Here's my thing: I like g3 bodies and g1 clothing. My only issue is that their Monster High dolls. In the g3 iteration their very cutesy. I like some of the newer details in g3, but less is more for these new dolls.
In general I think all of them are 50/50 for me. Like you guys said, body wise G3 served and keep serving everything, but clothes? And SHOES? What the actual hell are G3 shoes, it is such a step backwards from G1. Overall I think both gens are unic enough to fight for themselves and G2 should burn in a firepit ❤ And may I say how safe I feel in this channel? For me personally, I think frankie got a glow down, clawdeen got a major glowdown, draculaura got a glowdown (ONLy the the original draclaura, the creeproductions face is wonky), twyla personaly got a glowup, lagonna got the biggest glowdown, abby is equalized but G1 abbys outfits are SO MUCH BETTER, venus got a glowup, Cleo is in the middle, Ghoulia had such a glowdown

Gosh im so excited for the new venus mcflytrap! I want her so bad 😭 i had "aged out" of dolls by the time g1 came around so i never owned any. Now that i am an adult ive enjoyed buying all the dolls i couldnt have as a kid. Im loving g3, i feel like their faces are so much more expressive than g1 ( although the g1 faces are beautiful) anyway i love them all and am just loving collecting dolls 😊 love love your reviews!

The main gripe I have with g3 Lagoona is how her face sculpt just looks so generic. In g1, she was very much giving fish (not in a drag way). She also had a flat nose, which isn’t something I see a lot in dolls nowadays.

I don't mind the differen in styles but i do wish that they kept the original concept of the characters and just turn them from the gothic vibes to whimsical style without changing their personalities and special quirks. I don't like what they did to everyone's characters. Bear (bare?) with me, I haven't even touched the new show, but good lord. Everyone was just so cool and actually felt like monsters. Monster high was one of the few things I could watch as an alt kid, that was cool and my style. And now everything feels more human?? If that makes sense? Like if I take a look at Clawdeen, she went from the cool nice girl, to a nerdy weirdo. Ghoulia looks more…cool. Poor Lagoona. Cleo looks less "richest girl in school", and more like "cute things I got off SHEIN". I like that they have new bodies, but did their entire styles have to change? I hope they release the locker things for Abbey and Venus though, I like their styles.
I like g3 base dolls so much more overall, the bodies are great and the molds much more interesting than g1, but the fashion is truly not giving while g1 looks were all a SEEEERVE! I really think G3’s fashion is what’s taking away from it, especially for g1’s aficionados
I prefer G1 Clawdeen's face. G3 Clawdeen has a nice face, but she just looks so young. She doesn't look old enough to be in high school. For Frankie and Lagoona, I prefer G1. G3 Frankie's neck is too short. For Draculaura, Venus, and Cleo, I like G1 and G3 both equally. For Abbey, Deuce, and Clawd I prefer G3. Mostly, I'm just happy we are getting all these wonderful dolls.
There’s a lot of things like Ghoulia’s original coloring and various dolls having different clothing aesthetics that I know was changed because of research with today’s kids. The kids were very against a doll with grey skin, so I think that we may not see any playline doll with grey skin. So I wonder how much is responding to a different generation and how much is unnecessary changes to iconic dolls.
G1 all the way imo, even the pets are better in G1. I find the G3 pets hideous, big heads and too friendly looking. They are all suppose to be ghouls after all! The only thing I like better in G3 is the chest articulation.
Kinda 50/50, I find myself preferring the new doll models a lot. So I would say for me is G1 for the fashion and their concepts (just look at the pets, G1 Twyla's was amazing, very on theme) and G3 for the new models.
As a Fine Art graduate, I feel the line that "She can be any race", may refer to she can be a plant monster, an orc, a goblin, a mutant (She-Hulk) or any fantasy race, rather than ethnic race. Or I'm just probably over analyzing things again.
That's a interesting point! but I believe Orc's are slightly black coded too (in certain games) as well how elf's can be Asian or white coded. All of these fantasy creatures facial feature can be trace back to some real life race art wise. I could be wrong but just from observation

Gurl you guys are tripping thinking G3 clawd is better then G1. The face sculpt wise... im shocked lol ( drama) Also clawdeen... imean i cant tell you G3 face isnt super cute but G1 clawdeen face is so iconic (when done well) Also her fashion! My 3 main issues with her G3 is: hair color, too childish clothing and just over all needs more Bad B energy cause otherwise she's just reminding me of her little sister. Also Cleo is hard one since I miss the bangs so much from Gen one and the tinsel, no matter how annoying it is. Also the black hair needs a comeback at least for one doll for G3 but Gen 1 eye wonk was out of control lol I think they should do a collectors edition line where they use the gen 3 base doll and make them cosplay gen 1 with slight tweaked color palette to the clothing, so it would be more cohesive. I honestly thing there is pros and cons in both but they just need to be mixed together for the ultimate MH dolls tbh
G1 Clawd is so hideous to me... Love him on the show but releasing him with a completely different outfit to match School's Out Draculaura was a choice... Like if he got another doll with the Monster High jacket it would've been fine but he didn't. 😭
I gave Ghoulia Ruby's red vinyl skirt temporarily, but, yes, she needs pants eventually. Too much pink. I didn't collect MH originally, so this is my first venture into it and it's tough. The originals had the horror effect, yet these new dolls are just so pretty.

as a Draculaura fan and i mean a HUGE Draculaura fan. i love gen1 and gen3 Draculaura equally when it comes to the doll. (the show and movies are a whole other case for all of the characters)
I like G1 Heath better than G3. Hair, face, skin tone and clothes. All the other boy dolls go to G3. This was loads of fun! Pet commentary had me cackling.

