Well this was a joy to watch. No intrusive commentary, a respectful but appreciative audience. And yes, a great break from Neil. I hope he has a good 2025.
Consistently applauding the simplest of shots, they must be the least knowledgeable audience to have ever attended a snooker match. So incredibly annoying.
Great to see Neil back in form. When he is on his cue ball control is precision itself, maybe the best in the game. Ronnie once said something to that effect. He is so clean and simple in his positioning he makes the game look easy as Hendry once remarked in commentary. Beautiful to watch.
@@stevenjohnston2263Agreed, the last red hit the rail some way from the pocket & most times would of stayed out, this table swallowed it. But always good to see a 147, and this one was very well compiled.
Yep. I miss the various camera angles, and the CGI hawk-eye POV representations especially. Chinese paid a lot of money years ago, to ensure these technologies remained China-exclusive. To give their coverage an edge. And it's certainly working, so far.
@@maxington26 You mean like the recent Chinese tournament where the camera was almost level with the table so the advertising in the background could take up a quarter of the screen?!
@@formulaic78 I mean, that's a different thing. But it's linked, yeah. Snooker is so popular in China that advertising is at a premium, and they do tend to tastelessly maximise those charges by increasing the advertising on-screen real-estate as you noted the the detriment to the viewing of the actual game. Leading to the big bucks though, which they can spend on things like hawkeye exclusivity. I wonder what the patents are like on the hawkeye tech? Seems reproducible to me - when it was first around the recognition of the ball positions etc. was cutting edge but the advancements in AI over the last few years make this seem more trivial.
They are applauding every shot because it's NOT the world championship or the Masters it's a more lower tournament exhibition style. Well done for Robertson as every single time he got the white ball in perfect position for the next shot and that in itself is so difficult 😊
To everybody who asks about the applauding after the shots: players had watched the PDC WC the day before and they asked the audience before the event to make the atmosphere a little more like that.
i have a feeling that during these exhibition matches they use wider pockets. I was there in Hungary a few years ago when S. Murphy did two(!) 147s with a few pots like this red.
@@baguette273 The table is actually mine. The table has the default STAR cushions without any modifications. The table was used on previous European Championships.
I think took a slight risk on that red which he would not have done had the result still been in doubt. He needed that red to go in the way it did so that he got the angle on the black to get onto the yellow.
The Star tables, with the cloth that they’re using will accept the balls like this. The cushions slide a little more when the cloth is brand new. A few days into a tournament and the result may have been very different. Neil lost cue ball a couple of times, the second last red was being played to the left side pocket, however he underplayed the shot, got a small rub on the red and gave a wry smile at his own fortune. Absolutely my favourite player, may he have an awesome 2025.
@@ratatat9790 😂😂😂 30 years ago I gave up playing semi-pro pool in Hungary. That time there was at least five pool clubs in Budapest, where you could play snooker as well. Or even you could play pyramid at the biggest pool hall of the city. I think this is not bad from a banana-republic... (As you usually think about Hungary.)🙃
What I learned from watching Neil Robertson pulling this off is that it's just plain easy. Is this the wrong lesson to learn from this performance? lol. Just brilliant! BRILLIANT!

People are saying the last red "shouldn't have gone in". Yes, if he'd hit it hard it wouldn't have, for sure, but at that speed, with new cloths, the Star pockets will take a ball that touches the near jaw on the way down. Just. Apparently the crowd were urged beforehand to get enthusiastic, hence the dumb applause after every pot. I hope that's not going to become a trend -- makes the spectators look like numpties who've never seen a snooker match.
Every pot was a 90% plus chance, sensational positioning, table awareness and control. What an incredible break, sheer perfection by the Thunder from Down Under 👏🏻
So did Neil know on his first shot? Plenty of reds available without going down for the black. And how great is the high fiving with that Hungarian dance music?
What a good lad. Stephen Hendry wouldn't have celebrated like that after a maximum. I'm trying to decide whether i like the commentators waffling on all the time or constant clapping. Both are annoying.
Honestly it's really annoying but probably gave Neil the confidence to pull it off, generally he tends to overthink a lot and get himself into tough situation. All that clapping atleast helped relieve the tension.
The pockets on that table look massive. That last red down the cushion hit the cushion about ten inches before the pocket. On a UK table that would have missed.
All Snooker shown on TV should be minus commentary, they talk far too much, sometimes while a player is down on a shot, these people absolutely ruin the enjoyment, I turn off the sound but then lose the atmosphere.
To everyone who gets angry because of the applause, I hope you never have any more problems. It must be unusual, just like a snooker tournament in Hungary. I think it's still better than the jerky english yellers. 🙂🙂
For ppl asking why clapping after every shot: i am Hungarian and we are an appreciative crowd in sports, especially the ones we barely have any international tourneys and/or professional players
