This "Hey Joe" lesson is so miles ahead of the other lessons for this song on TH-cam. The break downs of some of the fills are truly a glimpse into JImi's genius. Thanks Alex, great great lesson.
Congrats! This guitar lesson has been selected by our curators and featured on our website as the Best Guitar Tutorial for this song/level. Thank you for your hard work and expertise!
I really enjoy watching all the guitar lesson's, especially this one. Hey Joe has always been a favorite 9f mine. I'm 60 yrs old and I played guitar yes ago, but my partying always was more important to me, than practicing. I've settled way down over the last 20 yrs. So it may sound foolish to start back playing at my age, but I've decided to get a good little tube amp and either building myself a guitar or maybe getting one of Fender's new Duo Sonic with a humbucker in the bridge or a Epiphone G-400 Pro's or LP Standard. Being from NE Mississippi I've always loved Delta Blues and classic rock, all the great guitar rock from the 70s and 80s. When my son was 15 I got him a John 5 Tele. Taught him the major cords, bar cords and power cords. He did well for a few yes and just sorta played it down. I'm hoping if I start back he will also. I'm sure this is a crazy dream I've come up with , but fuck it. I gonna go for it. Wish me luck.
Thank you very much for your great work. I m 72 years young and seem to learn very well with your lessions. Hope, you can do this for many years in the future. Good luck to you and best wishes !!!
I’ve paid for online lessons that only show glimpses & poorly explained theory behind Hendrix playing. In this lesson you have explained so much in 30 mins in a clear, patient & thoughtful way. Awesome stuff & thank you so much. This will progress me to Hendrix style in lot less time now!
You are awesome! The best Hendrix stuff on the internet! I am totally blown away by your attention to detail & your accuracy of the original notes/chords/songs! Wow! I have to go and put my brains back because u blew them out of my head!!!🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸 You help the rest of us to understand what a genius Jimi really was! From the bottom of my heart; " Thank You!"🌟
Ohhh yeah !!! This is the best instructional video for Hey Joe and Jimi's guitar style in general that I have seen on youtube. And I have been looking for something like this for a long time. Also the tab is very important in order to learn. Thank you so much for this video :-) It is absolutely perfect :-) You are the best !!!
I see all the comments about how good this lesson is. And it is. But I would like to mention how awesome the tone is. Sounds fantastic in a nice pair of phones. Rock on
Hell yeah. I love lessons like these. No note for note BS but an explanation on the theory behind the song. I got this song in about 30 minutes and I can improvise on top of it with my own licks. I love it man you rock.
That´s cool man. I'm trying to get to that level. I try to practice at least 1 hour after work everyday. I was wondering which tutorial should I take and I think guitarforce is one of the best .
I'll share a tip break that hr up & play 15 - 20 min's in the morning when you get home 20 min's + then the time you been practicing do that for 20 -30 min's of focused practice of the stuff that's boring….then before bed play again going over motifs scales runs you have been working on then just put on a backing track & jam just improv , you will see a huge improvement in days.
This is the best comment you can make. And it´s the right one. You have to get the entire song. So The chords, notes, mode, but also the real meaning behind it in a musical term. Then you can start playing around totally and feel the soul.
I love these videos. I been learning for about two years and just in the last month my playing is really kicking in. Thanks to your videos. I am 51 years old.
Very impressive lesson Alex - you do a great job explaining in detail the magic and mystery behind Jimi's style and show how any guitarist can learn it!
I felt like I had plateaued on this song and quit playing it for a while, but this has inspired to work on it again. Lots of great advice here. Thanks Alex.
I have enjoyed this lesson and the things you point out are very unusually enjoyable for a lesson. You seem to know everything I'm really looking for in a lesson video. Considering buying more on your site if relevant to where I'm at. Thanks so much for this free one!
Great !!! Thanks for actually ‘teaching’ and explaining so clearly so that now I can generalise to all of my playing. Others have attempted this but this is the best I have seen so far. Well done.
Thank you this is great. Just came here expecting to find a lesson on hey joe, but with this one you opened to me a lot of new things and concepts! Really enjoyed that.
Hey Alex.. great job man! Of all the guys giving guitar lessons on the web, you're one of the very best. You actually take the time to 'get things right' before showing others how to do it. There's too many guys out there passing themselves off as instructors... and thus teaching not only 'wrong chords' and 'notation'... but passing on bad information as well.
without doubt the best guitar tutorial channel on youtube. I especially appreciate the clarity and the links to the backing tracks. very useful. thanks
Hi Alex, I had to add a comment to say you are a great teacher with a great method of teaching, I'm only a couch guitar player, but following your instruction even I can sound good, please keep it up, the world will be full of great players if they watch your vids, good luck and merry Christmas
This is amazing Alex thanks! Great lesson as always. This song is so soulful. What an extraordinary song to master. It's just so inspiring. To be able to play the music that Jimi once played is incredible. What a journey!
Vic Potter Yes, I have to agree with you on that. For me, trying to learn how Jimi played the rhythm chords was always a big mystery to me. This video is the best that I've seen on that aspect of the song.
If you watch his (JH’s) performance of Hey Joe at Monterey Pop Festival, that set and perhaps the performance of that song in particular was what blew him up. I’m pretty sure Prince modeled a large part of his entire guitar and stage persona on that that 4 min. Consider that a large percentage of the audience and Jimi as well was trippin on the “Monterrey Purple” LSD. I think he literally became one w the guitar and the song and his confidence a (remember his suggestive tongue flash lol) was otherworldly. Great song and makes me realize that I can improvise my playing in general on any number of songs. I think thats where the fun comes in. Also thanks for displaying the tab at top of page where I can see it when I pause on you tube.
this is the most comprehensive tutorial I've found for this song even if it isn't "note for note'" For the most part, Hendrix probably never played it the same way twice.
excellent guitar lesson with an excellent teacher thank you very much joel merci Alex vous êtes formidable dans ce cours superbe jeu de guitare merci encore
Hi Alex i love your player. Briliant the way you explain not only what is being played note for note but also the theory behind it. It is actually beyond my reach but I will give it a go anyhow. I. Will learn from it for sure. Thanks a lot and you have got my thumbs up and subscription.
hey Alex, great lesson as you not only covers the song itself but also, you use it to explain chords variations. Great work and thanks for sharing your knowledge
Alex this is the BEST lesson on this. You give a variety of different licks to choose from. I watched Carl Golden's cover on You tube and he does some amazing stuff and you've covered it for me. You give us a choice depending on our abilities and I really and truly appreciate this lesson. You will make me sound like a person who really knows their stuff ! I need to support you some more. The last time I could only afford $20. I need to support you more. Your lessons are becoming some of the best on You tube. CANADA
I love your lesson on Can't get enough of your Love/Bad Company! This lesson is amazing Alex! I close my eyes and it's almost identical to Jimi's version! You are an amazing guitar player! Thanks so much for this lesson!
Alex you are an amazing teacher !! Showing us the mechanics of the guitar as well as the song. Thank you so much or as we say in Hawaii Mahalo & Aloha braddah ps You are a very humble person it seems that's a part of what makes your teachings even better as you care !!
First of all, thank you for your really good and informative videos. You convey playing techniques, theory and practice very well, even for a beginner like me. I'm sitting here in Germany and practicing playing Hey Joe step by step. My equipment currently consists of a Fender AM Strat Pro II, but as I've only played a bit of blues and rock on an acoustic (western) guitar most of the time, I wanted to get a modeling amp to start with so that I could get a sound similar to Jimi Hendrix and also rock out a bit. I was thinking of the Yamaha THR10II. Or could you recommend something else, something better? Many thanks Alex and stay healthy!
12:43 - First Chords progression example
12:56 - Second variation
16:06 - Variation with double stop.

