This music transports you to a time that never existed, to a place you have never been, and that is kind of sad, not a bad sadness but a melancholic sadness, you know what I am talking about...
I thoroughly related to this and have experienced this countless times with dungeon synth and fantasy in general. The inevitable melancholy of being immersed in a form escapism. Filled with nostalgia over something which never existed. This feeling is heightened for me by the notion that most of these fantastic worlds in which we seek to escape through art, writing, etc. are not worlds which would actually be desirable to exist within. Most fantasy worlds are brutal and laden with hardship, not to mention that one would gradually acclimate and the 'magical' realm would soon become as normal and quotidian as the one in which we presently exist in. I think it is through this 'hollowness' of both the hazy depiction of distant worlds and that we are only attracted to their veneer in the first place, that culminates in this wistful melancholy...we seek to escape from that which we dwell into lands of imagination which, if they were any less thin and any more substantial, we would also seek to escape from.
Sounds like the soundtrack to a deeply atmospheric video game you loved as a child; some mist-shrouded fantasy game whose title you can't quite recall.
Wow Lament of the Princess really reminds me of Lamentation. Ironically enough. Had to order this Gem. With all the DS coming out this truly captures the 90s. Phenomenal.
HOW are people making dungeon synth nowadays that sounds like it was recorded back in 1991?? Vanishing Amulet, Lord of Fearlessness - my biggest old school DS releases recently.
Nowadays, I feel like dungeon synth often gets boring, the new albums just don't work the way the classics did. This, however, seems to be a welcome exception from the very first song, we'll see later in the album.

that's when you write about those times and places, and make them a reality! dungeon synth is fantastic world building inspiration :)

@@loach-hell yeah, dungeon synth, oldschool dnd/fantasy art, scented candles and a fitting beverage of choice.
Great time writing guaranteed for sure

Reminds me a bit of Hexen and those misty swamp quests😊
@@lukegaul3995 If you had the gameplay of Hexen but the exploration of Daggerfall. Damn I wouldn't have played any other game as a kid.
@@PaulC-Drums Now that would have been perfect! Ah the memories of both of those games...
Or Blade Warrior! The good old Blade Warrior (in the exploration and alchemy bits, it wouldn't quite do for the combat).
@@temporary0insanity Yes indeed, had forgotten about that one!
My first and favorite dungeon synth album. Vanishing Amulet intriduced me to the genre and made me fall in love with it
Try Vindkaldr - enchantments of old lore

Brand new to this genre and ngl I was waiting for the electric guitar to come in on the intro and was sort of disappointed lol

There is a black dungeon synth genre but may not be what you are expecting.
