    So luo and suba people have been moving and staying together for centuries! From Egypt, through Bahr el Ghazal, through mingling with Buganda and Busoga kingdoms in Uganda before settling together in western Kenya and northern Tanzania. They must have been good neighbors all along. Part of this good neighborliness could be attributed to luos as the dominant partner in terms of numbers. When a lady is married into a luo homestead they call her with the name of where she came from eg Nya-suba, Nya-kuria, Nya-kisii etc. This will go along way in letting the children of the lady know the other uncles or where their mother came from. For the language dominance I think it is because luos are poor in learning other languages or it is easy to learn dholuo. A luo lady would teach her children her language wherever she is married, and a lady married in luoland would find her children speaking dholuo.

There are many small clans assimilated from Kuria, Luhya and Gusii as well as the Olusuba speakers from Uganda. There being so many non-luo clans does not mean that most luo are Bantu in origin. Those clans are minorities and they are not Luo but non-Luos that live among Luo/have assimilated into Luo culture. The ethnic luos who are mostly of Nilotic stock form the majority of the four counties of Luo-Nyanza. Most inhabitants of so called suba-land appear sudanese. it is more correct to say that most Olusuba people are mostly of Luo stock. Ochola for example and many people in the video appea sudanese. Luo-Nyanza is mostly inhabited by the Nilotes and small pockets of Kuria and Suba. The Bantu were the last people in Nyanza and entire eastern Africa region. There is no way inhabitants of Luo-nyanza were originally Bantu. That is incorrect archeologically. The first inhabitants were Khoisan-like people, Ogiek and other hunters, the second group were the nyanza/rift cushitic branch of southern cushites, the third group were the southern nilotes, plain nilotes and riverlake nilotes (Luo) and fourth and last group were the Bantu speakers. • @milkakay9139
      @milkakay9139 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You are partially right. The banchari clan has partial originality from the luo and from the Gusii. Their paternal side is Luo and their maternal side is Gusii. They descend from a Gusii woman and Luo man. The Suba are not the same people and that is why the Olosuba language is endangered and most speak Luo. The Egesuba speaking suba from Migori county and Northern Tanzania are unconnected to the suba of Homabay/rusinga/mfangano in language and culture. The Olosuba speaking suba are from Buganda and Busoga hence the olosuba language is very similar to Luganda and some Luhya languages such as samia, khayo and nyala etc. The Egesuba speaking suba from migori and northern tanzania are closely related to the Kuria and Gusii and are believed to have been originally splinter groups from Gusii and Kuria thus the very close linguistic similarities. There is no such a thing as Suba people. The term suba was given to this group by the luo. The term suba was originally used by the luo to refer to splinter tribes from Gusii and Kuria that settled among the luo. The term was later used to refer to the people escaping from buganda and busoga that became the ancestors of the Olosuba speaking suba of Homabay/rusinga/mfangano. The suba of migori and northern tanzania are erroneously grouped together with the suba of Homabay/rusinga/mfangano, but they are far distinct in terms of languages and culture and the two suba groups were originally unconnected.

    • @ericktsumba7770
      @ericktsumba7770 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Milka Kay you are wrong in some sections of your comment.
      Only 1/3 of Subas can be considered as those who escaped the Buganda revolt.
      They include Majorly Rusinga,Mfangano and only one clan in Gwassi called Wagassi.
      Another correction is that Homabay alone hosts over 3 Suba dialects as opposed to your claim that Olusuba is the only language in Homabay.
      Olusuba is the dialect of Mfangano and Rusinga Islands.
      Though Olusuba is bit famous as opposed to the others because it has been documented in Bible and radio stations broadcast in Olusuba.
      In mainland we have Ekisuva(Ekikuune) Ekisuba(Wiga) and Kimuhulu.
      But it's also common to find olusuba being popular amongst Ekisuba speakers coz of intermarriage with the islands.
      In Migori these mainland dialects mixed and we another categories such as Kisambethe, Kisweta while most of Homabay Subas also moved to Migori side like Waware Sublocation in migori.
