Thank you very much for this detailed review! There are barely any reviews out there for it, so it is great to finally see one aside from the one made by the B&O employee. I have had the H9 3rd Generation (upgraded from Sony WH-1000XM3) for a couple of months now, and I agree it is much better overall than the usual offerings from Bose or Sony. It definitely deserves much more attention than it currently has.
Fantastic review... You know what you'r talking about 👍 I'm a Sony fan since my first Walkman, but I prefer the H9 gen. 3 over my Sony WH1000XM4 because of the great wide soundstage and the more precise base. Sony has more features... But B&O delievers the better sound, imho! 😉
Thanks for your Kind words Edward, and I m glad you like your B&O 3rd Gen , yes you are right it has huge soundstage and better instrument separation ability for a close back and Bluetooth headphones 🎧
lol I'm watching countless videos looking for something a to replace my XM4s with. I like them, but I too find the soundstage a little narrow and the bass is also a little weak on the low end but too boomy and muddy on the mid-bass range. They're also a tiny bit shrill/sharp (sibiliant) on the highs. What do you think of the h9s?
Hi btw I noticed that B&O seems to have improved the sound of the H6 1st Gen after some time. I now own two 1st Gens, one is the later (or latest) edition (in a blue, grey colorway) and the other one was from the earlier days telling by the serial number and timestamp. The blue, later version of the H6 1st Gen is defintely less bass shy whilst still offering the great, wide mids. The other, older 1st Gen on the other hand, only have this "light" or "shy" bass no matter how long I use them. I've tested both with a Fiio K5 Pro and K3, of course using no EQ and only neutral/flat settings overall. Both DACs can I highly recommend for use with B&O headphones btw.
Very good review! I started with the H6 2nd Gen and was blown away. Especially when using the FiiO K5 Pro with it, it was awesome. But the H9 3rd were defintely a step up, even though I must admit that I don't like to call them a "step-up" as, at least in my opinion, every B&O product has its very own, specific usecase and signature which makes it unique and perfect for what they should achieve. I recently found an amazon review (german) with a frequency response curve for the H9 3rd gen and it just underlines how flat (or "dull" as some like to call it) these headphones are when using a wired connection. I can highly recommend using them with a good headphone amp as this is where they truly shine.

I was really disappointed when i purchased H9 3rd Gen but sound improved after few days of use.
Sure Azeem , in fact on “ Head-Fi” lots of members have asked the same question about How Beoplay H6 2nd generation sound against original Beoplay H6 , one of the best headphones 🎧

I doubt I will gain much usage at home where I have Focal Clears which are far superior to the H6 2nd and probably to H9-3rdGen as well.
Hi , at home even Focal Elear are better than both H6 and H9 3rd Gen .., H6 were a surprise for audiophile as it was giving tough time to Denon 5200 and 7200 at fraction on price , now I have Focal Utopia which surly I can’t take with me outside as outside I need something convenient during travel that’s where h9 3rd gen steps in ...the only difference you will have between H9 and Clear is soundstage where clear has pin point images H9 delivers good wide and tall soundstage but not as clear as clear does, lol 😂

@@aconfusedaudiophile6891 Hi, thanks a lot, it does help to get to understand how these things work, I am quite satisfied with the sound I get over bluetooth but now that apple music supports HiRes Audio streaming I ordered a USB-C to 3.5mm audio jack that claims to have up to 24-bit/192kHz, from my test the soundstage is certainly more pronounced. Good day, very nice review, can you please tell us your experience from Band & Olufsen headphones, please inform us if leather ear pads of B&O endures/last thru time?? Please advise me, thank you
All ear pads eventually need replacement, and the B&O pads are especially easy to replace, but that said, I've had some B&O h2s sitting in a drawer unprotected for 7 years now, and just had a look, and they're like new.
@@aconfusedaudiophile6891 Yeah I pulled them out to give em a listen, and they’re dark, bassy, but don’t seem to lack in the detail, which is tough to get right in a headphone, with a huge sound, they don’t sound as small as they are. I might put em back in rotation! You were a big reason I got the H9 3rd gens, and they are absolutely amazing. There’s usually some usability sacrifice with something like this, that they sound terrible wired, or you have to have on ANC to get good sound, or things like that, but these, I can go wireless, I can plug em into a Dragonfly Red, they have this sound that reminds me of what it felt like to first wear decent headphones (back in the 90s, it was a pair of Beyerdynamic Dt990s, 600 ohm.).
Hi....nice vid By the way does the power button switch rattle on your device. I bought mine Yesterday and the power switch keeps wobbling and rattling.....i was wondering if it is only my pairs or are all of them like this

