Luke, you should be using a bow stringer, because you can cause the limbs to twist over time stringing it up by your legs..
On another note, you don't have to look at where the "finger savers" are positioned, all strings are built with a top loop and a bottom loop. The top loop is always the bigger loop, so it can slide down the top limb when unstringing the bow.
I personally would recommend a Flemish twist string for bow fishing, but that is just my personal preference (I run my own company making custom bow strings, both endless loop and flemish twist strings)

Dude with recurves the bottom limb is marked with the poundage. I'd suggest switching yours js. On another note, did you find a suggested brace height for the vibrating s.o.b.?
Have been shooting a pse recurve with an ams retriever for years now. I'm deadly with it! You don't have to hold the trigger unless you are retrieving the string/arrow. There is a really small slit on the inside part of the retriever just above were the string retrieves back into the reel. Your string clips to that and will hold before a shot. Does not effect arrow flight at all when shooting that way and your 25 yards of string won't come falling out of the reel while your holding bow down.

You can shoot this arrow without the string attached, and with the barbs removed into a target. Doing this and using your nock height and rest adjustments, you can tune this bareshaft to fly perfectly off of your bow. You might even need to cut the arrow to make it stiffer. But if that arrow doesn’t come off your bow straight, you’re robbing yourself of performance.