      Another distortion that u have which is not true is that Subas did not find Luos in the interior subas if so why do the names have Bantu meanings.
      There were no borders most people would sail across the lake.
      Luos came from the North Bantus who later formed an ally to be Suba either trekked or sailed across the lake.
      First subas to settle in the two islands of Mfangano and Rusinga were Wasaki from Masaka.
      Kisiis were present too in Gwassi and Mfangano visit Kuitutu shrine in Mfangano. Tutu was Kisii.
      Area of Mbita or Gembe was occupied by Maasais. Read History.
      Decline of Suba language was the mandatory introduction of Dholuo language amongst Subas n it was a measure of literacy.
      Exams called Competitive Entry Exams (CEE) were examined in Dholuo and Kisuba was not allowed in Suba schools.
      Blame goes to administrative laws and usurping of powers by the colonial chiefs like the then South Nyanza chief Paul Mbuya.

      @@ericktsumba7770 Your comments imply that you don't real know history other than the fake history taught to you by Bantu-centric scholars like Ogot, Ochieng etc. The fact is that the Bantu speakers were the last people to settle in the entire Kenya and Eastern Africa, Southern Africa, and central Africa(south , north and eastern parts). There is a lot of archeological and anthropological evidence to show that. As far as nyanza, and the rest of kenya is concerned, the first inhabitants were hunters/gatherers similar to khoisan, ogiek, hadza, dorobo, sandawe and several other now extinct indigenous people of Eastern Africa. The next group of settlers were the Nyanza cushites a branch of southern/rift cushites, the next group were the southern nilotes and plain nilotes. The river lake nilotes which are the luo came later than the southern and plain nilote, but presided the bantu speakers. The Bantu speakers were the last people to settle in nyanza and kenya. The Olusuba speaking suba migrated from Uganda in 1800s and found the luo in Kenya which is a fact. There are not so many suba dialects as you claim. there are two distinct suba languages namely Olusuba/Kisuba and egesuba/ekisuba. The Ekisuba language which is basically egikuria language/Bunchari dialect of ekegusii is what is referred by several different names including ekisuba/ekisuuva/wiga/kimuhulu/kisembete etc. It is basically one language referred by many different names. All suba migrated to luo nyanza counties of siaya, migori, kisumu and siaya from Buganda, Busoga, Luhyaland, Gusiiland and Kurialand section of migori(which is was part of transmara) and found the Luo in those counties. They basically migrated to Luo-land. The fact is that the Olusuba speaking people migrated from Buganda, Busoga and Bunyala of Luhyaland in 1800s (Those from Bunyala preceded those from Buganda and Busoga). The Olusuba language is very similar to Luganda and Olunyala of Luhya. The Nyala luhya claim to understand olusuba by 100% and Luganda by 70-80% hence olusuba is the lunyala dialect of Luhya and those from uganda adopted the language. The suba groups of migori county and sections of homabay that speak ekisuba/egesuba language similar to ekegusii/Egekuria normally correctively called Suba-girango and suba-simbete are splinter groups from Gusii and Kuria that settled among Luo and some of them assimilated into the luo cultures. All suba groups including those akin to the Gusii and Kuria migrated to Luoland (kisumu, siaya, migori and homabay) and found them there. The luo were there before them. Please stop lying to us here that the Gusii were found in Gwassi and mfangano. Those are not gusii lands and have never been Gusii lands. They were all originally Luo lands. The ancestral Gusii lands are Nyamira county and Kisii county and parts of Kericho and Bomet counties and the Kuria lands are former Kuria district which was annexed from transmara. The rest of the Migori, Homabay including the islands, siaya and Kisumu were originally luo lands before the suba migrated from Gusiiland, Kurialand, Luhyaland and Uganda to Luoland. Some of the Gusii have recently settled in Homabay county and other luo-nyanza counties in the post-colonial age that is after 1963. The Luhya were resettled by the British in 1900s in various luo-nyanza counties like Homabay, siaya, Kisumu and migori to chase tsetse flies and other reasons. The Kikuyu were also resettled in parts of Luo-nyanza. The Gusii were never removed from their ancestral lands of Nyamira, and Kisii Counties and sections of Kericho and Bomet due to be warlike. As