I would put the cast of Silverado up against this one. Kevin Costner, Scott Glenn, Kevin Kline, Danny Glover, Mark Kasdan, Linda Hunt, Jeff Goldblum, Brian Dennehy, Rosanna Arquette, Jeff Fahey, James Gammon and the great John Cleese. What a set of legends. That's not to take away from the list of legends in El Dorado, but I think Silverado gives it a good run for the money on overall cast quality. If you haven't seen it and love westerns, you gotta give it a watch. Great film.

I'm 66. My parents divorced when I was 7. My father moved away from my sisters, mother and I. My mom use to take me to the drive-in tp see John Wayne movies. God bless her! He was my male influence...we would laugh about how small his horses looked under him. Special memories. My mother was an incredible woman and a blast to be around. So miss her and The Duke!🙏❤🙏

That magnificent horse made me decide on the spot, in the Fox or Fisher theater in Detroit, sitting with my Dad, that I wanted a horse just like that one. I was in Hollywood in the 70's at Gromin's Chines Theater, where there was a boot and hand impression in the concrete of John Wayne. I enjoyed waring"cowboy boots" back then. My hands are feet, in those boots, were the same size as THE DUKE. Fit perfectly 👌 He's my most FAVORITE actor in those years. I regret that I never had the Pleasure to meet John Wayne in person. El Dorado my favorite John Wayne movie although I like everything he did but this is my favorite. John Wayne was the coolest man on the planet. Those actors back then were something special I doubt we'll ever see there like again.
As an actor he had very limited range. Pretty much always played the same character. That's probably why some people have such a hard time distinguishing the real person from the characters he played in movies. In real life he was very much NOT a brave heroic soldier. Kind of the opposite really, especially when compared to other actors of the same era who actively sought out military service, even combat duty, when our country needed them.

When a man tells you something like that, HE AIN'T JOKING OR EXAGGERATING. He said what he meant & meant what he said. The Boss dies first! Then after he's dead, Ya'll don't get paid no more! If ya'll ain't getting paid no more then ya don't have a reason to be here.😊 And I always loved how Clint Eastwood played the "good bad guy." And by doing that he was playing roles that John Wayne wouldn't play, but they were still westerns & he was the star. His character on "Rawhide" was probably the only true "good guy" role he played but I never got to see many of those reruns.

I didn't really care too much about him before, not as a young kid I didn't, I didn't understand westerns all that much back then, but now here in my 30s I do get appreciation out of watching this old-time die-hard patriot, slinging them guns around, riding like a champion horseman, commanding respect everywhere he goes & basically telling it like it is... even if staring down a two-barrel shotgun. The guy was just tough as nails, a man of true grit. Heck, I can only aspire to being anything like that. Thank you God, for blessing all of humanity with his presence, be that the time that past generations before me got to enjoy before you called him home. If many past generation males before me had true grit... why couldn't I be one here in the present?

The Duke will always be the actor who made the westerns popular again in the 60s through out the 80s.
He died in 1979 and the 80's were a down decade for Westerns. They came back in the 90's with Wyatt, Tombstone, and Unforgiven.
