare land and build a homestead out of it. You are doing great so far. The house build is just an added layer to the whole project and with your work ethic, I'm sure you will get there eventually. Happy homesteading!

I'm not an Instagramer, but I would totally love to see your tinkering as you take this break. But if making the videos are too much, then by all means ENJOY YOUR TIME OFF!! Your audience will be here when you're ready! I so enjoy your videos! You Tube never existed back when I first built a homestead. Noone to come along for the ride, except the neighbors driving by or photos sent out in Christmas cards. In 2016 Jim & I built yet another woodland home and we STILL didn't post it on You Tube. Point being made is this is your life. Viewers should appreciate that you are willing to stop what your doing and edit to bring them along... Did we take a breather along the way since 2016.
We sure did! We are the the Woodstock generation and make no apologies regarding the progress of our home.

For those of us who have started out from scratch on our homesteads...we get it. We started ours in 2015. We are now 59 and 4 years later we are starting the remodel on our mobile home. The frustrating work involved outside & inside during the whole process has come from the "extra unexpected challenges" in every project we have done. Not to mention unexpected expenses. Mike works fulltime off the homestead so things go at a bit slower pace. Let's not forget the 911's...collapsed main line from the mobile to the septic tank...or the ac unit quitting in 100° temps. Burn out is a BIG DEAL. We were so crabby, cranky and tired. am grateful you have done this video..not because some are questioning you but because of the advise you are sharing..the realness of it all and how it's not easy to achieve. It's downright hard work. Work smarter not harder...and play..relax. Make lightsabers, enjoy yourselves and for goodness sakes remember your goal in your journey to where you are now. Your family is more important than any one of us out here. ❤🙏❤

You’ve got all the basics there. Enjoy that. ❤️ We will wait. (We had our 1926 house remodeled and it took 7 months. We moved out and in with our daughter. That was pretty crazy too.)🤪 One thing ... we had contractors and sub-contractors and a lot more working on our house. That was an expensive and grateful gift to our older age. My husband worked and retired at 71 because he had a job that he loved. Really loved. I did day care. I adore your lives. You are both making dreams come true with your sweet family and dear friends. You don’t have to appologize for slowing down and releasing less videos. The most important thing is your health. Us fans will be here faithfully waiting for you when you as long as you need.
I’m so impressed with the amount of things you do; raising four boys, home-schooling them, running two businesses, creating a homestead from scratch, building a house (cause that’s basically what you’re doing with the mobile home).
And all this while still living in a tiny RV, which gives you no room or time to mentally process and reflect upon all the impressions and memories from the trip, nor to take in and contemplate over what you want to do with your new property.
And somewhere in there you also need to spend quality time with the kids, and also very important; spend private adult time together, and if you’re the personality that needs it, alone time just by yourself.
I was burnt out some years ago from stress at work, so I can imagine how you’re feeling. Please slow down and take care of your mental health before totally burning out. I was stubborn and naiv and ignored the signs, so I was home from work more or less for a year, and I’m still not 100% where I used to be.
I dream of living in the countryside doing a bit of homesteading, but I also try to be realistic about what I mentally have energy to take on (that’s not easy).
Take care, have a nice slow winter season rest, and god bless you!🙏👨‍👦‍👦👩‍👦‍👦😍❤️🙌🌳🐷🥓🐔🥚🥦🥬🥒🍅🥔🥕🌽🍎🍓

I have PTSD. I get it. Triggers, being too busy and change can be overwhelming. And that causes mistakes, problems and triggers to be more sensitive. Being slower, more intentional, gets things done while not making you crazy. Love you!!!!

I have always heard that if you are doing a big build/major remodel expect it to take a year. You mentioned you had only been on the homestead for 4 to 5 months. It is absolutely amazing how much you all have accomplished in such a short time. You are an inspiration to all of us out here chasing the dream with you and lord know we have all had to take a breath at some point. Winter is the season of rest and we are coming in to that time. So hope you all have a fantastic Thanksgiving and Christmas and a much deserved rest if you are feeling up to posting great if not we'll be here when you are and as you like to say at the end of your video we will catch you all on the next one 😊

I think you are both fantastic people.
I follow a number of homesteaders on TH-cam and I think you are the most honest and authentic couple. Maybe it's an American thing, but many other, your well-known, channels are much more focused on selling their merchandise and proclaiming how amazing and inspiring they are.
Precisely by not doing this and being open and honest about your mental health and the bumps you encounter, you have become a great source of inspiration for me.
So, from the Netherlands, I wish you a happy down time :)
Enjoy yourself and your family, and I hope you can recharge a little. Lots of love!

Ben and Meg, I am so happy for you that you are taking a mental health break 💕 I do not know how to start a homestead from scratch but I did grow up on many farms that my father would buy and fix up and milk cows while doing so. Parenting is hard work, maintaining a healthy marriage is hard work, building your dream Homestead is hard work, taking care of all of your animals is hard work, maintaining your businesses is hard work. I don't mean to sound condescending when I say this stop... I am so proud of both of you for all of the hard work that you have put into your dream and your family! God bless you both and the boys 💜 enjoy the journey! Take time to enjoy life and I already know you have a lot of gratitude. I admire you both very much and think you are awesome much love to you and your family! Sheri from Minnesota 😘🤗

Totally agree! Steve and I left our homestead Nov 1 because we couldn't go any further, especially with the water freezing, just too cold for working. We went back south to work but will be returning to our homestead in March. Until then we are staying with family and enjoying our grandchildren and the Holidays!!!❤👍

I was floored when you said you've only been there 4 months. You have gotten a LOT done in that short time. The holidays are the perfect time to enjoy your family and refresh yourselves. The mobile home will be there to work on as you feel like it. You've got a cozy place to live till you can move in. Working slowly will make it so much more enjoyable. Best wishes. You will get there. :)

We moved back to our "homestead" about 4 or 5 months ago. LOTS of work had to be done to the house and yard, it's not completely finished either. Now we are putting up a large wood fence, building a chicken coop, setting up more garden beds, still working on the house, and my husband has a Heating and Air business which is super busy. We are 40 and 41 yrs old. So many projects at once lol I don't feel burnt out tho, I did get tired of painting cause I painted almost every room in the house already. If we are really tired of working on one thing, we do a different project and come back to it later, unless it's something that has to be completed right then. It's harder working through the fall/winter once it gets cold I think, when spring comes both of you will feel that energy revive and want to get back at it full force ahead!

Best Kept Secret On You-tube: Down Time is the goal of Homesteading! Ding, Ding, Ding! You have advanced to a desired level in homesteading! There will always be more work! But now there is time to rest up & tackle it at your leisure! Take your hat & the pressure off & enjoy your new spaces! Love you guys! Share what you can, when you can! But keep in mind we'd likely enjoy your down time as much as you do! These things keep life interesting! Even a shot of you curled up in a nook reading a book, maybe with a warm drink is a nice video moment to insert in a video... simple things are pure pleasure!
