      @@juliaheinritz3264Hey man, since you have a similar set up of fish like I do, I just wanted to ask you about the pearl gouramis.
      I was planning on getting three (one male, two females) so I am curious if they show much aggression? I’ve read that they are generally peaceful but I’ve had bad experiences with dwarf gouramis before in terms of aggression.

    • @juliaheinritz3264
      @juliaheinritz3264 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @MrTickles445 Yes I agree. Some of the Gouramis can be stinkers. I have had Honey Gouramis that are supposed to be pretty nice. Out of 3 one was such a bully, to the other Gouramis and also terrorized the H. Rasborad in my 29 gallon. I now put him in the 75 g with 'the big boys' and he's doing great! Go figure! When I was first adding fish to the 75 gallon I got two female pearls. They really picked on each other and I almost returned one to the LFS. Then as I added more fish, they calmed down. Now they are doing great! They sure are beautiful fish. Have fun!

    I have 10 in my 75 gallon community tank. I ordered them on line as fry, they grew out first in a 20 gallon by themselves with filtration that wouldn't suck them up until they were big enough and they've been doing great ever since. One of my favorite species.

    I paired 6 of these guys with 2 kribs, an orange and bluish dwarf guarami and a young Angel. If the angel outgrows the tank later this year I plan on moving him over to a 55 gallon but for now the community is getting along quite well. One of my rainbow kribs is a bit dominant which is why I chose the congas over a cardinal tetra school and the Congas have held their own and have established themselves very nicely. Their color against a blue neon light at night coupled with their activity has been pleasant to watch. Great suggestion!

    I have them in my 50 gallons (190 litres) since exactly one year ago, together with a Bristlenose and they are absolutely fantastic - They are peaceful, absolutely not picky about food (albeit their favourite seem to be insects and larvas: throw frozen or freeze-dried Chironomus for a feeding frenzy!), but above else their colours are absolutely stunning: my local fish shop, where I also have bought them, keep them in a planted tank with Pearl Gouramis and it's a sight to behold, to the point it make a staunchy competition for the reef tank in the same room. I actually keep the male/female ratio skewed to the latter, seems like the former tend to furtherly enhance their colours in such setting.
    Only problem is their size and gregarious behaviour make them unsuitable for small tanks: I'd never put them in any less than a 40 gallons / 150 litres for a species-only tank, apart from that they truly are a magnificient species, expecially for whose (like me) particularly liking small schooling fish.

    Hi Jason,
    I have 18 of these in a 125 with some geos, and some plecos. I have a lot of water flow in the tank that is created by the FX-6 and two other canister filters. I heard someone on TH-cam say that for long term health we don't want a lot of water current in the tank. Is that accurate? Also, one video said that dried oak leaves on the substrate are good for them. I also see the leaves in the tank in your video. What is the purpose of the leaves, and are they going to affect the other dish in a negative way? Thank you for all your videos. I learned a lot from you and your wife about fish keeping.

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Great questions - I don’t go super crazy with the flow. The botanicals at the bottom of the tank provide a more natural look and can sometimes lower the pH if KH is low. The tannins they release can benefit fish because they have antimicrobial properties.

In course of development one can actually observed development of embryo within. They need larger tank to breed. 20 long was ideal for me. Hey Jason. Came across a pair of orange chromide cichlids and got a pair in a 20 tall, but can’t seem to find out much about them. Any thoughts on maybe a species profile? I’m not familiar with brackish water fish and can they tolerate water without brackish conditions? I’ve tried to do my homework on them before I got them but couldn’t find much and had a vacant 20 tall with no center piece and found they stay relatively smaller I hope.

    I have a 29 gal tall that has been cycled and was started Oct. 8th and this is Jan. 17. So I am ready to stock my tank. My question is how may could I get? I also love the Dimond and the Lemond Tetra. do I have enough room for 6 of each? Please help

      I might stick with the diamond tetra and lemon and do 6-8 each. The congos might get a little large for a 29 gallon.

    These videos do not do justice for the colors on the Congo Tetra's, these fish need to be seen in person to really appreciate just how far the color spectrum goes with these guys. I always wondered why people liked this fish and then I was at a fish breeders house and he had a 75gal of nothing but Congo's, at first I didn't recognize the breed because I had never seen them in person, but then he told me what they were, and like I said the color spectrum on these fish is just awesome. If you're looking for a colorful schooling fish (think neon tetra, only bigger and more colorful) then try them out, you won't be disapointed if you have a large enough tank.
