I think a lot of us guys want to have the last stand because for some they simply haven't found their purpose or themselves in life. Some of us men are lost in life so they find a purpose in death

I think that that has to deal with two main things men want out of life: purpose and respect. I think that for many men in modern times, they feel as if they have no purpose and so go about without aim in life to some extent. If one has no purpose, one has nothing to work towards, no goals and therefore will not earn respect in the eyes of their elders and peer group. At 26:19 you state that you think being in service to others is "a pretty good feeling," I think that's because it reaches back to need one: Purpose. By serving others, it gives us as men a purpose. This being seen as valuable when giving up their lives allows one to redeem themselves in death. In that brief moment in time they earn the two things they've wanted the most out of life. Giving up one's life for a greater cause gives them purpose and knowing that their memory will be honored is a form of respect from the peer group. It's basically a last ditch effort to redeem oneself on some level.

In the example of Benkei, the Fate series had him as one of the characters and while his characterization is different from what you would expect from him, he still embodies that self sacrifice thing in the arc that he was present in, that part really tingled my heart especially when you know he’s doing it to stop Yoshinaka, as their mind is corrupted

Nobody wants to die violently, but if there is no other option, what we want is for our death to serve a purpose, because at the end of the day that is what every man wants, to be useful to someone. Or for some cause greater than ourselves that our sacrifice helps to boost and improve the people we save, we want to be useful in life and in death and the way to achieve that is a death Violent

I'm tired of my self worth being tied to how I do my job, how on time I clock in or out, how I treat certain people in power, how I drive, eat, what I wear even down to how often I jerk off or what to I'm so full of pent up anger, I am so full of passion, of this need to unload everything I've got into a common enemy, and prove my worth to not just myself but the world by satisfyingly releasing all this tension, all this frustration, all this anger, to have a justification to finally go all out and earn the respect we'd never get otherwise