Hi, I have a question about sound volume comparison beetween H9 3gen. and H6 2gen. So I used to listen music with my H6 2gen for 3 years, and I just upgraded to the H9 3gen to realise that the Volume feels generally lower (or almost generally). When I connect the H9 3gen, wired to the computer (Macbook) then the max Volume is more than enough, but with Bluetooth connection or wired connection to iPhone.... well Max volume is radically lower. I do realise that this depends on Impendance and Sensitivity specs, so I made a comparison between them, and strangely I found out that the H9 has lower Impendance then the H6, but the H6 has on the other side a higher sensitivity then . So... what is happening here? Why with Bluetooth is Volume compared to H6 and to H9 wired connected soooo much lower? Also, why h9 even wired connected to iPhone is lower then the H6 wired to iPhone? I do realise that DAC can be a solution.... but spending 500$ and then having to carry around a DAC to listen on the way with my phone sounds ridiculous. Interested to hear your opinion, let me now and thanks for your review
Hi Redon , I suggested DAC in this video cos I always want best out of my all headphones 🎧... and there are so many audio enthusiasts across the world who still ask one question “ How this sound to Beoplay H6 ?” Trust me this a very common question online as H6 set benchmark for B&O and even if you look on online forums people still ask after B&O released £700 Beoplay H95 couple of months ago. Now the issue you raised is due to Bluetooth. Check EQ on your phone Meanwhile read this , this might help you forum.beoworld.org/forums/t/25305.aspx Thanks for watching 😊
@@aconfusedaudiophile6891 Yes I have already seen that post, probably read already all the discussion about this topic online😂 The reason why I am asking you is because you seamed to have experience with previous models and h9. How do you feel about the volume level? Can you compare the volume of the h6 wired on a smartphone (maybe iPhone) vs h9 wired? Did you feel also this issue with H9 Bluetooth connection with different devices?
Hey Redon , yes when i put on this I noticed this volume level isuue and when I update software when H95 came out it was fine but as still this question arise than I need some time to evaluate all my headphones 🎧 And I promise you I will make a follow up video , as when you look at comments here just like online forums on Head-Fi and others few people asked me how’s these and H95 compare to H6 and H6 2nd Generation. Merry Christmas 🎄 to you and your loved ones.
When the H9 3rd Gen is powered on and being used via Bluetooth/USB-C there's an inbuilt volume limit in the headphones so they sound much quieter, when being used in analog with the 3.5mm cable there's no limit regardless of power on or off.
It charges with usb C , if your source is new Mac with usb c than you need an Audio/Data adapter not sure with android phones with usb c so can’t comment on that. Thanks for watching Happy Listening
@@aconfusedaudiophile6891 perfect. Mine are currently in transit. Yes I would be using with mac USB-C. But I most interested if it supports iPhone using type-c to lightning. Will find out soon.
Yes because ANC is off and H9 3rd are much quieter due to its capability of block noise , it’s different in H95 the sound is much louder due to low impedance of 12 Ohm
Hi there. Thanks for the review. With the H9 3rd gen they have a fixed battery so, if the battery goes wrong, then you have to replace the whole headset. Is that correct?

Great review well done.I have these and did have H4. These are not really phones as I once knew them. They are too heavy and can be worn for no more than 90 mins. They are wildly overpriced. They are all about the electronics. I do generally like B&O but they are not what I regard as true Hi Fi in my view, like British and US separates are.Too bassy, unnatural sound, but it seems many others are the same.I should a stuck to H4, But they broke, after EIGHT days light use!...JOKE...The ANC is horrible and ruins the sound although it can be turned off. There's then H95 and yet another model at $1400 aimed squarely at fools with more money than sense.Smooth and warm is correct, ie processed.

