Yes, this should definitely return for sprint stage overhead shots (maybe even for head on?). Different colours or a colour gradient of the numbers from position 1-5/10 might even be more helpful to identify positions
Because of the display of teamsmanship this clip will be watched for years, bring huge exposure to the team, and turned to terrible crash into a heartwarming moment.
This is the kind of analysis that can bring more fans to the sport, you could not know anything or anyone in cycling and still get the immersion that any sports fan looks for. Love your work.
The classic Gaviria leadout from 400 meters. Dude is nothing if not predictable, he literally does it in every sprint and it literally never works. It baffles me every time.
Gaviria not smart at all. First two to start sprinting, Gaviria on the wheel, why the rush to start your own sprint and not benefiting more time of the wheel? Great sprint by Merlier!
I could not see hardly any spectators how long any of the highway? Maybe I just didn't see them? However, I really don't think cycling is very popular in the middle east. Sounds just like the UAE has plenty of money to spend, so they can sponsor a bike race.
He finished at the back of the sprinters group that avoided the crash. 😃😃 That was a good result, as he was a lot further back after one of the roundabouts and I could see that his Astana team mates were looking for him!
The reason the right side was faster is quite logical the second you think about it. They are driving/riding on the correct side of the road. So I assume a lot of GB riders went on the left side, and, well..yeah ;)
did you catch the Decathlon rider with a GoPro on the front of his setup? not even a compact model; he was using a boxy unit capable of 5k recording. that's how i ride track: the video is worth the aero penalty for the wisdom gained.
Bro's balls must be oval shaped this morning eh? The least they could have done was put a baby seat there for him to sit on 😅 I imagine if there was a Tour of Mars it would look something similar to this. Maybe Elon Musk can put that into the works. Thanks Lantern as always an interesting and concise recap! 👏
I really like these highlight clips, but I have a pet hate. At 3:09 he says "Bora move up on the left hand side”, but they are on the right side of the road. It seems to be the standard way of commentating, which is very confusing and really annoying, especially when coverage is interspersed with helicopter views from above.
But they ARE on the left hand side of the road. They're on the right hand side of the screen, but that's not the same thing. Front views aren't super common in cycling anyway - we get more side on and overhead shots - so it just seems less confusing to talk about what side of the road they're on using the riders' perspective, rather than chop and change depending on the camera angle.
@@hannahp1195 I want them to use the riders’ perspective. That would make sense. Here at 3:09 he says "Bora move up on the left hand side”, but they are on the right side of the road from the riders’ perspective. They are on the left of the screen. This form of commentating can become bizarre. Once a commentator on weightlifting said: "He has injured his right elbow, as you look at it.” When the lifter had injured his left elbow.
@@brotherfranciz I know that in this case it was spelt out where they were, but he still should have said they were on the right hand side, in my opinion.
@@hannahp1195But you’re wrong, the riders are on the left hand side of the screen from the moto camera perspective and on the right hand side of the road from the heli camera, which would be the riders perspective.
Love the finishing positions numbers on the riders.

I just love your recaps - informative, great graphics, great pace. Industry standard imho. Hope you get to do a lot of them this season!

🤣🤣
Only one guy pedalling while hurt is like the Smithers & Mr Burns tandem experience.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂😂😂😂 so accurate

First tug buddy moment of 2024
Yes! ❤
Even though it's not the most beautiful scenery yet, really looking forward to the season!
Agree. Looks more like a scene out of some dystopian sci fi film when compared to Euro classics and stage races.
Thanks for the recap. Concise as always! Until tomorrow....
6:00 that guy in black called arvid. Got boxed up and then appears out of nowhere to get 2nd. He would have been the contender for the stage
The classic Gaviria leadout from 400 meters. Dude is nothing if not predictable, he literally does it in every sprint and it literally never works. It baffles me every time.
Merlier looked *STRONG* 💪
Those Van Rysel blue/black bikes look so good, is there a model to buy from a dealer?
Van rysel is decathlons brand, you can get them through there
beautiful countryside and spectacular mountain views ... can't use the usual cliches here
Man, Alpecin and QS are really hard to distinguish in an overhead shot.
Buddy just wanted to share his bike
Crossing the finish line is part of the reward. Absolutely love the comradery of this team 💙
You missed the opportunity of saying they're gay 😂😂😂.
Is there some clipping in the voiceover audio? Just noticing it at 5:55
Gaviria not smart at all. First two to start sprinting, Gaviria on the wheel, why the rush to start your own sprint and not benefiting more time of the wheel? Great sprint by Merlier!
He always does that, he sprints way too early it's kinda hilarous at this point.
Kittel is back? The sprint reminded my of what Marcel would do a few years ago.
Good shout. Pure power sprint... Love it
We live on a crazy planet. Here in Canada and that looks like a different world.😮

Can’t convince my family cycling is cool with that thumbnail. #sportsmanship
What happened to cav?
He finished at the back of the sprinters group that avoided the crash. 😃😃
That was a good result, as he was a lot further back after one of the roundabouts and I could see that his Astana team mates were looking for him!
He's 85 years old 😂
gaviria keep sprinting early for the last race that he did, really don’t understand why he did that
i think the second bike of astana had a turned wheel. like the wheel pointed in a different direction than the cockpit idk

Yeah but if traffic is moving in the same direction, then faster passing traffic should pass on the left.
yeah yeah, was more of a bad joke and a jab at left-side driving folks! :P@@xsexystudmuffinx
My heart skips a beat every time there's a crash with Cav in the pack.
How much power does a sprinter like Merlier produce in a sprint finish?
I'm sure they only did the bike sharing to piss off the UAE organizers.
Brilliant 🤣

w recaps as always
these roads are nuts. unnatural
All roads are unnatural...
Now that's out of the way, it does have a weird vibe seeing those asphalt stripes stretching across the dessert.
Liwa❤❤❤❤
Is that Van Poppel crossing from one side to the other side of the road, for nothing? Due this action, 30 of his colleagues crash...
0:05 and 6:53 UCI trial run for the new Tandem Concept!
He was like, bro, hold my stem

GoPros in the Peloton? That’s something😅
Where’s ineos leadout?
Where do you get you video feed from? Discovery+ is crap compared to the clips you show! :)

7:12 The Savage Desert Dessert: spare ribs!
LR IS SO FUCKING BACK LESGO
That thumbnail....😁
Wait, two on one bike? Seems time to clean up some myths about carbon frames. 😊
6:55 I hope he got immediately disqualified for turned in levers
Weather condition: sunny. Who'd have guessed?
Mechanics wincing at the stress on that top tube.
The inflation kicks in the pro pelotton. Haha.
Nah bro would have had to walk or catch the team car.
0:05 and 6:53 a 'staged' part of Stage 1. I think Wilier just proving how strong their carbon bikes are!
Bikeback mountain
Sorry had to say it
They don't even know how to double properly. Have your friend sit on the bars.
Gaviria always launching too early.
Can I get a backie m8 😅
de kleijn again wtf
BrokeBike Mountain!
loll
That wasn’t gay at all.
Chris Horner did it better
That knucklehead?
