Rick and Korbin, video is ok, but there is NO term for slave in Indian ancient history. Dasi is not slave. Ancient India was predominantly open society. There was no concept of Divorce in marriages. Women could leave the relationship any time they wish for. Rigidity of cultural/caste/slave concepts arrive during Mughal and British periods of rule. As they(british/Mughal) started interpreting texts/symbols/structures of the Indian society based on their(british/Mughal) understanding of the culture in their(british/Mughal) home country. best example is how varna system wrongly interpreted to became caste by Mughals and British. Here is what Shashi Tharoor said about caste system Tharoor considered the British responsible for giving a final shape to the caste system. He said, “We had castes, we did not have the caste system. The British were the ones who had actually codified, entrenched and classified our country and our people in the way that we have since then started self-defining ourselves in ways that the British did for us.” He further said, “Caste had been much fuzzier, a much more fungible identity in the past. The whole notion of the Chatur Varna system being imposed as the only way India was supposed to be was because of the British looked at it that way. So the Brits in the entire process of trying to understand India, classified and codified things - it was a means for controlling India.”
I know they say it casually and don't mind it but as Indians, it hurts 😅 I will break the jaw of anyone who says such things about my mom lol (even in jest)
Interesting to note, the item girl culture in Indian cinema finds it's origins in the Devadasis and Nartakis, as well as Tawaifs(who performed "mujra") who were the so called "sex-workers" of the time.

Well slavery was banned in India except when Britishers and foreign invaders ruled here and when shivaji was king he again abolished slavery way before anyone else in the west 👍
I recommend you to watch the critically acclaimed "Mogamul" Tamil movie directed by Gnana Rajasekharan which may give an idea about the post independent situation that you have discussed in the video. Mogam means lust and mul means thorn. It is about sexuality, societal expectations and social stratification.
As society grows more and more resourceful and rich, there comes a need to protect wealth in the community. And hence that requires control of women. Since India has caste based society, the resource mobilization needs to be stopped by controlling women to restrict them to do inter caste marriage. And hence protect mobilization. It creates a caste community of privilege. So after this background I wanted to say, that upper caste women were more prudish, and controlled, than lower caste. All these stories you hear is regarding lower caste women, that you call progressive. Even today the tribal community of India has more progressive rituals than other India. Most women still don't wear blouse or bra. In some tribal communities safe houses are provided for teenagers to have safe sex. No dowry concept, many of these are matrilineal society. Even today the upper caste women are more controlled than lower caste women. Also because lower caste women has to work outside in fields and also as labours, so they can't keep the veil and behave in certain way. Women in my village are very brash, they will call police on their husbands in a minute... They still have more agency than upper caste women. But of course doesn't have privileged life as UC women...

For having such a sex positive past, modern India with its prostitution ban and all the taboo around sex has rather been abrahamised way too much
The rigid sanatan dharma and it's brahmin proponents are also responsible in the later ages as they were colliding and took forward victorian morality in India
Because of a 1000 years of Abrahamic influence.