Is there a link for the whole song?
Amazing! For some reason, I can't leave a comment
This "Hey Joe" lesson is so miles ahead of the other lessons for this song on TH-cam. The break downs of some of the fills are truly a glimpse into JImi's genius. Thanks Alex, great great lesson.
Well said
And it's stay as one of the best, there are a lot o good ones but not as this one.

your lessons are nothing short of INCREDIBLE. The absolute best. And I am old enough that I saw Hendrix live.
Congrats! This guitar lesson has been selected by our curators and featured on our website as the Best Guitar Tutorial for this song/level. Thank you for your hard work and expertise!
You have the best pace and explanation of any TH-cam instructor. Not too fast. Not to slow.
I really enjoy watching all the guitar lesson's, especially this one. Hey Joe has always been a favorite 9f mine. Good luck, it’s never too late to start playing again
Did you end up building on or buying tho?
Thank you very much for your great work.
I m 72 years young and seem to learn very well with your lessions.
Hope, you can do this for many years in the future. Good luck to you and best wishes !!!
you are actually the best guitarist on youtube.. you can cover the small nuances that other guitarists miss out.
This is the best "Hey Joe" guitar lesson on youtube!

Custom made for guitarist.

Hello Alex I'm a new player, and I want to say thank you for everything. Watch your tutorials really helps me on my musical journey.

Watchman4u would u recommend sticking to one scale at a time like the minor pentatonic
I agree with you. Although I will say there is some songs where note for note is better.
This is the best comment you can make. And it´s the right one. You have to get the entire song. So The chords, notes, mode, but also the real meaning behind it in a musical term. Then you can start playing around totally and feel the soul.
Another great lesson, covering so many ideas that Jimi used to embellish straight forward chords. Perfect.
I love these videos. I been learning for about two years and just in the last month my playing is really kicking in. Thanks to your videos. I am 51 years old.

Great lesson and youre 100% right about having to get the rhythm down for it to sound right. Thanks for this.

Vic Potter Yes, I have to agree with you on that. For me, trying to learn how Jimi played the rhythm chords was always a big mystery to me. This video is the best that I've seen on that aspect of the song.