@@aconfusedaudiophile6891 Great thanks
Anytime Henry 😀
So when you plug it in via the cord, do you have the headphones turned off? or do you have it turned on while also listening to it with the cord?
Hey Aaron , Both ways are fine , but when you use external Dac , the prefer setting is to turn off your Beoplay I hope that it answers your question
Hi, great review! I'm looking for a loud and quality headphones, do you think these could be great? I'm going to use them with my smartphone and I can buy them for 250€. Thank you!
This is a good product not sure what you mean by loud as when the ANC is on you can’t hear outside noise so it’s only you and your music
Also please update the app to get full advantage of the headphones 🎧
@@aconfusedaudiophile6891 Thank you for answering my question. When I say loud I mean that the volume is high enough for when you want to push a little more. I've had some headphones (like the Bowers & Wilkins P3) where the volume peak was really weak for me and I would like to avoid it. Thank you!
Hi Matteo , H9 3rd gen had this issue but was resolved after software update on app , another thing is when it’s 100% charged it’s not loud enough but soon as it hits 99% it’s fine.
HI, nice review, do you know the sampling rate of the internal DAC on the device?
Hi Tosin , there is no measurement provided for internet DAC but it’s a Bluetooth headphone so it can play everything in Lossy codecs however when i connected with my external DAC it supports Lossless through Wire ( Audio Cable ) but here things are bit tricky as it has house sound but outcome is affected by the sound signature of External Dac..
I hope I answered your question.. thought as a confused Audiophile way as I still don’t consider myself as a hardcore Audiphile
Thanks for watching and your comment

@@aconfusedaudiophile6891 Hi, thanks a lot, it does help to get to understand how these things work, I am quite satisfied with the sound I get over bluetooth but now that apple music supports HiRes Audio streaming I ordered a USB-C to 3.5mm audio jack that claims to have up to 24-bit/192kHz, from my test the soundstage is certainly more pronounced. I wish you a nice weekend!
Great review!! Btw they just came out with Beoplay HX, could you please do a review of that and with comparison along Beoplay H9 3rd gen? And could you also pls provide a link to the amplifiers you used to test the H9 3rd gen with wired connection? I’d really appreciate it!
Hi Aryaman, I m planning to do review on both HX and H95. Bit busy with work and other bits at the mo , my Amps are Chord Mojo and Focal Arche where I connect Chord Qutest DAC sometimes for better out of my Arche as it has very good Dac chip already but I still prefer Fluid sound of Chord Dacs .. hope that helps ..

@@aconfusedaudiophile6891 okayy, that sounds great! Thank you so much!!💯

Good day, very nice review, can you please tell us your experience from Band & Olufsen headphones, please inform us if leather ear pads of B&O endures/last thru time?? Please advise me, thank you
Hello Panoslk1 , as you can see in my video all pads are original since I bought em so fortunately it wasn’t a problem for me.
All ear pads eventually need replacement, and the B&O pads are especially easy to replace, but that said, I've had some B&O h2s sitting in a drawer unprotected for 7 years now, and just had a look, and they're like new.
@@Apollostowel H2's are my fave ... beautiful sound with lots of detail.
@@Apollostowel thank you very much Apollo, I already ordered H95 and I am expecting them end of month. Thank you again
Fantastic video! Thanks!

Hi....nice vid
By the way does the power button switch rattle on your device.
I bought mine Yesterday and the power switch keeps wobbling and rattling.....i was wondering if it is only my pairs or are all of them like this
Thanks Shreyansh for watching ,
I can assure you that mine doesn’t rattle or wobble please return em and get another pair of headphones 🎧 I m sure B&O will take it back straight away.

