Im an introvert too but I have always felt like coop pve and RP experiences in video games are some of my favorite social interactions, having learned how to type by playing SWG

I still sometimes use slash commands when communicating with no MMOers and have to check myself! Feels like second nature but of course normal people just get confused!

Hi Nap! Fellow introvert and long-time MMORPG player, here! I started with Star Wars Galaxies, back during the CU period, but most of my playing of it was during the NGE phase, right the way through to it being taken offline, coming back via SWGemu and then Legends!
And you know what attracted me to that game more than anything at all? The idea that I could be a stormtrooper. Literally "a stormtrooper" - not some famous, legendary character, not some sort of general or elite supersoldier, just that guy that does his thing. And that the person stood next to me, also in Stormtrooper armour is another player, somewhere maybe a thousand miles away, living their own life as a normal person in a fantastically abnormal world. For the record, that isn't me living some fantasy of being part of a totalitarian, warmongering regime - quite the opposite - I just love the Empire's visual aesthetic more. But yeah, to be just some guy, in a wonderful world. That's exactly what I wanted then, and still want now.

Exactly the same with me. I wanted my bog standard stormtrooper guy (I even wished I could have THX-128 style designation rather than a name - but I could never get the game to let me!) Then I had my regular rebel trooper. And a neutral alien just trying to get by in a worn torn galaxy. Pretty much nobody's - but that's why I loved them! (I of course rolled a Jedi but only because people told me to on this channel! I would've been happy with a moisture farmer instead).

@@napyet I can absolutely relate! I did then (and do now, on Legends) make a point to kit my characters out visually with stuff that makes them look, essentially, like an NPC. Muted matched colours. Something that might look a little worn, a little dusty. My Jedi is literally a "Force Sensitive" who just wants to learn more about the weirdness that is this Force thing that he's hearing about, while wanting to right a few local, relatable wrongs. My Smuggler likes to exchange information, and help get people into and out of dangerous situations - rather than trying to be Dan Solo.

@@Kincoran I like that way of RPing a Jedi in the time period! I think it might've been a typo at the end but it kind of works - Dan Solo - Han Solo's less well known younger brother.

@@napyet Haha, no it was intentional! I didn't want to be the next Han Solo, the next gAlAxY's BeSt SmUgGlEr with the fastest ship ever known. I wanted to be that guy that just about makes his way in the galaxy, living on the edge, but getting to slow down at least as often as that, and drink deep the vistas and atmsopheres of those planets and settlements, as I went.
My all-time favourite thing that I ever did on Galaxies (apart from some starship stuff) was putting together what was basically an in-game email format version of a guided tour of as many weird and wonderful unmarked but interesting locations across the galaxy as I'd been able to find. It got to be too long, in the end, to fit into single emails. So I'd even do some guided tours - particularly of newer Jedi players - showing them a curated collection of sites that it sounded like they'd be interested in. I LOVED that. I guess I wanted to be a tour guide with a Bola Carbine slung over his shoulder!
Thanks for putting the smile on my face, reminiscing about this!

@@Kincoran It's always nice to think back to those highlights. I wish I had the hours in the day, and fewer commitments, so I could still spend my days off just playing like I used to. I remember feeling totally immersed at times - it happens less now but I think in some ways we're all still chasing that dragon.

We are a bit alike. I play but I spend the vast majority of my time exploring, gathering, and crafting with the occasional quest completions as necessary to advance the game. I too fail to see the draw to FFXIV as I tried it four different times and despite the nice graphics I just never could get into the game and the story progressed was much to slow a pace for me. My very first MMO was Galaxies the week of the NGE release so I cannot speak to its original concept. I spent countless hours riding around on a speeder searching for those HQ resources to lay a mine down. I would occasional join a group running an exploit quest in which we do repeatedly to level up before SOE would nerf it. There was one on Kashyyk and Mustafaar as I recall that gave over a 100,000 xp and was immediately repeatable. Those were fun times. To this day Galaxies had the most interesting crafting system I have ever played. And the housing system was also the best of any game I have played because items could be placed anywhere in the home and any orientation and if you sold items on the market people would have to come to your vendors in your home to get the items so people would see all your hard work. It was actually interesting to go in a see what people had done with their designs and I would see items in their homes and google just to see how they obtained them and discovered quests I would have never known about otherwise.

Hey Nap! Great vid mate, I did a similar one on Star Citizen, do have a watch! But I think you'd really like it, it doesnt have a clear direction, more of a sandbox.. but you can also play with others too.. great community, for the most part! haha! There's a freefly on the 22nd november so you can try the game for free.. if you use my code to sign up, you can get an extra ship if you buy the game later.. also some starting cash. Hope to see you in the verse mate! Would love to hear your views on the game :)

I've thought about it many times and have watched some really fun livestreams where people fight to get stuff done - it's definitely on my list of games to try (and of course looking forward to Squadron 42 once that's ready). Used to love the wing commander games back in the day

I used to be more of an extro than an intro until I got older. The days of me running around Norrath, or Rubika with friends doesn't seem as appealing as it once was. In the later portion of those years, I did solo missions. I still think AO has the best overall mission generator I've ever seen in my life. The only thing that comes close to that level of dynamic-ness is City of Heroes. So many sliders to adjust how you want the mission to be once you get inside. These days I'm more of an elder scrolls / fallout person.

I would say Bethesda games are probably my favourite single player games also. And once I got into modding my interest just exploded! I loved the atmosphere of AO most of all - the music is still some of my favourite in any game

@@napyet Same here with AO. I have the soundtrack CDs. I always liked the techno battle music of shadowlands. As well as how the OG battle music would change based on how well you're doing. The people I played it with back in the day always had their music turned off, and I saw that as blasphemy, lol.
