    As someone who got into martial arts to become stronger, I didn’t truly feel stronger until I fixed a lot of internal issues of self esteem and emotional control. Nowadays I still do martial arts to keep my body strong, but it isn’t the source of my strength as a person

      It is different for many people, I’m not going to lie the increase in physicality gave me the biggest boost of self confidence I ever had. Part of it is because everything is tied together, I had a stronger healthier body, and that lead to a clearer mind and in turn it became a resonance loop, the healthier mind pushed for a healthier Body and vice versa.

    • @crabohato4954
      @crabohato4954 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +48

      I really do not like the idea that AnJ is JUST about the harsh reality of boxing. That is a very basic interpretation of AnJ's story. Throughout the story, we don't just see Joe suffering, we see him push back against it. Whenever Joe finds out he can't get his boxing license because of Danpei's past, the first thing he does is instigate a match with Wolf Kanagushi in hopes this would give him his licence. Whenever Rikishi decides to go through his severe weight cutting journey, it's solely because he wants to fight Joe in hopes of settling the score between them. He wants to beat Joe so that he can put their rivalry behind him, and instead focus on becoming a champion. Later on in the series, Joe goes through his own weight cut. The reason for his is that he wants to fight Jose Mendoza; not for the world champion belt, but just because he sees him as the "next Rikishi". So rather than folding to his weight loss for the sake of his health, he chooses to continue on for both Jose and the memory of Rikishi. Both Rikishi and Joe were so dedicated to their goals, they locked themselves in the same storage room in Shiraki gym in order to deprive themselves of everything and everyone. Whenever Rikishi dies, Joe goes through a long episode of depression where he decides to quit boxing. But after seeing a mentally broken Wolf who had his career cut short by him breaking his jaw, Joe decides to go back into the ring as it's really the only thing he's ever truly loved. Of course whenever Joe starts boxing again, he starts vomiting blood whenever he punches someone in the temple. The same place that Joe hit Rikishi, giving him a lethal brain hemorrhage. But instead of giving up there, instead of realizing that there's no way he can go back to boxing with the trauma of Rikishi still haunting him, he continues boxing so that he can hopefully get over Rikishi's death and fight Carlos. The cross counter, Joe's signature move, is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. It's a move which uses the momentum of someone's punch against them. It's delivering a risky, but massively powerful blow as a last resort. However, in order to land the counter, you have to be willing to get hit. You have to be willing to put your life in danger and endure the pain of your enemies' punch in order to win. Joe knew about the "dark side of boxing". He experienced it first hand countless times. But instead of quitting or giving up, he was willing to endure the pain and push back. Why? Because boxing is what he loved, the one thing he was really dedicated at. Boxing was a reminder to him of the important people he's met like Carlos, Rikishi, Danpei, etc. Jose was born to box, loved to box, and was willing to die in the ring if it meant boxing one last time

    People should still have dreams, dreams are the very reason why we do what we do, theyre a representation of who we want to become as a person, the only reason why people feel empty after achieving their dream is because they think they have already accomplished whats most important in their life, but in reality they still have so much to improve on, when one truly realises this, they have reached their goal.

    External solutions do solve internal problems...if you have the self awareness to link the two. Let's say you want confidence, you can't have it out of thin air and produce it internally from nothing. You actually have to become good at a lot of external things and then internally see that you're worthy of having confidence. Also imo Ippo's idea of strength is becoming mentally and physically tough. His dad's strength was his ability to sacrifice himself for others on that boat. Making the choice to give up your life and accepting that, is immeasurable. Ippo is risking his life in the ring for glory, his dad risked his life for his friends and family. He is the every day family man who works hard. I think that's the meaning. The every day man who goes to work can be a hero. You don't need to be the best or a champion to be strong.

    You know I think I understand why no one should chase dreams. Because they are not attainable for you. They are a dream that can never be grabbed. As for attaining a future is a different story, seeing what you can live with, knowing you can is what I think is what we all should do.

      That's what hawk says.
      Look, you can fix internal problems with external solutions. I agree. But not permanently.
      To fix them permanently, you need internal solutions.
      Tell you what,
      All good things must come to an end.
      You will not be the strongest all the time. But you can't just waste away the time you're not the strongest, because you have just one life and limited time to enjoy.
      Internal solutions can permanently fix your internally problems. You don't have to be the strongest if you have internal solutions for that.
      What's the solution to your problem?
      Live life and experience it. Soon you'll be wise enough to know. I can tell it to you right now but that's not gonna be any fun, not like it will even work for you because our minds work different.
