- I love a pop song with a good baseline and if I had to choose, I'd say that this is my favorite Genesis song.

Great cover👍💯💥
Thanks Eugene!
Great stuff...well played. Rutherford is an underrated player with an original feel and style👏
Thank you kindly! I agree with you 100% on his talent and ability
As an old ex-bass player, I love watching someone nail a cool bass line. You rock D!
Aww, thanks Bob! It's always good to hear from you. Thanks for checking in!
Never realized how important this bass is in this song. Wouldn't be the same if it were a simple bass part. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the comment! Mike Rutherford admits that being a guitar player sometimes influenced the adventurousness of his bass playing. He knew when to keep it simple but definitely enjoyed the “lead bass” opportunities when the song would allow. He does more of the same on “Just a Job to Do" from the Genesis album that follows this one. Be sure to check it out as it’s another great bassline.
@DomingoVoiceOver Yes...I've got a name and I've got a number...lol...song is going through my head just reading the line. Absolutely love that album. Always in my top 5 albums of all time. I listen to it often. That's all...Silver Rainbow....and Illegal alien....I've listened to that album so many times I can pretty much replay it in my head. But between those three guys and specifically Abacab, Genisis, and Invisible touch they just put out an amazing amount of great material. Not to mention Phils solo work. Just great artists all around. I could ramble on and on....
@@DomingoVoiceOver Also as huge Zeppelin Beatles Genesis fan and also a guitar drum piano player, it's quite easy to kinda miss the bass on alot of music...that is until you don't hear it there ! It is such an integral part of music that just seems to almost be innate. And I was even more impressed by how hard it is when I tried to play bass for a few songs in my old band just for fun. I never knew how difficult it could be to just be solid and always keep in the groove because it's so important.
@@jayrussell3796 I'm right there with you!
Excellent! Nice finesse and dynamics. And sweet camera work.
Thanks Larry! I put a considerable amount of time into the video production but I enjoyed the process and learned even more along the way.
Absolutely KILLER performance, man! As soon as I saw the post, I was so eager to hear it with the baseline highlighted. Immediately recalled what an intricate baseline this is, and how it paired with the horns on this track.
Killer job, Domingo!
Tony, thanks for the kind words! Yes, the interplay among instruments is so well done here. I don't play very many gigs these days so these solo video performances are my outlet. Interestingly, my music performance videos get considerably more views than my VO videos. Maybe I need to start a new YT channel 😎
I have maintained for some time that for a track to be really great it should be possible to solo any of the individual parts and still appreciate that greatness. This is one such track. Genesis have many of them!
You play this very well, I wish you were in my band!
Agreed and thanks for the compliment! I appreciate your time.
Just amazing,
@@bearbear6771 I appreciate it 🙏
Mike isn’t the easiest player to replicate and you do it very well, bravo 👏
Thanks Boz! This bass part wasn't easy but I had great fun learning it.
I really enjoyed watching you play the baseline. For whatever reason, I tend to hum the baseline of songs to myself (quietly) since I assume people would expect me to hum the melody instead. Nicely done, Domingo!
I appreciate it Michele and yes, when I listen to music sometimes it's fun to tune into the supporting instruments and melodies. I hope all is well!
great cover of a great bass line by Mike Rutherford
I appreciate your comment. Thanks for your time!
Bravo!
Cheers!
Awesomeness. Love it!
Thank you my friend! I appreciate your time 🙂
Just love this cover
@@ralffig3297 I appreciate it Raul!
So good! Thanks
Cheers!
Nice, Domingo! Such a colorful and playful bass line. So melodic. The silences in between the notes are just as important as the notes. You captured all the nuances... even switched to the pick towards the end! 👍
I appreciate it Frank and yes, you are so right! I could only find one real video of Genesis performing this live and I discovered that Mike Rutherford switches to the pick for the outro, which makes sense since I wasn't getting the correct tone playing fingerstyle. How observant of you 😎
So faithful to the original. Great work, sir!
I did my best to learn it note for note...and loved every minute of it. Thanks for the compliment!
Love this song! Sounds awesome!
Thanks Brad! Nice work today. See you Friday!
Go Domingo!
Thanks so much Bill!
Awesome buddy! What a fantastic way to highlight one of the most underappreciated instruments in modern music! :)
Thanks Bill. I've loved this song (and this bassline) since I was a kid. It's interesting to note that it's primarily (bass-ically 🙂) the guitar player performing this bassline.
Enjoyed your video, thanks
Thanks for taking the time to say so!
Awesome! Beautiful take on it.
Thanks! I've loved this song since I was a kid in the 80s.
Bom demais ❤ 🇧🇷
@@beijafloreando Muito obrigado
Brilliant
Cheers
Very nice! 👏🎸
Thank you kindly! 🙏
Excellent man. I've played guitar and just bought a bass for myself. I have a tough first song ahead!
Thanks Logan! The challenge is part of the fun so be patient and keep working at whatever song you happen to be learning 🙂
Of all videos I saw, your rendition is closest to the original, I think. Really cool!
How do you play this short instrumental break at 1:34 and further on, when Mike goes into 16th notes? I just couldn't figure out. 😢 Your help will be appreciated.
Wow, thanks for the kind comment! Check out this other bass cover video that might be helpful. He's posted TAB of what he's playing, which is also close to the original th-cam.com/video/v11mmHjxPww/w-d-xo.htmlsi=nMC0G0G-lcS8JspG&t=86 The best advice I can give is to take it slow and learn small sections by ear. This way you're improving your own abilities. It's often frustrating but equally rewarding 🙂
@@DomingoVoiceOverhe plays it wrong))). Anyway, I managed to run through it. )) Thanks for reply.
@@TheDodos85 ...it isn't exact but at least he provides TAB that will get you most of the way there. Congrats on figuring out the rest of it! 🙂
A funk brother!
Thanks, I'll take it!
I don't like it a little, I like it too much!!!
Oh, you really had me going for a minute, there! Thanks for the kind comment😅 I'll try to post more guitar / bass performance videos in the days to come. Any requests?
@@DomingoVoiceOver may I? I love many songs, what about Kate Bush 'James and the Cold Gun'?
@@Sylviom100 Ooh, I love Kate Bush. The Dreaming and Hounds of Love are my favorite albums but please let me look into what you're suggesting
@@DomingoVoiceOver 'The Kick Inside' is what I like the most. Is the only record I hear all the tracks. There's only one brazilian group I also hear a whole album.. A big hug from Rio de Janeiro.
@@Sylviom100 Thank you my friend! Warm regards from Chicago / USA
Nice playing. loved it. Can you please tell me the name and model of this bass?
Thanks for the compliment! I'm playing a 2019 Fender American Elite Precision Bass and for the bridge I switched to a 2012 Fender American Standard Fretless Jazz Bass