Check EQ on your phone
Meanwhile read this , this might help you

Thanks for watching 😊
@@aconfusedaudiophile6891 Yes I have already seen that post, probably read already all the discussion about this topic online😂 The reason why I am asking you is because you seamed to have experience with previous models and h9. How do you feel about the volume level? Can you compare the volume of the h6 wired on a smartphone (maybe iPhone) vs h9 wired? Did you feel also this issue with H9 Bluetooth connection with different devices?
Hey Redon , yes when i put on this I noticed this volume level isuue and when I update software when H95 came out it was fine but as still this question arise than I need some time to evaluate all my headphones 🎧
And I promise you I will make a follow up video , as when you look at comments here just like online forums on Head-Fi and others few people asked me how’s these and H95 compare to H6 and H6 2nd Generation.
Nice video man. Quick question does it support audio over USB type-c?
It charges with usb C , if your source is new Mac with usb c than you need an Audio/Data adapter not sure with android phones with usb c so can’t comment on that.
Thanks for watching

@@aconfusedaudiophile6891 perfect. Mine are currently in transit. Yes I would be using with mac USB-C. But I most interested if it supports iPhone using type-c to lightning. Will find out soon.
Shouldn’t be a problem as long as it’s an audio cable.
Congratulations
Very Good Video! Thank you very much
You are welcome!
Would you recommend listening via 3.5 jack with the power turned on or off. It makes a difference but I can't decide which sounds better.
Turn off the Bluetooth , H9 3rd Gen has an inbuilt DAC which is surprisingly really good for a Bluetooth headphones 🎧
And also try with your USB C charging cable to your pc or Mac 🖥
@@aconfusedaudiophile6891
Thanks!
But with the power to.the headphones off?
I've noticed the volume is much louder to my laptop.
Yes because ANC is off and H9 3rd are much quieter due to its capability of block noise , it’s different in H95 the sound is much louder due to low impedance of 12 Ohm
And it uses the Dac from your laptop
Hi there. Thanks for the review. With the H9 3rd gen they have a fixed battery so, if the battery goes wrong, then you have to replace the whole headset. Is that correct?

How do these compare to Shure Aonic 50?
Hey Timothy , both of em are completely different in terms of sound signature.. purely depends on your personal music taste. Thanks for watching😊
@@aconfusedaudiophile6891 Hi. How different is the sound signature? B&O being more bass heavy and Aonic being Flat/neutral? Or?
Is it still worth it to buy it now? Since there has been new upgrades? Never been an audiophile but fell into this loophole.
Hi Mel O , it depends what sort of music you like , what’s your budget I still encourage you to check out these ones and others yourself.

Should i buy 399 aud bose 700 or 599 h9 ?
I would encourage you to try them both, as Bose 700 are good headphones too , surprisingly very clean sounding compare to Bose QC 35ii.
I have 1st gen H6.
It sound better than my Sony 1Am2, Senheiser Momentum 2.0 & Philips 9500.
The cleanest of all

Buy these new for 170 on cex
Reply to your deleted comment: Yep, everything I've bought grade A has been new!
Yes it’s grade A but still second hand and CEX don’t sell new my friend , and also at Grade A it is a bargain price .. well done 👏 I think it will help most people here who consider this to buy.As CEX also offers 24 months warranty.
Thanks for your input and thanks for watching
@@aconfusedaudiophile6891 Yes not 1st hand but sealed most of the time, so I'd personally define that as new! A lot of these were sold on as they came bundled with oppo phones last year! No worries, a bargain for that price!
Yes specially it’s over-ear so has upper hand interns of hygiene unlike earphones
Yes I think someone has mentioned he got it as gift when he purchased his new mobile phone contract .
Ldac ??
Sound Codecs
aptX™ Low Latency, AAC, SBC, CvC
Hope that helps , rest you can find on B&O website
Great headphones and excellent noise cancelling, but regarding the public transport comment, I would never use a high end pair of headphones like this on a bus or local train - these are for sitting at home and savouring the sound imo!
Hey Geoff that’s true , I was thinking the same when I bought em , but this one are very addictive and also good build so wouldn’t be a problem.

Hey Graeme , glad you like this review and also thanks for your input.
ANC is Shit! i have the Beoplay H95
Oh No , I haven’t tried Beoplay H95 yet but I think if there is any manufactur defect they have really good return or exchange policy
Sooo...you sayn you are a AUDIO guy but end with " People buy B&O to show off " =)))
Returned mine - they are junk!
Hey Adam , thanks for your input , could you be more specific what you didn’t like ( Sound Wise ) that would be more helpful for for us