Green skin and neck bolts a la Frankenstein is copyrighted by Universal. Mattel originally had collaborated with them for g1 Frankie but they aren’t for g3. That’s why they had to change Frankie.
I think outfit wise Frankie got a glow down and it sucks that copyright issues lost them their neck bolts and green skin (but the blue does look great). Their core refresh thoo actually slays! Clawdeen also down outfit wise, we still not there yet but getting better (especially since G1 Clawdeen is literally my girl next to Drac and Ghoulia). I'm one of those who isn't a fan of pink Lagoona, like she looks great but it does suck that Aussies lost one of the few reps they have in American stuff (Its actually weird how often it happens). Obviously nothing against latinas but like they also made Claude and Clawdeen latina instead of black/african origin, and there's a bunch of others like Skelita? IDK . Lagoona specifically doesn't make much sense cuz like ain't she still from the Great Scarrier Reef? I could go on but it's not that deep. She's still fantastic and both the dolls look great even if I prefer G1. It was great seeing all the comparisons!
The only thing I like about g3 more than g1 is the diversity, other than that I still prefer g1 as someone who has grew up with monster high and has been here since g1

I really like g3 abbey’s body and face but those clothes are just not it. Hopefully her SS4 doll has better clothes but I’m skeptical because of the ballerina themed thing, but let’s hope for the best Also i agree with the other commenter that said a g3 Ghoulia core refresh is much needed. I didn't like G1, only because of the bodies. But to be fair, I didn't look into them enough. I wasn't collecting when they came out. But I actually have a respect for them now that I've learned more & have 3 collector dolls with G1 bodies. Along with quite a few G3.

Twyla : maybe a bit of a hot take but a tiny glow down. I do love g3s colors, but something about the face puts me off? And I am not a fan of the pink hands, I wish they were a deep purple gray to match the Smokey markings.
Frankie : this one is hard cause I wasn’t a big fan of her in general. I like the colors on g3 but the outfit is better on g1.
Cleo : glow up, the body is gorgeoussssssss, I do kinda miss the bands but I think the side part is nice anyway.
LaGoona : she’s my favorite, so this is kinda hard, but I agree, g3 is a glow up 😭 I love her face ,all the colors, and the outfit and HER SHOES. And so far all of her new dolls have been wins (for me). ALSO NEPTUNA, the cutieeeee
Ghoulia : glow down p-p I just am missing the red and the more zombie esk sculpt. It’s just missing the zombie.

My 3 main issues with her G3 is: hair color, too childish clothing and just over all needs more Bad B energy cause otherwise she's just reminding me of her little sister.
Also Cleo is hard one since I miss the bangs so much from Gen one and the tinsel, no matter how annoying it is. Also the black hair needs a comeback at least for one doll for G3 but Gen 1 eye wonk was out of control lol
I think they should do a collectors edition line where they use the gen 3 base doll and make them cosplay gen 1 with slight tweaked color palette to the clothing, so it would be more cohesive.
I honestly thing there is pros and cons in both but they just need to be mixed together for the ultimate MH dolls tbh

Technically g1 always had molded wraps just not on Cleo it was the CAM mummy doll but g2 definitely made it a staple for Cleo and Nefera Going forward

I gave Ghoulia Ruby's red vinyl skirt temporarily, but, yes, she needs pants eventually. Too much pink. I didn't collect MH originally, so this is my first venture into it and it's tough. The originals had the horror effect, yet these new dolls are just so pretty.

as a Draculaura fan and i mean a HUGE Draculaura fan. i love gen1 and gen3 Draculaura equally when it comes to the doll. (the show and movies are a whole other case for all of the characters)
they both are quite good in different ways honestly, maybe one day we will get a g4 that combines the best of both worlds

Green skin and neck bolts a la Frankenstein is copyrighted by Universal. Mattel originally had collaborated with them for g1 Frankie but they aren’t for g3. That’s why they had to change Frankie.
I think outfit wise Frankie got a glow down and it sucks that copyright issues lost them their neck bolts and green skin (but the blue does look great). Their core refresh thoo actually slays! Clawdeen also down outfit wise, we still not there yet but getting better (especially since G1 Clawdeen is literally my girl next to Drac and Ghoulia). I'm one of those who isn't a fan of pink Lagoona, like she looks great but it does suck that Aussies lost one of the few reps they have in American stuff (Its actually weird how often it happens). Obviously nothing against latinas but like they also made Claude and Clawdeen latina instead of black/african origin, and there's a bunch of others like Skelita? IDK . Lagoona specifically doesn't make much sense cuz like ain't she still from the Great Scarrier Reef?
I could go on but it's not that deep. She's still fantastic and both the dolls look great even if I prefer G1. It was great seeing all the comparisons!

I really like g3 abbey’s body and face but those clothes are just not it. Hopefully her SS4 doll has better clothes but I’m skeptical because of the ballerina themed thing, but let’s hope for the best

I didn't like G1, only because of the bodies. But to be fair, I didn't look into them enough. I wasn't collecting when they came out. But I actually have a respect for them now that I've learned more & have 3 collector dolls with G1 bodies. Along with quite a few G3.
