  • There are no less than 500 disc options out there when you count just molds alone, but when plastic gets thrown into the mix....yikes. With so many options available, it's nearly impossible to like all of the discs out there. Finding which ones work for you and knowing which ones you dislike is huge to finding success in your game. In today's video, I might make some enemies, but I want to dive into some of my least favorite discs as well as explain to you why I dislike them to help you possibly flesh out some ideas on why you have molds/plastics you don't like! You'll have to watch to find out!!

Make a video where you play a round with discs you don't like and then a round with your favorite discs to truly see if it really is the archer not the arrows. 😊

I'm a zone and buzzz lover. I've got 2 zones and 3 buzzzes in my bag. So you've definitely lost me after this one.
No for real now, your content still is some of my favorite disc golf related stuff here on TH-cam. Also nobody else here has taught me nearly as much as you did over the years. So thanks for everything, Robbie.
Sending you lots of love to counteract all the hate you may get ❤😉

Hand feel is the number 1 confidence booster for me, especially plastic. I know I’m gonna get some hate but I was looking around the disc golf shop and said “oh look a passion, people really like these” as soon as I put it in my hand I said “nope” 😂

For me it's the Aviar. I had one as my first putter for years. The first time I tried a different mold I realized exactly how much I didn't like it. The rounded inside edge was super uncomfortable for me.

For me the sharp edge from nose part to the actual rim is what I do not like, I can use the mold though okay just there are better and worse putters out there.

The Nova. I think it came down to rim depth. On a fluke, I grabbed a Berg off the shelf like “what’s the fuss all about?” and instantly fell in love. I think for me it’s about being able to throw any disc in my bag on both forehand and backhand lines and the Nova just didn’t fit. Such a pretty flying disc though!
I think you are touching on something I tell young guitar players. It’s more important to have an instrument that fits you and feels right vs what you’re seeing others play.

I love this video. I think it’s why a manufacturer will have multiple of a really similar flight pattern of disc - take Innova’s Rat and Toro - because sometimes you just don’t like the way one works.
Or the way there are manufacturer families where you can choose multiple that are super similar like Trilogy’s Harp, Savior, Culprit, or Suspect - and then you get the really close but kinda different discs like Anvil, Anchor, Justice, Slammer, Sinus.

This is such a great video! As someone who is at late stage beginner phase, this video opened my eyes about simply putting some discs away for now. There are some that I can’t seem to get to work for me yet. I used to think it was just a waiting game before I get good enough to use them so I best bag them and throw them in order to get my practice in. I can’t wait to get down to the disc store and start reconsidering some of my current bag. Thanks, Robbie.

Great video Robbie! You addressed some things everyones been thinking but not saying! For me it’s gotta be the roc. Since disc golf’s creation everybody points to a roc along with other similar discs like the buzzz for a straight midrange but I’ve always found them to be slightly overstable instead of straight/neutral how they are described. And I’ve never really liked any beaded discs so the roc just really doesn’t fit the bill for me. I also love to throw forehands and even though on backhands they are a little overstable they flip right over on forehands. Not to mention the awful way it feels to grip a forehand with a beaded disc.

No hate just love…. This was a great video to call attention to the idea that some disks work well for some folks and some don’t. we all know it but we still try to bag discs that are impressive. The AGL Cedar is one disc that I just couldn’t get behind. Every time is saw one, the disc was so sharp and the rim was awkward. Due to the unusual feel, you have to hold it tighter and then the sharp edge just gets you.

Sockibomb Slammer. Fell into the whole 'it doesn't glide' narrative and beat my head against a wall to try and make it work but it was just too deep for what I prefer. Used a Tempo during the Circuit challenge and LOVED the feel and just committed to it. Now I just need stock runs to come out so I can get more plastic types.

Tried out the Dagger in Latitude's Sense plastic. Disc felt super deep and longer approaches became almost impossible for me to make with that disc. Switched back to my Prime Judge and felt a lot more at ease with my putts and approaches.

