I saw this when it was broadcast, and after all these years, I remembered "Ouch, you're steppin' on my pouch." Best supercharged version of "Some People" I ever heard.
Uncle Miltie seems to have gotten more than his share of specials in color, even if this is NBC. By 1962 I would think even the color network still broadcast most of it's specials in black and white. Also I rarely see Como and Shore in living color but rather on Kinescopes. I wonder why some tape survived and others did not?Willing to be corrected on this and hope you can post the whole thing! Thanks!
That crossed my mind also, but maybe the series "Laramie" had not debuted on television until the fall of 1962, and this Berle special was 3/9/1962. The new kaleidoscope peacock may have premiered with the Laramie series.
I believe that Wikipedia mentioned Laramie on 1/1/1962 (prior to this special) debuted the new Peacock; but then again, if it's Wikipedia, sometimes one has to take it with a mountain of salt. I was a toddler at the time, so I am relying on the more seasoned classic TV folk! 🙂
To clarify....Laramie ran 1959-63---1961-63 (last 2 seasons) in color. The debut episode was in color also. If you have the "Grit" TV channel, Laramie is shown incessantly.
Okay, got it. Thanks!! It had not even occurred to me to check when Laramie did its run. I remember the two different Peacock logos based completely on the shows that they preceded. For instance, the first peacock (announcer: Ben Grauer) ran with the first Fred Astaire special in 1958; the 1960 videotape of Peter Pan; the series finale of Howdy Doody (1960, in living color); Your Hit Parade, Steve Allen, a special starring Cyd Charisse, and the Dinah Shore Chevy Show. Everything else was post-1962, and that was the Laramie peacock (announcer: Mel Brandt) that I know well.
I have that 1960 Howdy Doody on VHS (great quality), but have never seen the Peacock intro on the Peter Pan. Is it the usual Ben Grauer, or something dubbed over, like Howdy Doody & this very YT video here? Is it available on YT?
Excellent

LENA HORNE Singing is superb ... this melody of songs should be on CD, and MISS HORNE is still a delight to the eyes. ****
I thought that the "Laramie Peacock" would be used by the time this aired. Were both animated NBC Peacocks interchangeable at this time?