such the Gusii settlement in Luo-nyanza date to after 1963. The only Bantu that are legitimately from the four luo-nyanza counties are the Kuria and Suba. The others were either resettled there by the British in the case of Luhya and Kikuyu. The Gusii have recently settled in major towns of Luo-nyanza like Kisumu, Siaya, Homabay, and some suba towns. Some sections of the Gusii clans like Kione, girango have settled among the Olusuba speaking Suba of the islands and homabay recently. Some of the Gusii have also bought land among the Olusuba people and even assimilated into the Olusuba and speak Olusuba language. That does not mean they are from there. The Olusuba people have also assimilated some of the suba-girango/simbete. These does not mean they are from there. The Suba-girango/simbete including Kuria are basically Abagusii as they were breakaway groups from Abagusii. The egikuria/ekisuba/Ekisuuva/Bunchari dialect are basically a variation of Ekegusii. A Gusii does not need a translator for ekisuba/egesuba/Egikuria as that language is a variation of Ekegusii. It is only the Olusuba people who came from Uganda and they did not migrate together with the Gusii/Kuria which were much earlier and did not come from Uganda. The Suba-girango have also assimilated Olusuba people and it does not mean that the Olusuba people are from Migori. Some of the Bobasi clans of Gusii around Sameta town have assimilated the Olusuba people settled in the town by the British. Also some of the South Mugirango clans of Gusii have also assimilated some of the olusuba people. This does not mean that the Olusuba people are from Gusiiland. The Only Suba that are from Gusiiland are the Suba-girango/simbete. The Kuria too are from Gusiiland as almost all Kuria clans are of Gusii origins except the few they assimilated from Olusuba people, Luhya and Luo. The concept of shrines is found among luhya and not Gusii. Please stop making up history. Have many names in Nyanza including Nyanza being Bantu in origin does not mean that the Bantu speakers were first. It also does not mean that those are Bantu lands. The province of Nyanza and other provinces of Kenya were created by the British and naming was done by the British. In the case of Nyanza they see to have preferred Bantu names over Nilotic names. Also many towns of Kenya emerged as former colonial settlements. These towns include, migori, Kisumu, Siaya, Mbita, mfangano, rusinga etc. Most of the names of towns in Luo-nyanza have been bantunized. To add onto that many of the so called Bantu names have been borrowed or assimilated from those already living there which include nyanza/rift cushites, Ogiek, southern nilotes (Kalenjin), plain nilotes (maa), River-lake nilotes (Luo). So most likely many of the names you claim have Bantu meanings were not originally Bantu names but assimilated names. Circumcision is dominant among Bantu. does that mean it is Bantu in origin? The answer is no. It is southern Cushitic in origin. That applies to the words you claim are Bantu in origin. The decline of Olusuba has nothing to do with the Luos and please stop the blame game. The decline has something to do with preference of olusuba people to speak ekisuba language. Many of the Olusuba people in Homabay and migori speak ekisuba. The decline also has something to do with the Olusuba people being in denial of their Ugandan heritage and being too attached to the Kuria/Gusii. The Olusuba people tend to always want an associated with Kuria/Gusii rather than Baganda hence end up promoting Ekisuba instead of Olusuba. The other reason for the decline is that speaking luo has a political advantage as the Luo tend to be prominent politically. If people like mabona didn't associate themselves with dholuo and Luo people they will not be visible politically. same applies to mbadi. The point is that the Olusuba people are weaker and live at the expense of the Luo and Kuria and other tribes that have assimilated them. Why aren't they promoting olusuba since they know it is endangared? Because they know that if they switch to that language they will be completely invisible. The suba-girango/simbete have pride in their origins hence the ekisuba language is not endangered and is the most spoken of the two distinct suba languages. The Olusuba people should first embrace their Ugandan heritage then they will be proud to speak and promote Olusuba. Ogot, Ochieng are basically thieves. They have distorted history and lied a lot in their books. Their works indicate that they didn't know the History of Kenya, and east Africa.