Noah is crazy. The Volt is the best feeling disc in the world. One of mine is the Shryke. I can occasionally push them out past 400’ on a forehand, but I’m just as likely to burn them over or launch them way up in the air. Can’t seem to control the nose angle. The Berg is another. I love it for backhand. I love the flight I get from it on forehand, but it hangs up and late releases a lot. I’m doing some Berg only forehand rounds right now to see if I can figure it out. Because when it comes out clean it’s the absolute straightest forehand disc I’ve ever thrown out to around 225’.

    • @caseysmith544
      @caseysmith544 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

I have done this too, kept spaces between speeds with molds in the slot they fill except from a Valkyrie to Dragon as those are almost the same mold, but have for Dragon backup discs lightweight DX Valkyrie around upper 140's for backup as in 2021 when I was going to get the backup mold, the discs had on some shops showing actual weight that they were 160 grams and did not float in the tests at the shop from regular production runs, so for the disc I use for water/tailwind bombers I got for backup, cheap F2 upper 140 gram DX Valkyrie discs for this slot. Hopefully not being a R Pro that is less durable then regular DX, the discs will last longer when need to get the backups out for the DX Dragon I am using now.

I’ve just been into disc golf for about 6 months. I have hit the used bin at my local shop pretty hard trying to find what works for me. Sometimes I stand there and say maybe I should just learn to throw what I have better instead of trying yet another disc, but it really is up to trial and error. I got the Polecat a while back, but it looks like I putt better with a fan grip. That deep rim isn’t very easy to throw with that grip as you mentioned. I keep trying it but mostly leave it in the bag. Part of the fun of the game! Thanks Robbie.

2 years in and I can say you sound just like I did when I was 6 months in my first year I found a small company making rubber discs. I bought they're whole line up and just played those four discs people laughed at me but I learned how to throw those discs at every angle I threw each disc a thousand times now they are a staple in my bag the second year I bought 7 clash discs and used them with the rubber and I have gone from there to just collecting discs and learning new ones but one thing for sure is I have to have it feel good on release period. Keep at it I am playing around par every time out good days and bad but always a blast!! I am playing in an event this weekend and I feel like I can win! I am 62 years old yes an old man discin!!!

2 years in and I am 62 years old my best advice is to put 5 discs in your bag and learn every throw you can make with each disc and just use the same five molds for a year. Because each disc can give you so many different shots and trying to learn that and having to learn with each disc it gets confusing after 2 years I am up to 11 discs in my bag that I know what shot to take. I have 20 shots per disc so far lol play with what you got. Before buying a disc make sure it feels good in your hand. Have fun learning flights. old dude discin!

I in my early game used to love the l64 fuse. As a was starting in disc golf it flew very strait for me, but now 2 years later I've moved up into amateur level it has become understable. I think I have either: 1, Ruined it by shanking into many, many, many trees. Or 2, advanced from it. Or 3, a combo of both

It’s funny, I’m about the same size as you, but the deeper discs feel terrible in my hand. I feel like I have trouble keeping the nose down. The buzz and roc felt too deep but I instantly loved the hex. Saying that I do have a lucid judge for throwing and it feels way too deep but is by far my most consistent release. I may have to get more comfortable with the deeper rims.

Discraft Comet...I wanted to be able to throw this disc so bad but every time it was complete trash. I finally took it out and replaced it with a Sol. Even though the flight numbers are similar, the Sol just flies better.

I got a pro-d zone to give it a try and despised it. Went into my local shop and felt a z zone and thought it felt way better. Its in my bag and i enjoy it for the approach thats a little further than a pig shot.
My first putter was a classic aviar and i hate that thing. Ive tried throwing it ive tried putting with it, and I've tried selling it. Probably gonna send it along with the pro d zone to Jessie for recycling into an actual good disc.

