Nawfal Khuram Chris Dosen't Like Talking About Thomas The Tank Engine or The Railway Series that Much Anymore as He Sees It As An Embarassment To Railfans, I Do Like The Thomas Franchise, But It's Best Not To Talk About It Around Him...
If you went by the newer television series, I would wholeheartedly agree with Chris, the newer television series is an affront to anyone who appreciates engines and railroads. The Rev. Audry would most likely agree as well, as he wanted his stories to contain a realm of realism to them. I have no issue with the book series or the early television series that were mainly based off the book stories, indeed, even as an adult I still find them enjoyable, but I cannot stomach the travesty that the television series has turned into.
Joshua Trammell I may never have grew up in 80s or 90s but I first got my introduction to trains because of the early series of Thomas the Tank Engine and I too find the new animated series very cringe worthy. It's like our friend the E2 cannot be enjoyed by older people anymore and just by two or three year olds
I was wondering when this one was coming. I knew you'd been out to Strathspey to record the sounds of this beauty for a certain "pre-Edwardian young gentleman" we both know well. So naturally, a Sole SLIP on this gorgeous machine was just a matter of time. Taking a guess, but may I presume that this trip also might have helped get material for a future 2MT SLIP? Their's does have a unique chime whistle, if memory serves. Interesting story behind them too. Pretty as they are, I'd always thought they were just another of the scores of Victorian 0-6-0 goods engines. But to hear that they were based on the SECR C Class (one of my favorites), and that they were so capable and long-lived, I can see why she's so well-liked. Also, kudos for managing to get through a whole video on the 812 Class without mentioning the contribution to their legacy of a particular railway reverend.
The chime whistle was a replica Reading 5 chime which was privately owned by a member of staff at the railway and sometimes was fitted to the Ivatt. It's since been sold. Her usual whistle is if some historical significance though, being of Great North of Scotland origin and one of only 2 known surviving ones (the other being fitted to "Gordon Highlander").
I think of Donald and Douglas, but also a very elegant goods loco. The GER may be the best railway to paint their locos blue, but the Caledonian Railway is a relatively close second.
I'm a simple man, when i see "Caledonian" i think "Donald and Douglas" Edit: does anyone know what happened to 828 as for 2021? Is she under overhaul or what?
Big little Railroad well most GER locos emerged in Ultramarine blue livery and this 812 isn't the only blue loco in preservation I mean has no one else seen the Y14?
I wonder how No. 828 would cope if she were allowed to run a mainline tour (assuming that she's fitted with the required electric lamp, AWS, etc. in order to be compliant with mainline standards)? She's a bit small compared to something like a Black 5 or a Britannia, but GWR mogul 7325 did pretty well on railtours several years back (though it was a 4MT and not a 3F like No.828). Just theoretically speaking.
I reckon she would get on rather well. The GNR N2 is going mainline and is only a 3F. She do fine with a rake of 5-6 mk1s although the top speed of the 812 class is 60 mph, going over that is a push.
She'd cope fine if she was allowed to plod along at a nice steady speed with at most 5 or 6 coaches. Water capacity would be a big issue on the big railway though and she doesn't take kindly to being thrashed. The old girl is 118 this month too so I think she's earned the right to plod along a nice scenic heritage railway at her own pace now. =)
Its too bad the Oban line is gone, 828 running between Callander and Oban would be amazing if the line was preserved Alistair. Just would have all 3 CR engines running the line.

True, but that's still only eight amongst hundreds of steam locomotives left in the UK. There are others than the ones you've mentioned, but when the majority of operational locos in 2016 were in BR colours, Blue has been one of those rare exceptions.
