Back when I went into the Navy my old DI told us There's no such thing as a Tough Guy, there's Trained and there's Untrained and that's it, there are some natural advantages that come into the mix (size being chief among them), but in the end it mostly comes down to Training. I've seen quite a few pro wrestlers who couldn't fight their way out of a paper bag in a real fight, and I've seen more than a few legitimate fighting champions who couldn't draw flies in a wrestling ring, despite their obvious athletic abilities they just aren't trained for that world.
I’ve known some guys that could instinctively fight well. Could they go in the ring and be successful with no training? No. Of course not. Could they defend themselves from an assault by other ruffians? All the time.
Never mess with pro wrestlers that have a catch wrestling, amateur wrestling or fighting background. Lesnar, Shamrock, Angle, Barnett, Sakuraba, Bret Hart and Steve Blackman.