To each their own, RC. Being a newer player, I'll be real quick to gravitate towards what feels good against my fingertips. I tried the Roc...hated it. I do like the Mako3 and Lion. I like the Buzzzs but not the Zones or Wasp. R-Pro Pig, feels real good in the hand and I like the flight path.

i love the mako3. used to throw buzzz and buzzz os (because buzzz gets understable quickly). now i throw the hex. it outdrives most of my fairways and feels good, not great, as a forehand. zone and buzzz os still better forehands.

My disc was the Hex. Everyone raved about it, and since I needed a mid, I went and picked one up. Just couldn't figure that one out. Tried it for several months on different courses/ shots, and it just wasn't for me. Gave it to my buddy who absolutely loves it.

Kaxe is probably the disc that's gone in and out of my bag the most. I got it last summer for glow golf, and I aced with it first time playing glow. It feels really nice in the hand, plastic feels great and it feels great when I grip it. But it's such an awkward disc for how I play. It's a bit too flippy to fill the gap of overstable fairway and it doesn't really fight back from an anhyzer enough to where it would be useful for me, a bit too fast for a mid. When it's windy I really don't trust it, and I still have a little too much OAT on my forehand for it to be useful there. So it's flight is just a jack of all trades between a cluster I have in my bag. So I'll remove it too make room in my bag, but I keep seeing it, become nostalgic to that first month using it, and then just bag it and never use it, until I eventually remove it and the cycle continues.
And on the flipside, when I first got the Glitch, I quickly dismissed it. I couldn't throw it at all, it turned over too much when I tried giving it power, it was way too deep for my hands etc, but this year I've forced my self to play with it and it's become one of my favorite discs. Started out with shorter approaches instead of a Berg, but now with better angle control I'll throw it off the tee too, and even use it for some sneaky approach forehands. Inside that 40m range it's basically a lazer on a forehand, "flipping the bird" grip with the slightest of hyzers and it will hit some crazy gaps. Before I would only forehand super os approach discs and fairways because of my oat, but now that I've gotten better I can now propperly Hyzerflip my Mockingbirds on a forehand thanks to the Glitch.

I don’t like the Buzzz. I tried and tried and tried. I even bought a Disc Store Bomb Pop Full color disc. Hated the way it felt in my hand. Just bought a Zone soft hoping to like it. LOVE THE PIG. The plastic in the Pro Line feels so good in my hand

All of the guys around my area are big on Innova, so Rocs and Mako3s are very popular. I don't like how they feel for me.
I like mids and own about 14 different molds. Once I felt the Hex I finally got my mid game down. I tried Buzzzs, ( and bag the OS for utility) but I don't like how those release for me either. I did throw a Pathfinder for a little while when I lost my first Hex and enjoyed that, but the Hex suits me best for anything mid range.

The Lat64 Sapphire: tried the Retro & Opto one, supposed to be an easy to throw disc, it ends up going super nose up for me (other drivers don't do that) and/or has more fade than my Grace...
The Fission Crave: I have the Bodanza Van stamp one, max weight, and that thing doesn't want to go straight, it's more OS than my Volt or Tesla... If I try my wife's one, ~150g, it's almost a roller even with ~30° of hyzer

It took me - FOREVER - to have the courage to say I didn’t like the Buzzz. Didn’t like it in my hand, unconfident in the air. I got an ESP Buzzz and felt mildly better about that in the air, but still didn’t feel confident nor like the hand feel at all. Was convinced something was wrong with me there for a while hahaha
Eventually replaced with a Compass and a Bounty. Never looked back.

I don't like a Buzzz at all either. It feels so big and clunky. K1 soft Berg is $$$, but I prefer the Watt. I haven't found anything like a Zone, but I have a Tempo coming today to test. Agreed that Nuke is too big for my hand, but the Nuke SS is great forehand. As for plastics, S Line, K1, and Soft Proton/Neutron, and Crystal FLX are among my favorite.
